Humid, and hot. Still and again. Yesterday did get into the 100s, at least in the sun. And we had sun here, all day, in between some threatening clouds, but we never did get rain.

Didn’t win the solar panels. There will be others at some point, and these went for about double what I wanted to pay without seeing them in person. There weren’t a lot of bidders, but it only takes two who want the lot to run up the price.
I spent some time on the phone and emailing to see if there was a way to move my septic install along, and I got lucky. I might have found a company to do the foundation and retaining walls, and their technology doesn’t require a bunch of heavy machinery or digging. That helps me sequence the work and maybe get the septic in first. I’ll also probably be responsible for more of the site prep and demo but that is the breaks. I wasn’t finding anyone else to do it anyway.
Speaking of infrastructure. I do need to get at least a UPS up there for the freezers, and it would be nice to move a battery and the charge controller for the portable solar panels too. I’ve got to get some networking and a cam or two running too, even without an internet connection. I’ll only work on that if I hit roadblocks with the more important work though.
For today though, I’ve got kid duties, some auction pickups, and more work to do on my site plan and model of the house and lot. I might have cleaned all of my office that will be cleaned this time… there just isn’t enough time.
So stack up some labor saving devices, and some skillz to use them. And make the most of your time.

We have a deer problem around our development because hunting is banned in the nature preserve areas, and all of their habitat on the old ranch to the west was turned into dense H1B tract houses.

The critter my kids really have a hard time understanding being nasty to live around are peacocks. The area where I grew up in Florida has a bad problem with those birds due to a hurricane smashing a breeding farm in the 50s — of course the birds survived.
Until one is vocalizing during mating season in the neighborhood, most people don’t realize that they have a call like a woman screaming.

0730 and it’s 79F with 87% humidity. Feels like 85F. I’ve been taking the puppy for walks in the morning since it’s so bleeping hot in the evening. She is doing better. She now will walk out the front door and to the neighbor’s yard. She is scared of something around there, as I really have to coax her to keep going. I have to drop the leash, walk down the sidewalk a ways, sit down, and then she will make her way to me (treats don’t work). I have to do that about three times, then she will walk the short loop without issue (.78 miles). She isn’t enjoying it though, as her ears are pinned back. She is getting more comfortable with it though, so we’ll keep doing it.
There may be a bad smell, or a sound only she can hear. Fan bearing failing?

I was running my home server on Fedora with 4 GB, but that got too painful when using Java and GUI occasionally. I upgraded to 8 GB which was cheap and simple.
The hardware is an AMD APU with a B350 chipset so the board can go to 64 GB, but I will pay a penalty with memory clock if I max out the RAM so I keep the server resources as low as possible until I can’t stand it anymore.
One of the points of the server build five years ago (!) was to see how cheap I could go. Under $200 for motherboard, CPU, and RAM, and the processor core is the same one AMD supplies for the PS4.
You could probably do something similar with a low end Intel CPU right now.

It turns out if you don’t acclimate them, they like to roam, and often never return. Sightings happened all over the place, and since this was before Facebook, they even ended up in the local newspaper. We figured out to keep a low profile and not claim ownership.
I had a neighbor call once that there was a peacock in his garden. By this point, I was well aware of their drawbacks, and I made 2 comments. 1) You have a shotgun, feel free to use it and 2) I’ve done some research and apparently they taste like pheasant.

Peacocks? A neighbor here in far west San Antonio has peacocks. To me, their cries sound like cats in distress, and since we like cats, I kept trying to figure out where. BTW, you will be fascinated to find out how much water that you put into your septic system, along with other stuff. My first septic tank at the house, the trash tank, is 500 gallons. My second septic tank, the separation tank, is 500 gallons. My third septic tank, the finishing tank, is 750 gallons. I think that the water sprinklers are activated when the third tank has 400 to 500 gallons of water in it.
Note, this is NOT potable (drinking) water. It is gray water with chlorine in it that may be suitable for watering your yard. The emphasis is on may because when that system has an uh-oh, the sprinkler water coming out is not clean.

Are outages there longer than that? If so, perhaps a whole house generator (or even a smaller one for just vital devices like a freezer) that automatically switches on/off during power outage events is a choice. With a bypass panel properly installed to prevent feedback into the grid.

So my problem is… when they came and installed their radio, that’s all they did. They dropped the 40 foot telescoping mast, removed Rise’s radio and attached the new radio. No new wiring, no new surge suppressor, no new power supply. And guess who spent the rest of the day adjusting the guy wires? And paid $250 for installation?
Well, I’ve had a lot of “something is wrong with your network and it’s not our problem” noise. I understand their view. I could have a funky switch or cable somewhere. @lynn, a 7 cuft chest freezer draws 120w when it is running. The sheet says it uses 250 KWh/year so less than one a day. A 1500 UPS should give it enough to do a whole cooling cycle if the timing was exactly wrong and the compressor started when the outage did. I haven’t put my wattmeter on it but the UPS is just backup. If you don’t open it, it should ride thru a 6-8hr outage no problem.
@rick, a whole house gennie is on the list. It could be small and only for a few dedicated circuits up there.
Eventually, I want the freezers on solar, with battery and inverter, switching back to shore power if needed. For better survivability, each should be on its own system, whatever that is. Losing one small freezer still leaves one running, so under most ‘freezer failed’ situations I only lose half, not a whole big freezer’s worth. And the small freezers were available and cheap, which trumped all the other considerations. 🙂

re: sharing lottery ticket purchase and winnings…..I can see all sorts of potential problems if a shared ticket wins.
So, creating rules and contract for participants in your ‘lottery pool’ is important. Note that IANAL, but there’s some practical advice here and other places.
Some would think that buying lots of tickets via your lottery pool will increase your odds of winning. Not true. Or at best, a very insignificant increase in your odds of winning.
If I was asked to participate in (or run) a lottery pool, even if it was a friend or co-worker saying “can you buy me a lottery ticket since you are going to the store – here’s the cash”, I’d refuse. Too much potential hassle if one of those tickets win. Or if you buy extra tickets for yourself and one of your non-pool tickets wins…there’s a potential for lawsuits from the members of your lottery pool.
Don’t need that hassle. Not for a million (or billion) dollars.

Biden is still shilling the concept that the vaccines work as … well … vaccines. Trump didn’t have a jab and got much sicker as a result according to current conventional wisdom.
