Sun. Jul. 3, 2022 – countdown to the noise…

Yeah, probably hot, and humid.   Got pretty hot yesterday in the sun.  Not horrible in the shade though, and ok when the breeze was coming off the lake.

I got a couple of projects off the list.  Took longer than I’d’ve liked but they always do.   Wife got some painting done, and the kids leveled up in Zelda.  Probably.

Then we spent some time in the water, and after dinner we set up the projector and screen on the dock and watched “Last Action Hero”.   What a fun movie.  Kids laughed through it.  I probably saw it in the theater, and if not, as soon as it hit the rental store.  It’s been a while but it held up.  Great cameos.

Today is more of the same.   Projects.  Paint.   Some relaxing, and some socializing.   Hopefully no one will be LifeFlighted today.

Stack up some community.   In the long run, it will brobably be your ‘make or break.’

What degree is your bachelors in ?

I graduated from TAMU a little over 40 years ago. I would hate to have to take the FE now.

I have an EE undergrad. No Fluids in ABET curriculum for the degree by 1988.

I took an HP 28S, CRC Math reference, and Lindberg’s review guide into the FE, and I took the test cold. I knew the calculator inside out and understood where to find things in the books.

The irony of the test was the prof who flunked half of our graduating class that Spring making yet another attempt at his FE/EIT, complaining vocally about the “the kids with fancy calculators”.

    Reagan quote of the day:

We don’t have inflation because the people are living too well, we have inflation because the government is living too well.

With the comment: They never miss a paycheck, do they?

I’ll add: And when they do, they always get it voted back.

Someone said they didn’t run the bilge fans before starting the engines…  whoosh.

There were some other serious problems with that boat beyond just not clearing the bilge. The electrical components are sealed against sparks, alternator and starter. Other components are marine rated to eliminate sparks. The exhaust manifold is contained within a water jacket to keep the heat down.

Something caused the spark that ignited the fumes. When I fueled my boat the bilge blower was on all the time. I waited five minutes after fueling before starting the engine.

And when they do, they always get it voted back.

Generally with a raise in pay and other benefits. The vote is rigged. They vote AGAINST the raise motion. To vote YES is voting to deny the raise. So they vote NO, tell their constituents they voted NO on the pay raise. People believe them when in reality by voting NO they voted for the raise.

Most members of congress and senate are in the job for the money, the easy lifestyle, and living off the efforts of others. They actually do very little work. Fact finding missions to Italy? Nope, just a paid vacation on a private jet provided by the government.

When I lived in San Antonio I had the unfortunate occasion to be on a flight with Henry B. Gonzales. He would fly first class to and from DC. When questioned on the expense he claimed he needed to do work on the flight. Bull Nuggets. He was fast asleep after consuming three or four of the mini bottles of booze.

One time when I was leaving DC I was next in line at the ticket counter. Some chap pushed in front of me. I called him out and told him to move. He then stated “do you know how I am?”. I said no, get in back of me. He then said he was congressman so-and-so and he was priority. I told him to F-off and get behind me. He did but in the process cut in front of other people in line.

I hung around after I got my ticket. He then berated the ticket agent because there were no first class seats and as a member of congress he was entitled to first class and demanded first class. He was still told no by the ticket agent. He demanded to see a supervisor and left with someone. I have no idea what happened.

The fireworks last night ran until after midnight.  We had 15 seconds of rain yesterday.  Not enough to wet the house roofs down.  Tonight will be constant barage and tomorrow night will be the war zone.

It is 87 F outside at 845am.  Gonna be a hot one today.  Not a cloud in the sky.  Maybe we will be lucky and get a thunderboomer at 4pm or so.

Church is just one service at 10am today.  Should be interesting.

Jet skis kill a lot of kids.

    Bing: “jet ski” fatalities children

Based on the USCG report, 600-700 jet ski accidents are reported every year, resulting in around 40 deaths…

2004-2018. High of 68, low of 34 deaths. No indication of age in this report.

    https://www.jetdrift.com/jet-ski-death-statistics/

According to 2011 data released by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, that year saw $316,856 in property damages from Florida jet ski accidents. In one county, Monroe County, one out of seventy-nine registered jet skis was involved in an accident!

    https://www.silverlawoffices.com/florida-jet-ski-accidents/

More deadly to kids and more dangerous overall that AR-15’s?

Seems low, one per holiday or spring break weekend, over dozens of lakes….

Could be getting better.   I was in Havasu in the mid 90s.

Still, this isn’t a big like like Conroe or Lake Houston.  To even have one tragedy a year seems high.

Another ‘Cassidy Blasey Ford’ Claim Appears Headed to the January 6 Committee Dumpster

Victoria Taft Jul 02, 2022 9:47 PM ET

The latest inconsistency may be the most serious one. Hutchinson may have misidentified a Trump Administration DOJ attorney — whose house was subsequently tossed, and all of whose electronics were confiscated by the Department of Justice. All while he was forced to stand outside in his pajamas. Oopsie!

Mike Davis, a D.C. attorney, former Supreme Court clerk, and leader of the Article III Project, says he believes the aide mistook “J Clark” in the White House logs for DOJ Assistant Attorney General Jeff Clark instead of Trump’s former campaign aide and White House public liaison, Justin Clark.

And then re-introduce it in Jan 2023.

Why do I suspect that there is not a reliable effort to collect jet ski accident statistics? It’s probably that they are under-reported, perhaps grossly so.

Another part of the pattern, one which I don’t believe I have ever noted on this forum.

The pattern is that there seems to be a coordinated effort to dilute the patriotic and traditional  holidays of the United States.

The “War on Christmas” is a real thing, and so is the “co-incidence” that most of our holidays have suddenly been joined by made-up carp.

We just had Father’s Day, but the media spent a lot more time on Juneteenth, a made-up holiday based on a non-event and non-existent historical practices.

We used to have Washington’s Birthday and Lincoln’s Birthday in February. Then they got rolled into President’s Day, a federal holiday with the date floating to maximize the weekend  for federal workers and bank closures (you do know that we don’t have 4-day weekends because federal law prohibits banks from closing for four days?)

Then, mysteriously, the entire month of February became Black History Month, which was then joined by another Democrat-declared federal holiday, MLK Day, which is in January.

Note that we don’t have a White History Month or a U.S. History Month.

Mother’s Day in the U.S. is the second Sunday in May. The Cinco de Mayo push by brewers and distillers has been on for years to provide an excuse to get drunk and celebrate illegal immigration. Even wikipedia is forced to note that it is more popular in the U.S. than Mexico. Our country has sunk so low that some courts have held that high school students can be forbidden to wear American flag teeshirts, but the Mexican flag is okay.

    Solar Experiment:

I just added an AC digital timer to the Jackery 2000 solar “generator” and a multi-gadget charger connected to it. I’ll turn it on 12:00am to 3:00 am. It currently will charge two iPads and a Kindle. I’ll add my Garmin Tactix one night a week since it holds a charge for about two weeks of regular use. It’s really blowing my Apple Watch out of the water for what I use them for.

The Jackery is still charging from solar every other day. Today’s a charging day, but the it is overcast right now. 66% juice left.

We don’t need it. Look around you. Practically everything you see was invented by, designed by, or built by White people. To put even more microaggression into the claim, almost everything you see was invented by White men.

  18. drwilliams says:

    @Greg

Isn‘t Cheney polling poorly heading into the primary in WY in August?

Only to the extent that she’s begging the 3 Democrats in Wyoming to cross over and help her in the primaries. Which is mathematically futile.

So, what’s the point of articles of impeachment? Popcorn sales.

    And providing:

–an interesting dilemma for House Democrats

–ditto for MSM and their remoras

–something that cannot escape note in the historical record, which will be used to debate whether Dick’s eight years as VP to a hopeless RINO gluteus osculator, and promoter of foreign adventurism that cost trillions and 7,000 service lives were more damaging than Liz’s blinding hatred of one of the best presidents in U.S. history and competition with Pelosi and Shiffter for most lies told on the floor of congress.

I’d consider the move successful if we can get Dumpi Whoopsberg to advocate voting for Liz

I disagree, but I’m not arguing for it on that basis.

It’s a simple “Principle of Symmetry” argument.

If we did base it on achievement, we’d have the “Eleven Months of White History” and move BHM to August.

  20. Nick Flandrey says:

Move BHM to the trash pile of history as a bad idea, promote AMERICAN history 10 months (are blacks not Americans?) and 2 months of European history with emphasis on why we left, how we’re different, and why it matters.

    Pride month too.

“Ready Player Two: A Novel” by Ernest Cline
       https://www.amazon.com/Ready-Player-Two-Ernest-Cline/dp/1524761346?tag=ttgnet-20/

Book number two of a two book fantasy series. I read the well printed and well bound trade paperback published by Ballantine Books in 2021. I suspect that there will be a third book in the series someday.

Wade Watts, Parzival, won the OASIS test with the help of his three friends and became the heir to James Halliday. After taking a week off, Wade found that Halliday had created the ONI, the OASIS Neural Interface, that connected the OASIS computers directly to your brain. Everything feels real and your body feels like it is actually in the simulation. But your brain does not feel your body and it is therefore unprotected, depending on your autonomic system to survive. Once released, the ONI made the OASIS even more addictive for most of the inhabitants of Earth.

Like the first book, the second book is a 1980s geekfest. The second book is reputedly being made into a movie. I don’t know if Spielberg is directing it again.

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Amazon rating: 4.3 out of 5 stars (37,573 reviews)

Let Reitman the Younger direct the second movie. Whether or not you thought “Afterlife” was a good “Ghostbusters” flick, the film showed that the director knows how to make “80s Amblin” better than The Beard himself as of late

“Stranger Things” met “The Goonies”, phoned home, and then busted some ghosts.

Good thing such an important holiday as Juneteenth fell on a Sunday this year so it could be “observed” on Monday with another day off.

@Jenny, Old at 50? Only if you have stress from overwork or health issues. Everyone has different cures and different life clocks. I am tempted to say “tough it out,” but that would be counterproductive. Some people thrive on stress, but many just kid themselves about it. Engineers and scientists are natural problem solvers, but most are not good at solving their own problems without advice or help. Sometimes that help is self-reflection, followed by changes and a different course of action. Wish you the best.

    –  had a really nice night.   Front row for the fireworks and they were like a ¾ sized version of a full on professional show.  Lost track of how long it went, it went so long.  And no worries about the crowd, or the drive home.  Plus we spent time chatting with friends.

Kids watched a movie and spent some time with our friends’ kids (who they know from swim team and neighborhood stuff at home.

I think the heat took all the stuffing out of me this week. Had health crises in 2012 and massive car crash in 2014. Left me reeling for a few years. Much better these days but I swear the two events aged me.

It’s been a long time since I’ve felt as old as today without being actually ill. All ok. Just a shocker to have a list of tasks and zero motivation or energy to tackle them. Yowzers. Looking forward to cooler weather.

Movies – Elvis, meh. Not sure it had much to do with Elvis. Liked the music. Couple next to me walked out about ⅓ way through. Minions – died laughing. Missed Phantom of the Open.

@Jenny, you have replaced OFD’s intolerance for heat on this site. If memory serves, he didn’t like much over 60. I don’t like much below 60. 90 feels cozy. On Saturday, we watched fireworks from our yard, and it was 82 with a breeze. Felt chilly. I always hated winter in the Midwest, where it occasionally went below zero. Cold hurts; heat relaxes.

However, I confine heavy outdoor work to cooler months here. I do respect sun and heat.
