Wed. June 3, 2020 – more stupidity nationally

By on June 3rd, 2020 in decline and fall, march to war, WuFlu

Hot and humid.  Chance of rain.

Hot all day yesterday.  I was in the truck most of the afternoon, and I will be again.  I bought some shelves to help organize my auction stuff in my storage area and I need to pick them up.  They are Metro racks on wheels, which should be useful.  I have a plan of attack for some stuff at my secondary location, I just need to find the time to execute.  That will improve a lot of things here at home too.

As I was driving around today, one of our local Houston talk radio hosts pointed out that only a few days ago, when people gathered to protest the continuing lockdown, our newbie democrat socialist emergency manager, the Mayor, the Chief of Police, and just about everyone else was condemning people for not social distancing, for gathering, for leaving their houses.  Suddenly, the Chief is HUGGING people, the Judge insists that protesting is the responsible thing for a citizen to do, and huge crowds of people are gathered every day with little PPE and no distancing.  So if it’s something they support, lockdown be damned.  And we’re not supposed to notice the duplicitous and self serving flip flopping…  Notice.  Write it down.  Keep track.  Vote.

Watching the most egregious attacks on cops last night, and then reading the comments, I really don’t see how we can avoid a civil war.  Lots of commentors on twitter noticing that too, seemingly for the first time.  There are people who haven’t given it much thought, and missed the Ferguson riots because they were too busy with work or family, but they’ve got time now, and they don’t like what they see.  That seems to be true for both sides.  Unless some single horrific event is so shocking that it changes the country’s mood, I think as part of the bigger overall changes in the world we’ll see an actual civil war here or some sort of low intensity apartheid.  I don’t see the sides reconciling or stepping back from the brink.

Think hard about what that might mean for you and yours.  Pandemic and the economic destruction we’ve seen in the last 3 months seemed a lot less likely than a civil war in the US, and yet… here we are.  War, pestilence, and famine.  Here we go.

Dinner was Taco Tuesday! Ole’!  Freezer meat, spice packet, fixin’s from the fridge, and a few of the 200 tortillas I put in the fridge when this all started.  Kid1 says “I LIVE for Taco Tuesday!”  Hooray for the daddy.

In the mean time, while we prepare for what might come, we continue on with our daily lives.

Keep stacking.  No matter what comes, it’ll be easier with money in the bank, stalwart allies, useful skills, and a full belly.

Orange Man wasn’t in charge. The Dems were running the show. Johnson pretty much ignored the Republicans, especially after the 64 election, except when he needed to get the Civil Rights Act passed.

Not many people seem to remember that the Dems were the big segregationists, particularly such leading lights as William Fullbright — as in “Fullbright Scholar” fame — and Albert Gore Senior. Neither one of those guys would help Johnson and voted “no” on the bill.

In my area people taking action and have the support of the police department. Extensive articles in our local paper, behind a paywall, so here is a report from one of our TV/Radio stations:
No reports of vandalism after armed citizens protect businesses, police say

  6. Ray Thompson says:

Saw an article on CNN (yes, I know, don’t hate me) pointing out the disparity between white and black in economic numbers. Wealth, income, poverty, health insurance, etc. All cherry picked to support the liberal rag agenda.

What was not shown was the educational level, the standardized test scores, the number on welfare who don’t want to work, the number convicted of crimes, members of gangs, etc. The level of education, desire to succeed is directly related to the economic numbers for wealth and income. Lazy people will never rise to the level of those willing to work regardless of their skin color. Simple fact.

What was truly astounding was pointing out the difference in the numbers of Covid-19 deaths. It was pointed out that blacks are 13% of the population while having 23% of the Covid-19 deaths. So now Covid-19 virus is racist? Could it be due the housing and being crammed in to ghetto slums that is the more likely culprit?

Minorities have more opportunities, more programs, more education opportunities, more free stuff than has ever existed in the past. Yet it does not seem to be helping. Could it be that it is a culture issue?

In my opinion everything should be skin, or ethnic neutral. People get what they get in terms of pay, promotions, jobs, etc. based on their abilities and efforts. To offer an advantage based on skin color is a slap in the face to those that have truly made it with their own effort. No one should be rewarded, nor will they better themselves, for sitting on their butts in public housing watching Oprah while gorging bags of Doritos. What is being used today is not equality, it racial favoritism. As long as that is the norm nothing will change. It has to stop.

So now Covid-19 virus is racist?

A ProgLibTurd claim from day one.

  8. Lynn says:

Dad and I put slinkies on one of his stand mounted bird feeders yesterday. This morning one of the squirrels broke the connection between the two slinkies trying to get up the stand. So we are going to try permanently attaching the slinkies to each other before I leave.

  9. Lynn says:

Is it just me or are the demonstrators majority white and the looters are majority black ?

  10. CowboySlim says:

We did not have a violent, looting demo here in Huntington Beach Sunday. The antifas came down and got out of their bus. Then the guys from a local UFC facility made their presence known and the antifas got back on their bus. Guess went up to Long Beach where there was some extensive damage, vandalism and looting. No Ultimate Fighting Championships here.

  11. Lynn says:

It was pointed out that blacks are 13% of the population while having 23% of the Covid-19 deaths.

Aren’t blacks more subseptible to getting diabetes ?

Diabetes is certainly going through the white population too. Three of my aunts and one of my uncles are diabetic.

  12. Greg Norton says:

Is it just me or are the demonstrators majority white and the looters are majority black ?

I haven’t seen many African American faces in either category in the video out of Downtown Austin.

A truck attempted to mow down a bunch of demonstrators last night in Austin, but, much to the local reporters’ disappointment, the driver appeared to be Hispanic, and not even a “White Hispanic” like George Zimmerman. Plus, the driver was visibly beyond legal DUI alcohol levels — I could smell his breath through my TV — further disappointing the media that the motivation couldn’t be ascribed to pure hatred.

  13. SteveF says:

In my opinion everything should be skin, or ethnic neutral.

So, what, people should be judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character? That sounds like something Hitler would say.

  14. Greg Norton says:

Aren’t blacks more subscetiple to getting diabetes ?

Definitely more susceptible to Lupus, which is treated with … hydroxychloroquine!

I don’t believe that genetics is a factor as much as environment. The community continues to make poor choices as evidenced by events such as last weekend’s “Orlando Invades Daytona” event in Florida which made national headlines for the shootings and other general mayhem.

  15. CowboySlim says:

Aren’t blacks more subseptible to getting diabetes ?

    And also obesity.

  16. CowboySlim says:

Now I observed thousands, in all demonstrations, that were neither practicing social distancing nor wearing masks.

If those requirements are truly valid and not politician drivel, then expect a 10 fold greater outbreak of KungFlu.

  17. Nick Flandrey says:

I want to ask anyone at the protests, what are you protesting? What do you want to happen? What would it take for you to stop protesting?

I’ll admit I’m puzzled. Apparently 60K people cared enough about a stranger dying far away to risk a deadly infection, with lifelong complications if you survive it, just in Houston. Granted, the guy with “a long history of contact with the police” was born here. But I truly don’t understand what motivated them to go stand in the sun for hours.

I wouldn’t even consider it, and even if I did, other concerns would make me pass.

I know the cynical reasons, but most of them must have some genuine and sincere reason other than boredom with the lockdown, fellow feeling, or outrage.

In a week or two, we should see about 6K additional sick people, 1000 of whom will be really sick, and 400 of those will probably die.

And for what? A MN cop employed one of the techniques his department trained for and endorsed. If there was an allegation that the cop himself was a racist, I haven’t heard it. He was excessively violent, possibly. But where are the tats? Where are the incriminating social media posts? Is there anything to suggest that he killed the guy because he was black?

If so I missed it (which is possible, because I really don’t care on a personal level and wasn’t paying too much attention early on.

Here’s a thought. Given that MN police department CLEARLY has issues (vis the shooting of an unarmed female by a somali officer), and given that MNPD has a written policy for employing choke holds, maybe, just maybe, it would be more effective to lobby for real citizen oversight of police policy and procedure? Maybe learn what your local PD think is justifiable, and reasonable use of force?

Or you could just put a black square on your gossip and envy site… yeah, that’ll show ’em.

The “tin foil hat” media sites are starting to carry stories about prestaged bricks and looters being driven to stores and equipped with power tools.

If any of those reports are even remotely true, then the demonstrations/looting have been planned for a while and just needed the right event to provide cover for implementation of an agenda.

The general public is over the virus beyond looking for an extension of benefits to stay home and stream Baby Yoda and “Friends” on HBO Max. If sick people aren’t forced to stay home — as we do with TB patients — why should anyone else?

We still take precautions at our house, but most people here are cautious to some extent with regard to the bug, whether quarantining as much as possible or simply avoiding crowds.

MrsAtoz, the Twins and a friend brought a 26′ Penske truck last week full of more crap to keep/sell/donate/trash. Working through it.

We all had lunch at Pappadeaux’s Seafood. The staff wore masks, patrons optional. Tables were 6 feet apart which is fine with me. No patrons, including us wore *face covers*. I even forgot to take one. We went furniture shopping with the same policies. Hopefully soon staffs will not be required to wear FCs. It must be a PITA to wear one all day. Especially in a kitchen.

And this little jewel from Ben and Jerry’s over which the news media is salivating and patting the owners on the back.

    We must dismantle white privilege.

Exactly how do they propose that is to happen. All their website indicates is to silence Trump, make him come down on white supremacist groups (nothing about black supremacist groups such as the Congressional Black Caucus, NAACP, etc.), add in more government oversight and control. Only good thing they address is police accountability. But I fear that will come to the point where the police will refuse to arrest any black person out of fear for their job.

Other than that how do I get rid of my “white privilege”? I worked for everything I have. Should I be mandated to give half of it up to a struggling black family? Would that make me feel better? I worked hard in school (well, most of the time), I worked hard growing up, nothing was handed to me by the government in terms of welfare and special programs based on the color of my skin.

I am not a member of the White Congressional Caucus, the NAAWP, never applied to the United Caucasian College Fund, never attended a predominately black college which gives preference in admission to non-whites, do not watch WET (White Entertainment Television), never watched a show called “White-ish”. If I did so I would be called a racist, and rightly so. Yet change one word, one color, and those programs do exist.

Exactly what white privileges have I missed?

  24. SteveF says:

Should I be mandated to give half of it up to a struggling black family?

    You probably do.

A few years ago I added up all of the personal and business taxes and fees, property taxes, vehicle registration fee, sales tax, use tax, etc. It came to half of my gross. That was when I still owned a business so there were some additional taxes and fees, but there were also some deductions I was able to take advantage of.

Ben and Jerry are poster children for the argument that weed legalization should only happen after careful consideration of the impact over-indulgence will have on some individuals and the society at large.

Oh, yes! I wonder what you had to put up as security.

In my case, I did a mortgage “re-fi” on our previously paid-off home. Used some of the money to build my shop-garage. Have enough cash to pay off the mortgage whenever I want to, but at the rate I have, I won’t. I am making a higher rate of return than the mortgage on conservative investments. Foolish? Ask Ric Edelman. This is a way we little people can reduce taxes, and it is perfectly legal. Always use OPM* if you can.

Cypress? No ideal. It’s left Cypress.

Expected delivery was Friday. Now Saturday. If this is that SmartPost junk, well, the local PO closes at 10 AM on Saturday. I’m not exactly thrilled that it’s looking like Monday before I can fix the stove.

Then again, once upon a time you would order something and be happy when it was delivered three weeks later. 🙂

Looked at DreamHost’s policy, and it seems fair. I have never looked at any other, nor have I ever had my own site.

Made me think about all the complaining about social media anti speech policies that favor one political stance over another. Without getting into the legalities or constitutional issues, it seems to me the best way to avoid all this hassle would be to get one’s own site. It is cheap, and I would be my own master. There must be ways to get the attention (but probably not the monetization) that some sites offer (YouTube,) but for most of us little guys that is not an issue.

Forex, the pres could use the White House’s own site. I would bet all the newsies would follow him there. Then, some of the site’s own moderators could flag some of the comments as fake/unfair. Seems fair to me. Why all the fuss?

Hey, if more people would do this, maybe, just maybe those bad ones would shrivel up and die.

SmartPost. The Post Office is trying to optimize the load on its trucks, and the shipper gets a break in postage in return.

I had one item shipped from San Antonio take a tour of the east half of the state, out to Tyler (American Standard probably gets its own truck) and back over a couple of days.

Priority used to be not much more expensive as long as the package was going to another address in Texas.

  38. paul says:

Well, I paid $7.95 for shipping and handling. Priority Mail boxes are free….

I had one package coming from California. It went to Atlanta. Then I forget where before it went to San Antonio and to Dallas and finally to Austin and delivered to the Post Office. It was strange.

  39. Nick Flandrey says:

Bracken is just an occasional link at WRSA, he’s got his own thing going.

WRSA relocated to gab for now.

People use the big platforms because they have reach and the tools are not even recognized as tools. FB is a walled garden. Some people there don’t even realize that it’s just a website on the internet like any other, and then never go anywhere that isn’t linked from there. Twitter never made sense to me, but if you shout into the crowd often and loud enough, it seems that then people will repeat what you say, or something like that. Why you’d want to do that, I don’t know.

CA at WRSA said he stayed on the other’s platform to be a canary in a coal mine for the coming purge. It’s interesting that it happened after all this time so soon after posting wazzizname’s whole book from Sipsey Street Irregulars.

At least the pathetic begging for “likes” is mostly pro forma now. That was cringeworthy for a while.

Atlanta is probably the Post Office finding space on a UPS truck or airplane.

I have a Fedex Ground package that is now going on six weeks touring the country. The item was not expensive or navigating the Fedex phone tree would have been a higher priority.

  41. Nick Flandrey says:

Nothing at all editorial or inflammatory in this statement from the freaking STAGEHAND’s union….

We share in the heartbreak, frustration and anger surrounding the tragic murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis Police. We stand in solidarity with the African American community as together we grieve yet another lawless, racist killing in our country.

and of course there is always the list of stuff they want

We must and will apply pressure across the board for systematic change to value Black lives through full and unified equal protection under the law, public health, medical care, education, housing, business development, and economic change and equality. We are prepared to advocate for specific, necessary policy and legislation, and we stand ready to lock arms with allies who are primarily focused on racial justice and reform.

and some groups are even more special than the other special groups

Although buildings are burning, a life has been taken, and we cannot lose sight of the countless times our brothers and sisters of the African American community have been robbed of their lives by acts of injustice, racism, and bigotry. Still, we denounce violence and the destruction of property perpetrated by opportunists who seek to take advantage of this painful moment for personal gains. Additionally, it is absolutely unacceptable for the police to target reporters and their crews with violence or arrest for doing their constitutionally protected jobs.

Of course this union, supported by mandatory fees collected from workers under threat of force, contributed over $40M to democrat politicians during the original BHO campaign. That’s a lot of scratch.

But they’re not the only ones.

Jackie Taylor, the Founder, CEO, Executive Director of the Black Ensemble Theater speak against racism, injustice, and the continual systematic murdering of Black people by a racist American system.

    — “the continual systematic murdering of Black people by a racist American system” — you read that part right?

Racism is embedded in the American culture. That culture must be changed. Those of us who understand that murder is wrong, racism is wrong, and injustice is wrong must speak out. We cannot be silent. I’m not advocating looting and burning but I understand it. People are sick and tired of the American racist way and they are screaming for it to stop. I do not condone violence, but I do condone Action – do something or say something, or speak out even if it’s just to a neighbor—let’s spread the word that this murdering of Black people must be stopped—period! This modern-day lynching must come to an end.

–not a word out of this hypocrite about the ongoing slaughter of black babies by Planned Parenthood, or the weekly body count out of Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, Philly, or any of the other black dominated democratic party run shitholes.

–it gets better, this racist woman lives in CHICAGO and grew up in Caprini Green, one of the most notorious housing projects in the US.

And, a certain percentage of the ‘beneficiaries’ would almost immediately kill themselves with drugs, or violence, fighting over whose bling is brighter…

Yeah, I’m channeling my inner something that is tired of all the Hate Whitey stuff.

Let’s see. 350 million population. 13% black. Hmm. If 10% of the population go, the crime rates go way down, welfare payments go down, the screeching of Respect me Whitey goes away.

Africa wins again with a huge influx of money and smart people.

Ok, now if this works, then we have to figure what to do with the White Trash that didn’t go to Africa. England had Australia…. hmm. Argentina?

He threw a barrier into the road and incited others to be disorderly, the Lancaster Police Department in Pennsylvania said
Torres kicked an officer in the head twice and headbutted another cop
Torres told numerous authorities that he was infected with coronavirus

Just look at the fate of most lottery winners, half the NFL and NBA, almost all boxers, 3/4 or more music industry “acts”, and any number of other examples of what happens when you give people a lot of money.

It is everyone. Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac) has filed bankruptcy seven ??? times.

The vast majority of people do not handle sudden influxes of money very well.

  60. paul says:

The numbers I’ve seen put the per person take closer to $300k.

Hey, didn’t say it was going to be a million _US_ dollars. Just a million of Tanganyika dollars or whatever.

A million of the local currency.

Put that on page 44 of the contract…..

Heh, dump a couple of million in my bank account and about all you will notice is that I have people clearing the brush off of the place and maybe a paint job on my 2002 truck.

The paint job is not a sure thing.

Yeah, I’d like a Rolls. Or a Bentley. Or a restored ’57 Chrysler. A rebuilt ’75 Cordoba. But, nah, I have my truck… more stealthy, too.

Might get a faster plan with my ISP… might. 25/5 seems to be fast enough that I have to wait for sites to load.

It was pointed out that blacks are 13% of the population while having 23% of the Covid-19 deaths.

Aren’t blacks more subseptible to getting diabetes ?

Diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity – all of which make COVID more deadly. The first two are genetic. Don’t know about the third.

  64. JimB says:

…maybe a paint job on my 2002 truck.

Nah. Patina! Have you seen the ratty customs with original paint in various stages of decay? People pay big bucks to get that look, and genuine is sought after. Here is a mild example:
    https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-395550-1.html

It gets much more extreme, but, uh taste.

Normal blood pressure due to Rx’s for such. Neither diabetes nor insulin. 5′ 11″ and 150 lbs, obesity? Not the least bit worried.

Although some things are not ringing true. The pallets of bricks (or pavers) are often in areas where cities are “beautifying” intersections with brick sidewalks, and from surveillance video, they SHOULD be able to trace back to when the bricks first appeared. I think that many of the pallets are completely innocent, staged by the cities as part of their spring public works. The thing about outsiders is problematic for me too. EVERY area reports that the troublemakers are “outsiders”. So the NY thugs travel to Chicago? Philly to Portland and Portland to Philly? How would they have any legitimacy without local contacts? And why WOULDN’T there be locals, who know the area, could plan unobtrusively, etc? The thing in DC with hidden weapons isn’t right either. NO WAY could infiltrators place weapons in a park across from the White House without being observed. That’s some of the most heavily surveilled area on earth, and it hasn’t been mobbed with tourists. Something ain’t right.

  68. Harold Combs says:

I want to ask anyone at the protests, what are you protesting? What do you want to happen? What would it take for you to stop protesting?

I asked this question of a liberal friend in California today. She referred me to Anonymous and said BLM had a great list of demands. I googled the BLM demands, they all are about white people giving all their ill gotten possessions to people of color. WTF does this have to do with police? They seriously don’t have a single demand that can be realized. Even the ubiquitous “police reform” is nonsense because all police are local and each department reflects the values of its community. Plus how do you reform the many black run or black majority departments? Its clear that there’s no resolution to this nonsense of unrealistic and constantly changing “demands”. Adults would demand these emotionally immature protesters sitting down and shut up.

  69. Harold Combs says:

The media love for constant images of violence is having an effect. My 85 year old mother in law watched too much TV and sat on her front porch with her shotgun most of the night to fight off looters. Never mind she lives 80 miles from the nearest city, on 80 rural acres, down 3 miles of dirt road from the nearest pavement. At least ANTIFA was smart enough to avoid her place.

  70. Nick Flandrey says:

Police chiefs are political appointees. The cities are governed by elected officials. They set policy. The worst affected cities, where they are making demands that the existing status quo be changed, have been run by the same bunch of Democrats for DECADES.

You want change? Vote out the entrenched Democratic machine. They have not improved your situation one tiny bit. Infrastructure crumbles, businesses flee, lawlessness, homelessness and poverty increase, basic civil services are curtailed, and NOW you want change??? NOW? From the very same people who have been running things forever?

Show me you’re serious about change. Vote Republican.

I’d propose $50K one time reparation payment as long as the recipient forfeits ALL state and federal assistance for life and this applies to their children. No WIC, no welfare, no section 8 housing, nothing. The program would pay for itself in savings.

  73. Nick Flandrey says:

After the money ran out, they’d still be here though, in the same condition that prompted all those assistance programs in the first place. Sooner or later, they’d be getting some sort of aid again.

“To everyone who is old enough and those of us who aren’t but who have read about the sixties and particularly those of us who have followed the glorification and idolization of what was a Soviet agit prop operation using stupid American middle class kids, this is starting to feel like one of those bad remakes.”

    “Mostly because it is.”

The first comment is the best, “(In other news, sorry guys, but there is no Easter Bunny and Santa Claus as you heard of him, is also not real.)
At least we know that the Brick Fairy is real.”

And people are now calling antifa the “vanilla ISIS” ?

  76. Ray Thompson says:

Would not work. All you would see is a surge in gold teeth, hair extensions, fancy Expensive finger nails, fancy sound systems in the 20 year old Camry with plastic for the rear window. Within three months most would be penniless, back in the projects, complaining about injustice demanding more money. There is a reason they are poor. Non-existent life skillS, no money skills, no work ethic, lazy as taught by their mother and no father figure other than the drug dealer on the top floor.

Patina? Oh, the truck has that. The clear coat is peeling off in spots.

My ’78 Volare wagon had an Earl Schrieb (sp?) paint job. The only time the car looked waxed was when wet. Truck isn’t that bad.
