Tues. April 23, 2019 – busy again…

By on April 23rd, 2019 in Random Stuff

Probably cool and wet. Rain in the forecast.

I’m out all morning, and evening, with sporadic work breaking out during the day. Commenting will likely be light, but I know you guys can pick up the slack.

I’ll check in as I can. Don’t burn the place down.

59º and cloudy today, with thunder-boomers predicted for the afternoon, before clearing this evening.

Today is the first TNRL for the season – Tuesday Night Racing League. It’s not really racing, except in the sense that any time two people are running, one has to finish faster than the other. It’s a social thing – 10-30 people in different places around the county. Hopefully, the rain doesn’t dampen things too much.

Samsung is holding back the folding-screen phone. I think this is a good idea, especially after the Note 7 problems of a few years ago. It may be a great idea, but releasing it before the bugs are worked out is a recipe for disaster.

Windows 10 has a folder called “WindowsApps” under my Program Files directory. Harder to get rid of than a proselytizing evangelical atheist. But I’ll get it, I will. It wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t sucking up 25 GBytes of storage with largely duplicating folders. 10 copies of Disney something? I don’t think so.

Have you tried using the disk cleanup utility and selecting the option for system files?

That may be my next step.

The truly infuriating thing about this whole thing is that my home PC, built over the years, and upgraded from Windows 7 Pro, has none of this garbage. The work PC bought directly from Dell for BUSINESS is the one that has this kind of garbage. I need to develop a plan for cleaning this kind of garbage off. Two of the 4 owners are finding themselves disk constrained, and that 25 GBytes could be put to good use.

(Don’t ask about more disk space. I can’t win.)

Two years ago, my new Lenovo T series ThinkPad (business class) came with so much Windows app junk that I eventually installed Windows 10 clean with an ISO from Microsoft. Everything is much better.

2.5″ SATA laptop drives are dirt cheap, even SSDs.

Mr. Ray, how’s that stone coming along? Watch the Oxy use and send me the leftovers. 😉

No issues today. Minor discomfort. Oxy will be the last choice as I really want to avoid such drugs unless really necessary. As for mailing, nope. Knowing my luck the feds would intercept and I would be in the big house.

Ol’ “Ambien Eyes” is back on the campaign trail. Life back at the C-suite at Dell must have been boring in comparison to running for office on California money.

    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/texas-john-cornyn-to-face-air-force-vet-mj-hegar-in-2020-senate-race.amp

IMHO, Cornyn has more to worry about from MJ Hegar than Robert Francis or the idiot Castro brother (ok, they’re both idiots).

Hegar has a good story, relative youth, runs on a “girls stick together theme”, and, as demonstrated when her polls went south running against our wheezebag incumbent in the district, isn’t above using the tale of her mother’s abusive marriage … to a man … to move the numbers in her favor.

Fortunately, in our district, in the end, it came down to pork. Anyone who has been to the VA in Temple can tell you why. It certainly wasn’t the incumbent’s magnetic personality.

What might work in Cornyn’s favor is that the Castros and their supporters in Texas Democrat Party politics can’t let this nomination slip away or risk their family dynasty ending next year. Even after opening all those doors, Hegar is still a white woman who works for Dell.

Dude ! I was just getting ready to post this !

And I agree. People are going to feel sorry for her. I’ll bet that my county, Fort Bend County, votes 60% for her.

I don’t think the Castros can afford to let Hegar win the primary, especially if Mayor Nirenberg wins reelection in San Antonio and establishes himself as the new Prog power in that part of Texas.

Lets watch and see how much of the tattoo work Hegar covers up in the primary ads. And, as my wife pointed out every time the commercials aired last Fall, something is wrong with the woman’s eyes, hinting at some kind of medication. What passes as acceptable in the Austin suburbs doesn’t necessarily play well in the rest of Texas.

Oh, it plays well in Harris County (Houston) and Fort Bend County (aka the expats of California) also.

Hopefully I do not offend anyone here but to me, tattoos are usually some expression of personal pain and mistreatment. And she has got quite a few of them.

Dr Drew, (of the radio and TV show) says that tattoos and body modification are almost always a way to take control of a body the person lost control of either thru abuse or addiction. He’s seen or talked to 10’s of thousands of people in his addiction medicine practice and seems pretty down to earth and credible to me.

Several things in the article about Hegear red flag her for me…

“I would see my scars and remember,” Hegar says. “It felt like the Taliban had won.”
As a way to reclaim her body, she decided to cover up the scars on her arm” [if they were ‘superficial’ why did they need covering up? Does covering up and suppressing memories work in a good way????] [I’ve got some interesting scars. I never considered for a moment that they meant anything other than that I survived something that happened to me. I’ve mentioned before, I’m not Frankenstein’s monster, but the ones on my face are the first thing people ask about after meeting me, after more than 30 years of healing and fading…. I’ve got about a hundred stitches in my face, and if they’d have brought in a plastic surgeon that would likely be doubled, but at least 80 don’t even show anymore. I still get asked.]
    —-
“”It’s more art and beauty and less toxic masculinity,” Hegar says. ”
    —-
Hegar says. “One of my strengths is that I embrace both physical and emotional scars and grow from those experiences.”

“”I think that it’s important that we elect people who are reflective of everyday Americans and the working class,” Hegar says. ”
    —-
“In 2012, Hegar and four other servicewomen filed a legal suit against then-U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, claiming that the Combat Exclusion Policy, which kept women out of serving in ground combat, was unconstitutional. ” [I bet her chain of command loooovveeed her.]

In other news, I don’t need a new roof from hail damage.

We had some hail move thru and this time I let the ambulance chaser roofers take a look. They brought out my insurance adjuster, and he confirmed my suspicion that there wasn’t any real damage. He also gave me some history on my roof and reports that it’s about the best roof you could buy in the last 20 years, looks fine, and is still better than anything currently on the market. It was installed properly with good details and will outlast the flashings and other penetrations. In other words, hooray, no need for a new roof or spending my $6k deductible.

I’m currently home between my volunteer day at school, and going to meet the air unit for my CPA class. Slab of meat is in the crock pot, with some potatoes, carrots, and turnips and it smells AWESOME.

Hah, just got an email from our school superintendent. He’s leaving us for another district. I’ve thought (and written about) him being a weasel before, now I know he is. FOUR years and he’s moving on. He’s BRAGGING about the enormous size of the bonds they got passed while here. During his tenure, I don’t think a single one of our schools were named as “Exemplary” by the state. Previous Super had several. F’ing quitter. Good riddance.

  15. Nick Flandrey says:

Our school board just sent a message too.

“The Board of Trustees will convene a special meeting within the next week to discuss the transition, at which time, we will begin the conversation to determine our process for identifying the next best leader for our school district. ”

So they didn’t know, or couldn’t act on his potential departure, leaving us with no Superintendent while they “begin the conversation to determine our process for identifying the next best leader.”

I wonder how long he knew he was the only candidate for the other job? Weasel.

I just watched the Hegar tattoo video. Youtube shows you ‘related’ or ‘you might like’ videos at the end….

    HeMan- Masters of the Universe,
The Secret of NIMH [animated movie about uplifted rats]
Alpha and Omega [animated dog movie]
    Freddie mercury story
    Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey

    Not exactly high brow material……

That’s a little unfair. “Bogus Journey” is important to film history in that, according to legend, the unique rock outcropping location of the Vasquez Rocks was lost to Hollywood until the director decided he wanted that “Star Trek – Kirk vs. Gorn” terrain in the climactic sequence.

No less than William Shatner helped locate the site from memory and his pilot’s training, and he gets a “Thanks to” citation in the end credits. Remember, this was way before Google Maps.

*Everybody* uses the Vasquez Rocks outcropping now, especially “Star Trek” and other sci fi shows.

I don’t care about the tattoos as much as the hypocrisy when Hegar strategically covered them in rapidly moving camera shots for ads running on the local Fox station during the 10 PM news.

Lots of CA money and consultants in the Congressional campaign.

Anybody heard anything about the two soldiers detained by Mexicali’s on our side of the border? Seems weird how quiet trump and the DoD have been. They should have assumed a defensive posture and called in reinforcements at the least. Maybe Obuttwad has really pussified our military.

Anybody heard anything about the two soldiers detained by Mexicali’s on our side of the border?

One story, dated 4 days ago, found with the googles search of ‘two soldiers detained by mexico on our side of the border’ https://www.newsweek.com/mexican-soldiers-question-disarm-two-us-army-troops-apparent-confusion-about-1401939

And this story, from one day ago https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/us-military-rules-under-review-after-soldiers-surrendered-pistol-to-mexican-troops-on-american-soil .

I’m sure it was handled quietly but competently.

“As you can see here, this is Colonel Valdez, leader of the troops on your side of the border in this area. This delicate moment in the el bano (sp?) was caught by the night scope of our new sniper rifle from 900 yards. I trust there won’t be any more problems.”

    “No Senor Trump”

    “Thank you, Mr. Ambassador”

Aesop, over at Raconteur Report, who has spent some years on that very same border, had much to say about it. https://raconteurreport.blogspot.com/2019/04/this-is-going-to-end-well.html

I did see one reference in the last couple days that DoD wants answers, in a Daily Mail article.

Yeah, pussification. The entire chain of command on this op should be cashiered. Just unbelievable. Next time issue them axe handles to complete the castration.
