Tues. Aug. 25, 2020 – more school, more to do, wind coming

Hot and humid, slightly less so.

Monday was a tiny big cooler and dryer than the last few days.   It still got pretty hot especially once the sun came out.  It was ‘roast your scalp’ hot then.

So when it got hot I did my errands.   Picked up my client’s dead projector.  Still dead.  Picked up my auction items.  Went by my secondary storage.  I really need to get stuff to auction.  I’ve got piles here and I need to get them under cover or out of here before the big wind.  Both of my local auctions are not returning my calls, which means they are super busy with their own stuff.  Bummer for me.

I’ll be trying to get a bunch more stuff into the garage and out of the driveway today.   I’ve got a bunch of stuff sitting on the patio that I don’t really want torn up by the wind either.

On the other hand, the pool is sparkling clean now.  Keeping the pecan debris, and the squirrel waste out helped a lot.  Of course it will be messed up by rain and hurricane wind.

I’m debating what to do with my antennas.  I might try to get the big one down.  The little ones should be ok even if the wind gets high.  I will see what kind of time I have after doing the other ground based stuff first.

Lots to do in little time.  Time to get the lead out.  I was really hoping to do this in an organized way but I think it’s going to come down to chucking stuff in a pile.  Oh well, best laid plans and all that.

Second day of school too.  We’ll see how that goes this time around.

I did get some stuff taken over to my secondary.  I’ll work on building that back up and it will help me to get some of the stuff out of here too.

Always something that needs stacking…  gotta keep it up.

  1. “Our HEB was dead tonight when we drove by.”

Everyone cleaned out HEB, Kroger, and Walmart on Saturday. Sunday at Kroger was not even that crowded but it was fully stocked for us.

Sloppy Joe’s is still closed so I can’t access my favorite metric for storm intensity crossing that part of the Gulf.

People are freaked right now so any fake shortage events the media creates with the storm will be ugly.

  2. What about black males assaulting black women or black children ?

For about ten years now, American whites have been told to butt out of blacks’ business, whether it’s black “youths” “wilding” and trashing parks or stores, blacks rioting, blacks stealing, or blacks impregnating preteens. You’ll note that blacks’ “business” is exclusively pathological behavior; whites are expected to step up when it’s “gib me muh gibs” time.

Black men attacking black women and children is a pathological behavior.

Therefore I, as a nominally white man, will mind my own business.

Put another way, certain elements of American society are doing their best to deepen divisions, to form a clear “us” versus “them” mentality. Black regard me as “them” so I’m willing to do the same to them. And if their children do not matter to them, why should they matter to me?

  3. Just a data point, Classic Firearms – online retailer- sent out a eletter saying “check out our ammo” so I did.

They are out of stock on 80% of their normal inventory. What’s left is a who’s who of weirdo and single use calibers. No normal handgun calibers in stock at all. No normal rifle calibers. There is an argument for having guns chambered in different or unusual calibers so that you can get some ammo during a drought, but I’d argue that in good times weird stuff is harder to find and more expensive. Better to get a popular and cheap caliber and STACK IT HIGH when you can.

The ProgLibTurds are pushing BLM as their armed branch of thuggery. Marxism at it’s finest. 13% of the population will not cow the rest. Eventually, shop owners, homeowners, will be armed and fighting back. It will be devastating for the Black community. Instead of integrating into classic American society, Blacks are setting themselves back 50 years. Live in your single parent neighborhoods, rap your Ebonics, prey on the weak. Good luck. You won’t get any sympathy from me. Throw in COVID mask diaper fear and it is “Game over, Man, game over.”

  5. I stopped by my local gun store this weekend to pick up some cleaning supplies. Sad sight. There were only 3 handguns in the display case and about maybe half a dozen rifles. Ammo was just a meager assortment of odd calibers. The owner told me that he can’t get any inventory and what is available is generally going to the big retailers. He’ll be retiring in a couple of months when the current lease runs out. The young guy who was working there and planning to take over the business after the owner retired has bailed. No future in it.

  6. Scanner has sheriff’s deputies doing warrant service and parole violators. Lots of sitting around staking out apartments and workplaces.

  7. @jlp, that’s what’s happening at my buddy’s too. He’s got a steady business of transfers until all the US inventory is sold out.

Gunbroker still has a few things. SW Bodyguard in 380 is sold out everywhere including GB. In general, novelty guns from faraway places, really off brands, and very expensive guns are about all that is left out there.

There are some exceptions. Lots of cowboy revolvers 🙂

It’s funny that all the people who bought guns to “sell when prices come up during the next panic” don’t seem to be selling. Ditto on ammo.

I’m headed over to my buddy’s, I’ve got at least one thing to put on consignment.

Also an argument for reloading. 😉

  9. Also an argument for reloading.

Can you still find brass and primers?
I asked Santa for a Rock Chucker reloading set but he said they were out of stock.

I used to reload 38 and 357 for my quick draw revolvers in my youth but haven’t touched a powder measure in 45 years.

  10. Reloading supplies are also in short supply according to other blogs.

    https://spacecityweather.com/laura-now-a-strengthening-hurricane-likely-headed-to-upper-texas-coast/

The current prediction is for a Cat 3 or Cat 4 hurricane making landfall between Houston and Lake Charles. Otherwise known as Beaumont. On late Wednesday night.

Galveston island is now under a mandatory evacuation order. Time to run !

And, Laura can still move just about anywhere along the Gulf coast or, horrors, stall and gain strength.

    https://cnsnews.com/article/washington/susan-jones/scalise-scolds-pelosi-calling-gop-domestic-enemies-i-was-shot

“(CNSNews.com) – “Disgusting,” Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) tweeted on Monday. “Nancy Pelosi just called Republicans ‘domestic enemies.’ I was shot because of this kind of unhinged rhetoric. Where’s the media outrage?””

Scalise does not get it. Pelosi and her deranged followers want to put Scalise and us, the deplorables, the normals, up against a wall and shoot us. Even th0ugh we are 80% of the population.

Houston should be on the dry side of the storm unless the track changes significantly. New Orleans is going to get the rain they missed with the last storm, which pounded North Florida.

    https://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/Exxon-Mobil-dropped-from-the-Dow-after-92-years-15512970.php?cmpid=trend

“To offset the decrease, the blue-chip Dow will replace Exxon Mobil with cloud-based software company Salesforce. Founded in 1999, Salesforce’s stock has risen 27-fold since March 2009, according to Bloomberg News.”

“Energy giant Exxon Mobil, the oldest member of the index, joined the Dow in 1928 as Standard Oil of New Jersey. The Dow’s last original member, General Electric, was removed in 2018, CBS News reported.”

Wow. Welcome to the world that we have so many plentiful energy choices that the suppliers are having trouble staying in business. Except California where they are shutting down fossil and nuclear so the only energy choices are the so-called renewables.

The last time I looked at Salesforce stock, something like 50% of their revenue went to marketing — an insane amount of hookers and steaks.

I also have a bias since some of the bozos I worked with at the Death Star went over to the semi-secret Salesforce development shop in Tampa near the airport, including my last manager.

I have been binge watching “Santa Clarita Diet” with Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant on Netflix. Freaking crazy show.

    and

Anyway, both of them are realtors. In the next to last episode on season two, their boss, the realtor broker, is trying to make an exclusive representation deal with a residential developer. Barrymore’s character tries to get the developer to build ultra high tech homes. Instead, her boss takes the developer to a men’s establishment and gets him plastered. So, the concept is still out there.

Is the term “men’s establishment” sexist ? I am trying to keep from using another term such as a more intimate version of “strip club”.

When I worked for Jabil Circuit in the 90s, a key part of keeping the Quantum hard drive contract involved taking the customer on trips to the infamous Mons Venus strip club in Tampa. Fortunately, that wasn’t my project.

Later, when I worked for GTE, customers from Venezuela (pre revolution) came to visit, and when we asked them what they knew about Tampa back home, the response was Bern’s Steak House and … The Mons Venus. Even the women.

    https://www.ogj.com/general-interest/economics-markets/article/14182293/ihs-markit-world-oil-demand-expected-to-plateau-just-below-precovid-levels

“World oil demand has grown at a record pace—by 13 million b/d in the last 4 months—since the bottom of the COVID-induced collapse in April. But that pace of growth is expected to taper off with global crude demand plateauing just below pre-pandemic levels, according to a new analysis by IHS Markit.”

“Global crude demand surged from May to July with the easing of some COVID-19 restrictions and now rests at 89% of prior year levels–compared to being at 78% in April.”

“IHS Markit expects demand growth to wane and plateau at 92-95 million b/d (or roughly 92-95% of prior year levels) through first-quarter 2021.”

Wow. Those are drastic swings of usage in a very fluid commodity, crude oil and distilled products.

    https://www.breitbart.com/social-justice/2020/08/24/watch-kenosha-residents-fire-warning-shots-as-rioters-threaten-neighborhoods/

“On Monday night, rioters in Kenosha, Wisconsin spread their civil unrest from primarily urban and commercial centers, to residential areas.”

“And the residents in those areas were having none of it.”

“Shortly after midnight, a group of demonstrators got in their cars and traveled to a residential neighborhood where they parked in a grassy area across from a row of houses. As they began exiting their vehicles, a homeowner emerged from his house and began firing warning shots at the rioters.”

Justified in my view. Not sure if the local authorities are going to see it that way.

  21. The only warning shot I know is the first shot that knocks down the lead rioter. That serves as a warning to the others.

I thought Biden was disqualified for any political office when he chaired the Senate committee approving Clarence Thomas for SCOTUS and allowed Anita Hill to testify.

“They brandished firearms, and they did so at the police. All the police did was throw gas from the vehicle to move them back so they could drive away.”

“Then as they drove off, the rioters shot at the police vehicle.”

“So as you watch this, ponder these questions: “Do you have any doubt left in your mind that in order to stop the communist revolution, these people are going to have to be shot? If they will do this to the police, do you have any doubt left in your mind that they would do this to you?”

Biden was actually regarded as tough on Anita Hill.

Mike Dukakis opposition research sent Plugs to the showers in 1987, derailing his Presidential ambitions for several cycles. Biden was part of DLC IIRC, not well regarded by the mainstream of the party when the Thomas nomination came up.

Thomas sits in Thurgood Marshall’s seat. That was supposed to be a unanimous vote, but the Dems wanted to bloody Bush Sr. sufficiently that Cuomo the Elder would feel he could receive the coronation to the throne he always wanted. I don’t think even Plugs felt comfortable with how far the hearings went, but, in the end, he voted ‘no’ on the nomination, probably with an eye to the future beyond 1992.

What Plugs didn’t anticipate was “the future” not arriving until 2020. His ambition in 1988 was to be the youngest President elected in history.

  25. I was born and raised in Wisconsin. Kenosha used to be a nice place. Madison, the Capitol, has been a ProgLibTurd shit-hole for decades. I’ll go there after the MOAB.

I’m glad people are shooting back. A little now will help prevent a fusillade later. I’m serious. Mobs of BLM thugs are going to just break down residence doors. They are emboldened by goobermint PLTs. The real shooting war then starts. Someone tries to kick in my door they are going to regret it. Well, the survivors will.

  26. Someone tries to kick in my door they are going to regret it. Well, the survivors will.

    Survivors?

Seems to me someone needs some remedial training.

  27. Biden was actually regarded as tough on Anita Hill.

Biden had already been “handsy” several times by that point in his political career. He might have been playing a long game, working to discredit any woman who accused a public figure of any kind of sexual impropriety.

No, that’s stupid. What was I thinking? Biden isn’t smart enough to play a long game.

  28. Tonight’s experiment for supper might be interesting. A couple of “boneless pork chops” cut from a pork loin. Salt and pepper, brown them off, set aside. Pioneer gravy mix makes two cups. Ok, pork flavor tonight. Make it in the frying pan, add an extra half cup or so of water after the mix “gravies”. Add the meat, add a couple of hands full of Augason dried potatoes…. about half of what comes in a package of Au Gratin Potatoes mix. Maybe a pinch of red pepper flakes. Maybe.

Set the electric burner to the high side of LO, cover the pan and walk away for about 45 minutes. If the lid starts to tinkle, stir and turn the heat down a bit. SaladMaster cookware circa 1968 is great stuff, seriously.

The goal is to have supper for two, no leftovers and enough gravy for the dog. Precious Puppy Princess Penny Poo deserves it. 🙂

  29. Biden had already been “handsy” several times by that point in his political career. He might have been playing a long game, working to discredit any woman who accused a public figure of any kind of sexual impropriety.

No, that’s stupid. What was I thinking? Biden isn’t smart enough to play a long game.

No, IIRC, Biden was part of Democrat Leadership Council, an effort by the “young guns” of the party to avoid repeating the Mondale and Dukakis mistakes of going too liberal, at least openly. The DLC was analagous to the Conservative movement in the Republican party which, 16 years after Goldwater, resulted in Reagan being inaugurated. DLC begat the Clinton Presidency but lost influence after the 1994 midterm meltdown and Gore’s defeat.

  30. Survivors?

Seems to me someone needs some remedial training.

I was watching Jurassic Park 3 where the raptors wound the old guy to lure in the others. Heh, heh.

  31. I am completely convinced that HP puts the slowest possible disk drives possible into their laptops. Probably 5400 rpm, maybe a 1.6k cache, heads that step slowly between tracks, who knows. Maye even repurposed 1.44 floppy mechanism. Regardless I have yet to encounter a HP laptop with anything other than dismal performance. I guess that is why they are featured on QVC and HSN, dumping low quality to uninformed.

  32. Or put in charge of the school system… depending on your point of view.

I’d like him to be beaten with sticks, but I’m sure there are those who would give him a medal. Obamma got the Nobel for his novel after all.

  33. Interesting. Gonna be some real insights come out of this pandemic, if the high tech world holds together long enough.
