Thur. Nov. 5, 2026 – Still juggling commitments

Chilly. Fall is here. 61F when I went to bed. Of course it’s Houston so it was warm enough for shorts during the day. We’ll be running A/C in the day and heat at night soon. At least it was a clear and mostly beautiful day.

Which I spent indoors. In the morning I did office work and auction stuff, and personal maintenance. Shaved and cut my hair. In the afternoon, I helped at the kid’s old school theater rehearsal. That took me until after dark, at 6pm. I spent some time bringing in some small decorations after that, and putting what I could back in the attic.

Today I’ll do office stuff in the morning and another rehearsal in the afternoon. Maybe I’ll have time to bring in a few more decorations if they are dry.

The next few weeks are going to be strange. There will be a lot of fallout from the elections as people reposition for the changes. I’m astonished how quickly the right has gone down the “we lost because we are teh sux” road. I guess after not being believed about the rampant cheating last time, no one wants to go there again… and there was cheating. LOTS of it. It was just slick and well managed this time. It will come out. Just like last time. Even the dem winners in essentially uncontested places don’t make sense if real people are actually voting.

My response is the same as always. Prepare for bad times, and if they don’t come, celebrate.

Stack. It’s gonna get worse. Lots worse. They’ve already told us as much.

Midterms – fwiw my view from the outside: Trump screwed the pooch by attacking Iran. I dunno who persuaded him that would be a good idea, but the results raised prices, shook the economy, and shoveled even more money into the military-industrial complex. A seriously, seriously stupid decision.

Trump’s tendency to surround himself with “yes men” probably means that no one in his inner circle dared express doubts about the decision.

After my Mom died someone called me to see about collecting on a bill.

Vultures descend. My worst experience was the the GM financing company (I think they have since changed their name to Ally). She had a leased car, which I returned, along with a death certificate. They wanted a payout anyway (I checked, legally I owed them nothing).

I was under a lot of time pressure, having just two weeks in the US to sort out her affairs, empty her apartment, and arrange a funeral. That call may be the only time in my life that I totally lost it, yelling and swearing at the call center worker. Sorry, whoever you were, I’m sure you had no choice about calling, but…find a better job.

The special capability maintained in Tonopah designed for one mission was nearing the end of its usable lifetime and the opportunity to complete the mission presented itself.

    Use it or lose it.

I’m sure the thinking was that taking out the Ayatollah would get a similar response to grabbing Maduro out of Venezuela, but the difference is that everyone in Venezuela wanted the Chavez revolution to end that way except for, maybe, Maduro.

British person tests positive for killer Ebola after contracting it in DR Congo – first UK case in current outbreak to be treated in Britain

    By CIARAN FOREMAN, HEALTH REPORTER

    Published: 11:24 EDT, 4 November 2026 | Updated: 12:06 EDT, 4 November 2026

A British citizen working in the Democratic Republic of Congo has tested positive for Ebola.

The healthcare worker is reportedly being evacuated back to the UK, where they will receive treatment for the deadly virus.

The patient, who is said to be in a stable condition, is expected to land today or tomorrow.

They will then be transferred to an infectious disease unit by a specialist ambulance.

The case marks the first time a Briton has tested positive for the virus in the current outbreak.

Trump screwed the pooch by attacking Iran

Maybe. I think it was more the way the attack was accomplished and the very much unplanned fallout. Iran needed to be dealt with, especially the nuclear faction. Iran would have had no issues with sending a nuclear missile to any country in Europe and then gloat about what they did.

In my opinion, where the mistake was made was not securing the oil routes and facilities before the attack. The idiots in Trump’s cabinet are too stupid to fully understand that resources need to be secured from enemy control before attacking the enemy. The Strait of Hormuz should have been secured for all shipping traffic and any interference by Iran should have been squashed, harshly.

The attack on Iran should have been swift, brutal and thorough. It was not. I saw the same thing in Vietnam when LBJ pussy-footed around and just dabbled in matters in which he was clueless. LBJ wanted to extend the conflict as long as possible to keep the money flowing to his buddies that made weapons and military components for the government. LBJ was a clueless dolt.

Trump’s tendency to surround himself with “yes men”

And that is another problem. Trump had good ideas about things that needed to be done, but he had no one around him to provide an alternate opinion and strategy. No one that was willing to speak up about consequences or an alternative. Anyone on Trump’s staff that had a different opinion than Trump, was quickly fired.

The political world needed Trump. Someone that was willing to say what was on their mind and tell others to pound sand. Especially in the leach infested swamp of D.C. Trump was/is abrasive, abrupt, and generally rude. I see no issues in telling a political opponent to “F off”. Or tell a foreign leader to “get bent”. But it must be done in a way that makes the person feel good. Trump is incapable of doing that.

    Vultures descend.

And not just from businesses. Relatives come out of the woodwork. When my aunt died people showed up at the funeral that I never knew existed. All expecting some sort of handout. I made certain that they got nothing. As things worked out, neither did I. And yeh, I was kind of a vulture too. I wanted compensation for the years of abuse I suffered as a child.

When my mother died she owed Discover somewhere around four to five hundred dollars. I called Discover and said to cancel the card. The agent was adamant that someone had to pay the balance. I said nope, not my problem. The agent persisted. I told the agent I would “lose” the card in the Best Buy parking lot and be done with it. The agent blocked the card but still said they would send the balance to collections. I told the agent, go ahead. I don’t think a dead person would care.

I guess after not being believed about the rampant cheating last time, no one wants to go there again… and there was cheating

I don’t disagree but I don’t think there was enough cheating to sway the election results. Too many moving parts and people involved for someone to not say something or something to slip through the cracks.

    https://www.dailymail.com/news/article-16267021/Kaylub-Giamanco-911-call-Silver-Rail.html

He previously described how he was driving home from lunch when he saw John shooting at a red vehicle in front of him before the teen threw his rifle over a fence and headed toward the school.

The terrifying sight prompted Giamanco to grab his handgun from the center console and load the magazine, and call 911.

As soon as the dispatcher answered, the father-of-two could be heard in newly-released audio from the phone call saying: ‘Oh my God.’

‘Someone’s at the school, at my daughters’ school with a gun,’ he said. ‘I have a gun and I will shoot them right now if I have to.’

The dispatcher then told Giamanco not to do anything and to wait for police.

At that point, Giamanco could be heard talking over the dispatcher as he grew increasingly frustrated.

‘This is my daughters’ school,’ he cried out, before declaring: ‘I’m about to go kill this kid.’

Griffin John II, 16, opened fire at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend, Oregon before Giamanco shot him dead

The father-of-two crawled through an open window to confront the killer

But the dispatcher kept Giamanco talking, asking what race the suspect was and whether he had made his way into the school.

He then confirmed that the shooter had entered the elementary school and that he could hear gunshots.

‘God d*** it, they’re f***ing shooting people,’ the father said.

At that point, the dispatcher tried to get more information from Giamanco, and informed him ‘we have help en route.’

Giamanco, though, had already stopped speaking with the sheriff’s office as he ran toward the building.

Cheating could not generate a million additional Dem votes in Texas.

If Abbott and Paxton had lost narrowly, I would be inclined to believe that some funny business was involved.

Instead, Texas Republicans got a well deserved a** beating.

No, JFKj did not ban the vaccine, but this is the beginning of the Commie-Crat lawfare attack on the Redumblicans. The Mooslim squad has already said ICE agents will be hunted down and imprisoned.

This is the clown show that will keep the Commie-Crats tied up doing the usual nothing in Congress. The 2028 election will show them losing their gains. I can only hope the sheeple are against crimmigration. Ah, the sheeple are not only ignorant, they are stupid.

The outbreak of measles in Florida which the Dems and press tried to blame on DeSantis happened in Weston, a Dem stronghold.

RFKj isnt generating nearly as much Dem angst over HHS as Dr. Oz is in going after the fraud in Medicare and Medicaid.

Of course, it would be much harder to sell impeaching Dr. Oz to voters.

    – this has been true in chicongo for more than 25 years.   My siblings 3 flat condo was in a neighborhood* where all new renovation needed to include one low income unit.   So all the urban yuppies and dinks got a public housing unit in their basement.

Having some low income, low IQ people live in the basement apartment gives you a certain level of ‘can’t ever relax’…

I think the cheating in this election is at a much higher level that filling in paper ballots.    We’ll see.

Most of the votes for Gina and the Freako seem to have come from areas full of newly arrived refugees from blue states.   That they would move here and continue voting for the same sh!t that ruined where they came from was certainly predicted by many, so MAYBE we got better than presidential election turnout from newly arrived people.

    Or maybe we really didn’t.

    One Question

It took days to count votes in 2020. We didnt know election results for 2024 until the next morning. In 2026, how were election results in within 2 hours of the polls closing?

I suspect they moved the fraud up the chain.

Maybe.   Politicians are remarkably flexible when it comes to people with literally billions of dollars to spread around.

If the AI moguls were to offer to build “low income housing” through some NGO’s, say, the politicians might just find it in themselves to permit the AI build out. For the good of the people, you see.

And the moguls & markets might be secretly relieved to have an externally imposed CapEx limit.

Your wife voted Dem party line?

The Republicans in the Legislature led by Dan Patrick engineered the property tax “reforms” in 2023 and 2025 which fed the bond ghouls using the state surplus.

Homeowners in Texas are going to revolt once they see the real property tax bill hit their escrow account, but I think that was inevitable next year regardless of who won.

The tax increase in my ISD was for operational expenses, but a lot of homeowners are still upset over the broken promises around the 2025 bond measure.

  22. Greg Norton says:

Your wife voted Dem party line?

Jinojosa promised to fire the Texas Education Commissooner on Day One of her term and reiterated the promise the other night.

The problem for Jinojosa is that a replacement will have to be confirmed by the Senate, and that body is still under Republican control.

  23. nick flandrey says:

Your wife voted Dem party line?

    – no idea how she voted but all the estrogen in my house was gleeful on election night.    Grrrl power is gonna put them in burkas before they know it.

My wife’s business is tied tightly to construction, in .gov, .edu, and .biz sectors, specifically related to electrical stuff.  And it’s all based on 30 day contracts.  So when there is a big change in the industry, those contracts can just expire and be let with other firms.   And we’ll find out today what the latest change will bring.

    —–

FWIW, I don’t think homeowners in Texas care too much about property tax, especially if the bill goes to the bank.   The type A mommies care A LOT that their property tax gets sucked up the the State thru ‘robin hood’ and that the State just reduces General Fund funding for education when the local property tax revenues increase.

I pay a lot of property tax for schools.   Three properties in three different districts, and I get hit for my business too.  The waste and extravagance are more galling, and stealing it from my district to give to districts that are unable to educate their kids or manage their money just p!sses me off.   We moved to this house in part to be located in THIS district and pay taxes to support THIS district, not some rural ship hole, or urban shiphole like HISD.*

    n

*laughed my @ss off when HISD flipped from a receiver to a donor wrt robin hood.  THEN it was the most unfair program in the history of programs…. you could hear the wailing in the State house.  “Bbubbbttt we need that money…”

  24. nick flandrey says:

Wrt “fraud can’t generate a million votes”, it’s probably easier than getting a MILLION new people up off the couch to actually DO something.   A MILLION.  Half the population of Houston.

    view-source:https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-e&q=what+is+the+yearly+net+growth+in+population+in+houston

A million newcomers would be 5- 10 years of in-migration, of people who don’t really care about Texas politics.

The Greater Houston metropolitan area added an estimated 126,720 people on a net basis between mid-2024 and mid-2025 (latest Census-based estimates reported by the Kinder Institute for Urban Research).
Net In-Migration (People moving in minus moving out):
~92,198 residents (65.9% of total growth), which includes:

Total Net Growth: ~126,720 new residents annually (down from a record high of 190,261–200,000 the previous year). [1, 2]

Net Natural Increase (Births minus Deaths): ~47,653 residents (34.1% of total growth).

    • International Migration: ~52,554 residents (57% of in-migration)
    • Domestic Migration: ~39,644 residents (43% of in-migration)

Current Population: The broader metro area is approaching 8 million residents (around 7.9 million), while the city of Houston proper has an estimated population of about 2.4 million.

Was there a massive ‘get out the vote’ effort directed at dems?   I didn’t see it, but I don’t see ads, and especially not social media campaigns.

No idea.  I’ve run into this for a few months on various sites.  Just figured I’m a beer to the wind with fat fingers or some kind of other ‘tard thing going on.

I have not looked at the page source code.  But, JavaScript?  What can it not do?

I’ve run across a few sites where it seems like there is an overlay, a clear gif or jpeg and you can’t copy  through the overlay.

Sure is annoying.  Highlight.  Crtl-c to copy.  Crtl-v to paste and nothing.  Or do the same with r-clicks on the mouse.

    We will figure it out.

Stock market meltdown as $2.5trillion is wiped out in Wall Street bloodbath after Democrats’ midterms victory rally turns to financial carnage

By BENJAMIN CURRY, US DEPUTY CONSUMER EDITOR

    Updated: 14:27 EDT, 5 November 2026

The stock markets have taken a massive $2.5 trillion hit just one day after the Democrats’ blue tsunami drowned Republicans in the midterm elections.

Stocks related to the artificial intelligence trade have also plunged deep into the red – with tech companies supplying data centers and microchips being the hardest hit.

The nationwide Democratic victories triggered financial carnage for Wall Street on Thursday, as their control of the Senate raises the possibility that governments may pause construction of more data centers across America.

In the aftermath, his phone would go dead at 45% charge.  His battery had memory and 50% is “time to charge”.

I swapped batteries around and nope, it was the battery.

So the new phone starts nagging for a charge at 20%.  I can’t change the battery.  Ok, I could if I knew how to crack the case open.

My LG?  It starts wanting a charge at 15%.  I ignore it and put the phone on charge at 5%.  Along with a couple of 20 minute calls I get almost two weeks with wi-fi and data turned off on a charge.

The LG?  Maybe $20 for a new battery with free shipping from Big River or eBay.

The new phone?  The Moto G?   Ah…. battery goes bad!  Time for an entirely new phone!

Which is like needing to buy a new car when the tires wear out.

“Head Down (The Valens Legacy #4)” by Jan Stryvant
       https://www.amazon.com/Head-Down-Valens-Legacy-4/dp/198131184X?tag=flandrey-20

Book number four of an eighteen book paranormal urban fantasy series. I read the well printed and well bound POD (print on demand) trade paperback self published by the author in 2017 that I bought from Amazon in 2026. I have ordered books #5, #6, and #7 in the series and will read them soon. BTW, the author’s real name is John Van Stry.

Sean was a college student at University of Nevada in Reno, Nevada. He was a junior working on his computer science degree when he was brutally attacked and kidnapped by an unknown group of people just before his 21st birthday. He was rescued by his mother’s neighbor and lifelong friend, Sampson, who turns out to be a were-lion. Sampson had promised Sean’s long dead father to watch over his family, Sampson did so and died for his efforts. But, before dying, Sampson bites Sean and changes him into a were-lion to cure Sean of his injuries.

Sean finds out that his father was an alchemist and was working on a alchemy to free the Lycan slaves from the Magic Users. Which is why the Magic Users had Sean’s father murdered. And now the Magic Users are trying to murder Sean and his friends since they think that Sean will continue his father’s work. And, Sean has found his father’s magic notes and is making a lot of progress. And Sean and his new friends are now attacking the Magic Users covens and freeing their Lycan slaves.

“WARNING: “Head Down” contains explicit sexuality, nudity, violence, bad language, attempted murder, actual murder, military style raids, mass combat, self-defense, pro-active self-defense, destruction of private property, vandalism, breaking and entering, tantric magic, polyamory, mayhem, bad movie quotes, gratuitous sex and violence, an opportunistic goblin, and Sean being completely and totally clueless about why his friend is embarrassed.”

This series is real pulp like old science fiction with lots of action and dialogue. I love it ! Just like the Robert Heinlein books that I love.

Warning: this series might be damaging to your savings account since there are so many books.

Well, it’s 3:30pm.  The dogs have been out.  Penny did what Penny does.  Buddy 3-D printed something far away from the house that smelled bad to me and happily trotted back to the house.

    Time for Supper.

Penny is crashed on her bed.  Buddy is on the floor in this room snoring.

It’s a tough life.. I’m happy they can bear all of the trauma.

I fed the dogs.  Early for them.  Then I figured “call the neighbor” on the new phone.   First call!!!

Nice and warm. go outside and leave the door open and yabber on the phone.  She says the new phone sounds great.

Then Penny is like open the front door.  Not happy.  Buddy is nowhere to be found.

But I found him.  Nose to the ground, ears turned off, wandering around the back yard.

And I don’t know what I did holding the phone between ear and shoulder to make it hang up and do some kind of Gemini stuff.   Yeah, phone, I already know where she lives.   Creepy.  Gotta dig into the settings for sure.

“AT&T has filed to discontinue certain legacy business telephone services across 34 states and Washington, D.C., with regulatory authorization potentially effective November 5, 2026.

If your organization receives AT&T telecommunications invoices, it may be worth checking for these service names:

    • PrimePath Service
    • AT&T Business Network
    • OneNet Option
    • ACC Business

These products are associated with the services identified in AT&T’s discontinuance filing.

Legacy telephone lines can support everything from hotel phone systems and elevators to alarm panels, gates, and other critical building functions. It’s important to understand what those lines do before making changes.

Internet Nerdz offers a complimentary telecommunications invoice review to help property owners and operators identify legacy services, evaluate potential exposure, and uncover unnecessary recurring charges.

If you’d like us to review your AT&T billing, simply reply to this email. We’ll be happy to help.

Looks like AT&T is going to walk away from all of their copper lines to wifi and fiber only.  And this is effective Jan 1, 2027.

I looked at my 401k yesterday.  Shrug.  I’m down about $2500 from the first of the year.  And that is with pulling $1000 a month.

Sure.  The market crashes.  My 401k goes to zero.  But as long as I get the $40 grand I put into it back, I don’t care.

Got like two more years…..  Goals.

BTW, does anyone know how google blocks the copy text function from working on their AI generated result?  And how to fix it so my browser copies everything I’ve highlighted in MY browser, so I can copy paste it in MY browser?

MY browser is Brave, and I have copied AI text several times over the last few days, both on my phone and on my computer. Worked every time.

Just tried Chrome, and it also worked.

I used to use Firefox on Linux, because it was the default browser. It was OK, but I missed Chrome, so I installed Chromium, which is the open source version and the only version in the repo. I immediately noticed a more responsive experience with my 5 megabit DSL connection. I later switched to the Brave browser, and the overall experience was even better.

When I migrated to Windows 10, I immediately installed both Chrome and Brave. I used Chrome for compatibility with difficult sites, and Brave for everything else. Eventually, I discovered how to make Brave work for almost all sites. My internet is now 20 megabit, and Brave on Windows seems to load parts of some sites ahead of clicking on them, so they are instantly available. I have not determined if Chrome also does this, because I seldom use it. Brave also supports manually going back and forward (on most sites) without reloading, something I missed with other browsers.

I couldn’t be happier with Brave. Although a bit quirky, it is one of the few apps that make me feel good. I hear similar sentiment about Vivaldi, and might try it… some day.

Which one?  Musk has about a dozen plant projects going at the moment across several states in the South.  So does AWS and Microsoft.  Texas, Louisiana, South Carolina, Florida, etc.

Florida has a handful of data centers but not many. None are on the GW scale.

Wrt “fraud can’t generate a million votes”, it’s probably easier than getting a MILLION new people up off the couch to actually DO something.   A MILLION.  Half the population of Houston.

Why not go after the Governor’s Mansion and US Senate seat in Florida?

Senator Strawberry Queen at the top of the FL ballot wasn’t Ken Paxton but she annoys enough people that the election was very close.

Byron Donalds will do everything he can make sure that she wins reelection in two years.

Disney may need to be taken to the woodshed again.

The Dems did play the usual dirty tricks out of Dade/Broward/Palm Beach with lightning fast results and projectsion on CNN as soon as the polls closed at 7PM in order to discourage voters in the Panhandle on Central Time, but it wasn’t anything Floridians hadn’t seen before so people continued to show up and vote in Pensacola.

Florida held … and made history with Byron Donalds.

The Dem denied Donalds a debate which was probably a fatal mistake for a white Republican retread who spent most of his career as chief of staff for CW “Bill” Young, a legendary Congressman … who also had a legendary problem with monogamy.

Again, she’s not corrupt but Luna irritates people. What’s always been surprising about her sitting in the seat is that the district leans left.

    – IDK, I used uBlock to turn of javascript and it still messes with copy.    And it’s not just blocking copy, I’ve seen that where they block the right click menu.     This only copies the first block of text in a  multi  block/ line of the result.  I’ll highlight three paragraphs, but only the headline, or the first paragraph gets pasted.

It’s annoying to not have a basic function work the way it always worked since dos.

Rehearsal went well.   Starting to sound good.  Still finding physical issues.   Mic beltpack I’ve tested a dozen times was cutting in and out.   I might have missed it using short phrases or sounds during my mic check.   Had a spare to swap in so I used that.

I used to do that when I was writing web code and wanted to specifically block copy and paste. With the newer webkits I suppose there is a newer, more modern method. I to find it annoying that I cannot copy, and paste. My credit union site will not allow paste when doing bill pay and transfers. I despise the clowns that decided that was OK as copying, and pasting, is much more accurate than typing. Some zit-faced, self satisfying, masturbating, fool made that decision.

The CA DMV web site is very well done, except that it doesn’t allow pasting ACH credentials to pay. I have reviewed this about 20 times, but so far no change. They must think this is a feature.
