Tues. Nov. 24, 2020 – a literal dumpster fire…

By on November 24th, 2020 in decline and fall, march to war, personal, WuFlu

Cool and overcast, some chance of rain.

Like yesterday.  Only cooler.  Maybe.

Hid in the house all day.   Didn’t feel good.  Can’t go back to bed, as then my neck and back get messed up.  Did a tiny bit of work.  Cooked dinner and made bread.

The title is about what I passed on my way home the other day… the loony bin up the road had a fire in their dumpster.  I’ve never seen that before outside of a meme.  Yea me!  Now my 2020 is complete.

Nothing I’ve seen suggests that things are going to be better in 2021, except possibly we’ll have an effective and safe vaccine.  I’ll let the other guys go first on that one… and wait until we’ve seen what happens with pregnant women and kids before making up my mind.

I’m ready to stay home for a while if they start to mandate things like papers to move around.  Shortly after that the roundups starts, so I’ll be getting ready.  History might not repeat but it rhymes, and we’ve heard this tune before.  If old hoof in mouth Joe gets into the Whitehouse, which do you think will come first, the modern yellow star, movement passes, or midnight raids?  There will be calls for gun registration and confiscation too.  The AR pistols will be first.  “Shockwave” style shotguns too.

This time around, the populace is armed, but this time around, the panopticon sees all.

I think I’ll go long on road flares, soap flakes*, and bottles.

Keep stacking.  Figure out how to keep your head down, and what side you’ll take.  You may try to stay neutral, but I don’t think circumstances will let you.

*I’ve heard styrofoam is good too.

I had a pro in to regrout in our kids bathroom recently. The end result made me glad we spent the money rather than me continuing to just patch it as necessary.

Executive orders on DACA, CAFE, and reinstating the Obamacare penalties.

A bailout for the states might happen before the 25th Amendment drama starts, but, unless both GA Senate seats turn, that’s unlikely. At a minimum, rural GA won’t send Raphael Warnock to the Senate, and the Atlanta Dem suburban swing voter females don’t necessarily see Loeffler’s insider trading as a problem because they would have done the exact same thing in her position.

“She worked hard for that money.”

Ossoff may squeak by, but the old school anti-semitism dies hard in GA. Regardless, you can thank the Libertarians for that situation.

Even if he has full-on dementia, Hoof in Mouth’s family won’t go quietly into the night once he’s sworn into office, starting with “Dr.” Jill Biden. 25th Amendment talk will consume the Spring/Summer.

About two weeks ago my wife was able to order clorox wipes for curbside pickup from Target. Then they were gone again.

I’m still using some from March, every time I get back into my truck I clean my hands and forearms with them.

I’ve been able to buy Clorox wipes at Costco on weekdays when they open. They go quickly!

Arbitrage. Plus, some states have anti-gouging laws originally intended for hurricane recovery which make margins tight for a retailer stocking in-demand items where the shortage lasts more than a few weeks.

We haven’t seen Formula 409 in a store since March.

I’ve too bought wipes at Wally World NM but they are often out, especially the last two weeks. We have plenty but as I remind my wife a paper towel and AB spray work as well. A rag and bleech solution can get by but lack convenience.

Subbing again today. Several teachers out so I am having to do double duty, without double pay.

One teacher has two classes, 2nd period and 5th period. So I am the art teacher 1st period, the other teacher the 2nd period, 3rd and 4th period back in art, 5th period back to the class I was supposed to sub. I have no idea what they are doing for art for 5th period. Really don’t care as it is a crappy bunch of students. Same class I had issue with the student that got thrown out.

No classes tomorrow, school closed. Next week is entirely virtual. Friday’s have always been virtual.

Between virtual learning, contact tracing keeping kids in quarantine, teachers in quarantine (some for 21 days), this is going to be the year where the students have learned nothing, done nothing.

It’s only gotten worse and I have trouble fighting it and my kids respect me.

If public schools don’t teach anything and can’t even perform the daycare function, why have them? The question is rhetorical and NOT critical of Mr. Ray. If I conceived a new paradigm, I could generate Gates or Musk wealth. Wish I had an answer.

  14. Greg Norton says:

HOK can only build so many pro and college football stadiums. High schools are the growth market, and they haven’t even begun to tap middle schools.

  15. Ray Thompson says:

Point taken. For many classes I am little more than a baby sitter. It is amazing the number of flat out stupid kids. “My Chromebook battery is dead, I can’t do my assignment.” Then find an outlet and plug in the charger. “I forgot my charger”. Then borrow one or go to the office and get a charger. “Oh yeh, I did not think of that.” Sometimes I think they are just yanking my chain.

Anyway, minimum wage job. Not given the resources that teachers have. No access to Google Classroom. No access to WiFi (I stole the password I am using). No idea what the teachers have assigned. Have no idea where stuff is located in the classroom. Schedules change without informing the subs. I am not putting a lot of effort into what I am doing in the classroom.

I wish I could do more. I don’t want to affect the teacher’s lesson plan. I do know that there are a lot of uneducated students coming out of the system. Mostly just memorized stuff. No ability to think, to research, to evaluate, to estimate, to comprehend. Teach to the standardized test answers, the rest does not matter.

    An entire generation, wasted.

My 60’s experience with public school was wider than most. We moved states every couple years, sometimes mid-year. Military brats were the only kids that moved more often than I.

Only really bit me once. The mid-year move caught me not knowing how to “borrow” for subtraction, but my new classmates had already covered that. My fix for the sample problems involved my “invention” of negative numbers, the existence of which was categorically denied. Discouraging when they were presented a year or two later.

Other rules and styles of admin gave me an unfavorable attitude of the silliness of the systems. I read a lot and widely to cope and to keep my head down.

Look for a special election soon, maybe in the Spring. The local ISD tried one on a Saturday about four years ago, but enough people got wise that the bonds, funding “wish list” projects went nowhere.

The H1B neighborhood got a new high school in the “bare minimum” bond election two years ago, but that will probably end up half utilized like their middle school down the street. Construction hasn’t even broken ground, but “No Trespassing” signs are up.

“This is a really odd time to be having a “housing boom”. We are in the middle of the worst public health crisis in 100 years, endless civil unrest has been ravaging many of our largest cities, and we are experiencing the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression of the 1930s. But even though more than 70 million Americans have filed new claims for unemployment benefits this year, home sales are absolutely rocking. How in the world is this possible?”

“Well, this phenomenon is actually quite easy to explain. As our society comes apart at the seams all around us, vast numbers of Americans are seeking greener pastures. According to ABC News, the chaotic events of 2020 have caused “millions of Americans” to relocate. In New York City alone, more than 300,000 former residents have permanently moved to new addresses.”

—HAH!!! You KNOW you’re busy when you realize the only break you had was when you were sitting on the pot!

WRT school, the teachers put out what is required. The state is so far up the school district’s colon that we had to become a “District of Innovation” to get the freedom to get exempted from some of the state rules. Anyone want to guess what hugely innovative changes we made??

    ..

    ..

    ..

    ..

We just RE-approved the FIVE we’ve made so far– change in start time for the year, change in start time for school days, change in attendance days required IF the student has good grades and passes the test, change in what we are allowed to pay teachers, and I can’t remember the last off the top of my head but it was along the same lines.

    Some real innovation there.

Every year they create all their in-classroom teaching aids from scratch. Every year they redo their curriculum/syllabus from scratch. Every year they spend at least 3 days decorating notice boards in hallways.

They’ve layered SEL on top of everything else, starting last year and without any discussion AT ALL.

Half our schools are failing reading, the other half are maxed on test scores. What’s the difference? genetics and economics. and FWIW, we don’t have ANY schools in the district that are majority white.

The teachers are learning everything at at least 2 removes. They don’t learn to do math, they learn about how to learn a SYSTEM of math. More than half the ‘systems’ are the unvetted result of some PhD thesis and are completely novel. They keep inventing jargon and get farther and farther from common english every year. (I first came across the word “operationalize” in a mission statement for the Atlanta school district. Now I see that abomination in far too many places.)

I have been moving stuff around and half@ssing helping my wife get ready to install a range hood. She got a bug to repaint the kitchen ceiling, realized that we were going to need to patch a downlight hole and cut holes for the new range hood. I am trying to imagine the USA with an order of magnitude less economy. $20 trillion down to $2 trillion. All self induced.

I cannot imagine that level of change. It is too much change and heartbreak.

Just imagine, a carbon tax of $10/gallon on gasoline, diesel, and natural gas. It starts at a dollar per gallon and doubles every year. I fully expect Biden to mandate this as an executive order as part of the Clean Air Act, a tax. There is precedent for this in the SCOTUS decision about Obamacare.

Range hood? I want to replace mine. It’s a cheapo thing, they still make them.

I want to vent through the wall, like in an RV. Up through the cupboard is off of the table. I don’t have a lot of cabinet space in this crappy kitchen and losing most of what is above the range hood is not acceptable.

It seems I should be able to find a 30″ wide through the wall with 3 or 4 inch by 7 or 9 inch square duct. The square duct, not a round pipe.

No luck on Lowes or Home Depot. Or maybe I’m not searching correctly.

All before she can paint the ceiling which was the driver. Because reasons. Painting ceilings is so far down my list you can’t see it from here.

    n

(and you see what I mean about my projects being fractal? to paint the ceiling the hood needs to be installed. The hood needs a vent to the outside – had the roofing guy do that when he did the roof. Because the vent hood is in the middle of a joist it all becomes more complicated. And a can light needs to come out or it will be only a few inches from the hood. Which means drywall repair. Then after all that’s done, I get to put the insulation down in the attic.)

Our rental in Vantucky vented the range hood out cleverly hidden vents where the cabinets above met the ceiling. I have no idea if that was legal/code and whether the landlords did it after the fact.

The house was divorce settlement money from the first marriage for the female half of the landlord couple. Everything was done *her* way or the highway, including paint schemes which were way too dark for the already gloomy winters and half-a**ed closet organizer installations which I rebuilt properly on the sly with drywall anchors.

“Noting that the Starlink dish uses about 100 watts of power, one user asked if that will be reduced to allow more usage scenarios that require portable power supplies, such as on a sailboat. Power reduction is “a key item we are focusing on for the future,” the Starlink team said.”

That is a lot of power.

“The Starlink team also answered a question about how the dish locates satellites. The dish “is able to electronically scan the sky in a matter of milliseconds and lock into the satellite overhead, even though it’s traveling 17,500 mph overhead,” DishyMcFlatface answered. “When it detects a satellite, the Starlink hones in on its position and makes a request to join the Internet. After that, the dish is able to download a schedule of which satellites to talk to next and with that it can point right at the satellites when the time comes.””

That is a lot of computing for a satellite experience that lasts a very short time, maybe a minute ???

I don’t know, not real interested in having a female nurse practitioner OR a male doctor prodding around

Modesty goes the way of the Dodo when dealing with kidney stones. Removal, in my case, was through the penis. Hard telling how many were involved or the gender. After recovery I was required to discharge 100 ml of very bloody urine. Nurse came in to watch more than once.

A week later when the stent was removed, it was removed the same way. Anesthesia is inserted in the urethra, done by a young female nurse. I just looked away. At least she didn’t laugh.

Try heart surgery when they stick four, yes FOUR, catheters up the veins in your groin. I wake up in recovery and a nurse has chunks of my groin in her fists. “Ma’am, that hurts.” “Yes, I am sure it does but I need to stop the bleeding.”. “How much longer ?” “I have been holding the incisions closed for 20 minutes now.”. “Oh.” I passed out again, when I came to she was gone and had duct taped my groin together. I was more concerned then that I was coughing up blood from my severely ripped uvula.

My Dad just got his five year checkup for bladder cancer. They examine and treat the bladder through the penis. I went in one time and he had two half inch tubes running into his penis which they were running a solution through. For two days ! And his oncologist is a lady doctor. But, he is still alive and still has his bladder, the one inch tumor is long gone.

Years ago an anecdote from Jerry Pounelle made me start digging into global warming. The deeper I got, the more horrified I became at the wholesale abuse of science.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the data, but the fact is that there isn’t anything too complicated about the mathematics, just big datasets and lots of acronyms.

    Today at WUWT:
The U.S. National Temperature Index, is it based on data? Or corrections?
    Andy May / 4 hours ago November 24, 2020

    https://wattsupwiththat.com/2020/11/24/the-u-s-national-temperature-index-is-it-based-on-data-or-corrections/

The entire thing is well-worth reading, but the real takeaway is Figure 4 and the comment: “Figure 4 shows the actual measurements from the stations, these are not anomalies and the data are not gridded. The raw data shows CONUS is cooling by 0.3°C per century, while the corrected data shows CONUS is warming by 0.3°C degrees per century. These lines, like all the fitted lines in this post, are Excel least squares trend lines. The lines are merely to identify the most likely linear trend in the data, thus the R2 is irrelevant, we are not trying to demonstrate linearity.”

The similarities between this bit of chicanery and the voting manipulation in the current election are many.

You don’t need any science or mathematics to know that they’re lying. All you need to know is people. Watch what the warmenists do compared to what they say. Compare the prescriptions for global warming to the prescriptions for global cooling, overpopulation, ozone holes, peak oil, peak food, fishery collapse, and even the growth of the stinkin’ Sahara Desert.

You know, if you have an AR or five, and a few dozen high capacity mags, at $200 each you are talking about some serious money. And those mags do not have serial numbers on them.

And if you add in pistol mags over 10 rounds and Ruger 10-22 mags, I have a LOT of those.

Most here know this is a long march through our institutions and culture.

The first step in liquidating a people is to erase its memory. Destroy its books, its culture, its history. Then have somebody write new books, manufacture a new culture, invent a new history. Before long that nation will begin to forget what it is and what it was… The struggle of man against power is the struggle of memory against forgetting.

Of course I was not awake for my kidney stone procedure so don’t know what they used. I know that it really hurt to urinate for several days. Then I had the stent removed. A 1/2”, maybe a little large tube. Yikes. No wonder anesthesia was squirted inside, which in itself was a weird experience. Who knew the male parts could stretch that much? Tube contained a light, camera and a gripping device.

Basically, when medical procedures are involved give up on modesty. Unless it’s your dentist.

    $8k-13k

I see a big difference in price on graded cards vs ungraded too. IDK what it costs to get them graded but it seems to make a difference. I wonder what the potential value has to be to make it worthwhile?

That would be rifles against the tank crews and their supporting infantry, if any, a whole ‘nother proposition entirely.

They gotta dismount sometime if only because the honey bucket is overflowing, and you’d be amazed how effectively a rock jammed between two road wheels can immobilize a tank. Plus, even home-brew napalm liberally applied can do quite a bit of damage to a modern tank.

Hopefully we’ll never need to put these tactics to the test.
