Sat. Nov. 7, 2020 – non-prepping hobby meets today, but…

By on November 7th, 2020 in decline and fall, march to war, politics, WuFlu

Cool and clear, at least for another day or two.

It did get into the 80s in the sun yesterday, and the air is still saturated, but it’s very pleasant compared to a month ago.

I spent the afternoon dropping off a couple more things for the local auction.  I stopped by my industrial auctioneer, and he doesn’t want any more stuff until next year.  Dang.   My local guy isn’t interested in taking much more of my stuff this year either.  I’m hosed.  I haven’t even gotten spam from my craigslist listings.  I am going to have to get  a FB Marketplace account.  I’ll have to set up another lappy to do it, as I won’t have that spyware on my main or secondary machine.  I’ve got some researching to do.  No way I can reach my goals without moving stuff a pallet at a time.

My non-prepping hobby club meets today, but I still don’t know if I’ll attend.  Bigger venue, temps taken, and masks enforced, but I’m coughing again, and daughter’s classmate tested positive, and all that.  Seems unwise to be in a room full of guys older than me.  Maybe I’ll just go hang out in the parking lot.  It’s double suck because it’s the day we have our own little swapmeet just for members, and there is probably stuff I could sell if I’d known with more than 3 or 4 days notice.

I’ve also got to pick up some domestic bliss stuff in Conroe, which is an hour and a half round trip if there is traffic.

I’m sure there is a lot of stuff for me to do here as well 😉  like drain the pool, cut the grass, fix the broken stuff, move/organize/put away….

I’m going to take daughter’s advice and see if I sleep through my alarm or not.  In any case I expect to be away from the computer for a while.

Election Flockery continues apace.  I had to read the wiki to be sure of something.  When I mentioned it, my wife reacted as if the Rs forced the 2000 Florida recount to steal the election, so it’s all just karmic balance… Which of course wasn’t what I remembered.   I was right, the Ds filed for the recount, which the Rs tried to kill several times.  Also the allegation was incompetence and racism, not MASSIVE and ORGANIZED fraud.  Just ‘cuz the Rs ended up winners, they get blamed for it.  Wasn’t the case at all.  In the end it came down to <1000 votes, not 90,000.

Pray for an aggressive and righteous response to the allegations of fraud by the appropriate agencies, or we’ll be praying for the souls of our dead.

You can’t have too much, or stashed in too many places.  Start thinking about dispersal and cover, hiding places and friends in useful places.  Just in case they come for you or your stuff.  It’s happened before, it will happen again.  And keep stacking, resources, skills, knowledge, and contacts.

Even as isolated and echo-chambered as I am, I’ve heard the same. Similar thing with the guy who blamed all of Obamacare’s problems on Republicans because Republicans rammed the bill through Congress over Democrat opposition. -shrug- An awful lot of people are awful stooopid.

visit the elders of the Cuban expatriate population in South Florida and ask if they had similar plans after Fidel showed his true colors and whether those worked out.

Let me go all Godwin and mention the jews in the Warsaw ghetto in the same context.

Whites in South Africa after the Truth and Reconciliation Commission smoothed over all hard feelings.

For all of those making plans to live with a theft of the presidency by Democrats, I would urge you to visit the elders of the Cuban expatriate population in South Florida and ask if they had similar plans after Fidel showed his true colors and whether those worked out.

I grew up in Florida and know a lot of first and second generation exiles, including my doctor, who went to school with Fidel. Based on the stories I heard, even the list of possible puppet masters behind Biden couldn’t compare to the combination of IQ points and brutality that pulled off the revolution in Cuba. Plus, the living conditions for the average person were a *lot* different, and the ruling class had inbreeding issues.

(A dark secret not known much out of South Florida and the University of Miami, which conducts studies of the exile population and the unique opportunity they present to study the genetic fallout across multiple generations.)

Trump should fight for every last vote, but a change in the White House with control of both houses of Congress so divided means not much will get done before focus shifts to 2022 a year from now.

Take your wife to Broward for people watching when you visit Florida for Thanksgiving if she doesn’t understand how the 2000 mess happened — or any national news out of the county over the last 20 years for that matter. As I’ve noted before, the supermarket in Emerald Hills in Hollywood, FL is best, but the Ikea or Sawgrass Mills mall at the edge of the Everglades are good too.

I watched most of the Circuit Court hearing from Tallahassee in 2000. The Gore legal team and experts petitioning for the recount were horribly conceited, visibly annoying the judge, Saunders Sauls, *a lifelong Democrat*. The Bush team argued well and, in particular, set a logic trap for the math “expert” which the Dems, not paying attention or understanding Florida history, fell right into, costing them the argument and the case.

The Dems petitioned the court but went in unprepared. Ultimately, several years later, the Miami Herald went over the ballots, conducting their own recount, and concluded that Bush would have still prevailed by a wider margin than final.

So much revisionist history about that situation sloshes around the Internet. The big howler to any native or near native is the Katherine Harris-Jeb! Bush relationship. Yes, Jeb! had (has?) a girlfriend, but it was an ex Playboy Bunny he ran around with in Tallahassee, not Katherine Harris, uptight, old Florida money whose grandfather’s name is on the UF Stadium.

A bit mundane given the gravity of events at the moment, but… re my new dishwasher:
I’ve discovered it cleans much better when I run it on the short “One Hour Cycle”! On that cycle, I reduce to only a teaspoon of cascade, and add my usual 1-2 tablespoons citric acid (we have very high calcium content in our water). I’m not sure why it cleans so much better, but it does, everything all shiny and no particles. Maybe it uses more water than the long cycles do?

The one hour cycle in a lot of machines uses higher temperatures and more water. It is the old school dishwasher cycle. I’m actually surprised they give you the option. One upside of the Orange Man that people don’t think about is that he reversed Energy Department mandates, including tighter appliance standards, which were impossible to meet without pixie dust and unicorn belches incorporated into the manufacturing processes.

Dishwashers are just now catching up from the elimination of TSP in the machine detergents, mandated by WA State about 10 years ago but subsequently inflicted upon the rest of the country by Costco strong arming the soap makers.

When we first moved to WA State in 2010, shortly after the ban went into effect, I was shocked at how poorly the dishwasher ran in our rental. Fortunately, all the major appliances dated back to the 2007 counterfeit power capacitor scandal and failed within a year, forcing the landlords to replace the dishwasher along with the range, microwave, and ice maker in the refrigerator. The new dishwasher, a 2010 model, still wasn’t great.

We hand washed a lot of dishes across two rentals, WA State and Texas, until we got to our current, permanent house, with a dishwasher made in … 2014 (?). The wife of the previous owning couple renovated the kitchen right before the husband decided that he wanted to move. I’m OK with the machine, but I won’t put any money into it when it breaks.

Maybe I should buy my dishwasher now … along with a Dodge Hellcat. 🙂

That’s interesting! There is nothing in the literature to suggest that, so maybe Frigidaire was sneaking it along. I am a lot happier now. I still wish it had the silverware on the door, but that option was not worth hundred$$$ extra. Having saved my old lower rack and using it instead of the one that came with the new dishwasher (the old rack allows my large platters and such to fit, as well as accommodating more dishes), and now with this discovery, it is almost as good as having my wonderful old dishwasher ‘still’. 🙂

I don’t really have any interest in owning a Hellcat, but the CAFE standards mean that choice will go away in less than five years.

I got dating airheads out of my system early. I could have easily ended up married to the daughter of one of Tampa’s most prominent oral surgeons, complete with the 500 person wedding in the area’s original big Catholic church, but sanity prevailed.

When the last job went on a fishing expedition for something to fire me over that would result in denial of unemployment, my wife said that she would have hired the lawyer to sue them if one of my female co-workers had sold out and sworn to a #MeToo scenario.

To be fair, I still don’t know what was filed with the State of Texas in terms of fact finding, hence one reason for the appeal. Plus, they’ll have to hire a lawyer and tie up management time, all over what will end up being $1500 in UI payout.

Update (1140ET): With Fox News projecting that Biden has won both PA and Nevada, it looks extremely likely that Joe Biden will soon be officially declared the 46th president of the US.

—- um NO, NO ONE is OFFICIALLY the new Prez until the EC votes and it’s all ratified.———-

According to CNN, Joe Biden spent the morning with his family at his home in Delaware, and is planning to address the nation tonight, with the theme being that he will govern for everybody, not just his voters.

Trump’s Campaign has just released a statement claiming that the voters will be the ones who decide who wins the race, not the media.

    * * *

Update (1130ET): With Pennsylvania reporting practically all of its ballots, it looks like Joe Biden has managed to edge out the president and clinch the Keystone State, with CNN, the AP, NBC News and a host of other outlets calling the election for Biden.

I’d like to the stories about the “glitch” again, but y’all know where they are. 6000 votes shaved in every county of 30 states would have done it…

IIRC, that story had more to it than brutal Mexicans murdering innocent Americans.

Mormons have been around that part of Mexico for a long time. The issue with George Romney running for President in the 60s was whether he was a “natural born citizen”, having been born in the Mormon colony south of the border.

Angelina Ballerina couldn’t learn to code if his life depended on it.

I’ve stated my rule of thumb before that ~ 10% of the population can learn to write code at a high level. I would put the percentage as higher that are unable to make the conceptual leap to understand fundamental concepts as basic as integers vs. floats, easily has high as 30%.

I would put Mayor Ballerina in the latter category. That’s not to say that segment can’t achive — Twinkle Toes is proof — but not at coding. There is much valuable work to be done outside of building another social media outlet.

JC Penny disappearing would be bad. Sears is already gone. When Brown Truck Store becomes economically unviable in the upcoming era of high transportation costs post elimination of fossil fuels, a century of retail is going to have to be relearned very quickly. Advertising too.

JC Penny has valuable brands, and their Arizona Jeans label nearly put Levis out of business once upon a time before Penny’s Ron Johnson CEO experiment. Simon Group recognizes this, but the question is whether they can put the deal together and manage the stores once the current execs get booted with their golden parachutes.

1%. Not 10%. It takes a special coder to be able to deliver code. Most wannabe developers cannot recognize when the code is “good enough” to deliver.

Rest assured, that won’t happen again. And down ballot won’t be an issue in Georgia next month in the runoffs.

Still, I think the Republic dodged a bullet.

    Really? I never noticed that.

but It’s not over until Trump says it’s over, or the EC votes.

The current obsession with “RIGHT NOW DAMMIT” isn’t enshrined in law.

They — the enemy, the unAmericans — know that declaring that the senile pedo won has no legal meaning. They’re shaping the narrative and attempting to shape the popular consensus. If people hear “Joe won” enough times, then when the claims go to the Supreme Court some people will be open to claims that it’s politicking by judges, that Trump was selected not elected, and so on. And remember, almost half of the actual vote went to the senile pedo, meaning that almost half of the voters are unAmerican or stupid or corrupt. No matter which of these they are, they will form an attentive audience for Dem-machine claims of election theft.

10% have the ability, but a much smaller percentage have the interest or the desire for a career with such a short half life. Someone capable of understanding a concept such as a priority queue and how it leads to Google Maps is capable of doing many other things with their time to earn a living.

Yes, they should. Believe it or not, a hand count is fast and efficient. I’ve poll watched before, and it is a zippy process with results everyone can agree on. A set number of ballots in each batch. One caller, three talliers, as many observers as wished standing immediately behind the counter to observe each ballot, or behind the talliers, and when the batch is finished, the talliers add up and if all three are in agreement, there’s a number for the master sheet. Ballots that raise questions are set aside to be decided later, so as not to interfere with the primary count.

    Ok. Apologies.

The high degree of interactivity expected from web pages today requires a lot of layers of supporting frameworks to make it all work in HTML. Java, ActiveX, and Flash attempted to resolve the issue within the sandbox of the browser but ended up as security holes with IE running at administrator level.

Too many, if not ALL of the people saying “learn to code” think that everyone else’s job is easier than what they do. Having done a whole crap ton of ‘menial’ or ‘simple’ jobs in my life, I can tell you that there is a whole lot of nuance and technique in something as “straightforward” as keeping floors clean. Even simple mopping by hand takes training if you want it to actually clean the floor and not just move dirt around, and it has to be conscientiously done too.

Learn to code. Learn to tend bar. Far more jobs available and you can live and work almost anywhere. If you’re good at it, it pays very well too.

All of these States need to be forced to do a hand count.

How is that possible with electronic voting machines? Isn’t the process already corrupt? Sure, the voter can possibly verify what is on the paper, but in one test I read, only 7% did.

Except for a couple of machine states (ugh!) I have always voted by paper ballot. However, history shows that there are still plenty of ways to cheat those.

What we need is true election reform, but that will never happen: both sides (all sides?) like things the way they are. Bread and circuses.

  58. Nick Flandrey says:

By definition, all the late, mail in, and invented ballots are paper. At a minimum those should be recounted in any state where there were delays, and there is even the slightest hint of impropriety. If they don’t, they are acknowledging that they don’t care about honest elections.

The thief never wants to empty his pockets.

There should also be audits of the electronic results. It shouldn’t be hard to spot fraud, real numbers look different from invented numbers. Auditors use that fact all the time.

Lots of people out there looking and not liking what they see. Will Trump be able to do anything about it? Remember these cheaters are the party in power for decades in those cities and Trump’s political enemies. They won’t do anything without being forced.

I’d start sweating anyone counting late ballots. Where did they come from? Who delivered them? Who signed for it when they left their origin and arrived here? What was the total count at each of those steps? They may not know the distribution of the votes but they should know the total number of ballots in the boxes and if they don’t, that’s an issue too.

I want to meet the people responsible for the Flex Seal boat. Just patching the hole in my kids’ bathtub where the soap dish fell out of the wall, I ended up with more of that gunk on me than in the empty space on the wall.

Fox kept the various TV channels and station holdings but sold off the studio and catalog to Disney.

IIRC, some of the sports channels went to The Mouse, but Disney is having second thoughts and contemplating a fire sale back to the Murdochs the last I read. Disney needs every dime for the NFL rights, with dreams of putting Monday Night Football back on ABC.

We watch the local Fox stations’ news at 10 PM, but that’s because in Tampa, Portland, and, now, Austin, the weather departments are serious.

The Senate will be close but controlled by at least one seat. If you look at the special election in GA, the Republicans beat the most prominent Democrat, but without one candidate getting 51%.

Without the Libertarian in the other race, the runoff would not have been necessary.

The problem is with electronic tabulating machines, not electronic voting machines. They feed paper ballots into the electronic tabulating machines. The tabulations are incorrect according to many users.

Sounds like the popo is all set to wrap up a bunch of street racers. The drivers are meeting up in a Home Depot parking lot. There is a guy in the back of a truck with a “Midnight Riders” flag. There are about 100 cars there so far. Helo in the air getting video of the whole thing. Helo is blacked out, at 1600 ft and the cops just reported that they can hear the helo. helo is backing off.

they are using two Gulf Coast interop channels, one for traffic, doing stops on cars headed toward the event, sounds like, and one that invited the helo to stay on their channel because “we’ll have a lot more intel’ on the channel.

I’ve got flightradar up in a tab, and the sky over houston is QUIET tonight. one sheriffs helo, that I don’t think is involved, and a couple of commercial jets on the ground at airports.

    n

  77. Nick Flandrey says:

ah, the sheriff’s helo is the eye in the sky. The map clearly shows them orbiting a Home Depot. The only other helo in the sky is HPD’s which launched a couple of minutes ago, and flew from the airport north to what is essentially directly over my secondary location (not a nice ‘hood) and is now moving over I 10.

    cool.

    n

  78. Nick Flandrey says:

And an undercover has just reported that the crowd is restless, knows there are ‘strangers’ in the group, and are getting angry that “they’ll ruin it for everyone.”

so the popo are getting noticed.

sheriff’s helo went to fill up, and Lifeflight launched and is headed in a straight line for something northwest , just set down in Sam Houston Racetrack…

HPD’s helo is now orbiting on the west side, they must have been following someone. Oddly the area where they are now had an apache with the longbow sensors flying over it when I went by two days ago. Don’t usually see .mil choppers flying solo around here so I caught my eye. It was low and slow too.

    n

another lifeflight just launched from the med center toward SE houston.

  79. Nick Flandrey says:

Sheriff’s helo (able 2) is back up and the track looked like it conflicted with the lifeflight. I’m sure they were properly separated….

    n

racers are using waze to post cops when they see them.

  80. Nick Flandrey says:

Ah lifeflight 2 was a transfer. They’ve landed at a hospital. Able 2 is headed back to the home depot, and HPD is still orbiting whoever they chased from my secondary location to the west side…

and a random patrol cop just wandered into the parking lot, lights and sirens, causing the street racers to bail… stakeout and taskforce is getting someone to warn him off and send him away…

    n

  81. Nick Flandrey says:

The streetracers have regrouped at their next location, determined in advance, and the cops are all over it. They’re blocking exits and getting ready to “spook” them and start making arrests on the ones they can.

    Pretty big op.

    n

  82. Nick Flandrey says:

Fleeing racers have driven thru a fence and are leaving thru an apartment complex. one of the arrested was carrying illegally.

Speaking of foxes, given that the readership here tends small c conservative, does anyone still watch Fox News regularly, or even more than occasionally?

Don’t think I’ve ever watched one minute of Fox or CNN on the TV.

Used to watch the network and local news regularly until just a month or so ago when I could no longer kid myself about how much of a propaganda machine the MSM media is and how the local TV news merely parrot the MSM party line. I’d been a regular viewer for almost sixty years.

Gave up cable TV at the beginning of the summer primarily because with the demise of LIVE PD there was nothing on it that I cared to watch.

For news and opinion I read the WSJ; the lefty bias of its young news staff sometimes seeps into its reportage, but the conservative bent of its older opinion writers jibes quite nicely with mine.

  84. Nick Flandrey says:

The racers have moved to their second spot and PD rounded up some more. Now they’re headed to their next spot and the PD has a helo in the air and is already spotting them. No license plate from 2000 ft though.

Ground units are moving in. LONG night for a big task force.

Undercovers on the ground, social media surveillance, air cover, and dozens of marked and unmarked units. Big money being spent.

    n

  85. Nick Flandrey says:

And a marked unit screwed it up. Came into the lot and scared them all away. So everyone is moving to the next location….
