Sat. June 30, 2018 – late, and headache-y

90F at 9am. Oh yes, it’s hot.

Despite my best efforts yesterday, I got dehydrated and I’m feeling hung over today. I’m going to start drinking water and electrolytes this morning.

Time to feed the kids,

Fri. June 29, 2018 – another week gone….

84F at 815. Sunny, hot, and humid. So of course I’ll be on ladders and in attics today.

Did all y’all get any preppin’ done?

Turns out I did buy an 80w solar panel. It came with a charge controller and a sine wave inverter, and a metal battery box. It is exactly what you might see by the side of the highway powering a camera or tag reader. Haven’t tested it yet, but it looks good.

Lost some more food to the rats (indirectly.) I’ve got all of my long term storage out of the garage, and into the black bins with yellow lids that they sell at the home depot/costco stores. They are capacious and sturdy. They are NOT water and air tight. For some reason I’m gettting water inside some of the bins, (they are under a tarp) which I think might just be condensation, but in any case, it ruins the paper contents. So I’ve lost more food to moisture. I’ll lose some to heat too, I’m sure. Cool dry place does not describe my driveway.

The world turns, and there are more reasons every day to prep.

Thur. June 28, 2018 – what again??

79F at 720 says “yes again, and harder too” for Houston.

I didn’t link directly to this story when it was reported, because I was waiting for more info, like why he was targeted at 330am. But now I’ll link to Peter and thru him to Ferfal….

https://bayourenaissanceman.blogspot.com/2018/06/a-nightmare-for-parents-and-sobering.html

““This is the worst kind of crime against a family,” Sheriff Troy Nehls said. “Three crooks forcing their way into a home in the middle of the night is appalling. To make matters worse, they accosted a 7-year-old child. They’re cowards, to say the least.”

Nehls said the father kept telling the intruders there was no money and to take jewelry or a car, but the masked men weren’t satisfied.”

Like peter and ferfal, I think we’ll see much more of this, as we have imported people from places where it is much more common, and despite the Dow doing well, the economy in general is still tough for most people.

So, what can you do?

Don’t flaunt wealth. Keep in mind that someone else considers wealth might be much less than what you do.

Be aware of your surroundings. LOOK for cars following you, LOOK for cars parked in your area with people in them. This guy was targeted. Someone found out where he lived. My neighbor that was at the Y while her home was burgled believes targeting is the only thing that makes sense. The staff at your local haunt may be trustworthy, or not. They may have a brother with a gang problem, or who is a junkie.

Vary your routine.

Harden you home. Lock the dang doors. Install simple upgrades to strengthen entrances. Install more complex upgrades if appropriate. [added some links below] LOOK at your home when you return from a trip– is anything out of place?

Harden your heart. Make the decision about your response ahead of time. It’s not just you or your money at risk. The cop calls the attackers “cowards” which is the same knee-jerk name calling as with terrorists. They are not cowards. They are a lot of things, but afraid isn’t one. Trusting in the goodwill of someone who has ALREADY threatened to hurt or kill you is a REALLY bad idea.

Arm yourself and become at minimum familiar with the use of the weapon. Better to get actual training in its use. Keep it close to hand. Your physical security measures are meant to delay attackers while you arm yourself.

Consider having “give up” money or jewelry. I have an envelop of cash in my desk drawer. It looks like more than it is, and is my “here, get out, it’s all I have” wad. Same for my money clip when I’m out of the house. I’m not suggesting “do whatever they say and you’ll be fine” but I AM suggesting that a level of compliance gains you time, space, and helps gauge their intent. It can also provide the distraction you need to defend yourself.

Beyond all this though, you need the mindset that this stuff happens. Right here in your town, in your home, in your area.

Like terror attacks, mass shootings, or natural disasters, IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU. Take steps.

Wed. June 27, 2018 – more errands, more driving around

78F at 7AM spells ‘big hot sweaty day’ in Houston.

More driving and more stuff to do today.

Headlines are more of the same too. The local polarization continues, with the left threatening political staffers and appointees, for doing their jobs. Note that a version of this has been advocated by certain elements of the right, for once the war goes live. Not sure you can complain that the left is doing what your side has advocated…

World stage is getting more polarized too.

I’ve been focused on other things than prepping (yep, really) and am beginning to feel nervous. I’ve eaten down some of my stocks, and not been out to the range, or stacking much of the 3 “b’s” lately.

Gotta fix that.

Mon. June 25, 2018 – another day, another dollar

Basically 80 at 8. Gonna be hot!

Interesting what is finally getting out into the larger zeitgeist.

Civil war 2.0
Coming financial collapse
Illegal immigrants are illegal

Couple that with the return of nationalism, the EU fracturing, PC pushback, etc.

Like I’ve said before, big changes coming.

Sun. June 24, 2018 – open

Almost 90F at 9am, so another typical summer day….

Let myself dehydrate, I’m feeling it today. And I’m about to spend another day doing it.

Better get to work drinking water.

Fri. June 22, 2018 – for realz this time…

Basically 80 at 8… which suggests another hot, sticky Houston day.

Got a TON of stuff going on today.

Quick scan of headlines shows the world continuing to flex and twist, with the Eurozone in trouble, third world sh!tholes getting sh!ttier, and our own decline accelerating.

Cops are busy shooting people again.

On the plus side, some old crimes are being solved, and old mysteries coming to light.

Ebola seems to have faded, and that is truly good news.

Preps, skills, people. Get busy! Your whole life will be better if you do it right.

Thur. June 21, 2018 – Thursday! NOT Friday!

77F with 83%RH, water on everything, and it’s guaranteed to get hotter. SNAFU here in the swamp.

Woke up planning how to get thru the day, which would have been ok, but the day I was planning for is tomorrow. The week is short enough without my sub-conscious stealing days from me!

More swim, more, more…

Might have bought a commercial 80w solar panel. Think I did. We’ll see. If so, it was my prep for the day.
