15:43 – The poisoned milk and cookies were untouched, as I expected. We spent yesterday evening eating and watching Christmas movies and today eating and opening presents. Tonight, more eating.

With all that eating, one might almost suspect you were biological organisms rather than science kit assembly robots. This makes Cthulhu happy. More souls to eat.

    Merry Cthulumas!

    http://arstechnica.com/business/2016/12/federal-report-ai-could-threaten-up-to-47-percent-of-jobs-in-two-decades/

“This week, scientists and economic advisers to President Obama released a report on artificial intelligence, including the effects of automation on the US job market and economy. While the report notes the significant potential for wealth gains from increased productivity due to AI, it also warns of threats to existing jobs and an exacerbation of the wage inequality between lower-skilled, less-educated workers and those with higher skills.”

Nice Christmas message. It is now difficult for the below 100 IQ crowd to find a job. That will get worse over time.

True dat. I wonder when the slaughtering houses will be automated ? That is a quarter million jobs right there in the USA (SWAG). That will leave cleaning services and lawn mowing for the majority of the entry level jobs as I figure that McDonalds will be automated in 12 to 24 months.

Tough days are coming. Tough days.

I think I am safe as I have retired. Applied online for SS. Seemed to be easy. Of course it will take them several months to approve. I have an appointment on Jan 17 at the local office to confirm it all. Should not have to spend much time sitting in the lobby with the leaches that infest the place.

And let’s also make sure they don’t speak English and have about as much motivation for, and probably success at, assimilating into North Murkan culture and legal/social mores and traditions as I would have assimilating into theirs.

Running into more and more problems? Hey, do the usual and double down on it. Rinse and repeat until it does work.

Another Merry Christmas to all; ours went pretty well last night and this morning and then the usual suspect did her best to rain on the parade this afternoon and evening. Right on schedule.

Mrs. OFD is off to the Moh-ree-all airport tomorrow to spend the week in Kalifornia with kids and grandkids, as the dad there has the week off. Princess is driving her up in my car and then has a couple of performances this week up there and needs it to transport her harp. I’ll be spending the week messing with her car and the DMV and getting it registered in VT and putting snow tires on it and driving it up there Saturday AM to switch vehicles and get my car and Mrs. OFD back again. And I’ll have zero thanks for it all and probably more grief and hassle.

It was instructive and peaceful spending time with the 88-year-old MIL, actually, and Mrs. OFD was pretty much OK; I had another nightmare around 03:00, I guess, and woke up screaming. So at least she was there when that happened and apparently either no one else heard me or they pretended not to, it was just one scream anyway. A real nasty one this time; they are far less frequent now than say, seven or eight years ago.

Other than that, everything went pretty well; I made my own version of cioppino with cod, flounder and crab, and Princess made a cauliflower gratin, scones, biscuits, and an Irish “sticky pudding” dessert. That was last night and today I just made a giant mushroom and onion omelet and we had more biscuits and leftovers. Very low-key and quiet for the most part and listening to WCRB’s classical/pops programs from Symphony Hall in Boston throughout.

“What do we want? Fifteen! When do we want it? Now!”

It’s hard to believe that even low-end service workers on the left hand side of the bell curve would be stupid enough to price themselves out of the job market, but evidence speaks for itself.

    and woke up screaming

Stress related? It’s hard to tell, but I think mine get worse with increased family aggravation and other issues.

The holidays are a very stressful time. ESPECIALLY with family dynamics.

It’s one of the reasons my wife and I live 2000 miles from family. I don’t have to participate in all the family BS, legacy stuff. On one particular day when I was much younger and bound up in all that, my uncle asked me if I’d been back in jail lately, so I replied by asking him if he’d had any heart attacks this month. Never asked me that question again. He died alone, and none of his 8 kids came to his funeral. Says something right there.

Families are fucked up. Small towns are in the same way. Too many people who remember when you pooped your diaper, and can’t think of you as a person.

    Stressful. Yep.

Bingo. Everybody and everything was OK until somebody decided to take over the residence, per SOP, and bust all our ballz, so to speak, in various ways. And pick arguments and bring up lefty political boilerplate from FaceCrack memes and the lefty university crowd they hang around with, internationally flavored, as in Internationale. Gets vociferous and belligerent and fries everyones’ nerves. Came back to our house here several hours ago and took over the media per SOP and is still at it and Mom had to ask her to turn the tee-vee down twice. As Mom is now in a bad mood, probably slugged down some vino and already hungover, and pissed off and gone to bed.

It gets so that I can’t wait to seem them both leave in the morning and give me a week’s peace again.

“The holidays are a very stressful time. ESPECIALLY with family dynamics.

Bingo again. I was doing well until early afternoon today. I really try hard and also try to remember all my VA-originated CPT and mindfulness stuff and so on, and I didn’t blow my top but I seethe a little, know what I mean? And then try to think good thoughts, blah, blah, blah.

I also remember my old cop days when Xmas Eve was/is the worst night of the year, mainly for the steady stream of domestics, when one or more parties are drunk, doped up, and there are weapons in the residence, of course. Then you have all the arraignments and court dates thereafter, etc., etc. Gigantic PITA and dangerous.

Anyway, I’m off to the Land of Nod, hopefully, w/o any more bad dreams or nightmares, and they’re off in the morning at some point. And then it’s me and my cats and the dawg. And running errands and doing chores, per usual, and waiting to hear something one way or the other from the Feds on the job.

    Ten minutes left, so:

That’s pretty sad. I think when my ex-brother in law falls off the perch his kids will attend his funeral. At least the ones who are in the country. I doubt if my sister will.

“…this morning and then the usual suspect did her best to rain on the parade this afternoon and evening. Right on schedule.”

    Details, or it didn’t happen.

  14. brad says:

What with the wife’s business, we always have a super-stressful run up to the holidays. If you ever want to enjoy your holidays, or for that matter, your weekends, *don’t* run a gastro-related business. The day we closed, we both got sick. It’s like our bodies know that we can’t afford to be sick during the madness, but when the pressure is off…boom. Doesn’t happen every year, but certainly more often than not.

SteveF writes: you can grow your own bread yeast. Get the instructions from an advanced homebrew book

I’ve been thinking of trying that, since I brew and my wife likes to bake. One thing I wonder – maybe SteveF or someone can shed some light – what are the main differences between yeast varieties for brewing and baking? Minor differences in flavour profiles, sure, but in terms of performance? Is there any reason we couldn’t find a strain that would serve both purposes?

DadCooks makes me jealous: $4.44/pound for prime rib? Prices here for good meat are about 10 times that. Switzerland has lots of dairy cattle, which make for mediocre meat, so good beef is imported. But there are whopping tarifs on agricultural products, especially meat, so. A set of 4 really nice, good-sized steaks to toss on the grill can easily cost $100. We don’t do it often…grilling tends to be pork, chicken and (when we can get it) ostrich.

Brussels sprouts: halved, briefly fried in butter, soy sauce and garlic. Yum! But then, I also like sauerkraut, and just about any other form of cabbage, so I’m weird….

  15. Ray Thompson says:

He died alone, and none of his 8 kids came to his funeral. Says something right there

My aunt refused to attend the funeral when her father (my grandfather) died. Everyone in the family was livid at her for not attending. Basically she did not want to face her father’s death and that was her way of dealing. Why that is any business of the rest of family is beyond me.

My aunt did die alone, in a nursing home. Rest of the family pretty much hated my aunt and uncle’s guts with a passion. Various reasons and they were fairly obnoxious people whom you did not want to be around. Raised me since I was seven and I felt the same way.

I would still go visit because I felt a bit of commitment (or stupidity) largely at the wife’s urging. Of course this caused them to come visit us in Texas. Had a couple of flare ups with them on their visits. Was glad to see them leave.

When my aunt started having real problems with dementia my plan was to drive her deep into the Olympic National Forest, get her real confused, drive away, get to a ranger shack and report her missing at a different location. Wife refused to go along. So we drug her back to TN and let her demise take a more natural course. That cost us 10 years of never ending problems and spiteful hate from my aunt.

There was no funeral as no one would have shown up except my friends. They did not know her so why would they care. Support for me? Hah, I was glad that old hag had finally kicked the bucket. Called the other other family members and their comments were mostly along the line of rot in hell. Even her sister, my mother, was glad her sister was gone.

Mother-in-law is going to be a problem in the future. Wife calls her every day and they talk for an hour or more. MIL really does not like me. I tolerate her and that is about it. I have given her advice on money matters, she ignores me, and is now complaining that she has lost money from SS and filing her taxes wrong. She is going to consult a professional, female of course, who will tell her what I have been saying. But MIL is not going to let a man tell her anything, especially me. And thus it goes.

  16. DadCooks says:

@brad, that $4.44/lb. for prime rib is a loss leader the store runs this time of year. The grade of beef is USDA Select to Commercial (4 and 5 of the USDAs 8 grades). The meat is very lean, essentially no marbling. However, careful shopping can turn up cuts that have essentially been misgraded and do contain a little marbling.

I do not use the crock-pot for quality prime rib, that that is labeled as Certified Angus and Choice or Prime. To crock-pot that would be a crime, it deserves proper oven/Weber Kettle/smoker treatment.

Since lower grades of meat contain so little fat they must be slow moist cooked (i.e. in a crock-pot) or you end up with tasteless shoe leather.

With cooking “tools” like all tools, selecting the right tool for the material and job is the key to success.

Mrs. OFD and Princess off to Moh-ree-all where the Missus can spend even more joyous quality time with her until her flight leaves for Kalifornia tomorrow afternoon.

Overcast, 27 currently, and the rest of today and the week will allegedly be similar but with accompanying snow, sleet, freezing rain, rain, and wind gusts to 50 MPH, thus pushing the Chill Facta down to near zero. I’ll mainly spend it indoors, here, and at the local DMV and the Toyota dealership, I guess. Exciting.

NOT LIKE US. NOT. LIKE. US.

This is the antithesis of HUMAN. The young of the species are the future of the species. YOUR OWN young are YOUR future. And the Clinton Crime Family’s political aspirations ain’t over yet, either; Princess Chelsea the Entitled One will run for whatever offices with funding from their criminal foundation and other slush funds all over the world and will be feted and adored and worshiped and glorified by the usual MSM suspects and the die-hard commie Left in this country, who never, ever give up or stop.

    Buzzkill Alert Over.

“They are monsters and need to be burned from the face of the earth.

Story after story after story of stuff like this and for some of us, it still fails to register with our same disgust and outrage, among members of our own families. Let alone friends, neighbors or the public at large. And if ONE poor solitary musloid person gets beaten up by skinhead assholes out in West Bumfuck, Nebraska, he or she stands in for ALL musloids as being as much of a tragic sacrifice as Christ on the cross and it trumps (sorry) all other horror stories.

Like Mr. Nick suggests, I’m not gonna bother going to the linked story, but will only add that it took place in the capital of a failed state that is now being fought over by half a dozen nation-states and other political and military entities, and we are in it at least to our pelvic region. And guess what, effendi? We’re once again backing the wrong “side.” And our evil empire enemies the Russians are on the “right one.” But how about just getting out and staying out of these hell-holes?

I also agree with Mr. Nick that this sort of evil needs to be eradicated from the planet. Now I’ll just wait with baited breath and see if there is any outrage from Western parents.

  22. MrAtoz says:

Maybe Cankles will use Chelsea as a suicide bomber. That’s as far she will make it. Cankles’ future gigs will be by ambulance.

  23. Dave Hardy says:

Suicide is not on the Clinton Crime Family’s agenda unless they can make someone else do it; how many have been murdered or committed suicide during their time on the planet so far? How many have gone to jail or prison or otherwise been thrown under the bus (in earlier times thrown from the sleigh to pursuing wolves in the winter snows)?

Once they finally croak, it is a sin to rejoice at the death of an unrepentant sinner, but it will be very, very hard not to.

NOT LIKE US. NOT. LIKE. US.

Yes, like us. Do a search on net for news where a father killed his children. You don’t have too look hard. I found cases from here in Romania, and I found cases from USA too. And none of them happened in a war zone.

That little syrian girl, lived under a war for much of her live. How many of her brothers and sisters died already? from bombs maybe? No place to hide. What desperate that father might have felt, what intense view of end-of-the-world must he had? Like “take my little girl now bastards, cause she’s already dead tomorrow”. Or he could just been a cynical criminal monster. Who knows for sure?

ADDED: Ok, he was a monster. I’ve read the article.

  30. Dave Hardy says:

Sure, there are numerous cases of parents murdering their own children; how many of them are cases where the parent/s wrapped the child, not in swaddling clothes in a manger, but with rolls of burlap filled with C4 or dynamite and sent said child into the midst of unarmed and defenseless people so child and victims could all die together?

Which reminds me of another question I can ask musloid apologists: how many cases have there been in the last thirty years of Christian, Jewish, Buddhist or atheist terrorists and bombers murdering civilians? They can probably be counted on one or two hands, at most, whereas the musloid atrocities could fill a fat volume, like the one put together some years ago of communist atrocities, IIRC, “The Black Book of Communism.”

“She’s maneuvering for a safe Dumbocrat Reps seat in NY, I hear.”

Sure, I bet she’s a chip of the old fugly block, too; ends up getting a seat handed to her in preference over a much more long-serving and deserving candidate, like Nita Lowey. Not that I gave/give a rap about Lowey, but Cankles got the Senate seat that Lowey would have got, and the fix was in good and hard. The Wiki piece makes it sound like Lowey just gave up her shot at it out of the goodness of her heart; what a laugh. Wife and I used to know and talk with very knowledgeable NYC-area and Vampire State politicians and their circles and they had nothing but loathing for both Cankles AND Giuliani and murderous hatred for the Cumos, father and son.

“I don’t share your belief system, so I’ll rejoice for you.

Hey, have at it! I don’t share your belief system, either, but deeply empathize with your rejoicing.

  31. SteveF says:

much more long-serving and deserving candidate

Those are pretty well mutually contradictory. Professional politicians should not exist in the US. I also dispute the word “serving” in relation to any politician or bureaucrat, unless as “self-serving”.

I think the Klintons political capital is spent. We can watch donations to the Krime Family Foundation to check. If it starts going down, they are dead. Who would want to pay the Klintons anything? Maybe they have blackmail on peeps. I certainly don’t see any big foreign donations coming in anymore.

  33. Dave Hardy says:

“…Those are pretty well mutually contradictory…”

I shouda put the (sarc) thing on the end when I wrote that.

“Maybe they have blackmail on peeps.”

Bingo. Blackmail and the series of “accidents,” “suicides,” and outright murders of potential witnesses and opponents and dissidents from Clintonian holy writ or simply being in their way. Well, if in fact their “contributions” and bribes have dried up, they will still have made a huge fortune and handed it off to Princess Chelsea, sort of like old man Kennedy did for his litters and you see the result today; dozens of political hacks and useless celeb types, cluttering up the air waves and bandwidth.

    More hate and vitriol here:

“A lesson of the French Revolution is that once people begin to question the legitimacy of the system, everything is soon up for grabs. The reckless disregard for their duties, by people like Merkel, is planting the seeds for something much worse than the monthly Exploding Mohamed we see in the news.

Unless some Europeans get on the stick and start throwing the bums out and acting rationally, the Continent is lost, except maybe for some former Eastern Bloc areas that have recently shown some gumption. But like the essay points out, do-gooder morons in this country and Europe think it’s just a swell idea to bring in “refugees” from there. Burlington, Vermont got Somalis, and shockingly, several of them have been arrested over the years for such crimes as assault, robbery, rape and murder. And we have maybe ten or twelve living over in the “city” of St. Albans, and again, shockingly, the males are in the police blotter every week for thefts, robberies, assaults, etc. Knife fights on Federal Street, right near a popular restaurant, a state office building, and the railroad’s central HQ offices.

Speaking of having a lot on our plates, my biggest SHTF worry now that the would-be Empress Cankles is probably out of the running (thus, nukular war with Russia) comes back to our financial house of cards:

“Having squandered the time we had instead of addressing the issue we now have four to five years remaining before it all goes to Hell and we, in America, have front-row seats that are well within the blast radius.”

It was not “education” either what fascist Germany did to jews (and Romania helped it). And what is Germany now? The Europe’s engine (and that in a short time). This is just an example from many you could find in the ‘civilized’ world, or non-musloid part of it.

I don’t think the following picture is less cruel, or less monstruous than what that jihadist did with his daughter:

I don’t recall if I’ve mentioned here that my first wife was black.* Despite that, she agreed with me, as we lived in a sliding-toward-dysfunctional city, that no matter how strong the desire of ordinary middle-class citizens to judge everyone on their individual merits, urban black folk make it really really difficult not to develop a racial animus against them and everyone who looks like them.

Twenty years later, it’s much worse in the US. You know, the thing I love best about the Obama years has been all the racial healing.

Coming from a family that brought some of the original Angus cattle into this country and who maintained the Aberdeen Angus Registry until the late 1950s, I have a bias to 100% pure Angus and there are a few breeders who stick to that standard. The Angus Breeders Association has had many conflicts over the years and my Grandfather was one of the few who fought to keep the breed pure.

On to the state of the world.

I have been reading all the not-fake news I can regarding what the U.N. did to Israel. We had better be extra vigilant. I predict that Netanyahu is going to do something big that will make the 1967 Arab-Israeli War look like a picnic. Netanyahu is just waiting for Trump to take over. There is a lot going on behind the scenes. Obuttwad will probably feel the judgement of Mossad. And do not put it past Putin to support and aid Israel. We may be closer to a major war than you think and Obuttwad lit the fuse.

WRT moosloids killing children: Better take a close look here at home at the positions of the radical Women’s Right To Choose folks. They advocate post term “abortion” being allowed well into puberty. Yes, this is an F-uped country with way too many brain dead idiot immoral people. Don’t look to the Religious Right/Evangelicals for a solution as they are unwilling to exercise judgement on these sinners. We are way past the days of forgiveness and kneeling in the Confessional and saying a few Hail Marys is not going to save us either.

I’m almost done with my rant and warning for today. Mind me, Israel is going to demonstrate to the world what it means to not stand by Israel and we had better be prepared to support them. Like it or not, Christian Salvation (and all other believers and non-believers) is dependent on the preservation of the Jewish People and Jerusalem.

Vigilant and prepared to stand my ground.

I don’t see Chelsea getting into politics. Too much truth will emerge after Bill croaks … any day now from the look of him.

I’m beginning to wonder if I missed out on something. As a teenager, I never once lootrd a mall, rioted, burned down stores, etc.

  48. SteveF says:

I never did any of that either, and never raped anyone, whether in a group or by myself.

On the plus side, I interfered with several other rambunctious teens’ efforts to check that box on their bucket list, so I’m just sharin’ the misery here.

  49. Dave Hardy says:

“I don’t recall if I’ve mentioned here that my first wife was black.*”

And here’s a fun revelation of my own: my first wife is Jewish, of mostly Czech, Russian and Hungarian background, and B. Netanyahu is a cousin as is one of the IDF generals. She’s fairly conservative and not religious at all and is, according to New Jersey Monthly Magazine, one of the “top 100 lawyers in New Jersey.” Her field is medical malpractice law. I’ve had no contact with her since 1996, but it was an amicable divorce and she basically dumped me for being a loser unemployed former grad student drunk, which I was. Her dad also did his best to sandbag the marriage from Day One.

“Like it or not, Christian Salvation (and all other believers and non-believers) is dependent on the preservation of the Jewish People and Jerusalem.

I’ve heard that before from various sources over the years and I do not believe it. I think we worry overly much about Israel and turn a blind eye to what they do and don’t do over there, as we give or sell them military weapons systems and intel, and provide the same to their enemies in the region, to the tune of many billions per year, and cui bono? The arms merchants and corporations, mainly. I do believe, however, that they can defend themselves, don’t need us or our weapons systems, or our lousy intel, for that matter. A pox on them all over there is what I think.

“Too much truth will emerge after Bill croaks …”

Plenty of truth has emerged all during the Clinton Crime Family’s depredations and evil over the decades and it has not stopped them until last month, and we can’t even be sure of that, yet. What has emerged already is pretty effin awful, if you ask me. They’re both war criminals, for starters, and probably traitors, by the normal legal definition of that word. So why even bother with the theft, rapes and murders?

“I’m beginning to wonder if I missed out on something. As a teenager, I never once lootrd a mall, rioted, burned down stores, etc.”

I did plenty of bad stuff as a teenager but never at that level. And the further bad stuff I committed as a teenager was under the auspices of my Uncle.

“I don’t think the following picture is less cruel, or less monstruous than what that jihadist did”

I do. Killing your own child, using your DAUGHTER as a weapon, is monstrous. It is opposite every basic and natural belief. We protect the juveniles and females of even PREY species because we understand that without them, the species will suffer.

Dropping bombs on a faceless, nameless enemy may be a monstrous act, but it doesn’t take a monster to do it. Blowing up the flesh of your flesh, hands on and personal is a completely different thing. And tactically it was a very poor exchange, 3 wounded for one dead. He WASTED the life of his child.

” we did get a chance and come clean (?). Maybe they deserve one too.”

No one here is stopping them. They’ve had a thousand years and this is what they’ve become. Contrast that with what freedom and western civilization have accomplished in the same thousand years. We’ve completely eliminated major diseases, set foot on our moon, touched distant planets. We can swap your heart for one from a dead man, restore hearing to the deaf, feed millions of people around the world with the work of only 100s of thousands. We can communicate, educate, recreate across the vast oceans and deserts in real time in full motion and living color. They would destroy all that.

No they are NOT LIKE US.

    nick

for DadCooks, yes, many people kill children, including us. Many here even kill their own children, born or unborn. But we don’t use our own children as bombs to kill others. Not once, ever. This is a perversion unique to the mooslim, as far as I can tell.

I’m beginning to wonder if I missed out on something. As a teenager, I never once lootrd a mall, rioted, burned down stores, etc.

Me either. All I did was build models and read any book that I could get my hands on. And started working at age 15 as a computer programmer for my Dad. I got my 10,000 hours in before I was 25.

No they are NOT LIKE US.

Ok, they are not like us. The man there, loved his child and killed her, maybe because of being brain-washed. The man here hated his children, and just killed them. Someone may find a cure for the first man. What about the second?

  54. Eugen (Romania) says:

Contrast that with what freedom and western civilization have accomplished

What we have did was to develop our skills, our procedures to make things. Those procedures required books and thinking. People stopped burning witches and started to think. So let’s drop all those skill books, written in their language, on their heads, and see what will happen.

What should we do about Africa?

    http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/924795/posts?page=5

    Nothing. Nothing CAN be done.

The author is the living proof that something CAN be done: he got educated from all that. But even he can’t see it, when he stupidily concludes: “So here’s my solution for the African fiasco: a high wall around the whole continent, all the guns and bombs in the world for everyone inside, and at the end, the last one alive should do us all a favor and kill himself. “

  58. nick flandrey says:

Nope, Kim Du Toit didn’t get educated by Africa. He was educated by western parents, in a western enclave, surrounded by that in Africa. Suffering does not make one a better person. Being surrounded by ignorance, death, and violence doesn’t ‘educate’ you to become a productive member of society. He was educated and left DESPITE being surrounded by Africa.

It was a nice bit of nostalgia to read Kim again. He shut down his blog some years ago, and only infrequently posts comments elsewhere. He was one of the pioneers of blogging.

Note his comment, written in 2003:

“All we should do is make sure that none of Africa gets transplanted over to the U.S., because the danger to our society is dire if it does. I note that several U.S. churches are attempting to bring groups of African refugees over to the United States, European churches the same for Europe. Mistake. Mark my words, this misplaced charity will turn around and bite us, big time.”

Prophetic words. Completely proven correct. And an example of why I miss his writing.

Middle easterners, north africans, south africans, middle africans, and followers of the “prophet” have had 1000 years to advance if they wanted to (with the example and aid of the west). Instead, they have regressed and moved backward whenever they had control. Even the Saudis, perhaps the most advanced of them, are working diligently to advance one of the most repressive and retrograde versions of isslam- Wahhabi-ism- throughout the world.

Kim’s argument, that nothing the west has done in 100 years has helped africa, so we should leave them alone to fight thru and solve their own problems, may be simplistic, or exaggerated for effect, but if you discover that what you are doing doesn’t help, and often makes things worse, the FIRST thing you should do is STOP. Then try something else. Or in this case, stop trying to ‘help those poor people’ and let them discover how to help themselves.

“Like it or not, Christian Salvation (and all other believers and non-believers) is dependent on the preservation of the Jewish People and Jerusalem.

I’ve heard that before from various sources over the years and I do not believe it.

I realize that is a hard concept to grasp and the explanation of it is now beyond the capabilities of my dulling brain, plus it would require a long time to explain. So I am ducking the issue with a little background, I may have mentioned some of this before.

I grew up in a neighborhood and went to a high school with a high population of practicing Jews. My Boy Scout Troop was sponsored by a Synagogue and I was the only Gentile. My Episcopal Church was very High Church and we had many Catholics who attended as the did not like the Low Church practiced by many of the Catholic Churches in my area. I not only earned the Episcopal God and Country Award but also the Jewish God and Country Award (unfortunately the God and Country Award having real meaning has been thrown out along with the last line of the Scout Oath “morally straight”).

This environment gave me an interesting perspective of how religions interacted and how each depended on the other. There is a scheme here that we were not meant to fully comprehend.

In my youth, Boy Scouts and my Church and adopted Synagogue played a big part in shaping me. It’s a real shame that the immoral left was allowed to destroy a program that built men. For those of you who are Old Scouts and for those who missed the opportunity I provide you with the foundation:

    Boy Scout Oath
    On my honor,
    I will do my best
    To do my duty
    to God and my country
    and to obey the Scout Law;
    To help other people at all times;
    To keep myself physically strong,
    mentally awake and
    morally straight.

    Boy Scout Law
    A Scout is:
    Trustworthy,
    Loyal,
    Helpful,
    Friendly,
    Courteous,
    Kind,
    Obedient,
    Cheerful,
    Thrifty,
    Brave,
    Clean,
    and Reverent.

    Boy Scout Motto
    Be Prepared!

    Boy Scout Slogan
    Do a Good Turn Daily!

  61. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

Africa’s insuperable fundamental problem is low IQ. Every civilization that has developed has been a result of what their tiny percentage of geniuses did. The top 1% in IQ implement the discoveries of the top 0.01%. In white and yellow populations, geniuses are rare, but in black populations they’re essentially nonexistent.

Consider that on a bell curve where the mean is IQ = 100 and the standard deviation is 15, one must be four sigmas above the mean. The problem is that the mean IQ of black Africans is 70, or two sigmas below the universe mean. That means that to be a genius, a black African must be *SIX* sigmas above the mean of his subset of the universe population. His 160 IQ is as rare in his group as a 190 IQ is among the general white and yellow population.

Even more serious is that top 1% of the population that implements the discoveries and inventions of geniuses. In white and yellow populations, people of that IQ are reasonably common. In black populations, they’re about as rare as are true geniuses among the white/yellow populations. The result is that Africa can’t even leverage the inventions of foreign geniuses. They simply don’t have enough 1% implementers to do the job.

That’s why Rhodesia was heaven on earth for African blacks. Despite the white-rule thing, blacks were fighting to get INTO Rhodesia, where all the jobs that required intelligence were held by white Africans. When Mugabe overthrew white rule, whites departed in droves, and Rhodesia went from being the African country where blacks were wealthiest and had the best medical care to an absolute hellhole, with a large percentage of the population starving. That’s what happens when you throw out all your bright people.

  62. Dave Hardy says:

@Mr. DadCooks; Yes, I remember all that; I grew up in a Boston suburb with a large Jewish population and I was also an Episcopalian, mainly “middle church,” as it turned out. And I was a Boy Scout, too, though briefly.

And thanks to Mr. Nick and RBT for their additional clarifications on Africa and IQ. They’ll be rounded up and executed for this doubleplusungood hate crime, of course.

  63. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

I was thrown out of the Cub Scouts for being an atheist. They literally asked me not to come back. Which is why I’ve never had any use for the Cub/Boy Scouts.

  64. DadCooks says:

I was thrown out of the Cub Scouts for being an atheist. They literally asked me not to come back. Which is why I’ve never had any use for the Cub/Boy Scouts.

Just another example of ignorant myopic intolerant indifference. I was fortunate to live in an area of common sense enlightenment, very rare and virtually nonexistent today. People no longer know how to accept or work with people who do not believe exactly as they do. The drive is to take away our free will and individuality.

I bet that “duty to God” got you in trouble with the so called leaders. Well their ignorance is what destroyed the Scouting Program so that now it is just an immoral disorganization of misfits (with a very few exceptions).

Another phrase that got the Scouts in trouble was “morally straight”. Some may find it had to believe, but I have known Gays/Lesbians (before the creation of the LGBTQ+ movement) who were “morally straight”. They were enlightened and knew that they must lead a celibate life. In some ways they developed an even greater understanding of what love really is.

  65. paul says:

I tried Boy Scouts for a while. 6th or 7th grade. Long enough to get the uniform and all. To this day, I really don’t give a rat’s about how to tie a half bow slip whatever knot so I can rappel down a cliff. If I can tie knots well enough that my boat ain’t drifting away from the dock and my shoes stay on, I’m good. If I need more, I still have my $1.00 Fourth Printing 1968 Boy Scout Handbook.

It was suppose to be fun. Sitting inside practicing knot tying while everyone else was outside playing was not fun. Paying half of my weekly allowance for “dues” was not fun. Yeah, just 25¢ … for milk and a few cookies. You /do/ know how many penny approvals you can buy for a quarter?

So I quit. They called. I don’t know what they said after mom gave dad the phone but I guess my 25¢ a week made a difference to their budget. My dad started to go ballistic but actually gave me a (very rare) chance to talk before pulling off his belt. Didn’t get the belt that time.

Anyway, all the above chatter to say that I always thought “morally straight” meant things like “be helpful/useful”, don’t lie, don’t cheat, don’t steal, study hard at school and behave. Stuff like that.

Nothing to do with sex. Nothing. Hell, I first read about pubic hair in my Boy Scout Handbook and I was pretty much shocked about the whole idea.

    This was all in Mobile.

Before that, we lived in Oceanside and Boys Club as a 2nd and 3rd grader was a blast! Playing pool. Going swimming. A couple of day trips to Disneyland! We went camping and I still remember the fun of helping to build a beaver dam. That we tore down the next day.

  66. Dave Hardy says:

I grew up with parents and other relatives, schoolteachers, Episcopal clergy, the local librarians, etc., with that same idea of being morally straight, just common sense stuff to Do the Right Thing as best as you can. And don’t do the wrong things; i.e. we were taught the difference between right and wrong then, and I believe most if not all of us have that kind of hardwired in us with normal parents at very early stages, if not before that, even.

Normals know instinctively, for example, that you do not wrap your seven-year-old daughter with explosives and send her into a police station to be obliterated.

We know we’re not supposed to bayonet prisoners of war or wounded on a battlefield or behead them or burn them alive in cages.

Or take money from foreign governments in order to grant them favors at the expense of your own countrymen.

Or to rape underage children and subordinate human beings in your power.

And we do know it’s right to help someone who’s fallen in the street or a person who’s been injured in some way.

But we live in an uglier and coarser society nowadays and fewer people have all these compunctions and codes of conduct in their heads.
