Sat. Dec. 7, 2019 – “a date which will live in infamy”

By on December 7th, 2019 in Random Stuff

Not so cool, but plenty damp. [wrong monkey boy 50F and 89%RH]

Whatever else happened, and the why of it, Japan woke the sleeping giant. The parallels to today should be self-evident. In the long run, fortunately for them, they seem to have won, except for the weird psychosis’s. However they won without us losing, which I don’t think will happen again, and it took a couple of generations.

Lots of ‘out and about’ today. Females are all away at camp so it’ll be wild women and parties for me and the dog- gotta keep up the traditions.

I’ll check in periodically. Try not to light anything on fire…..

Still getting 500 errors, though it’s very random, also something else weird. I visited this morning on my iPad using safari (and where I’m commenting from) and saw Saturday’s post. Later, I was on my PC, and couldn’t see Saturday’s post from either Firefox or Edge. I had to go back to the iPad to see the latest post and comment.

  2. ITGuy1998 says:

I checked on the PC immediately after posting the above, and Saturday’s post and my comment showed up.

  3. nick flandrey says:

Yeah, I got the 500 error too, but posts look normal. Eventually Rick will wake up (he’s PST) and I’m sure he’ll take a look.

The errors are frustrating but fortunately reloading still works.

    Um, no she doesn’t.

Lizzo looks sensational in TINY denim shorts and a PVC corset as she works the stage at KIIS FM’s Jingle Ball”

If you have a weak stomach and heteronormal stimulus response, better just skip the link. Provided only as a data point that SJWs and progs always lie, and that we’re sliding down the slope….

That is some crazy right there….

The five-time Oscar-nominated actress confided in E! News that ‘I avoided getting married for a really long time because I don’t like people looking at me.

But it will rinse your mental eyes after the denim diaper pics….

    Um, no she doesn’t.

Agreed. It is just the media trying pat themselves on their own backs.

RIP Ron Leibman. I liked his acting. I even rember “The Super Cops” when he popped out of a cardboard box. That goes back away.

Lizzo is in “Hustlers”. All of the PR is part of a media push run by Universal to draw attention to the flick and get “J Lo” an Oscar. Plus, the DVD hits next week.

Constance Wu cr*pping on “Fresh Off The Boat” was another part of the media push for “Hustlers”, prior to the theatrical release. Bet she didn’t count on Disney buying the studio behind “Crazy Rich Asians”.

(In the words of another Fox star, “Doh!” )

Jennifer Lopez can act when she is in Oscar quality material, but I wouldn’t put “Hustlers” in that category. Entertaining, but not “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood”, which will see a release date on the same day.

Screeners for Oscar nominations are out now. That’s how I saw “Hustlers”.

BTW, my wife absolves all caucasians over any guilt about watching “Fresh Off The Boat”. There’s far more truth there than “Crazy Rich Asians”, and Ray Wise is comedy genius as the neighbor.

I’ll give Adams leeway since that is obvious PR flack work in a year that she doesn’t have a film.

This should have been the year for the “Enchanted” sequel, but Disney took Kevin Lima to the woodshed for spilling the secret in an interview that the company can’t do hand drawn animation in house anymore, dating back as far as a dozen years or more, when he made the original film and had to outsource that footage.

Man, my ears are ringing today. I ran over a feral pig last night leaving the office (on purpose, on my property). There were about 30 of them crossing the road in front of me. I gunned it and got one of them, a 50 or 60 lb male. I did not totally kill him so I shot him twice with my .44 carry. No hearing protection in my truck though.

I have heard that when you have a feral pig’s blood on a piece of land that they will not come back. One can only hope. The buzzards should be happy today. And I need to go drag the carcass off the main road.

I’m awake! (Actually, have been. Got up earlier than usual today. Usual for me is ‘the crack of 9am’.)

Site response is intermittent, which makes it hard to diagnose. I go here many times a day, and sometimes it is slow, and sometimes normal. A reload on a slow load is fast – you’d think it would also be slow. (Caching disabled on my browser.)

So, hard to figure out some consistent sequence to report to the hosting place. Still think is is other sites on the shared server having ‘load spikes’ that affect this site. Not sure if anything can be done about that. Maybe get the host to move this place to another shared server. Don’t think that the expense of a dedicated server is worth it. VPS hosting would be $120/year extra minimum.

Peloton piling on. They’ll need a new actress for the next commercial.

I’ve always wondered what happened to the actor who potrayed the doughy, punching bag husband in this commercial. So Gen X/Housing Bubble victim -er- buyer. I have a follow up in mind … a really dark follow up, but the right time to make it would have been 2009/10.

Still, another bubble is brewing in Florida.

Points to Ryan Reynolds. Beer money, @Lynn.

Whew, what a lot of driving around today. Nice weather for it though.

Tried to sit down in front of the tv and watch some youtube, but my TiVo isn’t connecting to our network anymore for some reason. I have a suspicion wife’s made some change to the Circle kiddy filter, since my kodi box can’t stream from youtube either. The TiVo can’t even see tive.com though, so there might be something more.

    Pain in the butt regardless.

Getting new tires on the F-150 on the 17th. Real Michelin’s, not the stuff that Costco sells. Costco Michelin’s are not the best that Michelin makes. Sometimes takes 5 or 6 ounces to balance the tires. Thus I am going to an independent dealer who gets first line tires from Michelin. Like a lot of stuff that Costco sells they arrange for their brand (Kirkland) or special runs from manufacturers.

I am still running the factory originals almost 5.5 years after I bought the vehicle. I have 85K miles on the tires, still some tread left, maybe enough for another couple thousand miles. With winter coming on I would prefer to have thicker treads on the tires. Not that I am going to drive in the snow. I figure I got my money’s worth. The new tires will be almost $1300.00 installed.

I found out about Costco’s deals with vendors when I purchased a modem. It was a Netgear modem, Netgear box, but was missing some features. Also Netgear was not updating the firmware as the modem was running non-standard firmware and downloading the newer firmware from the Netgear site would not install.

Second items was a computer, supposedly Dell. Not quite. Seems the BIOS is a little odd and the components were less than optimum, especially the spinning disk drive. It was supposed to be 7200 RPM but was about the speed of a 5400 RPM. I suspect the cache had been eliminated or some such trickery, perhaps in the data buss. A SSD made it much better.

So I have learned my lesson. Some of the stuff from Costco is OK as long as Costco has not dickered with the manufacturer for special consideration.

  17. nick flandrey says:

I’ve mentioned the travails of updating the costco dell I am using as an NVR. They leave things out, like power headers, and sata ports. And the software WILL NOT run correctly on the costco dell in the 64bit version. It does run on my main desktop, a Dell small business pc.

    So yeah, something ain’t right.

That said, for consumer level machines they are fine.

@lynn, squeal piggy! No hams? No bacon?

Nope. I left her laying in the middle of my road last night after I put her down. I went and moved her to the grass under the watchful eyes of six buzzards this afternoon. I think that they want her a little more ripe before they start.

I just hope the rest of the pack stays away for another year. They have trashed about two acres in the last three weeks. I wish that I could have gotten all thirty of them.

My new 4×4 F-150 came with 18 inch Michelins M+S tires on it. If the Costco Michelins are cheaper than the regular Michelins then I wonder what the Ford Michelins are like ? They have plenty of traction except when wet and then I turn on the 4×4.

I usually buy Sam’s Club Michelins when they put them on sale in December. The last set that I bought for the Expedition were $900. They are great tires but I never got more than 45,000 miles out of a set because I drive my vehicles like I stole them.

Mine came with 20” (P275/55R20) Bridgestone tires. Traction has never been an issue. I suspect a Ford has Michelin make tires specifically for their use.

I drive my vehicles like I stole them

I don’t and the tires rotated on each service. I check pressures once a month.

I would never buy a Hunter fan from Costco. Hunter has a long history of bending over for big box retail.

Also, I’ve written here before about the auto buying program. It doesn’t work the way you think. The vendor pays Costco for the rights to run the program under Costco’s name, and then the dealers pay the vendor to pass along the leads.

If you have a problem with the buying program and/or the dealer, you won’t get any help from Issaquah. I speak from experience. The cashiers do cease with the upsell on deluxe memberships if you start talking about it in line in front of other customers.
