Mon. Jan. 27, 2025 – …but I did not shoot the deputy…

By on January 27th, 2025 in culture, decline and fall, march to war

Cool and wet. Maybe soaking wet. Rained on and off all day yesterday, and into the night. Even if it doesn’t rain today it will be wet from all the rain we’ve been getting. And I think it will rain.

Did some small things, mostly computer related, yesterday. The weather was an impediment to some of what I wanted to do, and so was my motivation. I’m not feeling 100%… and wasn’t up to a bunch of work. Excuses. I’ve got um.

Anyway, today is another day. Get the kids and wife out the door. Get the auction stuff done. Do some domestic bliss. Do something off the list. Rinse and repeat. Do kid taxi stuff. Maybe have dinner with sibling… We have Christmas gifts to exchange after all…

Meanwhile the world turns and the deep state reels in horror… and begins to fight for their lives. I’m sure it will come to bloodshed. Don’t know when or why exactly, but it will.

Prep ye while ye still can.

That’s all I’ve got.

52F and wet.  Still drippy, but not actively raining.

    Ground has standing water.

We got some rain. LA got some. I5 closed between LA and Bakersfield due to snow.

Ed, so what happened out there on the desert?

  3. EdH says:

@dkreck:    Sadly nothing on the valley floor, 32.7F just before sunrise here.

But the lower parts of the foothills have some, a friend sent me some pics of a dusting.

  4. dkreck says:

Snow in Tehachapi too but SR58 remains open.

  5. EdH says:

My brother in the foothills has a bit.

Watching out the windows we do get flurries of snow occasionally, but nothing sticks, it is mostly light rain.

The rabbits foraging in the bird seed look particularly bedraggled this morning.

    Idiots.

Starting on January 19, 2025 Facebook’s internal policy makers decided that Linux is malware and labelled groups associated with Linux as being “cybersecurity threats”. Any posts mentioning DistroWatch and multiple groups associated with Linux and Linux discussions have either been shut down or had many of their posts removed.

We’ve been hearing all week from readers who say they can no longer post about Linux on Facebook or share links to DistroWatch. Some people have reported their accounts have been locked or limited for posting about Linux.

The sad irony here is that Facebook runs much of its infrastructure on Linux and often posts job ads looking for Linux developers.

Selena Gomez breaks down crying in emotional video while speaking about Trump’s deportation policy

Another PLT who takes limo’s to protests and cries on social media.  Probably has a dozen crimmigrants doing her bidden. I doubt she has a “friend” who is illegal, just high falutin’ Hollyweird pedo’s. Really, filming yourself crying on social media for clicks is a real sign of mental illness.

Who? And why do I care? If she does not like U.S. policies, leave. Go somewhere else that will offer her the same opportunities she has had in the U.S. And good luck with that.

Joe Biden Scandal Deepens Post-Term After ‘Accidental’ Commutation Is Revealed, Dem Hypocrisy Exposed

We need to know who drew up these pardons, who vetted the list of names, and why Adrian Peeler [a drug lord who murdered an eight-year-old boy and his mother to stop them from testifying] was included. Was it truly an “accident?” Or was this another act of “social justice” by one of the former president’s handlers? Biden’s mental incapacity remains the biggest scandal in presidential history. Every person involved in the cover-up needs to be exposed. Letting bygones by bygones isn’t an option.

Over the weekend I turned the S2E2 of “Only Murders in the Building” (Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short) off. Lazy, stupid, lousy , crappy writing that none of the “stars” apparently objected to*. Don’t know if I’ll ever get back to it. Better stuff to watch.

*If you’ve seen it you may remember Steve Martin letting the ground-floor exit door of the secret elevator lock behind him when he didn’t have the patience to hold it open more than five seconds and wait for the others to get there.

De-laning is a euphimism for de stupification.

What do you bet the retards in PA have their own school(s). Why don’t they de-lane them right into their new ethnic studies requirement? In fact, if ethnic studies are generally required shouldn’t other types of minority studies be required? How about studying the life of the left-tail of the IQ spectrum?

I’ve posted before how terrible Gomez is in OMITB. I wouldn’t even miss her if she got canned.

The innertubes are giving her a brutal smackdown. Her net wealth is over $1 billion. Put your money where your mouth is. This is probably to swing award shows towards her shitty tranny movie.

Introducing the dumbest kids in a generation. Just cashiering the Dept. Of Ed. Will make kids smarter. A TEOTWAWKI event will kill off anyone under 30 because they are unable to take care of themselves. tRump can’t get rid of the Doe fast enough.

Selena Gomez is in the cast of “Emilia Perez”, which will most likely sweep the Oscars.

Gomez was snubbed for a nomination, but I’m sure she will speak when the film collects Best Picture.

That was the topic of conversation at the beginning of our staff meeting at work today.

The fate of a lot of retirement plans rests on whether or not the Chinese are lying about not using Nvidia’s hardware.

There is more than one way to multiply a matrix using a computer.

If the Chinese are being honest, well, to borrow a quote from Shrub, “This sucker could go down.”

The Meryl Streep/Melissa McCarthy catfight last season is about the only time I think “Only Murders” really was as brilliant as the media claims.

Streep and McCarthy decided that the writers were to timid with the script and improved the scene themselves.

I hold really broad domestic stock funds in my 401(k) plans. I lost 0.25% today in those.

International and bond funds were up today as was the Geico Gecko, despite possible bad news coming at Apple this week.

For most people with their 401(k) plans, it is “In VIGAX we trust”. Even that is only down ~ 3% today, however.

Funny.  I thought it was headed to Mars.

  23. Ken Mitchell says:

I thought it was headed to Mars.

Musk’s Tesla roadster wasn’t aimed AT Mars, but just in the general direction of it.  It actually sailed past Mars and into the asteroid belt, before returning in its elliptical orbit to the vicinity of Earth’s orbit. I’m a little surprised that it came so close to Earth, actually.

“What is DeepSeek and why is it freaking out the AI world?”

        https://finance.yahoo.com/news/deepseek-is-making-wall-street-nervous-about-the-ai-spending-boom-heres-what-we-know-171821309.html

“The AI frenzy that has reshaped the tech world and commanded the attention of Wall Street took an anxious turn Monday after a Chinese upstart burst onto the scene, dazzling early users and sparking fears that US AI leadership is now under threat.”

“It wasn’t just the Chinese model’s performance that rattled American investors and executives. The team behind DeepSeek, the AI model maker, claims that the technology uses cheaper chips and less data than the popular American AI assistants that have captivated the tech elite and the broader public.”

“A foreign competitor offering a rival product at a fraction of the cost has thrown into question the exorbitant spending of American tech giants. And it has poked holes in the idea of US tech supremacy and innovation, at the cost of many of Wall Street’s most favored companies.”

“If the most expensive and sought-after AI chips aren’t as vital as previously thought, an entire ecosystem built around massive AI investment could be in jeopardy.”

I wonder if the entire DeepSeek program is written in C++ and thus significantly faster than the partially interpreted GPT ?

Multiplication of really large matrices has optimization possibilities which are not present at smaller scale. IIRC, CLRS, the standard for teaching undergrad Algorithms has a chapter on the subject.

I suspect the Chinese cheated, however, and had access to H100 chips.

  28. Nick Flandrey says:

Guys the chinese cheat at EVERYTHING.   They will not pay for substance or quality, only appearance.   They will cut every behind the scenes corner they can.

I wouldn’t believe their announcement.   Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

  29. drwilliams says:

    “I suspect the Chinese cheated”

    No!

    Ya think?

If I was really cynical I’d suspect that the news was accompanied by some strategic purchases in the stock market by Chinese entities…

  30. Ken Mitchell says:

some strategic purchases in the stock market by

Nancy Pelosi?  She just sold off a LOT of NVIDIA stock, and she might have purchased something else. And she probably has EXTENSIVE connections to the PRC military.

But I agree; the Chinese cheat, and spy, and copy, and steal. NEVER accept the face value of anything from the CCP or one of their agents or employees. I’m not suggesting that they CANNOT do original research; it’s just that that would be their LAST resort, only after theft or espionage had failed.

Naw, I have written quite a bit of assembler in my day.  Just too hard to maintain.  It is C++.

Also maybe a very custom version of an H100 like an H100 squared.

Develop software targeting an H800, and it scales to an H100 when available.

Lots of American companies buy the H800 for use in China by developers working there.

I also read that the company had a stash of A100, the previous generation IIRC.

Most people cannot out perform a compiler on x86_64 anymore.

Even the three letter agencies using x32 do it to have access to the x86_64 register set and instructions.
