It was 35 degrees with a light frost and calm when I took Colin out at 7:40.
Not much to report today. I did not go to Winston yesterday. Al visited Bob for me. He was alert and talking. The NG tube was still in. I called yesterday afternoon to talk to the nurse. She said the order was in to have it removed and start using the stomach tube.

Good news, and hopefully soon they can get him eating on his own.

Alert and talking is a major improvement.

    Good news!

A cool 54F here this am, but now even cooler at 51F. Humidity is high at 91%RH, but it looks like it will be a cool but beautiful fall day.

    Garden update:

Turnips and radishes have sprouted. Beets are doing well, 4-6″ leaves so far.

I’ve harvested one tennis ball sized grapefruit from the potted tree, and it was delicious. I’ve harvested one big grapefruit from the big tree but haven’t eaten it yet. Total production is 10 gf on the big tree, 3 on the small, with 2 big oranges on that tree. Lemon tree is starting to turn yellow but is not as prolific as last year. Not exactly enough to live on…but possibly a good start. If you want fruit in your garden, you need to get the trees in the ground and wait a few years. Get started.

Good news on Bob’s progress. If he’s communicating things will start moving much faster on his mental condition. Best wishes.

That is progress and good news.

From what I have heard from others that have been under anesthesia for extended time, as in more than about 30 minutes, the brain is really affected and is the organ that takes the longest to recover. Add in the strange environment, people poking, prodding, and otherwise being annoying (but necessary) it makes for a not so pleasant experience.

Add in going from being what one considers healthy and no problems one day to being involved in significant surgery within a few days has to be very unsettling. A hospital stay is fast approaching a month.

It will be interesting to read RBT’s first post when he gets home and is almost back to his normal self.

09:45 It was 32 degrees this morning. Thanks to my enforced downtime I have reevaluated my life and choices and have realized it’s time to make a change. I am taking an indefinite hiatus to work as a Grateful Dead roadie.

10:03 I was dismayed to learn that Jerry Garcia died and that the Grateful Dead, per se, no longer exists. I must think on this.

10:12 There is only one thing I can do: I am going to build a time machine and go back in time to when the Grateful Dead were touring. Catch you “later”.

10:13 I’m back after two exhausting but fulfilling years as a Grateful Dead roadie. What a long, strange trip it’s been! I’ll return to building and shipping kits after I’ve rested up from my working vacation.

What did you use to supply your 1.2 gigawatts of power?

two exhausting but fulfilling years as a Grateful Dead roadie

And your brain is still intact? Amazing.

A proposed bill in Congress would reveal the names of congressdouches who used taxpayer money to settle harassment suits. They would have to pay it back PLUS INTEREST. Wonder how many douches will vote YES?

Plus, another Franken accuser comes forward. How many before he resigns? I see Conyers is now going to retire. Writing on the wall.

“Stuart Smally”? Ain’t gonna happen. Franken will defend that seat like the proverbial mother lion defending her cubs. To paraphrase Bill Murray in “Stripes”, “He’s been kicked out of every decent job on the planet. He’s got nowhere else to go.”

lol! Conyers attorney is quoted as saying “How’s Conyer different than Franken”. That should get the fire burning under Franken. But, maybe it is just that Conyers is so old the Dumbo’s want to get rid of him anyway.

So if you randomly fire off a gun in San Francisco, you are not responsible for whom the bullet hits.

  17. dkreck says:

It’s the gun’s fault (and Trump).

    I’ve wondered if a housecleaning wasn’t underway.

The only way I see the Progs taking back the White House in 2020 is to go young and present a clear contrast to Trump. My money is on Gavin Newsom out of CA, but he has to focus on winning the Governor’s Mansion next year. You won’t hear much about Newsom until he’s ensconced in Sacramento.

  19. nick flandrey says:

Alex Jones (I know) thinks the deep state is getting rid of the media who couldn’t deliver the election results they wanted. So a type of housecleaning….

From the link in the original comment:

“For those who might criticize this verdict – there are a number of people who have commented on this case in the last couple of years; the Attorney General of the United States and the President and Vice President of the United States,” said Gonzalez. “Let me just remind them: they are themselves under investigation by a special prosecutor in Washington D.C. and they may soon avail themselves of the presumption of innocence beyond a reasonable doubt, so I ask that they reflect on that before they comment or disparage the results of this case.”

    The mind simply boggles.

Zarate is facing 16 months to three years on the gun charge, minus time already spent in jail awaiting trial. If there’s a positive aspect to this, it’s that he’s still facing federal charges.

Added: After he’s served his time Sr. Zarate would be wise not to stray outside California.

Zarate is an illegal alien. He will XXXX may XXX who knows, be deported again for the sixth time.

If I was the young ladies father, we might be having a talk at the prison gate when Zarate gets released. I wonder if the father would be convicted in San Francisco for shooting his daughter’s murderer ?

So, where is Dirty Harry when we need him ?

  23. Al Carnali says:

Yup. If it were my daughter it would become my life mission to put this vermin down.

    Good news indeed.

  27. brad says:

@Nick: I’ve seen that migration map before – it’s an amazing piece of work. It would be nice if they would update it with each year’s new information. For those of us not in the USA: I could dream of a version that let’s you set the country you want to look at.

In the end, though, I think the immigration is the secondary problem. The primary problem is “multiculturalism” – the fact that immigrants are no longer expected to adapt to the host culture.

  28. nick flandrey says:

“the fact that immigrants are no longer expected to adapt to the host culture.”

I’m not sure that would be enough after the Im Act of 1965 gave preference to non-white, non-europeans. The cultural differences are too big.

Add in a change in motives for immigrating- prior to that you must want to become “An American”. After, you just needed to want to LIVE in America, possibly only for a while, then return “home”. Completely different. (The ‘yearning to be free’ was often missing.)

Well, Franken hasn’t shown up at a meeting with the UAW and one with senior DC Democrats in his PJs. Not for secksual reasons, but because he’s in his late 80s and his brain is going……
