Fri. Jan. 25, 2019 – banana republic, or justice being served

By on January 25th, 2019 in Random Stuff

Cold and damp. Weather station is reporting 63F but there isn’t any way that’s correct. I still need to replace the batteries…

Headline today:

“Former Trump Advisor Roger Stone Arrested As Part Of Mueller Probe”

Over two years. Lawfare. I don’t know the truth, but I do know that HRC committed far worse crimes against the people of this country and will die of disease and bad luck before being brought to justice. An that ain’t right.

What did you do to prep this week?

I picked up a couple of things.

I got a Katadyn pump style pocket water filter, from the thrift shop. It needs cleaning and an o ring. It’s big enough that it will live here at home and one of the smaller hiker filters will move to the truck. Or maybe it will live in the truck.

Picked up a literal sack of accessories and plastic parts at a semi-permanent yard sale. Most were new in box, although the boxes were trashed. Very helpful to have a drawer full of parts.

Working on the food storage area. I’m putting everything in big plastic bins. It will keep down the effects of any further rodent problems (rusty cans, etc). I’m going to pickup some more bulk at Costco today. Ordered and received some augason farms #10 cans and some keystone meats to try. Took some paper goods to the offsite location. Maybe the new filter will live there…

Restocked some OTC products and some hygiene and cleaning stuff, bigger boxes, and more of them. Stacking them higher.

Signed up for another local cop class, this time with the city PD. If accepted, that should give me a bunch of stuff to think about. I already used the info from the PIP meeting to identify 3 apartment complexes that were hotbeads of gangs, drugs, sex, and murder. And found a couple of new to me online tools related to crime and police activity.

Looking back, I’m getting out of the house a LOT more, with actual contact with local .gov and services. I’m also going to fewer sales, but more thrifting. Hum…

Hospital called yesterday to see how my wife was doing. My wife was doing OK, moving slow, but moving. The wife said she was in pain and the hospital, damn their hides, said it would get worse and stay that way until Sunday. After hanging up the wife was barely moving and indicates her pain level increased and is taking the Oxycontin. I suspect this would not have happened if the hospital had not called. Maybe there is some legal reason they need to call but it set my wife’s recovery back.

Or maybe I am just being a donkey anus and this is really how it goes. I just find the timing suspicious.

Nothing so benign as that. It’s social pressure, telling a young man “It’s okay to feel like a girl. In fact, if you feel like a girl, we’re going to FORCE YOU TO BE A GIRL.” With that kind of social pressure, even slightly confused kids who would grow up to be normal, productive, happy fathers will instead grow up to be confused, unhappy, suicidal trannys.

@ray, I was surprised how effective regular tylenol was post surgery. I even took only the recommended dose, instead of automatically increasing it. It doesn’t ‘come on’ as quickly, and of course it doesn’t have the other noticeable effects, so I didn’t quite believe it was working until I did a self assessment.

Your wife’s mileage may differ, but I encourage anyone worried about opiates to give it a try. (assuming no liver trouble or heavy drinking. You really must avoid alcohol when taking tylenol or aleve.)

That said, if she needs pain management, then use the tools available. Possibly try half doses, or stretch the time in between. Talk to a Dr of course, as I’m not giving medical advice, just sharing my own experiences.

From a prepper standpoint, having some good painkillers around (stored securely) isn’t a bad idea.

RE: Opioids Pain Killer – When I fell off a cliff in California and broke my arm, my own stupid fault, I was given Hydrocodone to help with the pain. It was GREAT !!! When I was hurting so bad I couldn’t sleep of even think straight, those little pills made everything bearable. I would sit there in the recliner, I was unable to lie flat for weeks, and be a happy lump. I can see how people could easily become addicted to that calm, easy feeling.
BTW: When they rolled me into the ER right after the accident, they gave me morphine (my first time). It not only took away the pain but made me very happy. I was flirting with the nurses right in front of my wife. I didn’t care about anything. I believed that I had simply dislocated my shoulder and when they showed me the X-Ray of the very obvious break, I laughed. It seemed the funniest thing ever.
PS: I don’t drink. Not for a religious reason but as a pre-teen I tried and discovered I hated the taste. But in my late teens some “friends” decided to slip something in my soda. I got drunk. I discovered I am a MEAN drunk. I badly wanted to break things and hurt people. Turns my personality around 180 degrees. Opioids had a very different effect.

Same old thing — the schools get extra money for students with special circumstances, but they’ve diagnosed every kid possible with ADD and real problems like Aspbergers or Dyslexia. Its just the next thing to justify more money.

I’ve seen a lot of the T part of LGBT working in tech. It seems to correlate to a high IQ and ranges from simple clothing curiosities to full blown dysphoria. However, among the general population, I’d put the number at no more than 1%, probably a lot less. The schools should make sure the small percentage of genuine cases are protected from physical harm but certainly don’t need to be involved with dispensing drugs or pushing borderline cases over the line to justify a budget.

A common theme I’ve picked up talking to others about growing up in The South is that every decent-sized high school graduating class below the Manson-Nixon line has at least one full-blown dysphoria case. Maybe it is in the water. Our class had Kevin who became Laurie from what I understand. Interesting trivia — however it doesn’t affect me any more than the guy in our class who zero-pointed The Citadel, and he’s perfectly “normal”.

The secret to any pain medication is to take it BEFORE the pain becomes unbearable. I don’t mean before you feel any pain but at the first sign of pain.

You also have to be honest with yourself, is it “really” pain? Consider tracking pain level in your daily journal (what? you don’t keep one?).

I am a Type II Diabetic using pills and long-acting insulin. I have also been on a long term chronic pain medication regimen of hydrocodone (20+ years). I test my blood sugars three times a day (on waking, before lunch, and before dinner); I record my glucose reading, general feeling (okay, tired, hot, cold, agitated, mellow, stressed, etc.), pain level (1 to 10) and if it is general or specific. In between, I’ll also record my pain level and feeling if it changes before my next glucose test.

My doctor finds my record keeping invaluable in my diabetes and chronic pain management.

The whack-a-does who want to eliminate all pain medication (no it isn’t just opioids) use fake studies, just like global climate change. Sure there are people who have a problem with addiction (all forms: nicotine, alcohol, “drugs,” etc.), psychological and physiological. But why persecute the doctors who treat responsibly and patients who act responsibly?

The way things are going regarding medicine, I see the day coming soon that I do not have a doctor who I can call my own. I’ll be seeing some immigrant doctor (with a degree from some unknown school, who barely speaks English) and not only will I lose my pain meds, but I’ll also lose my effective Diabetes Treatment. Dirty little gooberment secret is they consider Diabetes (yes, even Type I) a self-inflicted disease unworthy of effective monitoring, treatment, and medication. This also applies to chronic pain.

    Onward through the fog.

  10. nick flandrey says:

WRT codone, family history suggests that we’ll all develop sensitivity to it, starting with the itchy feeling. I’m very careful to take minimum doses to preserve my ability to tolerate it when I absolutely need it (for cough.)

Dad was itching like a fiend before he passed. I didn’t know he was on high doses of hydrocodone or I would have addressed that.

Addiction to alcohol runs in the family, so I’m very aware of issues…

    Britain. NHS.

Psych standards for surgery are still pretty high in the US. My wife’s T patient in Florida had to go to Canada, and the transwoman who broke the 2009 strike at AT&T went to Thailand. Even the vaunted Bob Tur had to go out of the country.

Unlike the UK, Doctors in the US can still be sued for big money for misdiagnosis. Sometimes, there is an upside to that.

    Wait until Jenner starts suing.

  12. nick flandrey says:

I think kids being unhappy feeds into the trans nonsense. They have lots of reasons to be unhappy… addiction to porn, lack of physical contact, lack of emotionally satisfying relationships, addiction to damaging social media, broken families, poor economic outlooks, frustration with female dominated schools and teaching styles, the cognitive dissonance of the pc and diversity culture, constant SJW agitating, outrage culture, victim culture, whatever.

Then they are told that maybe they’re unhappy because of sex or gender issues. It has the added bonus of getting them attention and approval. So they give it a try. Then they’re stuck. Still unhappy, unable to go back to ‘normal’ due to the approbation and social pressures, so they push on farther and farther. People that get into extreme sexual behaviours often take the same path.

I think there is some other component too, chemical or biological. Maybe it’s Gaia’s way to reduce population size? Get too many people too close together and they start expressing non-reproductive behaviours?

    WA State

I’ve written before that my wife’s job outside Vantucky remains unfilled. The clinic attempts to compensate with nurse practitioners, midwives, physicians assistants, and graduates from The Phillipines. They also rotate students from the new WSU med school through the clinics.

They’ve tried everything … except money. God forbid. The senior partners like the class system just the way it is — they live on Prune Hill while newer partners can’t afford houses with luxuries like all bathrooms having plumbing connections.

Diabetes? The clinic tried a pilot program deputizing Fred Meyer pharmacists to monitor and prescribe things like insulin and birth control, but none of the remaining doctors signed off on putting their license at stake.

WA State is the future of medicine.

I also think anime is a factor.

Watching the shows with our kids one night, my wife and I half joked that any contestant on Ru Paul’s reality show is more masculine than the male characters on the Japanese cartoons.

I don’t think it is the original intent of the show producers as much as the dubbing “artists” here in the US. All the shows sound the same, and the voice actors have the range of the proverbial Daisy air rifle.

DadCooks I’ll be seeing some immigrant doctor (with a degree from some unknown school, who barely speaks English)
This is exactly what we found when we moved to the UK and were on the NHS. Our ASSIGNED doctor was a Pashtun gentleman who spoke no English. You could only see him when a translator was available and that was hit-and-miss. Several times we called to get an appointment for our sick kid but were told the translator was unavailable today so he will not be seeing patients. Like many locals, we fell back on our local “chemists” pharmacy to diagnose and treat simple illness with over-the-counter medicine. This doctor took my wife from a pre-diabetic to full blown Type-2 in a year with his horrible treatment. When we moved to Hong Kong, her doctor there, a wonderful English guy, told us that another year of NHS mistreatment would likely have killed her.
RE: NHS – I went to a London Dentist who told me that I was crazy to use NHS dental treatment. He said “You’re a Yank, go back to the US for a visit and get decent care” .

To SWAT an older man and his wife at 6AM with CNN cameras rolling is something that would make Joseph Goebbels proud. It was a production of propaganda by the Special Counsel’s office that turned FBI agents into modern day Nazis.”

Seriously, what’s next on the tyranny list?

-state runs indoctrination camps – any big city school district
    -zero tolerance laws

-state can kill your chattels and livestock without recourse (dog shootings)
-state can seize and search your personal items (any electronic device within 100 miles of a coast line or port of entry)
-state can demand ID before travel (TSA, CA/AZ “agricultural checkpoints”)
-party members in good standing can commit crimes with impunity
-state has weaponized law enforcement (see Roger Stone arrest above, and IRS abuses)
-state can access self installed surveillance (vizio, nest, ring, alexa, etc) 24/7
-state can track ALL online, and most offline activity with trivial effort, or by simply buying the info
-state can use your DNA and DNA of strangers to attack you

Oh how far we’ve come in just 10 years.

Roger Stone is guilty of being a political operative. This is 100% legal. These charges are two items:

    1. to continue punishing Trump for winning the 2016 election

    @Harold Combs #NHS

Wow. You appear to have had some pretty bad experiences in the UK – it is sad to hear about them. I am no great fan of the way in which the NHS is setup and operated, but my experiences and those of others I know, whilst in no way continuous perfection, are generally good (better than acceptable) standard. In particular I was surprised to hear about the non-English speaking GP, I understood that an English language test was a pre-requisite for practice and I have never heard of such a situation myself. How long ago was this experience – perhaps the NHS have improved their recruitment?

PS “The Immigration Act 2016 creates a duty for employers to ensure that all public sector staff working in customer-facing roles speak English to an appropriate standard. ”

The Daily Mail is hinting tRump will fold on the goobermint shutdown. Sad. I’m hoping he doesn’t. I’ll be generous in saying 799,000 of the 800,000 “employees” have no savings, supplies, etc. and have no intention of getting interim jobs. They’ll wait for tRump to “open” the goobermint for two weeks so they will get all back pay (probably some COLA to boot). A paid vacay in the end, with no end in site. Open it, close it, open it, close it. Why even come in when you are going to get paid anyway.

In case you missed it, Fox News flashed up Gingsburgs obit by mistake. Since she is making decisions from home, shouldn’t somebody check if it is really her? Allowing her to judge from home means she could be lying on a gurney for years. “Her left pinky moved! That’s a yes on abortion rights!”

A Goodwill tag is not “NWT”. A lot of sellers have not learned this.

Also, the bankruptcy and liquidation of the bridal chains and smaller department stores up north has dumped a lot of merchandise, particularly clothing, on EBay which may have inventory control tags but is far from new — floor samples, dead stock sitting in storage for decades, returns which were never processed. My wife almost got burned on something from one seller who would not back down that the item was “new with tags” even though it smelled like sweat.

Hiding something like that would require a huge conspiracy. Ginsberg has emergency appeal authority for a section of the country, and she must be reachable at all times. Some Republican state attorney would have broken the story by now if she was dead, especially that seat which has been political payola for the President in power.

I have no doubt that Fox and CNN got the obit packages freshened up and ready to go.

I recall a shooting death across the Rio Grande. Now a Mexican lawyer is trying to sue, or have the Border Patrol agent prosecuted in US Court. I’m not sure which amendment of the constitution the agent violated. How does it protect a non-citizen on foreign soil? Nancy? OCZ? Kamala?

  50. Greg Norton says:

And it’s time to tax remittances in order to pay for it.

We’ve discussed it here before. WalMart won’t let a Republican President and/or Congressional majority tax the remittances, and the Clintstones are beholden to Bentonville.

If Cankles doesn’t run, that leaves Robert Francis and Newsom as the likely nominees, and, regardless of their feelings about WalMart, both are sympathetic to the Mexican point of view.

I have been a Quicken user since about that timeframe. Was a beta tester for the product, their top tester for one release. But when MS came out with MSMoney I changed to MSMoney as it was a better product. When MS abandoned MSMoney I had to revert back to Quicken.

I don’t like the pricing of the new options. I really don’t want to pay yearly just to be able to download quotes. I think you can still download from financial institutions, but am not really certain.

I have not found anything better than Quicken for my needs. The GNUCash and Mint all fall short in my opinion. And I am no fan of having my financial stuff on their servers.

I wish I had picked up 2017 when I still could

I am running Quicken 2017. If you want a copy send me an email to rayt[four][three][five] at comcast.[fish catching device] and I will put a copy on my website that you can download. Not that I condone piracy, but the Quicken jerks are just being greedy so I feel no shame.

    https://raconteurreport.blogspot.com/

If not, well, no point in celebrating or aligning with the spiteful ‘ha ha’ s and never Trumpers.

If he did fold, and we’ll know in a month, then it really is time to do a bunch of things.

    Buy guns and ammo.
    Buy body armor.
Buy gold, ‘cuz the Dem tax and spend will inflate the F out of the currency.
Buy land, if not gold, you so don’t want a pile of cash, see also Venesuela.
Buy FOOD, TP, diapers and tampons.
Buy all the traditional wartime black markets small luxuries.
If you need something that is imported, buy lots of that.

No need to panic, but next month? I guess we’ll see.

I just saw on the local news that the Austin PD is going to try using vests instead of belts to carry their “stuff”. Because of back pain. Their job is soooo physical what with getting in and out of their cars.

They had a honcho for the Lake Worth PD (around Ft. Worth? No clue.) and he said his belt of equipment weighs 22 pounds and the vests really help. Ok, I bet they feel great in the Summer.

What the heck are the cops toting? They really need to haul 22 pounds of stuff? I can see a couple of pounds for a Glock and add on a couple more pounds for an extra mag and a walkie-talkie. Cuffs optional, ty-wraps mostly work and weigh nothing.

All of the cops in the news clip are what I would call “fat”.

When my back acts up it’s because I’ve been slouching in a chair too much and not doing any sit-ups or push-ups. Five of each a few days a week works for me.

But, still, 22 pounds of equipment?

    That’s a big Thanksgiving turkey.

Oh hey, Wheel of Fortune is on. Later.

  56. paul says:

Aesop may be full of processed bovine feed. But he usually makes sense.

I have land. Just paid the annual rent. But other than the rent, it’s all paid off.
Ammo, food, and “paper products” are always on the shopping list.

The article itself is a thinly-veiled, instantly-dismissable ad for the author’s services; the generally curmudgeonly comments on Instapundit reflect a great deal of hard-won experience.

    The HPD carries:

    Vest- not counted here
    Pistol, at least 2 magazines
    Taser
cuffs, one set, some of the guys carry two
    Radio
    bodycam
    mace- spray not pointy club
collapsible baton (asp or similar, optional)
    flashlight
    phones, dept issue, and personal

The belt is a double belt and is thick and heavy
the holster is a level 3 retention holster and is heavy
    full size pistol is heavy
mag carriers are leather, and heavy
    cuff carrier is heavy leather….
    mace holster is heavy leather
ALL their leather gear is surprisingly heavy

Sitting in the car with all that crap, and the vest is VERY awkward and does in fact hurt.

One of the benefits of doing the class is seeing the gear in use… and wearing some of it. It’s heavy.

I wore my IIIA vest, my G17, a retention holster, and NO extra mags. It was difficult to sit in my big Expy, crap was poking me in the back and kidneys, and the stiff vest was affecting my seated posture. Most of the guys have their cuffs in the small of back position, which constantly presses on your spine.

I’ve had jobs where I was carrying a multitool, flashlight, and multiple radios on my belt. 3 radios when I was in Vegas. It wears you down.

The .mil went to load bearing vests and suspenders long ago.

I’d vote for them carrying less, but I don’t think it’s possible.

    n

Added, many are also carrying at least a tourniquet, some a blowout or trauma kit too. And wallet and badge….

Ah, typical dumbocrat ! He is building street cred for the primaries. He will promise slums for everyone in the USA. Also known as PRCs, public residential complexes. And a chicken in every pot !

  63. nick flandrey says:

Thanks for the URL ! I seem to have a mental block on that one. Specifically, it is:
    https://raconteurreport.blogspot.com/2019/01/natzsofast-guido.html

“But what if, contrary to all historical evidence, Trump ultimately folds?”

“(And if he does, he does; I won’t be the last guy looking for the pony under the mountain of horsesh*t. I’ve noted multiple times the President Trump is “not my guy”. He’s just governed more conservatively than anyone since Coolidge, and played harder hardball than anyone since Andrew Jackson shot a guy for insulting him.)”

“This was his “Read my lips…” moment, and you can start planning for him to get ousted in the primaries, if he doesn’t simply resign and hand the whole sh*tball to Pence sooner. Or get impeached, tossed out, followed by cuffed and stuffed by the FBI Obama Holdout Brigade. Because I don’t see them letting him pull a Nixon and retiring to a quiet life of writing books and playing golf. They want his head on a pole.”

Yes, if Trump folds on the see through wall then he can kiss 2020 goodbye. And he can plan on an IRS fraud examination going back to when he was 15 years old.

  65. nick flandrey says:

Scott Adams has similar view to mine and Aesop. Trump ALWAYS starts out with the big demand, gets his opponents to focus tightly on that, and then settles for less but quite adequate demands.

Geez I hope that is the case.

As I understand it, genuine gender dysphoria is vanishingly rare – fractions of a percent. My impression is that a lot of people with mental problems – depression, or worse – grasp at the latest trend and declare themselves transgender. The suicide rates are massive, especially after transition, which may indicate that they thereby dig themselves a hole they can’t get out of. There ought to be nothing trendy about a severe birth defect. The people who have pushed to make gender dysphoria trendy have a lot of blood on their hands.

As far as societal acceptance goes: I’d like to think that people treat each other as individuals. If I work with person X, their sexual preferences and personal medical issues are not my business. Unless we become friends outside of work, I don’t need to know, and I don’t want to know. This also means that person X has no business shoving their personal issues into the workplace. I object to flamboyant gays just as much as I object to women who wear sexy dresses and tons of make-up. Neither has any place in the office.

WTF is Trump thinking, allowing the shutdown to end – even temporarily – without getting his wall? He chose this hill to die on; giving in now seems unutterably stupid. Also, he missed the chance to fire 800,000 bureaucrats.

  68. Nick Flandrey says:

he missed the chance to fire 800,000 bureaucrats.

–yep, this is a big miss. even just firing half, and then having them go thru the rehire process on merit would have been awesome.
