I got a bunch of little tasks done yesterday. Took down most of the Halloween decor, started moving Christmas stuff around. Then alternated thru about half a dozen little projects.
Did hit a couple yard sales on the way home from soccer. Got a burner phone for $1 to keep in the car. You can always call 911 from any cell phone, and that’s what this one will be for. Also got some safety equipment that I’ll probably flip, and a school calculator that I’ll def sell. I make pretty steady money finding TI 83 and 84 calcs for <$5 and reselling them for >$50. They are not cheap. I wonder if the parents selling them didn’t have to pay for them….
Yard sale season was very short this year due to heat and rain.

I store all the holiday decorations in plastic tubs on shelves high in the garage. A little of a pain t9 get to, hit makes great use of the space at the top of the 12’ ceiling in the garage. Put the Halloween decorations away and got the Christmas decorations down, since I had all 3 cars out of the garage yesterday. Christmas decorations are in the spare bedroom.
I checked the weather forecast, and Thanksgiving day looks to be in the 50’s, so I can put up the lights then. If it was forecast to be cold, I’d put them up today. I no longer care to put up lights with numb fingers….
Costco has a good Michelin tire sale going on. $70 off a set of 4, and $.01 installation, so that saves you $55. I got a set of 4 for the caddy for around $740 out the door. Not bad at all.

Make sure the burner phone is GSM (T-Mobile/AT&T compatible). Only recent chipsets support all the major US carriers, and vast portions of Texas do not have CDMA service (Sprint, Verizon).
Had those tires on the wife’s car. It’s a good deal if you can find what you want for your car in their somewhat limited selection. If you are picky about grip, life, and noise rating, you might not find what you need. But really that’s the story of Costco in a nutshell.

As a data point, Libby’s Sliced Mango in the pop top can is NOT a good candidate for LTS. One popped the top and fed rats, one just swelled up until the ends of the can are round…

An old iPhone 3G is still an excellent GSM phone for burner use if you see one around. I wouldn’t suggest using the Safari browser since Apple botched the security on all of the iPhone OS releases which support the hardware, but their stupidity doesn’t affect the usability as a phone. GPS map also still works the last time I charged/tested mine.

The pop top cans are def not good for LTS. The scoring is much thinner and an obvious weak point. The canned meat that I had fail about one month before expiry was also in pop tops.
One of the things I got this weekend was a Grundig FR-200 crank up radio. Covers am, fm, and SW from 3mhz to 24mhz. Works good, even though it’s not an expensive radio.

added- the grundig is a bit tricky to tune on SW, as there is a lot of play in the tuner and the scale is compressed. There is a fine tune knob, which helps. Pulled in Tennessee tonight fine, with only about 6 inches of antenna up. Too much antenna, and your local noise will overwhelm the DX station.

I have one of the first FreePlay radios brought into this country … 20 years ago?
AM tuning is very good, and the generator mechanism seems very solid. No shortwave, but AM is simple tech which will survive whatever happens with the possible exception of the FCC grabbing the bandwidth for cell phones like they did with analog TV.
FM too, but I definitely believe FM’s days are numbered.
