Fri. Oct. 12, 2018 – half way through…

By on October 12th, 2018 in Random Stuff

62F and 86%RH. I guess summer has ended.

Half way thru another month. Only a couple of weeks until Halloween (our favorite time to dress up the house.) I better add that to my list :headsmack

And then Thanksgiving, then Christmas, New Years, and 2019. Holy cow, it’s coming like a freight train!

So, what did you do to prep? We now have clear evidence that the Gulf can get a Cat4 with just a day’s notice (assuming the lie.) We like to say that the best thing about a hurricane is you can see it coming. Not sure that’s quite as comforting this week.

It’s hard to stay motivated, but something like a pop up hurricane should do it.

Playing fetch on all fours might seem like an unusual activity for an adult, but one man who identifies as a dog says it has brought him closer to his husband.

Tony McGinn, known as ‘Tony Bark’ to his friends, says he has been into animal role-play his entire life, and refers to himself as a ‘human pup’.

The 30-year-old, who was born female and is transgender, is supported by his husband and ‘handler’ Andrew who accompanies him to regular play dates with other role-players in their hometown of Los Angeles.”

    Cleansing fire.

Yep … I think Summer is over. Monday it was 75f at 6am on the commute. Today it is 45f and looks to stay well below 60f. Went directly from Summer to Winter, skipped Fall.

That scene isn’t as fringe as you would think. When I worked in Downtown Tampa, the Hyatt connected to our office building hosted an S&M vendor convention every year, and I saw plenty of ‘pups’ and ‘horses’ wandering through our lobby. And that was nearly 20 years ago.

How much longer must those of us who believe we live in the Constitutional Republic of the USA continue to ignore the enemy within. We can only “turn the other cheek” so many times, we have done it too often. “Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it.” Napoleon, Stalin, Lenin, Hitler, Mao, Obama (both), Clinton (both); to name a few.

I “shared” the above on my FaceCrack page this morning (A.F. Branco cartoon and my comment). When I went back 10 minutes later FaceCrack had removed it.

Just proves that I, and many others, are living in an illusion that maybe our Constitution still has meaning. We are too far gone. I’m glad I am in my end days, but I weep for my wife and children.

    Take another blue pill.

    From yesterday,

I’m hoping to leave my place of refuge on Saturday. I did manage to snag 60 liters of water and 4 each 5 gallon gas cans last night. Today I’m going to try to do some shopping for food that doesn’t have to be prepared. Alas, for all the talk of prepping on this site my economic circumstances of the last few years haven’t allowed me to create a stockpile, let alone have an off site cache.

@pcb_duffer, is there anything that we can do to help ? You are 720 miles down I-10 from me which is just too far to bring you stuff for now. Can I send you some money to help ? My email address that I check daily is LMC at winsim.com.

The pictures of the devastation are reminding me of Rockport, Texas where Harvey came in last year as a Cat 5. But my parents home 35 miles away in Port Lavaca just lost the leaves out of the trees, amazing. Of course, my parents home is made of I beams and concrete brick and is 30 ft higher than Lavaca bay.

  9. pcb_duffer says:

Right now I’m just waiting to leave, so I can make it to my home to check on the structure. The aerial photos available from NOAA don’t provide a lot of info.

The new Robert Francis ads really emphasize the “Bobby” meme, both in terms of the message delivered and the makeup job on the candidate hinting at the Kennedy family’s Addison’s gene.

Robert Francis is also back to pronouncing that other B-word with less of an accent.

  11. lynn says:

    From yesterday,

Um, I’ve seen how this movie ends….

The big argument against a gun confiscation is that the confiscators are greatly outnumbered by the gun owners. If even a small percentage of people resist the confiscation the confiscators numbers get depleted very quickly and they stop.

If the confiscator is a mass produced robot……….

Actually, the gun confiscators will use a staged process over several years:
    1. they will take the guns of the people on psychiatric drugs
    2. they will take the guns of the people who have someone in their household on psychiatric drugs
    3. they will take the guns of people living within 1,500 ft of a school or a church
    4. they will take the guns of the people living within a city limits
    5. they will take all of the guns left

    @nick, I am speechless:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-hz-vjnfI8

So, all I have to do to be transgender is to say I am so. Obviously that woman claiming to be a man is still a woman. If she were a man then she would not be wearing a sports bra, she would just go topless. Actually, if she really wanted to be a man then she would get her breasts removed.

You know, I find this behavior offensive. My wife went through hell to keep her breasts during the stage 2b breast cancer at age 47. She ended up having a mastectomy and her right breast rebuilt out of her stomach skin and fat. No nipple. She wrestled with just getting both breasts removed but being a 34C since age 14, she was not ready to change her look and balance that much. Plus the scarring on the right side is horrible (35+ inches of scars). She did not want that on the left side. But she is resigned to the cancer coming back soon as she is 60 now. One of her aunts had breast cancer at 45 and 65 so she is convinced that it will come back in the left breast by age 65.

We are reaping the wind here in the USA with this crazy behavior. One wonders what comes next ?

  15. Harold Combs says:

Exactly !! Like being Gay, there is no objective trait or marker, no gene, nothing but your attestation that you are. So when they start handing out the special rights and goodies hop in line. No one is allowed to tell you you are not whatever you say you are. where you can be anything you want to be

As the joke goes, you can identify as trumpsexual, just to trigger leftards.

I told one person that my personal pronoun is “Trump is my President” and they had to use it or be guilty of hate crime, but it didn’t come to anything. Strange double standard, eh? They can make up any arbitrary string of nonsense words and declare it must be respected, but they are not willing to do the same for others. Shocking, totally shocking.

Cool ! Sounds like you are much better prepared than I thought. In fact, having a bug out place that you could reasonably reach in the mass confusion is awesome.

Anyone who lives in a potential storm surge area MUST bug out if needful. Storm surge wave action will take down just about any building. And if your building does not get taken out by the storm surge, your neighbor’s building might get taken out and take your building down. Even buildings on tall piers are subject to this.

There’s more than a little danger in invoking the Kennedy memory on the national stage. A farily accurate “Chappaquiddick” film got made, and Gillian Anderson as Marilyn Monroe in “American Gods” last season let loose a line about the actress’s death that never would have aired even a decade ago.

I am finally getting around to replacing the sales person who quit on me last week. I’ve now got ads in the local paper, our church marketing list, Craigslist, and our own website. Here is my website ad:
    https://www.winsim.com/jobs.html#softwaresalesassistant

What a pain ! I hate managing people. BTW, my office manager has closed two deals since the sales person left.

  27. paul says:

My prepping this week wasn’t much. I added a couple of cans of Spam, a couple of cans of green beans, and four boxes of Economax mac-&-cheese from HEB(*). I spotted a can of fruit cocktail oozing enough to stain the label but not yet dripping.

I need to check dates on the other cans, fruit cocktail is all I have had leak. Three cans so far, four cans to go. No bulging…

I put the windshield on the side by side.

I just buried the “dead thing”. Caught a whiff yesterday, saw buzzards circling this morning, and well, it was a cute little possum next to where I store the propane tanks for the grill. Fell out of the tree? The dogs were no help. Missy was acting casual and getting into the emu feeder when I wasn’t looking at her, Penny was eating fresh grass.

The pellet stove is ready. I just need to dust it off. Monday’s high is suppose to be mid-forties. It’s 80F right now. It was 58F the other morning and all of 71F yesterday. I think Summer is over.

(*) Economax is HEB’s bottom of the line. Below Hill Country Fare prices. It’s not in all stores. All of it I’ve tried has been good. The mac-&-cheese is up to 33 cents a box. It was 20 cents about three years ago.

  28. paul says:

Other than the whole moving to Sugarland, which ain’t happening, I’m out just for “College Graduate with a degree”.

  29. lynn says:

Other than the whole moving to Sugarland, which ain’t happening, I’m out just for “College Graduate with a degree”.

It would be a nice drive from Wharton. But your place would be a disaster.

The college degree is flexible. The office manager and I are discussing changing that to two years of college classes. Shoot, I’ll take no college if the person conducts themselves in a professional manner and works their a** off.

In the midst of all of this, the president of the United States taking time out to tell those two young daughters of Brett and Ashley Kavanaugh that your father is a great man? Every father wants to hear that. Every father loves having his children told that he’s a great man. Few ever are afforded that opportunity, but Trump did it last night.”

That’s all I know about what three stores carry.

Got my stitches out. I let it go a couple days extra. Which it turns out isn’t a good thing.

She had to dig around a little and (initially) missed one thread, but there really wasn’t any pain. Still lots of bruising though.

Set up some things for next week. I bought a safe and a 4 drawer fireproof file cabinet. The file cabinet is for things that shouldn’t burn but don’t need to be in a safe. Lots of little things in boxes. Getting them home will take special equipment and care. They are HEAVY and the seller didn’t put them on pallets. That’s just dumb. The trailer will be the type they deliver scissor lifts on, it lowers down flat to the ground with only a 1 or 2 inch lip. Pallet jack can maneuver around that no problem. Pro tip- fireproof file cabinets go cheap and are very heavy duty. They will easily hold all the stuff you need out of your safe to make room for good stuff. They often have a locking mechanism too, because if it’s important enough not to burn, it’s important enough to lock up. If you are moving anything heavy, a pallet jack and “lift bed” trailer are the shinizzel. (yes they are, some kids told me so.)

I take stitches out by myself. Yours being on the elbow would be a little more difficult. My doing so annoys the doctor but it saves me the trip and saves the doctor the time. Had many stitches while living on the farm and it was 15 mile drive to the doctor and thus learned to do it myself.

We had a no bedroom apartment lined with 50 of the things to keep the CYA paperwork to run several hundred Section 8 apartments at 6 complexes. Early in the century, purchased 4 more delivered as Nick showed to add to the pile. The book keeper spent the month of January purging ancient enough tenant files into locked wheeled garbage carts for commercial shredding. Still needed more room. Delivery day was straightforward enough even with removing fire doors for clearance and counting fingers after placement. Ground floor, slab on grade foundation. Gun safes are about the same trouble.

Half of my office time was spent with the deluxe Xerox machine generating the docs necessary for refinancing the complexes at the then low 7+% range. Filled a coupla double size banker boxes of nobody will read cr*pola. The owner/HUD contractor picked up a million $$ off the table after the refi and still left a half million in a roof fund.
