Tues. Oct. 9, 2018 – short week, busy week. Of course.

By on October 9th, 2018 in Random Stuff

76F and wet again. At least it’s consistent.

Now that our civil servants have had their break, we can start the week. I know I’ve still got work to do and now one less day to do it.

Who am I kidding? Not anyone here! My plan is to keep plodding along, in my somewhat diminished capacity. There are a couple of things that must happen on schedule, but most of the stuff will continue to slip.

Meatspace obligations for me and my proxy today. Special meeting of the HOA, and special meeting of my CPA cop thing alumni, both at the same time but 15 miles apart.

I think our HOA board is about to learn a lesson about life. They haven’t had to deal with ‘the mommies’ in a couple of decades as our neighborhood aged. They’ve gotten pretty comfortable running things the way they want to. But our neighborhood is turning over and the median age is dropping like a stone… and someone was very dismissive of some concerns shared by many of my neighbors, most of whom are younger, very energetic, and very high achieving ‘mommies.’ Today is a special single issue meeting. Next week is a board election that normally has several seats go unfilled. The mommies have a slate of 22 names and have been secretly getting out the vote. We’ll see, but I do not think the current board will survive much longer without some drastic changes.

All politics is local.

Meatspace baby.

Never mess with the mommies.

71f at commute time today (6am).
Forcasters say that tomorrow will be the change into fall. We have been having temps in the high 80s but after tomorrow we’ll see only the high 60’s with lows dipping into the 40’s. Time to shut down the AC and open the windows to air out the stuffy house.

I call it the Work-From-Home Mommy Mafia.

The Mafia is going to turn our Congressional district ‘blue’ this year electing MJ Hegar to replace the stiff Republican who has been there forever. Go watch Hegar’s YouTube commercials — WFHMM in action plus CA money (someone has to pay to license “Mr. Blue Sky”).

I’m not a fan of The Mafia’s tactics, but my experience with HOAs in Florida was ugly. As I’ve stated before, our HOA was run by the typical alcoholic pervert REMFs who staff the freak show commands at MacDill, either active duty or retired and working as contractors.

Murphy’s Law has a post about Kav that includes this awesome phrase–

“Today I wish I had a bunch of greeting cards that would wish everyone a happy Columbus Day from Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. So many heads would explode here that the rest of America would wonder who was making popcorn.”

And you could wash it down with liberal tears!

Seriously though, Oregon, WTF? Letting the antifa agitators get away with this?

Portland. The Willamette Valley is different than the rest of Oregon.

Back in Vantucky, my wife’s Prog associate and her husband chose to live on the OR side of the river. I wouldn’t doubt that the husband was involved with AntiFa these days.

During the 2010 election, the Prog husband did something so ugly in Fredericksburg that they not only left town but Texas as well.

The Daily Mail seems to delight in bad things happening over here. Drilling down to the local level in Portland smells like schadenfreude. Maybe the paper should spend a little more time on local UK atrocities committed by immigrant believers in “the religion of peace”.

  6. nick flandrey says:

It is in a lot of places besides DailyMail, which is unusual in itself.

Gotta remember dailymail is a tabloid, the more sensational the better. Over a long period of observation though, just like the scene in Men in Black, I’ve seen them cover and usually break stories that the other msm won’t touch. Forex-

search on Kermit Gosnell on dm gets 62 results and the majority of the articles are about the disgusting murderous freak.

Same search on CNN gets 36 results and 3 of the first 10 are about TEXAS abortion law, only 2 are about the murderer, and the rest seem to be about abortion in general.

It’s a shame that a british tabloid provides better and more relevant (if sensational) coverage of the US than the MSM does.

(DM had a correspondent on the campaign trail too, who asked good questions)

It looks to me that Amazon knows how to get a “quasi-government” organization to work on a “holiday”. The almighty dollar talks. I received two packages from Amazon, delivered by USPS on “Columbus” Day of all things.

It’s a bunch of BS that Amazon is costing the USPS money. The Amazon trucks come into the Post Office with pallets already sorted, so the boxes only have to be moved to the appropriate delivery trucks. My carrier says that they unload a minimum of 3 semi-trailers from Amazon every day (including Sunday). It takes about an hour.

Fall is officially here. Rain yesterday and today, totaling over a half-inch so far and looks like it will be an inch before the day is done. The irrigation water gets turned off tomorrow, so this good soaking rain is a welcome sign.

More real cougar sightings (not WSU types), this time on Bateman Island, a small island in the Columbia River. Bateman Island sometimes has some tasty homeless folks on it. Those cougars need to fatten up for winter.

Refurbishing some old laptop computers for some folks, I get about one done a day.

The flu has hit the Tri-Cities. One person already in the ICU. Have you have your flu shot. There are four types, be sure to the appropriate one for you. Us old folks need the double-potency quad-valent variety.

Sunday and holiday deliveries are sometimes handled by paid contractors driving USPS vehicles. At least, that’s what happens in Austin.

  11. dkreck says:

I suppose it’s impossible to get a USPS employee to work on a holiday for overtime.

I have a Ted Cruz sign in my front yard and wonder if that is safe.

We got two more Robert Francis signs in our neighborhood since the weekend (three now). And we got another Ted Cruz sign (four now).

When I lived in Athens, Ohio, a university town that is bluer than the Saxe-Coburgs’, the signs for Republican candidates were routinely removed from my lawn.

What made it funny still (this was just a few years after 9/11) was my landlord, who was most likely responsible. His last name was Abdella and probably of Lebanese or Syrian descent, and I doubt anyone had a clue that his original family name was probably Abdallah…

Vantucky! That’s a bad part of town regardless of how you vote, however. Anywhere close to I-5 between Portland and Seattle is a dystopia right out of a Stephenson or Gibson novel.

Trump was just an excuse for the locals’ normal antics. Park a newish truck in that neighborhood overnight like that guy did (kudos for recognizing he was too drunk to drive — most in Vantucky don’t), and bad things are bound to happen.

I saw a couple of “Behto” commercials last night. He makes a nice speech of how we are all Texans and yabber yabber yabber and let’s work together. Yeah. I’ve been hearing the same drivel since I started paying attention and well, I’ve not seen any of the glorious bull droppings happen in a noticeable (to me) way, ever.

Never mind the whole white guy trying to pass as a Mexican ploy. His open borders idea so the blacks don’t have to work at the cotton gins anymore is pretty funny, actually.

I saw one of MJ’s (whatever her name is) commercials and she strikes me as a loon.

    That’s all I have.

I don’t expect any issues. Last one 12 years ago was clean. Problem with the butt canal does not run in the family. Preventative stuff as one ages and always good to have the recommended tests and checks. They are recommended for a reason.

Unfortunately, her opponent is a Republican who didn’t know when to retire.

On the upside, in two years, she will get picked off easily, especially if the Progs pull off Impeachment.

Back from my ‘cop ‘ thing. Good to know the local constabulary. In this case, literal constable’s deputies. Since we pay the constable’s deputies directly for their service, they relationship is much more intimate, and they have a VERY clear idea of who they work for. I like the constables best.
