10:20 – Barbara is recovering nicely. She didn’t even bother to fill the hydrocodone prescription her doctor gave her. She’s making do with high-dose ibuprofen combined with mid-dose acetaminophen.

More kit stuff today and every day for the next couple of months at least. This is still early August, and the craziness doesn’t usually start until mid-August, as people get ready for the new school year. I’ve never figured out why homeschoolers, who can set their own schedules, almost all follow the public school year.

We’ll make time sometime in the next two or three weeks to do a Costco run down to Winston. We’ve started going on weekdays because it’s so much less crowded than it is on weekends. We’ll pick up a lot of meat, as usual, and stock up on other stuff we’re running short on. I also want to pick up several 50-pound bags of flour, sugar, rice, etc. and 30 or 40 pounds of oats. This time, we’ll repackage in the LDS one-gallon foil-laminate Mylar bags, which will be a lot easier, faster, and less messy than using empty 2-liter bottles.

Brittany has read the comments here about securing their LTS food against rodents. Her husband picked up some scrap sheet metal from his brother, and plans to use it to enclose their storage shelves, including building covered doors for the shelving. He’s working on that this weekend. Also, Brittany and Jen are now in contact with each other and exchanging emails and phone calls. Brittany and her husband decided to run a readiness exercise over the Labor Day holiday, so Britanny has been getting tips from Jen. Each of them is formidable. The two in combination are a force to be reckoned with.

One interesting thing I’ve noticed in these email exchanges I have with preppers is that, while they are evenly divided between men and women, the women tend to be a lot less public about what they’re doing. Also, although there are exceptions, the women tend to focus on food and the men tend to focus more on guns and other tools. I suppose that makes sense biologically. A couple million years of evolution has equipped women to think about feeding their families and men to think about protecting them.

That bastard OBama and his health plan. Applying for my wife, $730 a month. You have to apply and provide your income for the year 2015. The system does not take into account that you are no longer employed. Thus your premiums are based on what you are going to file as income for your taxes for the year. Meanwhile you have no job and your premiums are almost the monthly income from my part time job.

People that lose their jobs, have no other source of income, are just royally screwed if applying late in the plan year. If you have a family your premiums could easily exceed $1300. You then have a choice, food or health premiums (which with the deductible will not cover your initial medical expenses). Skip the premiums and get slammed on your tax return and now you have to deal with the IRS and seizure of your property. Skipping food is not an option.

The entire sucks, sucks big time. Those who don’t want to work, lazy shiftless assholes, will get all the coverage they need, all the food they need, all the housing they need, etc. Meanwhile a working stiff, who gets laid off, is royally shafted and will be in debt to the IRS for the rest of their life.

With such low income I am going to see if I can qualify for food stamps for the next six months. Might as well suck on the government tit.

You hear that Obama, you are an asshole, a fucking asshole.

Welcome to Obummer’s NWO, Mr. Ray. You may end up on the “use the ER for your healthcare” just like the crimmigrants.

I always fill the prescriptions. Even if I don’t need them. That way I have them when I do. Especially with opiates. They’re such tight-asses about prescribing them these days that it’s always handy to have some on-hand. If you ever wake up with a really bad abscessed tooth you’ll be thanking yourself for that bottle of spare hydrocodone in the medicine cabinet.

Thanks to the TSA the trend has been toward flip-flops as opposed to decent shoes you have to lace and unlace. I saw an interview with a guy that survived a crash landing and aircraft fire on a passenger jet. He said the lady seated next to him had her pantyhose melted to her leg. He then said, “I’ll never fly wearing anything but natural fibers after seeing that.” I suppose Nomex would be an exception to that. That’s what military flight suits are made from.

My sympathies, first of all, to Mr. Ray, for his hassles with ObolaCARE. We’re dealing with it up here, too, and the icing on the cake is the total clusterfuck web site stuff, which has been an utter disaster and cost VT taxpayers at least the couple of million the regime admits to. Wife can’t even sign up until January now, and it’s gonna cost us more than our car payment; if it was for both of us, it would cost more than our mortgage, but so far I have the VA for my stuff. And yeah, for a lot of fixed-income peeps, it’s gonna be a choice between eating or paying exorbitant med insurance premiums for even worse health care, while watching the FSA types and crimigrants get it all for nothing. This won’t produce much resentment, anger and bitterness, will it?

And on a sorta related note, i.e., government clusterfucks, we sure do need more strict gun laws and registration and all that good chit:

    http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/08/02/chicago-deadliest-july-10-yrs-gun-control/

So we can be like ChicagoLand, run by one of the former Obola White House capos.

You have to ask yourself after a while, if the rulers were trying to destroy the country and its regular citizens, how indeed would they be going about it differently???

  12. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

They’re just trying to make us all equal, except of course themselves and their buddies. And by “all of us” I mean not just US citizens but all of the world citizens. It’s so unfair that we’re rich and they’re poor, so our rulers will just take from us and give to the poor, of course while keeping a large percentage for themselves.

Of course, this is what Alinsky and the Frankfurt school intended all along. Obama is just their most recent disciple in power. But I think they’ve miscalculated. Multiply Ray’s story by the tens of millions of middle-class American citizens who’ve been raped as badly or worse than he has. Then consider that in the month of July people bought almost 40,000 new firearms per day. (More, if you consider that more than one gun can be bought on a single background check.) As Kurt Schlichter would say, that’s enough to arm two full infantry divisions EVERY DAY. Of course, only a fraction of those were AR’s, AK’s, and similar rifles, but even so.

Middle class white men can be pushed and pushed and pushed. We’re nice guys, but we can only be pushed so far. That limit has not yet been reached and no one will ever know where that line is, other than in retrospect, but when it’s reached, watch out. This is not going to be pretty.

  13. Ray Thompson says:

This won’t produce much resentment, anger and bitterness, will it?

Already has. The cost of insurance has jumped at least 50% in the last couple of years and the coverage has dropped 50%. Insurance companies are now having to insure loser drug heads, habitual smokers, people with completely unhealthy lifestyles. Those that could not get coverage and in my mind do not deserve coverage (or treatment). These losers who pay nothing are now running to different doctors every couple of days for the sniffles. When doctors will no longer see them they head to the emergency room at an exorbitant cost. But what do the losers care, it costs them nothing.

Jerks convinced Obuttwad and his minions that doing nothing to support yourself deserves the same level of services for those that work. And that lying pig Hillary wants to expand the program.

    Bitter? You damn straight.

I’ll second the comment about filling all prescriptions. Get it while you can. Save it for the bad times.

Especially while traveling, it may not be possible to get what you need when you need it.

    That’s double when SHTF.

    n

(think of all the reasons you might need a course of antibiotics or painkillers during a disaster, when prompt medical attention isn’t available. Chainsaws come to mind, but twisted ankle, strained back, puncture wound, bad cut, or other “minor” traumas are more common.)

  17. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

    @Ray
Health insurance companies have always insured smokers. It used to be that someone who smoked a pack a day or less paid the same as a non-smoker, because actuarial figures had long ago established that pack-a-day smokers had no more frequent or more severe health problems than did non-smokers. Insurance companies also did not rate pipe smokers, cigar smokers, or smokeless tobacco users, because all of those had the same health experiences as non-smokers. Except pipe smokers, who actually live longer than non-smokers and have fewer health issues. (That not because smoking a pipe is actively good for you; it’s because pipe smokers are self-selecting Type B personalities, who have many fewer heart attacks, strokes, ulcers, and other stress-related medical problems.

The real insult of Obamacare as far as I’m concerned is that anyone who uses tobacco at all in any form is singled out to pay higher premia. The actuarial numbers haven’t changed. And yet an alcoholic with terminal cirrhosis of the liver who’s also a heroin addict pays the same amount as the cleanest risk, while I pay much more because I smoke a pipe. That’s simply wrong, and is the wrongest thing about Obamacare.

Insurance used to be run rationally. Teenage drivers paid high car insurance rates because they were much more likely to wreck their cars. Men paid higher life insurance rates because we die younger than women. Women paid higher health insurance rates because they use medical services much, much more than men do. What we have now with Obamacare isn’t insurance. Forcing insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions is like forcing a fire insurance company to issue coverage on a home that’s already burning down.

  18. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

Barbara already has some hydrocodone in the freezer, from an earlier prescription she didn’t use. The problem is that the prescription she decided not to fill isn’t for hydrocodone; it’s for 5 mg of HC combined with 375 mg of acetaminophen. That’s just about worthless, and acetaminophen is so toxic that I wouldn’t take it under any circumstances.

If the SHTF big-time, I’d be making my own opiates from P. somniferum anyway.

  19. MrAtoz says:

I love baked ham with tons of whole clove stuck in it while baking. MrsAtoz uses almost a whole bottle.

  20. Nick Flandrey says:

I have low dose and higher dose prescriptions, and I start with the low dose. You can build a tolerance to it, with some unpleasant side effects, so minimizing dosage is important.

With the tylenol added it’s Vicodin IIRC. Various strengths in various combinations help them get around patents.

Still useful, and the toxicity is manageable unless you are an alcoholic or have liver disease, from what I’ve read.

Normally, I wouldn’t have it in the house due to the overdose potential (if you don’t treat the overdose immediately you are doomed to a slow painful death.) However, there are risks with aspirin and young kids that outweigh the overdose risk for now.

YMMV of course, but it’s not expensive and it is useful.

The “Concord Moment.” Or, the Tipping Point. We may not even know we’ve reached it until after it happens. But it’s coming. Because they evidently won’t stop pushing. As is their wont, if a caper fails badly, they’ll double down on it.

And as one of the commenters pointed out at the Weapons Man site, yeah, the top echelons will end up swanning back and forth between their Mordor offices and their fortified bunkers in VA and WV but gee whiz, they probably gotta do it in choppers and that can be problematic. As can travel by road or rail. As MrAtoz and I can attest, choppers are tricky beasts and vulnerable to ground fire at some point.

Thus your premiums are based on what you are going to file as income for your taxes for the year. Meanwhile you have no job and your premiums are almost the monthly income from my part time job.

I thought that you calculated your expenses during retirement ? Is this an unexpected expense ? Please note that I am not taunting, just interested in the costs of being retired before the age of Medicare (65).

As you probably know, I am an advocate of Medicare for All citizens in the USA. I am direly concerned about the availability of emergency rooms which are slowly dying due to non-payers. The rule of thumb that I have seen is when the non-payers hits 80%, they close the ER.

  28. Ray Thompson says:

I thought that you calculated your expenses during retirement ?

I thought did. It was based on my not having any income. Little did I know that the obuttwad care factored in your income for the year, not your current monthly income. I should have gone through the entire process of applying except for the final phase of submitting the healthcare selection.

Medicare is not an issue as I knew what those costs would be. I will have to pay my premiums until I apply for SS which I was originally going to delay. Now I am going to apply as soon as I turn 66. The spousal unit will be 62 at that time and we will apply for her benefits (half of mine minus 25%) at that time. Her benefits will cover the cost of her health care.

note that I am not taunting

Understood. Knowing what I know now I would have postponed my retirement until the end of the year. I am now facing another deductible and maximum out of pocket which have already been met by my employee health insurance. Choosing a new plan basically resets the clock on the deductible and maximum out of pocket.

interested in the costs of being retired before the age of Medicare

My advice would be to wait until you are eligible for Medicare and only get get Part A which is mandatory. Let your current insurance cover you until the end of the calendar year you turn 65. Then you need to factor the costs of Medicare Part B and supplemental insurance verses staying with your current group health. Part A there are no premiums. Part B requires premiums. When I start drawing SS the Part B premiums will come out of the SS money.

But do wait until the end of the year so that you don’t have two deductibles within the same calendar year.

I also don’t know what is going to happen during the open enrollment period which starts November 1. I guess I will input my best guess of my income for 2017 even though I won’t have SS until the first of March.

I also don’t know if I will get money back on my taxes for those months with no income because I will have overpaid the premiums. I suspect not because the premiums seem to be based on yearly income, not monthly. Thus if you get laid off on March 1 you are screwed for premiums for the rest of the year. You don’t have money because you are not working but you have premiums that you have to pay or coverage is dropped. Then you get fined for not having coverage which causes the IRS to demand money from you, money that you don’t have.

It truly is a fucked up system, designed to benefit those lazy scum who don’t want to work and just sit on their asses.

  30. Dave Hardy says:

Listen, Ima just gon boil it all down right here:

    “you are screwed”

Dat’s right, sportsfans. The whole fucking system is rigged against us. There are certain things we can do to fight back and resist and so forth, but the main institutions, like health care, law enforcement, the economy and jobs, etc., are all under the thumb of the rulers; the so-called culture war that the evil Pat Buchanan mentioned at the Repub convention in ancient times, for which he was viciously excoriated by his own half of the Party, has long since been lost. Hearts and minds, people; like that even more ancient Jesuit said, once they get us as kids in the skool systems, they have us. Few are able, evidently, to bust out of that later.

We make a mistake, though, if we shift our blame and anger to the lazy FSA bastards who refuse to work or assimilate or act like adults; that is playing right into the hands of the rulers’ game: “Let’s you and him fight.”

Our anger and our eventual retribution should be directed at the people who enabled and facilitated this state of affairs and we all here know full well who they are.

RE: Safe Air Travel – Back in the 90’s when I would fly out and back every week, a colleague who did the same, was in a crash in 1991 on USAir 737-300 in Los Angeles, CA. His USAir flight was cleared to land on a runway which also had a Skywest Metro III on the runway awaiting takeoff. The aircraft collided and burst into flames. Two of the six crew members and 20 of the 83 passengers on the USAir jet were killed. He told me that after the airplane had come to rest he jumped out of his seat and pushed his way to the nearest exit. He said that there was time to get all passengers off before the flames got too bad but so many were looking in the overhead for their carry-ons they blocked the aisle and prevented evacuation. His good advice. Always know your nearest exit. If you survive the impact, don’t look for your carry-on, but rush for the exit.

  35. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

I think of a “real” conservative (Goldwater) as being almost indistinguishable from a classical liberal or a libertarian. There are a huge number of us out here, but we haven’t had a political party to represent us for a long, long time.

But those guys chose Trump, who is a first rate maggot. Why couldn’t they have chosen a normal conservative or libertarian?

I think Trump will be just fine as President. I mean, look at how well Congress and the Senate have worked with Obama? And to some extent, with Shrub.

Trump may be balls deep in the Establishment but he has not made being a politician/leech his career.

I’m going for the business man.

Professional politicians seem to do nothing but line their pockets. Term limits would help that…. two term as rep and two as senate and done… sixteen years in DC plus maybe eight if one makes President is plenty. Er, and cut their pay.

I’ll find out soon enough. I usually get about $300 for my refund. I worked at HEB for almost twelve years and other than going for a check-up I never used my insurance. On top of being treated like I was wasting their time, I had to pay $80 or so for “my share” of the cost. No telling what they hit BC/BS for.

Champus or some such offered to extend my HEB insurance for six months at a bit over $500 a month. Dental was extra. Uh, yeah, three grand out of savings to pay for something I don’t use. That didn’t happen.

  39. Dave Hardy says:

Why oh why do you even CARE??? You live in Oz! Where the country is ruled from afar by a queen in her dotage (from a German family that landed there centuries ago) and locally by a cabal of commie sons of bitches who’ve disarmed you all and left you defenseless.

The system here, as has been explained ad infinitum, ad tedium, is rigged against us, totally. A slate of “candidates” is produced for us, just like in the old Soviet Union, usually all corrupt psychopaths, and then we’re supposed to “do our civic duty” as one of my brothers exhorts the rest of us to do, and continue to acquiesce in our subjugation, all just a charade. We go through this hoss chit every four years and it’s a big media circus and hoopla amounting to less than a hill of beans.

I figure this one is a little more entertaining than previous elections and that something will happen to Trump (current nooz balloons being floated that the Party is desperately looking for someone else to automatically lose against Cankles at this late date, or any date for that matter), and the Electoral College, so-called, will annoint her as our next National Administrator.

Whereupon she will double down on everything Obola has done to destroy the country until such time as she completely falls apart, mentally and physically, because she is well on the way. Her husband will croak before she does, though.

But I don’t see why anyone in Oz, or New Zealand, or Paraguay or Madagascar or Singapore would give a blind rat’s ass about our stupid charade.

They care because we give almost all of the countries in the world bennies.

The USA should be getting tribute from the rest of the world. Instead, we are giving them all dollars and stuff. It is the craziest thing ever and mostly dates back to WWII. For instance, Jimmy Carter added a big pair of benefits to Egypt and Israel. Jordan may get a piece of that bennies package also.

  42. lynn says:

And, the USA Presidential election is the most fascinating thing that the world watches every four years. They cannot believe that a person will voluntarily leave power without being forced by gendarmes, civil war, etc.

  43. Dave Hardy says:

“They cannot believe that a person will voluntarily leave power without being forced by gendarmes, civil war, etc.”

They leave because they’ve got sweet deals lined up for afterward, plus they get to keep the SS bodyguards and a veritable HOST of other Fed bennies at our expense, the life of Reilly for the rest of their lives. Larry Klinton has become a multi-multi-millionaire since he left the WH.

“Instead, we are giving them all dollars and stuff.”

“and stuff” includes the military hardware and software in a continuous financial shell game since the Good War, plus stationing our forces TO THIS DAY in Europe and Japan, so those countries don’t have to pay for or commit to their own defenses.

You bet it’s insane, but we ain’t the people making out like bandits from it and it’s us and our kids who get fed into the meat grinder in every war.

  44. SteveF says:

They care because we give almost all of the countries in the world bennies.

Bingo. If US pharma companies stop developing drugs, there goes 2/3 of the entire world’s development. If the US military stops defending others, there goes Europe and the Pacific rim.

  45. Miles_Teg says:

“Why oh why do you even CARE???”

Cuz I don’t want you ending up as particles in the stratosphere if Trump gets in and pisses Vlad the Impailer off, or for all your guns to be taken away and your being forced into HRC’s harem if she gets in.

Plus, for good or ill, what happens in the US impacts us all.

  46. DadCooks says:

This is actually many times worse than the report states, providers were required to accept a 20% and greater reduction in their reimbursements last year. So comparing 2015 to 2014 is apples and oranges. And there was a like reduction in reimbursements from 2013 to 2014.

  47. Dave Hardy says:

“If the US military stops defending others, there goes Europe and the Pacific rim.”

I propose that we no longer give a blind rat’s syphilitic ass about the world’s “development;” they’re on their own, assuming we still bother to carry on free trade with those willing to do so on a level playing field. And buh-bye to Europe and the Pacific Rim, too; they will have to learn to stand on their own feet, though it’s probably too late now for Europe, whose rulers in the western countries betrayed them and let in the waves of savage barbarian scum to pillage, rape and murder.

Of course we’ll have to re-learn how to manufacture our most important goods, but we’ve also got the gigantic advantages of our natural resources and two oceans to forestall conventional warfare invasions. Put the subs out there and run orbital satellite weapons platforms to immediately eradicate any entity who messes with us.

We’ll also need to start cleaning up here, with the massive reductions in the Fed state and all the little state feds and booting out illegal crimigrants, BLM agitators, commies, SJWs and progs, or give them the choice of hard labor battalions repairing and maintaining the national infrastructure. Five years service with mandatory citizenship classes and they can be restored to full citizen status. And there goes most of the college and university humanities and social “science” departments, most lawyers, financial speculators, lobbyists and other parasites, too.

“Cuz I don’t want you ending up as particles in the stratosphere if Trump gets in and pisses Vlad the Impailer off, or for all your guns to be taken away and your being forced into HRC’s harem if she gets in.”

I’ll take my chances with Trump and Prince Vlad the Impaler. And they’ll take my guns from my cold dead fingers, podner. HRC is not interested in men as sexual partners and it’s kinda doubtful that Larry ever did anything along those lines with her; quite obvious who Chelsea’s dad is.

“Plus, for good or ill, what happens in the US impacts us all.”

Naw. Y’all need to water yer own gardens and let us fix up ours. We wish you the best, y’all, but we got to get busy here in the next few years and decades.

You know, I do not know what would be a worse death. To be impaled, to be forced to sit on a sharpened stake that slowly moves through your rectum up to your brain ? Or to be impailed, to be forced into a pail by breaking your bones until you fit inside of the pail ? Ugh.

  50. Nick Flandrey says:

Many of those things can be cleared up by just stopping the payments.

Illegals will stop coming if there is no way for them to get money home and no freebies for them here. 95% tax on cross border money transfers. Use the funds for immigration enforcement. They’ll leave in droves. It’s a truism that it’s easier to be poor in a poor place, where you have people you know.

Stop paying for college. If everyone paid their own way, the enrollment would drop like a rock, and prices would follow. Focus would return to majors that had a decent chance of paying a living wage.

Stop paying people to sit idle. Work or starve. Lots of hard labor jobs gonna be open when the illegals go away. Minor children get a pass and can eat barely nutritious food as long as their grades stay up. Parents get no aid without being sterilized chemically or mechanically. Can be reversed on the public dime once they’ve had 5 years off the dole.

Stop paying hostile countries bribes. Drop rocks on them from orbit if they get out of line. We need foreign bases to support force projection and intelligence gathering. If you are going to respond to aggression with destruction, you better be sure you know who to drop the rock on. So let the host country pay for the privilege of our defense and our bases.

Stop funding any unconstitutional agency, bureaucracy, or regulation. Whole lotta useless people will be available for those hard labor jobs the illegals won’t be doing. Some of them might be salvageable.

As Pournelle says, when you pay for something you get more of it. STOP paying, and it will go away.

I propose that we no longer give a blind rat’s syphilitic ass about the world’s “development;” they’re on their own

Well, yah, but I was explaining why they cared, not why we should care if they care.

Suffocated between Cankles thighs while your nose is buried in her vertical smile?

And here’s yet another huge surprise:

    http://freedomoutpost.com/the-list-of-establishment-republicans-that-say-they-are-voting-for-hillary-clinton-is-staggering/

With about a third of them possessing the surnames we’ve long come to expect. Neocon crypto-Trotskyites.

  56. MrAtoz says:

So let the host country pay for the privilege of our defense and our bases.

tRump has basically said this. It’d be cool if he got elected to see if he follows through.

I got “through” right this time. 🙂

  57. MrAtoz says:

The funny part of the Neocon’s is they say they’ll vote for Cankles. Are they just saying that or will they actually vote for that pus infected snatch tank.

  58. Dave Hardy says:

Your guess is as good as mine; they’re all psychopaths and professional liars, so there’s that to consider.

  59. MrAtoz says:

Keep that up, Mr. Ray, and you might not get a prepper Unicorn from Cankles. You know, the one that shits cheeseburgers! You’ll only get Skittles (point for Trayvon mention) from it’s arse.

  60. MrAtoz says:

Did Cankles fuck up. Seems the audience didn’t care. They must all be rich!

“Because while Warren is standing up for a fairer tax code, Trump wants to cut taxes for the super-rich,” said Clinton. “Well, we’re not going there, my friends. I’m telling you, right now – we’re going to write fairer rules for the middle class and we are going to raise taxes on the middle class!”

Presumably a slip of the tongue, Clinton’s comment came amid broader Marxist-themed demagoguery about forcing “the wealthy” to “pay their fair share” of taxes.

Yet, the libturds say tRump is mentally ill and unstable.

  61. Dave Hardy says:

“You’ll only get Skittles (point for Trayvon mention) from it’s arse.”

But if he apologizes profusely for his hatefulness and grovels enough, he’ll get some purple drank wid his Skittles and a nice new iPhone.

    “…Presumably a slip of the tongue…”

This is known as a Freudian slip and probably represents her true intentions, i.e., continue to rob and destroy the middle- and working- classes and skim off as much as possible for herself and her criminal cronies.

As I’ve said before, Trump, by comparison, is the very picture of health, physical and mental, so far as I can see; his spiritual health is his own concern. And when we hear libturds accusing us of anything like that, it is usually what they are guilty of or suffer with. This is a characteristic function of what Ann Barnhardt calls “diabolical narcissism.”

  62. SteveF says:

faux pas – n – When a politician accidentally tells the truth.

  63. Dave Hardy says:

    could also be:

gaffe –n– a social or diplomatic blunder

i.e., she didn’t mean to blurt it out like that, but she’s a fucking mental case and it spilled and now peeps got the straight scoop for once. This could cost her. Thus, blunder.

Figure on, say, 10,000 in each of 20 “red” states. Maybe 95% young musloid males. How’s that grab ya?

No red states in the Northeast, so that means Flyover Country. Title of the book by Dana Loesch I just got today. Review later.

Very few notice the connections, evidently.
