It was 27 and snowing when I let Colin out at 8am.Looks like we’ve had roughly 6 to 8 inches so far with more falling today.

I actually talked with Dr. Lee this morning. He was in the unit when I called to check on Bob. The MRI and CT showed Bob had some mini strokes but Dr. Lee said not to be concerned. He is waking up, following commands, and wording yes and no answers.

My wife’s aunt had a number of mini-strokes and outside of totally freaking her out, there was no degradation of her abilities. Scary stuff and certainly cause for concern but not necessarily the end of the world. Let’s hope the worst is over and Bob get’s out of the hospital and back to a normal life quickly.

And where the hell is OFD?

  2. DadCooks says:

Prayers and hope for Bob and Barbara. These are signs of progress.

The absence of OFD is getting beyond the worrisome point. I hope that this is not a sign that he has become completely paralyzed. Too bad his “wife” and “princess” do not have a clue that OFD has a large online following that is concerned for him.

My prayers are for you and Bob, Barbara.

And, yes, give us a shout Mr. OFD. Just to let us know you are OK. I hope you are just dealing with PT and reading a good arcane book on Medieval History.

News sounds encouraging. Hoping we see steady improvement and that (having suffered abrupt cognitive loss myself) that his mind recovers first and fastest.

Barbara is probably running $90 – $120 a week in gas with the Sparta – Winston commute.

Today I am mailing a gift card to the Sparta address she can use to fuel up.

Tangible support is as important as emotional and spiritual support…

A hand wringing article in today’s daily rag over Alaskas high school graduation rates compared to the rest of the country. They gloss over that GEDs and greater than 4 year graduations are excluded. They ignore the folly of comparing apples to oranges of disparate graduation requirements and what the high school graduates are actually capable of upon graduation. Poorly written piece of drivel intended to wring more dollars for an ineffectual system designed to inculcate its hapless victims in the finer points of socialism.

There’s a reason our child is in a private school that shares our core values, runs on a shoe string, and has little bureaucracy to ruin its students or teachers.

Hang in there Barbara, things will get better, I’m sure of it.

Had a meeting in meatspace this am. Joined a hobby club. Met a bunch of people, mainly older white males, but a couple of others as well. The club is a lot like ham radio in demographics, and I was pleased to see a folder marked “guns” on the presenter’s laptop bookmarks. Too early to tell if there are LMI in the group, but it can’t hurt to get out of the house and away from the keyboard one morning a month.

This am dawned with ice on the buckets and frost on all the roofs, but it’s a very pleasant 61F with a sunny clear blue sky.

I am feeling a kidney stone moving around, so I’m gonna eat some painkillers and go lay down,

They will when they receive this letter, which is in today’s outgoing mail:

    Dear Mrs. Hardy,

I’m what may be described as an “Internet acquaintance” of your husband Dave. Both he and I follow the web site Daynotes Journal, located at

    http://www.ttgnet.com/journal/

In his comments there he described his back problems, the resulting operation, and the early stages of his subsequent rehab. You can view his comments at the link above, posted under either “Dave Hardy” or “OFD”.

Dave’s most recent comment was as OFD on November 29th:

He’s posted nothing since, a situation that has many of the long-time followers of the blog, myself included, quite concerned.

If you could spare a moment to send an update on Dave’s condition, either directly to me or, preferably, via a comment on the blog, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance.

    Sincerely,

Very nice letter medium wave. Hopefully we’ll hear something back from her.

  8. SteveF says:

Thanks, medium wave. I’m not a worrier by nature but will admit to getting a bit concerned over OFD’s silence.

Considering some of the remarks Dave has made about Princess, hopefully Dave won’t be in for too much of a beating when Mrs. OFD discovers he has a whole ‘nother life here on this blog! 🙂

Another step forward for the X37-B program. Landing on the shuttle runway at Kennedy will be critical for “launch on demand” capability.

Thanks medium wave, a very good letter.
    Nice letter. Thank you.

    Y’all are very welcome!

ISTR OFD saying that his better half sometimes ignores the incoming mail. Let’s hope she’s gotten past that.

Reputation backfire: One of The Punk’s friends is sleeping over tonight. The girls were in my daughter’s bedroom, talking and giggling. Normally staying up late on a sleepover wouldn’t be a problem, but they need to get up early tomorrow, so I told them that if they don’t shut up and go to sleep I’d drag one of them out of there. They assumed I’d grab one by the ankle and drag her into the guest bedroom; didn’t occur to them that I wouldn’t do exactly that.
