By on February 28th, 2016 in personal

12:11 – It’s a beautiful day today, with sunny skies and a forecast high around 60F. Barbara is cleaning house. I’m finally set up with a working computer and printer in one corner of the dining room, where I can do routine stuff like mail, web, shipping kits, and so on. I’ll still set up my desktop system in my office downstairs, where I’ll do most of my heads-down writing work.

In the next couple of weeks, we’ll be starting some seeds in pots. Mostly herbs. Our average last frost is in early May, so we’ll be able to give seedlings a two month head start in pots before transplanting them in mid-May. Our deck gets lots of sun, and it’ll be easy enough to bring the pots indoors if freezing weather threatens. Actually, some of them may live in pots year-round, especially the herbs.

It’ll be a while yet before we start doing seeds in pots; our last frost is a bit later than early May, usually.

We may have a real bad mess on our hands this year.

The shit hits the fan in SLC:

A police officer shot a 16-year-old boy when he refused to drop the broomstick he was holding in Salt Lake City last night.
The officer was responding to an unrelated call in the Utah capital at 8.15pm when his team spotted two teenagers arguing with a man, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.
Surrounding them, police allegedly told the boy to drop what he was holding – part of a broomstick.
When he did not, ‘shots were fired’. The boy was hit in the chest and the stomach.

    More fuel for BLM turds.

    And for Mr. OFD,
lady cop killed first day on the job on a domestic disturbance call:
An Army staff sergeant assigned to the Pentagon has been charged with shooting dead a rookie police officer and his wife.
Ronald Hamilton, 32, is being held without bond accused of shooting dead 29-year-old Officer Ashley Guindon after she and two coworkers answered a domestic violence call at his home on Saturday evening – her first day on the job.

I guess it was time to for pay back to WHITEY! Way to make the military look like shit. I wonder it the libturds will scream about the military or have sympathy for the poor Black Man suppressed by WHITEY!

  3. OFD says:

Part of a broomstick, eh? Surrounded by cops and shot four times in the upper body at close range. Based on that available info, I am again astonished. I took down full-grown adults with pool cues and bats all by my lonesome with no backup coming for a while (every second feels like a minute and every minute an hour). Never shot anybody (came within a nanosecond three times) or killed anyone. In rougher ‘hoods than that one. Like I say, the Default Setting now seems to be immediate lethal force. And right after that, protests, demonstrations, riots, whatever. Way to go, Officer Hero. You just put another black mark against yourself and ALL your fellow officers.

As for that domestic call and subsequent shooting of the officers; as y’all have heard from me before, those calls absolutely suck and are the most dangerous by far. I’d rather have gone to bank robberies in progress, biker brawls and fully engulfed house fires than the domestics, always a fucking problem, always a weapon or weapons in the house, always one or more parties on booze and/or dope. I’ll leave aside the question of deploying women police officers to what are the front lines here at home for now out of respect for the deceased.

Having spent 4 plus weeks of class on use of force issues in my cop familiarization class, that is indeed the default ending. The use of force continuum starts lower but ends there. And it ratchets up much faster and in places you wouldn’t expect. Non-compliance is trigger for escalation. All justified, all trained, all policy. And yeah, how the hell did it get to this?

    nick

BTW, we have the evidence and video out of TX that a biker brawl is actually pretty safe for cops, and they’ll sit around waiting for the cops to get to processing them.

  5. nick says:

    Speaking of–

    Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3466494/Family-baby-injured-raid-awarded-3-6-million.html

So the totally unnecessary no knock raid on a 2 bit drug dealer cost the citizens and taxpayers of the 3 counties involved $3.6 million. Better that it should have been taken out of the police retirement fund. Maybe if there were consequences the front line guys would put an end to cowboy shit like this.

And only one “LEO” was charged, and IIRC that was for a paperwork problem.

Think it will make anyone on the depts think twice?

    nick

“…a biker brawl is actually pretty safe for cops, and they’ll sit around waiting for the cops to get to processing them.”

That was also my experience over thirty years ago, too; except when the parties were too smashed to even comprehend WTF I was saying to them, or…….if their chicks got involved. Then things got real sporty real fast. I’d see gigantic biker orcs standing around getting cuffed by the other cops as one female would tie up four or five more cops as she swung the loose end of one cuff like a flail. And the vicious shit they’d do to other chicks, esp. the dyke couples. Make yer hair stand on end. Nowadays they’d just be shot immediately, of course.

    However did we manage?

His list is out of order. #4 first. The rest is crap.

Then apply #4 to the rest of the world. Hell, we have an entire hemisphere to deal with xxxx xxxx exploit. We will get browner to a point. Our version of English will change, but we will all be Americans.

    Monroe Doctrine, dudes.

The rest of his list is very slippery. What next, after getting rid of them sand-dudes and their churches? Catholic Churches? Voting rights for anyone that is not white male Protestant? Abortion clinics? Liquor stores? Ford Dealerships?

Bring all of the troops home. Let the rest of the world deal with their shit on their on. They are, hopefully, adults. We are not their parents.

WWI sure messed up a lot of stuff.

  11. SteveF says:

Let the rest of the world deal with their shit on their on. … We are not their parents.

Nor is the President of the United States the president of the world. If other countries want to become protectorates or territories of the US, let them apply and we’ll consider it. Otherwise, they can deal with their own problems, find another soft touch, or just die.

Bring all of the troops home.

I don’t agree with this part, though. If your soldiers don’t see combat from time to time, you have a potemkin military, like those of much of the world. It might be good for keeping down the peasants or bringing in the harvest, but not for much else. I’m not in favor of endless war for no purpose, but the troops need to spend time in the field and preferably come under fire once in a while if you want them to be worth anything.

This goes for the senior officers, too, especially the Pentagon-level brass. Hell, the Pentagon as a whole. Without some combat, they become just another bureaucracy subject to political whims and payola. As bad as the US military leadership is now, it would be worse without combat knocking out some of the cruft.

Now, if you want to suggest that the US not have a standing ground military, just a Navy and a strategic-level missile/counter-missile force, I won’t argue.

  12. OFD says:

“Our version of English will change, but we will all be Americans.”

English changes all the time anyway, regardless. But the groups coming in now don’t WANNA be Americans; they cleave unto themselves and look with loathing and disgust upon our works here, while partaking of the benefits endlessly.

“What next, after getting rid of them sand-dudes and their churches? Catholic Churches? Voting rights for anyone that is not white male Protestant? Abortion clinics? Liquor stores? Ford Dealerships?”

Them and their damn mosques, popping up everywhere, including at Ground Zero. Good luck getting rid of us Catholics, though; there are 70-million of us here, including among SCOTUS justices and the Vice-President. Voting ought to be restricted, though; take a little quiz; I’ll gin one up in a jiffy. And be a citizen, and that includes people in prison, including felons. Yes, shit-can the abortion mills and Ford dealerships. Pronto.

“…the troops need to spend time in the field and preferably come under fire once in a while if you want them to be worth anything.”

Put them on our borders and coastlines. The southern border is now a de facto combat zone. Rotate them in and out. Yeah, put the perfumed princes of the Pentagon right on the front lines, too.

“Now, if you want to suggest that the US not have a standing ground military, just a Navy and a strategic-level missile/counter-missile force, I won’t argue.”

That is my desire. Secure our borders, coastlines, air space and sea lanes; maintain the nuclear force and if attacked by A: an identifiable group of non-state actors, hunt them down with Seals, Delta, organized crime, whatever, and kill them all, or B: a positively identifiable state actor, obliterate it from the face of the earth. Do either of these things a couple of times and that should be an end to the exterior mischief-making.

So, the Oscars are tonight. One of my brother’s friends is up an award for production design for The Revenant, Jack Fisk. He’s a great guy, married to Cissy Spacek and has worked on everything from small films to big deal films. He and Cissy bought a horse ranch in VA to get their kids out of Hollywierd.

  14. OFD says:

I always liked Cissy Spacek for her acting ability and honesty. Good move getting outta Hollyweird, too.

Best wishes to Jack, although I have not seen that movie and probably won’t.

  15. SteveF says:

I have not seen that movie and probably won’t

Yah, it’s an old story: Bear meets man, bear likes man, bear hits on man, man says No, bear doesn’t take No for an answer. -Yawn- Can’t Hollywood come up with any new plots?

  16. MrAtoz says:

    The Oscars.

Black host will probably slam WHITEY!

Somebody invited Whoopi? Big, fat, raciss, mostly crippled, dumb female. Kinda indicates where the show is going.

I’ll read the headlines on DA to see how WHITEY came out. If WHITEY! takes it all, will Sharpless lead riots cause BLM? lol, I can’t wait.

  17. OFD says:

“No, bear doesn’t take No for an answer.”

I am given to understand that “No” only works half the time. The other half you have to…wait for it….grin and BEAR IT!

“Black host will probably slam WHITEY!”

    That’s the prediction, anyway.

“Somebody invited Whoopi? Big, fat, raciss, mostly crippled, dumb female.”

She used to have, or maybe still does, an estate here in Vermont, and I saw her once fairly close-up at the supermarket in downtown Montpeculiar; yikes. I’d rather date any of them Predator characters in the movies by the same name.

“If WHITEY! takes it all, will Sharpless lead riots cause BLM? lol, I can’t wait.”

Somebody wrote something about this on Taki’s site the other day and explained how the black activists over the years kinda screwed themselves and black actors by their antics and tactics. So now the film companies are afraid to hire them. Maybe Mr. ech has more intel on that. And it used to be true, although I’m not sure if it still is, that the Academy is mainly controlled by old Jewish guys, and thus go the votes. Many of the winners over the decades boggle the mind, much like winners of the Nobel Prize for Literature over the same time frames.

  18. ech says:

Well, Jack didn’t win. But Emmanuel Lubezki won his 3rd consecutive cinematography Oscar. My brother has worked on two films he shot (Weightless coming out in the next 12 months, and The Tree of Life which was up for Best Picture and Cinematography) and says he’s very, very much a pro.

  19. SteveF says:

    grin and BEAR IT

    I approve of bad puns!

No, wait. I approve only of my own bad puns.

I disapprove of others’ bad puns!

Mrs. OFD just called and is now in Lexington, KY; her planes were delayed all to hell between Newark and Chicago and one big fly in the ointment was that a truck had backed into their plane at O’Hare and they had to swap out said plane, due to a nice big dent in it; wife said the plane rocked a bit on impact. More delays, etc. So she’s staying tonight just around the corner from Mary Todd Lincoln’s house and then driving to Prestonsburg at 06:00 tomorrow. On back roads through coal country. The mass of red hair should be a safe conduct, I reckon.

Rev. Fartinacan sez Cankles is Satan (see Drudge link).

Anyone from or around ChicagoLand and know if this is true?

“If you want to know what the face of American fascist evil looks like. Watch Screwy Louis do his hate Whitey act!If you don’t believe it, take a ride through ‘His Chicago and check the black goon storm troopers posted on every street corner. Cheap suits, pork-pie hats, thin black ties, bulges under the left arms.” (from one of the comments)

“cause I thought they had pretty strict gun laws there; maybe for WHITEY but not for NOI thugs? Is that it?

  24. OFD says:

“Biden’s claiming to be a Catholic is much akin to my claiming to be an artichoke – saying so doesn’t make it so.”

How true. He’s a Roman Catholic like a bunch of other Dumbocrat politicians; they wanna have their cake and eat it, too, with extra frosting and candles lit. But no artichokes.

Good thing I’m not a bishop or cardinal because none of these reprobates would be receiving communion in my diocese.

  25. MrAtoz says:

I read Sharpless is whining if next years Oscars are “all White”, he and the Furkan Murkan community is gonna shut the movies down. How I wonder? Certainly not by boycotting theaters. The teeny amount of FM’s that go won’t matter.

Kill WHITEY! Is da answer. That’s always the answer for Sharpless, Fartinacan and Jackwagon.

BTW, I think that I am going to move to 24 bottle Ozarka 0.5L cases instead of the new 40 bottle cases for sale at Sams and Costco for long term water storage. 40 bottles is just too heavy for me and my bum back / shoulder / knees / etc / etc / etc. Plus, I may be able to get more cases of water stashed in my shelves. I bought three 24 bottle cases tonight and they worked out great (three 24 bottle cases for $10 versus a 40 bottle case for $4.90). I just wonder what HEB will do when I walk up to a checkout with 20 cases? And I wonder how long the three 24 bottle cases for $10 special will last at HEB?

Chris Rock was very, very good as host. His opening monologue was a very deft poking at the problem Hollywood has with race. (And they do have a problem.) He spared nobody, as is usually the case with his humor. In fact, he has spoken out about how he can’t do college gigs because so many students get upset at his jokes. One bit he did was to go to a movie theater in Compton and ask patrons about many of the films nominated for Best Picture. It was very funny.

  33. Lynn says:

I liked Chris Rock bringing in his Girl Scout “daughters” to sell cookies during the show. That was classy.

  34. ech says:

Chris Rock slowed his career down to be there for his daughters. He once said his #1 job as a father was to “keep his daughter off the stripper pole”.

  35. lynn says:

Chris Rock slowed his career down to be there for his daughters. He once said his #1 job as a father was to “keep his daughter off the stripper pole”.

Wow, that is admirable. But aren’t he and his wife divorced?

My son thinks that having a man in the home causes kids to grow up in a more normal manner when they hit puberty. Not having a man in the home causes kids to grow up with their bodies in a crisis mode when they hit puberty. The girls hit puberty earlier and the boys later (I have no idea why). But then again, my son reads too many books about neurons.

Every person in the USA should be required to watch this video before getting in a car, “Chris Rock – How not to get your ass kicked by the police!”:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uj0mtxXEGE8&spfreload=10

  36. brad says:

Dunno about any biological explanation, but psychologically it certainly makes sense that kids do better, if they have both a mother and father in the house. They have a parent of their gender to emulate, and they learn how to interact with the opposite gender. There are apparently studies that support this, even though it’s not what the LGBT community really wants to hear.

  37. OFD says:

And there are other recent studies that show LGBT households raising kids is problematic but no one wants to hear that, either. Of COURSE it would be problematic, but that’s REALITY, and fewer people want anything to do with it.
