Warm and moist, possibly actually wet. It did end up with a little misty drizzle yesterday. The day was overcast (although my neck still got burned) until evening when it cleared for a bit. Then is got cloudy again. For the next couple of days the national forecast has us in the ‘rain and t-storms’ zone. We could use a little.
I didn’t get much done beyond yard work yesterday. String trimming, debris blowing, some tree pruning… Set up a fuel tank for the boat with a dispenser just like the gas station has. If the gas station’s was 3/4 size and plastic. Managed to get sunburned through the overcast. Kids played pool, swam, and messed around in the water. A good weekend.
Today I’ll start with some office work, maybe some auction stuff. I might do a pickup depending on weather. If we’re supposed to get rain for a couple of days, and it’s clear, I’ll do the pickup that needs the truck bed. The others will fit in the cab. Oh, and I need to get both trucks smogged and registered this week. And maybe reschedule the jury duty I missed.
Not an awe inspiring day, but they can’t all be.
Stack something.

Must be morning for slug-a-beds.
Monday!
Back to school indeed. Today is my first day back to work after the short break for bashing Bambi. Obviously, I must be greeted with lots of new work, as the proper punishment for taking time off is being swamped both before one leaves and when one returns. Ah, well.
I need to polish my dress shoes and iron a shirt. An elderly member of W1’s extended family has died, and I must attend the funeral later this week, because W1 can’t go. Colleagues are being very kind about covering for my absence during the obsequies.
Avoid recycling places like the pox. Loose screws and other shrapnel abound. I brought a couple of loads last week, and now the car has a slow puncture. I will just keep it topped off with the compressor, as the vehicle is anyway in for a service and change of tyres on Friday, so they can fix the puncture then too.
In the meantime, a fresh pot of tea, and work… Have a beautiful day!
Yes, if that covers “too much work for messing around on the interweb before lunch-break”.
78F and bright out. Not sunny, but bright.
Lunch = made.
Children = woken.
Wife = grumbles.
Me = tired and sore.
That mower beats me up and after almost 2 acres of rough terrain mowing, my everything is sore. Using the string trimmer doesn’t hurt me like it did at first, but holding that weight in front of my center of balance isn’t a piece of cake. Getting old hurts.

A beautiful morning. We’ve had a bit of a cool front move through and it’s been windy for days, but this morning it’s just a cool 55 Fahrenheit.
Our local fire bug is at it again this spring, two fires on Saturday and another one yesterday. I keep my yard fairly well shorn but I have a couple neighbors who haven’t touched them over in a year, concerning. every spring the fire department comes through an to visually inspect & issue a warning, and if the property owner doesn’t properly clear the lot they will have somebody come in and do it for them – and charge the homeowner top dollar on their property taxes.
This would be a situation where the use of a Geofence warrant would be useful, there’s no other way to identify somebody just driving through and throwing out a lit cigarette or box of matches without trying to survey tens of square miles visually. It is possible the culprit is some sort of clever Dexter type smart enough to turn off his phone, but it is more likely it’s a sub 80 IQ illegal alien.

Well, that was unexpected. my nap just took 5 hours. Yikes. Since D1 is getting sick with something, I guess I’ll take the time now and stay healthy, or be forced to take the time later. Still weird.

I was checking my credit score and it is fine, exceptional according to the site, Citi Cards. The report states that one of the items that is keeping my score is too many cards with high balances. How is one card, owing $285.00 of a $15K balance too many cards with high balances, a problem?
Of course I get dinged on the score because I have no mortgage and no personal loans. I would think that would be good, but nope.
The pendantic ghost of OFD raises its head: “There shall be no paraphrasing, ya maggots.”

@nick, are you getting (at least) yearly full body skin cancer screening?
Again? Is my suggestion of running her through the sheep dip tank starting to look good?
Remember this truth: Everyone either eventually admits that all of my ideas are good ideas or they die.
The key to eternal life is always agreeing with @SteveF.
(Another t-shirt slogan?)
nope
@nick, are you getting (at least) yearly full body skin cancer screening?
– something similar. Full body PET scan. Won’t catch pre-cancerous, still keeping an eye out for that, and need to schedule the butt cam for this year, but yeah, it’s a concern.
MUCH more concerning is a lifetime of occupational and personal exposures. Working with asbestos, living in a mobile home (formaldehyde offgassing), working in a workshop that used all kinds of crazy VOCs and two part products, working as a carpenter (wood dust, solvents) , working as a welder (asbestos, metal vapor, grinding dust), living in LA during the 90s (true fact, doc once said “ you don’t have anything wrong with your sinuses that everyone living in LA doesn’t have…”), washing up with benzine, acetone, MEK, and a variety of other solvents, and other bad stuff like that. I hit my lifetime exposure limit for a number of common chemicals…
One floral paint product had a warning that exposure could “cause damage to the blood.” That was a warning I’ve never seen anywhere else.
This is the time of life that all that stuff starts to catch up with you if it’s gonna…

Hmm, most white and also ‘picture perfect.’
– “out of step” is a negative way to describe it.
– And where did those 44% come from? 13% is black, native at this point. The other 31? Hmm. Imports. The great replacement is real. NOT conspiracy.

HEB sells a brand of canned peanuts called “Picosos”. It’s there with the cans of Planters. Decent peanuts although the “hot and spicy” isn’t much to me.
Picosos uses a metal can. Not the plastic coated cardboard of store brand and Planters. This matters if you use a can for grease. The plastic coated cans melt with hot grease and peel off when you want a scoop of grease to fry eggs. Pretty annoying.
I filter grease I want to save through a paper towel. Scott Select-a-size to be exact. So I had half a can of bacon grease. Pretty and white like Crisco. As hard to scoop like ice cream from a -10 freezer. I filter because I don’t want little chunks of skillet char in the frying pan.
The brisket from the other day? Lots of juice. I poured it off into a couple of bowls and (sitting on saucers) into the fridge.
Today I cracked off the grease. A couple of slabs almost a half inch think. I rinsed the jellied broth off and then into a saucepan. Stir it, let it bubble a bit to boil out the water. Strain. I now have a very full can of meat grease. Yep, the bacon grease melted.
It’s cooled off enough to taste. Pretty good stuff. Beefy Bacon Flavor.
The broth is like soft jelly. I have a couple of ziplock tubs in the freezer. I’ll vac seal that tomorrow. Soup stock!
Ah the vibrance is overwhelming.

I don’t really start tanning until I get a little scorched. Not sun burned but near. But I tan enough that folks often think I’m Mexican…. not an Aztec mexican.
As for stuff like chemicals. I’m sure I’ve done my share. Work on the car? Stuff won’t wash off? Gasoline cleans the grime.
And if gasoline isn’t good enough, that gallon paint can with a basket full of carb cleaner certainly will.
Spray paint? In whiffs the high is nice. Ditto contact cement. But, whiffs. Open the freaking windows. Asbestos, I don’t know. Never noticed the stuff as a problem.
Feral youngsters = All Amish.
No guarantees made.
And no threats implied by my earlier statement. All I was saying was, people either agree that all of my ideas are good ideas or they eventually die without having made that admission.
The fact that many people die of mysterious causes is completely unrelated to the fact that they failed to acknowledge that all of my ideas are good ideas, and I’ll call you a liar to your face if you say otherwise.

At least two of whom appear well on their way to indoctrination into Communism. Admittedly, this is only a minor increase to their base level of toxicity.
I’m not so sure about that. There are millions of Africans and Caribbeans in the US at this point. Some fully legal – H1-B, student visas, etc. Some of dubious legality, mainly so-called refugees whose refugee status either was questionable from the start or is long since expired. Point is, millions. Whether that’s enough to be a percent or two, I don’t know. I’m not sure that the federal government knows but I am sure that they wouldn’t tell us the truth if they did know.
“DOJ Creates $1.8 Billion Fund in Trump IRS Settlement Accord”
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-moves-to-drop-10-billion-lawsuit-against-irs-133219277.html
“(Bloomberg) — The US Justice Department said it’s creating a $1.8 billion fund to pay out claims of alleged government weaponization as part of a settlement agreement to end President Donald Trump’s lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service over the 2019 leak of his tax information.”
Note that they are not prosecuting the guilty person who violated Trump’s privacy.
Working on the farm gasoline (the stuff with TEL (lead)) was used as an all-purpose hand cleaner and parts cleaner. Siphoning from one tank to another in a pinch generally resulting in some form of ingestion in small amounts. Diesel was used if gasoline was not around, but diesel did not work as well or taste any better.
One time we were toting a couple of five-gallon containers of gasoline in the front-end loader and decided that was a good place to ride. Some of the gasoline spilled and we (brother and I) were sitting in the gasoline. After several minutes that stuff really started burning (not with flames, just irritating the skin).
There was also the usual assortment of deadly chemicals, if not diluted, to treat animal pests such as flies, grub worms. Add in the powerful herbicides used to control the blackberry bushes, and control weeds, all used liberally.
When I was much younger, we would salvage mercury batteries that were used in remote control planes and were being discarded. We found that opening the batteries, smooshing the paste around in our hands, would cause the mercury to form little balls. Which we then collected and played with. Usually contaminating something gold plating or getting it on a wristwatch and eventually into the interior and completely destroying the watch. Over a couple of years, I managed to accumulate a small pill bottle almost three quarter full of the stuff.
Kids playing with mercury. What could go wrong?
When moving the D2 dozer from one field to another, I would point the dozer at the gate, slow speed, jump off, open the gate, jump back on for final alignment through the gate, jump off, close the gate, and jump back on the moving dozer. I was “smart (if you want to call it that) enough” to at least jump on and off from the back of the dozer.
New Details Emerge About Suspects and Victims in San Diego Mosque Shooting
The only new information this afternoon is the age of the alleged shooters.
As of the above report at 7:03PM:
“Authorities said they were still looking into the motive, but they would keep the public advised as the investigation proceeded. ”
So how it it that hours ago the event was being described as a “hate crime”?
If a perp of Middle Eastern descent walks into a synagogue yelling “Allaku jack bar” and shoots up the place, it takes authorities a week to decide, and then mostly it’s “We have no evidence this is a hate crime.”

But, I cannot register my daughter for Social Security Disability and/or Medicaid because my family makes too much money.
Lyme disease is the second fastest growing disease in the USA at 300,000 known cases per year. Who knows what the real number of cases is?

“New York Times Article May Be Cited in Every Legal Challenge to Semi-Auto Bans From Now On”
https://thelibertydaily.com/new-york-times-article-may-be-cited-every/
“Well, the article the Times published was on the decline in popularity of modern semiautomatic rifles that superficially resemble the AK-47 family of assault rifles. You would think that would make someone like Schumer, who repeatedly invoked the AK to scare voters into supporting that 1994 “assault weapons” ban he and the late Democratic California Sen. Dianne Feinstein rammed through Congress, happy, especially in this day and age where Russia is a designated villain, but not so fast.”
“The problem is that the Times article creates a few new hurdles for Schumer and other would-be gun banners. For starters, it acknowledges that the semiautomatic AK-style rifles were once “ubiquitous” – that’s a fancy Acela Corridor word for “common” – until the AR-15 established its dominance among the American civilian market, which creates a big problem for those who want to ban them.”

““Serious Negotiations”: Trump Orders U.S. Military to “Hold Off” on Planned Iran Attack Set for Tuesday”
https://thelibertydaily.com/serious-negotiations-trump-orders-u-s-military-hold/
“Trump stated on Truth Social: “I have been asked by the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to hold off on our planned Military attack of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was scheduled for tomorrow, in that serious negotiations are now taking place, and that, in their opinion, as Great Leaders and Allies, a Deal will be made, which will be very acceptable to the United States of America, as well as all Countries in the Middle East, and beyond.”
“Trump again stressed his main talking point, saying in capital letters: “This Deal will include, importantly, NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS FOR IRAN!””
I don’t believe that one can negotiate with Iran in good faith.

https://townhall.com/tipsheet/dmitri-bolt/2026/05/18/iran-is-dumping-its-oil-into-the-sea-n2676259
“Iran has reportedly begun dumping oil into the Persian Gulf after running out of storage capacity for excess crude. Images allegedly showing oil residue in the waters around Kharg Island began circulating around 10 days ago, with more continuing to emerge as time has gone on.”
“Some reports warn that the situation is rapidly becoming an environmental disaster, as Iran’s coastline has reportedly become heavily coated in oil, which is now said to be spreading to the shores of neighboring countries, including Kuwait.”

I think I’ll skip a tiny little fire tonight and go to bed.
I don’t want to get sick and I’m still tired.

I really think you’re far enough from Kharg Island that your fire wouldn’t be a problem, but we all thank you for the consideration. Bon nuit.

Last night it turned around and blew from the northeast at about the same speed for about 20 hours.
Now, I just realized it’s dead calm out at 9pm local. Strange.
