By on July 18th, 2013 in science kits

07:44 – Despite our best efforts, we’ve been in OMGWO inventory mode on kits for the last few weeks. We get down to one or two kits of a particular type in stock. I think to myself that we’d better restock, but have other things occupying my time. Then someone orders the last kit, and I think to myself that we really, really need to build more. Then an order comes in for a kit we’re out of stock on, and I drop everything to build another batch. So far, we haven’t had to delay shipping any order because we were out of stock, but it’s come close.

It’s happening again. I got an order overnight for a biology kit with the core prepared slides set. We currently have 38 of the biology kits in stock, but only two of the prepared slides sets. So today I’ll build 30 more of the slide sets. We’re also down to only 16 of the CK01A chemistry kits, so I’ll get started today on another batch of 30 or 60 of those.

I wonder why an avowed atheist uses a Christian based inventory system, in the first place? 🙂

  2. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

Typo. It should have been “OMgWO”. Which kind of looks like a mixed magnesium/tungsten oxide. Except I think the lowest known oxidation state of tungsten is +3.

    “Goodness” is a Christian word?

How about OYGWO inventory? (Oh Your God We’re Out!)

  5. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

    Or FIGMO/OMGIF

  6. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

Interestingly, Wikipedia under a list of USAF acronyms has FIGMO, but not the reciprocal OMGIF. (OH MY GOD I’M FUCKED).

One of my college suite-mates was former enlisted AF/ANG maintaining TACAN units. I remember him describing what happened the time he abused FIGMO and got OMGIF’d.

I’m reading Rick Atkinson’s 3 book set on the US Western Front campaigns in WWII and the second volume (on Italy) has a section on the vocabulary expansion that happened in North Africa during the fighting there and the subsequent preparations for the invasion of Sicily.

It started with SNAFU (situation normal, all fucked up) and expanded to:
    – SUSFU (situation unchanged, still fucked up)
    – SAFU (self adjusting fuck up)
    – TARFU (things are really fucked up)
    – FUMTU (fucked up more than usual)
    – JANFU (joint Army-Navy fuck up)
    – JAAFU (joint Anglo-American fuck up)
    – FUAFUP (fucked up and fucked up proper)
and the one familiar to all software developers
    – FUBAR (fucked up beyond all recognition)

If you have any interest in WWII, read these books. The first, An Army at Dawn , is on the invasion of North Africa. The second, The Day of Battle,is on the Sicily and Italian campaigns. The final, which I’ve not read, The Guns at Last Light, is just out in hardback.

I second the recommendations above by ech; I read all three and boy, you know some stuff about the American Western Front by the time you’re done.

I’d like to find a similar treatment, if there is one, of the war on the Russian Front; I’ve read a few individual books on the Battle of Moscow and the battle for Berlin.

Ha Ha! Holder says Zimmerman can’t have his gun back. He’s holding all evidence for his investigation. Who’s he kidding. He should just end it now and endure the yelling from the race baiters. No way he can have a case.

I hope more celibrutards boycott Florida. It might become a decent place to live.

  10. OFD says:

Florida long since has ceased to be a decent place to live; what a shit-hole. If a gigantic hurricane comes along and washes it underwater it will be no big loss; ditto much of the East Coast, and esp. the cities. Just sayin.

Holder is a criminal scumbag and one of the chief Bolsheviks who’ve seized power in this country and his whole demeanor is that nothing can happen to him whatsoever; he’s in there as long as he wants to be in there. Barry Soetero and the Mooch are cut from the same commie cloth; longtime radical Boslshies who’ve managed to gain the “highest office in the land.” They’re all criminal scum and evidently plan to hang onto power for a very long time as they destroy the country. It’s as if the North Koreans took over here without firing a damn shot.

Don’t pull your punches Dave, tell us what you really think… 🙂

  12. OFD says:

    You bet.

Somebody phone up Algore; it hit 97 here today in northern Vermont on the Lake and friends in Florider tell me of temps in the mid 80’s. WTF? Help us, Al.

Here in the Florida panhandle (a/k/a Lower Alabama) my car’s thermometer read 93*F this afternoon. All in all a pleasant afternoon; it’s nice to be able to work up a sweat when active in the outdoors.

  14. Miles_Teg says:

Been raining on and off for almost a week here. Not heavily, but enough to make working outside and drying washing on the clothes line very inconvenient.
