Thur. Sept. 17, 2020 – getting close to my wife’s birthday….

By on September 17th, 2020 in gardening, personal, WuFlu

Hot and humid.  Overcast with possibility of rain.

Yesterday was a little bit cooler but so humid that puddles in the driveway never dried out.  It was overcast which helped a lot for comfort.

I did manage to get some things done.   I got stain and preservative on my teak outdoor furniture.  It needs to be power washed and the oil renewed every year or so.  Looks great now and should last for years more.  Quality pays off in longevity, with a little bit of care.  The chairs will probably need another application, and all the bolts tightened.  Domestic bliss will undoubtedly break out.

I swapped out my weather station for a replacement.  I got one new in the box for $12 so I took a few minutes and changed it.  I haven’t seen an update on the display yet, so I’ve got more messing with it to do.

I also got some seeds in the ground.  I got snap peas, some sort of green bean, spinach, and radishes planted.  I made some more progress installing the drip system for my window boxes.  The feed line is in place now.  That was the biggest problem I had with the window boxes- I didn’t water them enough.  Having the drip system fed by the grass sprinklers will mean they get watered on a schedule.  That should help.  Ag Extension says next week to plant the turnips and beets…  If I had plants for my dark green leafies, I could plant them but I don’t have any this year.  I suppose I should have started some, or gone and bought them.  Too much else going on.

Couple of things to do today outside the house.  We’re going to a lake house for my wife’s birthday.  I need to get the presents, cake, decorations, etc today, and do an auction pickup that is entirely stuff she wanted.  The lake house is on a lake we’ve been looking at for a while.  We’ve got one family we know up there, and it’s nice.  It will give us a retreat from hurricanes and somewhere to ‘vacation’ that is close and not infected.  It wouldn’t be an ideal bug out location, but it would be one… and it turns cash into stuff which is a hedge against hyperinflation.

So I better get to it.  Hunter/gather mode engaged…

so SA thinks orangemanbad is enough reason to overlook Biden’s sexual weirdness

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Some Biden supporters may not be pedophiles, but every single one decided that groping children was not a deal-breaker.

That’s a neat shelf. I always wonder though if anyone ever tried to actually draw the weapon? Can’t get a grip with all the foam in the way, and do you pick up the rifle left or right handed?

The electrical grid is vulnerable – no surprise to anyone here.

With the existing storms and proto storms in the atlantic, suddenly there is this:

    Disturbance 1 (as of 8:00 a.m. ET)
    • Located over the SW Gulf of Mexico
    • Gradually becoming more conducive for development;
tropical depression or storm possible today
    • Formation chance through 48 hours: High (90%)
    • Formation chance through 5 days: High (90%)

    —surprise! Another invader from mexico.

    n

added- I say ‘surprise’ because yesterday NOAA said any action on that disturbance would be “slow to occur” with only a 20% chance of developing in the next 48. That changed pretty dramatically.

  5. SteveF says:

Don’t worry about fluctuations in daily weather forecasts. Climate scientists can predict with 99% certainty what will happen decades from now because the fluctuations balance each other out.

  6. SteveF says:

Related to the above: A high school science teacher quite liked and planned to steal my aphorism that climate scientists have an explanation for everything but can’t accurately predict anything.

  7. SteveF says:

Yup x 1,000,000! Plugs has to answer for this.

What are you talking about, MrAtoz? Biden’s a Democrat. He ain’t gotta answer for nuthin.

Waiting for the cable guy or someone like him.
Two weeks ago our service provider finally sent a technician out to diagnose our internet outage. He traced the issue to problems in the line from the drop-box to the house. He ran a new line and said he would put in a work order to have it buried. Since we cut the cable, the internet provides all our media, phone, and shopping
Yesterday afternoon internet died so I went out back to check on the cable. My nextdoor neighbor was doing me a favor and mowing my back garden with his new riding mower. Chopped the cable into. I Jerry rigged a splice and called Suddenlink to come replace the cable and bury it.

Lesson for the week, WEAR YOUR GLASSES!
On Monday I wanted to attach a power strip to the concrete wall of the garage. I turned to a large tube of construction glue I had on hand, liberally applied it, and stuck it up. The next day I saw it had come loose so I applied more glue and put it back up. Today, with my glasses on, I saw it had fallen off again and as I reached for the tube of glue I read “white lithium grease” on the label. Well that explains a lot. Do you realize how difficult it is to remove lithium grease?

The accusation is a response to the creepy image of Biden and Ash Carter’s wife which surfaced earlier this week. The Plugs campaign is careful to select stories that turn off the kind of suburban women voters who live in the suburbs of DC and the tech hub — the constituency the Dems felt they needed to win by putting up such a pathetic ticket.

Again, if I worked for Trump, I’d suggest putting the ex- of Dr. Jill Biden — gotta have the Dr. in front just like the ‘!’ after Jeb! — on the front row of the audience in the first debate.

    Ah, electronics fun.

First, we have an NAS which I have now installed into the new home network. For reasons, the new network is 192.168.1.* instead of 192.168.0.*. So I gave the NAS an address in the new range. A few second later, it dropped off the network. I powered it down, let it reboot (it’s old, so this takes about 10 minutes) – voila – there it is. For a few seconds, then gone again. So I have a window a few seconds long every 10 minutes or so to figure out what is wrong with it. Turns out that there was a security rule I had put in place but forgotten about, that denied connections from outside the 192.168.0.* subnet. Thank goodness it is old and slow, so there was the small delay after booting and before applying the security rule. I won’t tell you how long it took me to figure this out.

Then we have our shiny new internet TV box. Which sometimes just turns on the TV, for no reason at all. I reported this, and had a fun talk with the tech. I hadn’t yet noticed the pattern, but he tells me that the TV is turning on every day at precisely 11:35:14. However, he is as mystified as I am, as to why this might be happening. It’s Gremlins, I just know it.

“Barr explained that in his mind, the issue of forcing people to close their businesses, schools and churches and to stay home is a historic assault on liberty.”

““You know, putting a national lockdown, stay-at-home orders, is like house arrest. “Antwon Rose Jr. died after being shot in the back by a white officer in 2018, but the situation was much more complex than that — and the team decals seemed an implicit disavowal of the law enforcement officer who fired at Rose.”

The Pittsburgh Steelers are wearing a tribute to a man shot by police for fleeing after he participated in a drive by shooting ?

Tell me again why I should watch NFL games ? I hope the NFL goes broke now that they are woke.

Why is it that these storms always (initially, at least) seem to make a beeline for New Orleans? 🙁

  35. MrAtoz says:

It’s getting sad watching Plugs’ videos on the toobs. I have noticed, during a speech, as soon as he can’t remember the thought, can’t read the teleprompter, or his dentures slip, he IMMEDIATELY says “Look….”. Then segues into something not even related to the *list* provided by his handlers. If it is an interview, he says “Come on, man…” and then insults the interviewer. The Dumbos are going to do anything to marginalize him and get him to resign. Camel will be our first Black, female, President. One term since she won’t get anything done.

    This is not sarcasm.

Good news for Texas, from the Governor’s newsletter–

On September 21st, these same regions may increase occupancy levels to 75% for restaurants, retail stores, office buildings, manufacturing facilities, gyms, exercise facilities and classes, museums and libraries.

And effective September 24th, eligible nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and long-term care facilities will be able to designate up to two essential family caregivers for visitation to ensure their loved one’s needs are being met.

Currently in Atlanta for a couple of nights. Staying with friends. Long drive from Alexandria LA to Atlanta. Lot of jerks on the road. Especially truck drivers who think nothing of taking 5 miles to pass another truck but get ticked at a car that takes 30 seconds to pass another truck. Got a couple of truck numbers to call in for lane violations and dangerous tailgating. Should be a fun day tomorrow, for me, hopefully not for the truck drivers involved.

  42. Bill Quick says:

One term since she won’t get anything done.

The problem is that Kommiela expects that term to run for the rest of her life.

If their steal the vote plans work, she’ll be president with a Democrat House and Senate. They will send a constitutional amendment to the states that repeals the two term presidential limit in the name of “restoring the will of the people to the election of their president.” After all, if the people want Kommiela for more than two terms, why shouldn’t they be able to elect her to as many terms as they desire?

Then they steal the amendment vote in the states. (Yeah, we can argue about whether they could scrape together enough red and purple states to get the job done, but we really have no idea how the millennials who will be running the country in eight years will actually vote. They don’t seem to have much use for our sort, it seems to me.

And the Dems would have the full power of the media, digital and social, the Deep State, the street storm troopers, and so on. You can’t just handwave away the possibility. I remember when California used to elect GOP legislatures and Governors.

    Voila. Kommiela Augustus.

Well, got my errands run. Had to go to the mall for presents. Ghost town. Don’t know if that is normal, it was never very busy the few times I was there. Lots of signs and marks on the floor, lots of sneeze shields. Lots of empty retail spaces too.

I parked within 100 yards of the entrance.

Chicken tacos for dinner, made from Costco canned chicken. This has entered our normal weekly dinner rotation. The kids love it and it’s especially quick since the chicken doesn’t need to actually cook. I’m FINALLY rotating the canned chicken!

News seems unusually quiet. Not liking the feeling I’m getting.

Well, weirdness here tonight. Motion on my cams caught my eye, and it was the Deputy Constables swooping in. 4 cars zoom up in front of the house and go retrieve a lady from in front of my neighbor’s house. They put her in the back, search around a bit, come back with her purse, look thru it, then search her, let her go thru the purse, and look around some more. Eventually they got her out of cuffs and then spent a bunch of time standing around with arm waving… Now, over an hour later, they’re still out front, but they’ve been joined by a little dog…

    Like I said, strangeness.

    And I’m off to bed.
