09:58 – We’re spending some time this morning getting the finished area of the basement straightened up and de-cluttered. Barbara just called Goodwill to come haul off some furniture that she wants to get rid of, so we had to clear a path for the Goodwill folks to carry the stuff out. Next we’ll deal with the library/living room, which is currently stacked full of boxes that UPS and FedEx have delivered over the last week or so, and the workroom.

Barbara just called Goodwill to come haul off some…

Uh-oh! Last time I heard about a wife arranging to get some useless stuff hauled off, she had her husband in mind.

I wonder if Barbara is looking up the Hoarders phone number? Of course, with a constantly turning over inventory, Bob may not qualify.

I have a very important question. How does one read in the hot tub with the bubbler on and not get the book soaked? I am rereading my “Mutineer’s Moon” best space opera trilogy ever and would am jumping in the hot tub during the Aggies half time. Oh yeah, the pool has started its downward trend and is now at 83 F. Especially when we did not get to 80 F ambient today.

I had to laugh just now; hot tub, 80s, reading a book in the hot tub and watching college ball…80s…hot tub…

A hard rain was fallin’ up here today, with gray skies, a stiff breeze off the bay, and did I mention a hard cold rain…? Leaves and twigs and sticks all over the place…some more hard cold rain…no hot tub…

    …soon…the snows…and a hahd cold bittuh wintuh again…and no hot tub…

The pool is still 83 F. The ambient air is about 72 F and dropping. Got a cool front coming in from the Northeast and it feels awesome!

You need a hot tub! It is awesome and just makes those old bones feel young again. Until you get out…

We’re cold-hahted New Englanders and scoff at the cold and wind and fog and snow and our ancient brittle bones. We love to feel discomfort and pain all the time; why ruin it with a decadent thing like a hot tub? We’re kin to those other northern peoples over in Scandinavia, who like to roast themselves in a sauna and then run out and jump into the snow. And the kin on the other side of the continent who do them sled dog races. Plus the primitive biathlon here.

Frankly, though, there were some days recently after I got home from the salt mine that I wished I had a hot tub, toking on a big ol’ spliff, sipping a hot rum toddy and listening to Bach.

And right now I can hear the wind howling outside again…as I look at the time and date in the lower right corner of the screen here and note that we have another full week of summuh….what a laugh…

So that’s where our cooler wx went. Visiting Mission Viejo, where it was over 100 Saturday. Home, closer to Death Valley, was no warmer. We always cool off by December!

I had to fire up the furnace last night. That is VERY early. Usually I can hold off until about the second week of October. Our nightly average lows are about 63 for this time of year, but the last few nights have been in the lower 40’s. We don’t usually get to the lower 40’s until late October. Daytime highs average about 76 for this week of the year, but yesterday was only 62 and today 67. Back to normal by next weekend is the forecast.

I turned on ours briefly today for Mrs. OFD being back for all of four hours before she headed to Syracuse; it’s been high 40s during the days and low 40s at night here, with pretty stiff breezes off the bay. A tad cooler than normal for this time of year, when it’s still technically summuh for another week.
