A minor but satisfying bit of good news for me, to counteract the run of bad or aggravating events: A year or two ago I grumbled here that I’d unintentionally reformatted a hard drive which had been holding a lot of old pictures and videos of the kids. I just discovered that I’d formatted a different 500GB drive, this happy discovery happening when I double-checked that a drive was suitable to be formatted and put into a laptop. I’m not sure what series of errors led me to think I’d trashed a “do not touch” drive, but mostly don’t care; I’m just glad a series of errors led to good news for a change.

(And, yes, I’m copying the hundred GB of pics and vids to my two main backup drives.)

That is lucky! Go buy a lotto ticket…

The Lord Thy SteveF doesn’t need luck, or roads, where we’re going, we don’t need roads.

    We need pitchforks! 🙂

Lord help me, I shouldn’t say this, but I often wake up (like right now) and get the giggles over my first cup of coffee.

The other day it was a Phyllis Diller: “I’m so old… my dentures have dentures”.

Of course you really don’t want to know how to get a hundred dead babies out of a dump truck.

  6. Nick Flandrey says:

There is SO MUCH more to this story than we’re being told…

“Former Afghanistan terror hostage used rope in sexual attack and broomstick in assault on his return to Canada’ as court orders he undergo 60-days of psychological tests”

    Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5318633/Afghanistan-hostage-used-rope-broom-assault.html

Note the very last line of the article:

“Boyle was once briefly married to Zaynab Khadr, the older sister of former Guantanamo Bay detainee Omar Khadr and the daughter of a senior al-Qaida financier who had contacts with Osama bin Laden.”

Maybe there’s a reason he went hiking where he did???????

Well, Germany is gone. Time to cue up OFD’s “Camp of the Saints”.

  9. Nick Flandrey says:

Mohammud in all its forms was the most popular baby name in the UK too. The original article only counted one spelling.

Did I mention it’s 65F and drizzling? Real yuck outside. I guess I’ll be doing more pc and tech stuff for the rest of the day.

Gotta get the pc I bought from costco fully hooked up and get my NVR software running on it and OFF my desktop. I’m changing out the monitor, and moving a dead machine too. Probably clean out some dust (hmm, cough, some…)

Not gonna happen. She’s hung around with some pretty creepy people (cough … Roger Ebert … Weinsteins … cough) over the years, and I have no doubt there are pictures.

I thought Oprah squelched the President talk this week in an interview for a celebutard magazine.

So there you have it from her very own pie-hole, she is a creature from another planet.

  15. Nick Flandrey says:

OKAY, my world just got significantly weirder.

In the quest to avoid working in my office, I went looking for a specific lightbulb for my desklamp. Those lightbulbs I keep in the garage attic. On the way, I noticed that the unmolested pouches of Mountain House that I saved from the shelf had now been molested. 3 were eaten empty. Two were just spoiled with holes in the pouch. F me! they were fine last night.

Now I’ve got to move out the rest of the stuff on the shelves, and clean what I can. I can HEAR at least 3 rats moving around. (could be raindrops, probably rats ) Now I’m pissed. MH is $6/pouch. So I’m moving and setting new traps, using MH as bait. I decide I might as well put some of the big traditional snap traps out too, next to the glue, so while thrashing around on the glue they might trigger the snap. While baiting one, it snapped and (fortunately) knocked my hand out of the way. Smacked right into my knuckle. Of course I swore.

I kid you not, the FUKING RATS LAUGHED AT ME. They LAUGHED. 3 long times, titter/he he he sounds from up in the attic. They know what the snap means, they know what the swearing means, and they LAUGHED.

I’ve got to set a web cam out there so I can see the little bast@rds.

Freakin weird doesn’t even begin to describe it.

    More WRT the flu:
    https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-01-27/flu-far-worse-were-being-told-10s-1000s-are-dying

What is not being revealed to the public is that this version of the H2N3 flu has a link to countries other than the USofA making it even less controllable with the current flu vaccine.

I am going to go ahead and say it, as racist and politically incorrect as it is, but we can thank our ridiculous immigration policies for this with an assist from Big Vaccine for not thinking globally when it comes to creating vaccines.

Anyone who travels in an airplane is increasing their chances of catching the flu, pneumonia, TB, and several flavors of hepatitis by many factors.

    Now, getting back to GUNS:

  22. Nick Flandrey says:

During one year of constant travel and work away from home, I had pneumonia 4 times. Much less exposure now that I’m not in airports and hotels every week. My exposures now are from the kids and the 60% illegal population at their school.

Notice the return of swine flu? Didn’t it came up from Guatemala the last time around ?

Question for SteveF: I did quick format an important hard drive by mistake. tried ActiveX from Lsoft (got some back but very sloppy)
    Would Pandora solve my mistake?

Mike: Dunno. I use Windows, and Windows-oriented file systems, only when unavoidable.

Probably one of the knowledgeable Windows users will chime in shortly.

“Internet craze the ‘no lackin challenge’ where people pull guns on each other to film their response goes horribly wrong when a Memphis boy, 17, is shot

Sherman Lackland, 21, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of a weapon
The ‘no lackin’ fad shows young people pulling guns on one another and filming the response – they are not supposed the fire the weapon
The term refers to ‘lacking’ a gun or fire arm, a way to test the readiness of an individual should they need a firearm

The occasional failures of the flu vaccine are due to how far in advance the vaccine has to be made. The vaccine makers have to try to figure out which flu strains will be prevalent and make it based on that.

And it’s not immigration that spreads it. It’s air travel.

  30. jim~ says:

I’m reminded of “the Cutter incident” of 1955 in which millions of children were spared the horror of poliomyelitis yet the manufacturer was successfully sued because 5 or 6 kids got polio from the vaccine itself. It led to a legal precedent which stands to this day: implied warranty of merchantability.

Cui bono? Why, the lawyers, of course.

  31. Nick Flandrey says:

That’s part of the irony. Vaccines in general have been so effective that people no longer know the horror of the diseases they prevent, and so they are willing to risk far more.

People were lined up for vaccine when polio haunted every parent’s nightmares and iron lungs were prevalent.

That said, some of the vaccines pushed now are not for horrors, and some are having their benefit cast into doubt (measles, mumps) as vaccinated people are contracting the diseases anyway.

Immigration, illegal especially, certainly does contribute to the rise in frequency of the formerly controlled diseases. Illegals aren’t screened at all, nor required to get the vaccinations when entering. Swine flu ravaged the south due to large immigrant populations and people moving freely from areas where it was endemic to the US. Air travel contributes to the swiftness of spread, but isn’t the only mechanism*. Thousands enter the US from the southern countries OTM via buses, and trains thru those countries. They then move thru the US on buses. I know of at least 3 different bus lines locally that cater to the illegal crowd. From their signage, you can book all the way from some far south- or central- american shithole to Minneapolis, Hartford, or points in between or beyond.

*SARS and Bird flu were notably spread by air travel and had devastating economic as well as health impacts. Ebola got here thru air travel as well.
