Thur. May 15, 2025 – yeah, let’s try that again…

Warm then getting hot. Not brain melting hot though. Just ordinary May/June hot. Beautiful clear day, lots of wind, and a little dust or smoke in the air. Today will probably be the same as yesterday. Because that’s how it usually works.

Spent yesterday morning mostly on the phone or asleep. Yup. Fell asleep. I have to get my bedtime under control, or I’m not getting anything done in the morning. I can’t go on too little sleep like I could just a year ago.

When I got back to work, it was domestic bliss and appointment setting, followed by ‘get the oldest from school because she’s not feeling well.’ I did because that gave me my afternoon free, instead of having to be home to get her later… Is that wrong of me? Oh well. It’s the last week of school and they aren’t doing much.

Did several pickups in the afternoon. I was only going to do one, but then remembered a couple others that I could get out of the way. So I did. I fit in a trash run too. Then it was home to deal with moving people around for a band concert and a sports team recognition dinner. It was 930pm by the time I was home again. This is what I signed up for, but the pace is increasing. And it’s only going to get worse next year when youngest is doing band and theater while oldest is doing boys, and sports. Yeah, I said it.

Ay carumba. We’ll see how today goes. Maybe if I keep my plans secret from the universe it won’t conspire to thwart me.

I did test drive it.  I wanted to be sure it didn’t have the three biggest defects of the Honda Oddysee

The really big one in the Odyssey would be the transmission, but Honda has spent a lot of money to keep the owners happy.

    Happy wife, happy life.

I gave up on that a long time ago. Too many people depend on my wife being naive for their financial or physical well being so if I don’t tell it like it is, bad things happen. Like Vantucky.

My way will make the FJ possible.

Her way led to this putz recently buying a $1 million house with mostly Daddy Cash but a lot of our sweat equity as down payment. He really can see Portland from his balcony now.

I saw yesterday that the neighbor’s garage queen Bronco was not traded for the ID Buzz but has merely moved to the smaller throne room, a single car space which had been occupied by the wife’s (I’m assuming) previous toy, an early 2000s Camaro convertible “secretary car”, one of the last made.

The Buzz footprint must be bigger than the Bronco. Some microbus.

I wonder what happened to the Camaro. That vehicle was pristine.

    Ah plans…

76F and light overcast this am.

D2’s bus never came.   Driver warned us that there would be a sub today, and that means chaos.   Kid has an audition for HS band so she’s freaked and wanted to be early so she could get a bit more practice in.   W ended up driving her.   Which meant that because D1 didn’t get out of bed, I’d end up driving HER to school.   Which I don’t normally do, as W drops her off on the way to work.   So I’m dressed in yesterday’s cloths, and vertical, having dropped her off.

Only half a cup of coffee in me and no breakfast yet.   I’m grumpy.

On the plus side, I thought my dental appointment was at 1030 but it’s at 1230, so I can do some things around here first.

    >>I have one of those “dental discount plans.” Not insurance, rather a defined discount amount that the dentist agrees to for each individual procedure code. No deductibles, no waiting periods, no procedure exclusions and no yearly coverage cap. Savings are less than traditional insurance, but costs for me (single adult) ~$150/year.

    Or there’s this option…

If you’re turning your dental care into lowest bid, don’t overlook border town clinics in Mexico. Some are quite good from what I understand.

Personally, I prefer to have a long term relationship with the dentist

I’d never do it, but putting dental work up for bid isn’t something I would ever consider either.

About That Super Secret German Government Intelligence Report Documenting AfD Extremism

To say that this thing is s**t would be an understatement.

Leftists indistinguishable from hard-line communists and Nazis have embedded themselves into western governments and continue to use the classic “big lie” against their opponents. It remains to be seen whether they can be rooted out or if the struggle to do so will destroy democratic democracies. Light is a disinfectant, but there are others.

Home from my afternoon fun time.

Had a bone growing thru my gum.   Second time that’s happened.   Dr plucked it out and the gum should heal.

Did a pickup, then had to get D1, so I let her drive to the other pickup.   Still terrifying.

Home until a Girl Scout thing tonight for both girls.

Around where a wisdom tooth was extracted?

I get those every few years.

The really crazy thing is that a friend who went to the same oral surgeon usually has bone chips emerge at around the same time in roughly the same location as mine.

I didn’t worry about the emerging chips until my sister died of mouth cancer in 2012.

Now every time I feel a chip emerging, I schedule a dentist appointment if I don’t have a tooth cleaning on the calendar within a month or so.

My sister was a smoker and a little too obsessed with only using UF-educated professionals, but we know very little about our family medical history.

  16. nick flandrey says:

Around where a wisdom tooth was extracted?

    – yeah, on the inside of the jaw, near the top edge, behind the last molar.   This is the second time, only on the left this time.  Dr said this sort of growth is usually because someone is on bone growth meds, like old ladies with osteoporosis.

The bony bit is kind of a very short dunce hat shape, with the flat bottom being slightly dished.   the point is where it attaches to the jaw.

It’s weird, and hurts, but not intolerably.     Now that it’s out there is a little divot, but that will heal over quickly.

While tinkering with block lists on the Pi-hole I found something interesting.  There is a section on the dashboard called Top Clients (blocked only).  It lists 192.168.0.2 and 0.1.  That’s moa and emu.  It also had 0.25, that’s my router.

Looking at what was being blocked was a “wait a minute” thing.  What’s this android stuff?  It’s not a lot but what is it?  I finally figured it out.  The stuff being blocked from the router is from my Kindle Fire.  I put the Kindle on airplane and it has gone away.

For the other two machines, both W11,  how do I get rid of “ecs.office.com” and “config.edge.skype.com”???   1700 hits a day just by moa is wacky. There are a few for bing and msn.  Very very few.    I don’t use Office.  None of it.  Nor Skype.  Nor Msn.

I did figure out why the router was listed.  It’s for machines that the router assigns an address to.

Come to think, the Ubiquiti UniFi units I use for wi-fi have their address assigned by the router.  Why they are hitting each of “unifi.dlinkrouter” and “unifi” almost 4000 times a day is something I need to solve.  I need to find the UniFi directions, I haven’t touched the settings since installation about ten years ago.

Something to putter with when it’s 103F outside.

The Starlink slab is suppose to be delivered via UPS tomorrow.  The eve mount shipped today.  The local wISP was dead this AM.  It came up enough to slowly check e-mail.  As of a few minutes ago it’s extra dead, my radio doesn’t have an IP address from their tower.  Just a few more days….

Montana does not have a lot of the particular demographic which drove Red Lobster into Bankruptcy with calls of, “Waitress! More bread!”

Endless shrimp wasn’t nearly the problem for the bottom line that the Cheddar Bay Biscuits became.
