Cool-ish to start but rapidly warming. Yesterday was mid-90sF before the rain came and it cooled off a little. Then it rained for a while in the evening and later. Dunno what the rain will do today, maybe stay away, but I’m pretty sure it will be hot.
Got up a bit late yesterday, then fixed my string trimmer and cut the back yard. I was so sweaty and hot after that, that I didn’t do much for the rest of the day. I did auction and internet stuff in the evening and went to bed.
Today I’ve got more of my normal stuff to do. Between being sick and being out of town, I’ve got 20+ days to make up. That probably won’t happen. Some stuff will just get lost or left undone. Some stuff really needs to be done though.
That stuff will be hard. One thing that needs doing, the canned goods I put in milk crates and have left standing in the patio need going through… two popped while I was working on the string trimmer. FOUL smells, hissing, and stink. Oh, the joy of poor storage conditions. Rusty cans and 90 plus degrees = pop and fizz… I’m pretty sure everything in the bottom milk crates is gone. Some stuff in the crates in between has rusted too, even though the whole pile is covered with a waterproof fabric cover. A “cool dry place” my patio is not.
That’s part of the prepping life though, replace what goes bad, rotate, and retire. There is a constant need to stack as rust never sleeps, and neither does entropy. Stuff is damaged, stuff ages out.

Monday, June 15. My guests are gone, it was great seeing them, a very pleasant weekend for me. Since it’s been at least five years since I had overnight guests I worried the experience might’ve been a bit rough for them, but I think it went OK.

The last time we had a gig in Kentucky, we were invited to stay at some famous historical mansion. When we got there, none of the rooms had bathrooms. You had to share a separate bathroom. The place smelled of that musty smell at Grandma’s old house. We turned around and found a local hotel.

I’m not sure if they’re doing the new Rolls Royce re-engine project stuff out here or not.

i think there are air frames left, but the most recent a/c had wing mods where they removed ailerons in favor of fences. As I recall Boeing quoted NASA something like 25 million to re-wing the B-model 008 in the mid 1990s (they passed on that), so it’d probably be like 100 million today.
There’s a pretty good size fire right now in the middle of a solar field anout 4-5 miles away (downwind!) from my place, approximately. Saw it as I was coming back from town. The light white smoke is indicative of grass fire, but some clouds are pretty black stuff which is probably electrical equipment, maybe the transformers and panels.
There’s a lot of fire equipment heading that way, I have no idea what the protocol is for something like that. Probably deenergize, firebreak, and let it burn out. It is only about a mile to suburbia.
Mildly interesting, you could see a number of dust devils delineatedby the smoke about a half mile down wind. I wonder if fields of panels cause more dust levels than usual out here?

I got bored and cleaned the bathroom. More than the usual scrub sink and toilet. I even cleaned the mirror and the light bulbs over the sink. Removed the toilet seat, it’s a Kohler and snaps onto brackets mounted to the toilet. Took it outside to wash. Half filled a bucket with warm water and a drizzle of Lysol and grabbed a dish towel.
The floor is tile and they cut floor tile to make the baseboards. Seemed proud as punch that they painted the cut edge with wall paint. Gray or off-white? Who cares.
It looks nice. I’m not a fan of the gray tile. I’d rather have a tan like every other floor in this house. Someone else picked the color. I did get the heated floor I asked for and we used the pedestal sink I bought for the house in Austin. Only sat in the box out in the barn for almost 30 years. It’s a nice looking bathroom.
Under the towel racks, for some reason, the top edge of the baseboards turned dark. Dust, for sure. But this didn’t happen next to the sink or by the door. Maybe it’s dust along with dander falling from bath towels. I’m guessing. All clean now. I used an old toothbrush for the corners.
It didn’t smell. Never has smelled. Now it has a whiff of Lysol. So, smells clean.
The a/c just turned on. First time today at ten to five pm. It’s not sunny today, mostly looks like it might rain.

Well, one of the Surface Pro v2 tablets I picked up is working. OS is 8.1. Forgot how horrible the tiles interface is since I’ve installed classic start menu on all my machines.
It was set up with a user account but the password hint was “5678” and when that didn’t work, “1234” did.
Need to install some stuff, like firefox, and delete a ton of “apps”.
I think I’ll leave it as tiles for now, considering it is a tablet.

Since M$ shut down the online music database that Music Player used to get CD info for ripping, and since you can’t CHANGE that to another database (sh!tty programming or sh!tty corp policy, the end result is the same, I get screwed totally unnecessarily) I haven’t been able to rip CDs for a while.
I’ve got a big pile and a day of “indoor” stuff to do so why not?
I’ve tried several alternatives. Today I tried fre:ac free audio converter.
It seems to be working, and it’s FAST, but it does take more interaction than WMP did. You have to select ok to accept the track data, and you have to click on ‘rip’ to start the process. I had to change the destination, and the output file name/folder/etc to match my existing. Biggest gripe so far is that it doesn’t eject the disc when done and I can’t find a setting to do so.

After that, well, you can only sleep in one bed, etc etc. Conversely, when you look at utility, the increase in, for example, financial leverage for investing increases faster than the actual wealth. I don’t know if there’s an upper limit to that, but so far there doesn’t seem to be.

One of my uncles was the bombadier-navigator on a B52D and then a B52G back in 1970? to 1995?. His B52D went into the lake at Carswell in Fort Worth, TX back around 1980 when the pilot hit the brakes and the front brake line blew out, They bailed at 80 mph on the runway before the plane hit 300 foot deep lake. The plane had a “special” on it. No reversers on the D model.
The Air Force brought in 300 MPs and they surrounded the lake every 100 feet or so all night until they got a crane there in the morning. They were coming back from the Bering Straits.

The north pond at the office picked up a foot of water today. We got a monsoon from 10am to 1pm. Much more than 2.5 inches. Another foot and the north pond will be overflowing into the ditch into the Rabbs Bayou into the Brazos River.
The south pond at the office has been overflowing for a week now. But it has almost 10 acres of watershed feeding it.
Not enough walkin’ ‘round money made it to the level of the local community organizers.
The neighborhood race pumps were probably counting on a stadium deal at the Soldier Field site just a few train stops north which looks unlikely now.
