Fri. May 2, 2025 – 5022025 – lots to do today…

I’m expecting low 70sF and overcast. The national map shows weather in our part of Texas, rain and thunderstorms. We’re still a bit on the south side of the system, so we might not get it if stuff blows up from the Gulf. I’ve got stuff to do no matter what happens with the weather.

Yesterday was a nice day. Weather was good, sunny and hot. Some overcast. Maybe some rain some where in Houston, but not for me. Overcast in the evening.

I ended up rescheduling my client visit to next week. He went out of town, so wouldn’t be sending back the gear today anyway. That opened my schedule to watch the kid get “recognized” at school, and later to make some noise and smoke. That lightened my mood. Picked up the kid from school, did the kid taxi routine, and made dinner.

Fit in some other domestic bliss too.

Today I’ll be unloading the scrap I put in the back of the truck, then hitting a couple of estate sales, while doing my pickups. I’ll be making a big loop on the north side of Greater Houston. The main item is the solar panels, but the other things will go on stacks too, or in my “to be sold” pile. I’m buying less, but there are still things popping up that I can use or need.

Keep your eyes open. With the China trade war going on, the supply chains will be disrupted again. It may be the secondary economy is the only place to buy what you need.

Or shop your stacks…

Turned some money into noise and I feel better.  … Call it a mental health break…

Recoil therapy, or aromatherapy? 🙂 Cheaper and more fun than a p-shrink or a p-sycho.

UPS gave Amazon a DISCOUNT.  They should have never given Big River a discount.

I suspect Union vs. non-Union is the driver of those headlines.  As long as Amazon’s AWS subsidizes the retail shopping, too.

AWS tech isn’t as kewl as it used to be, and even Amazon servers come with vendor lock-in.

70F and looks like the sun might poke thru.   Got over 1.5 inches of rain at the BOL, where storms blew thru last night.  Nothing here though.

Feeling a little off today, probably the stuff I took for  the muscle spasms in my back, it should flush out soon enough.  Should have taken it just after dinner to give it more time to clear.

@denis, the aromatherapy comes later with a bottle of Hoppe’s No 9…

Lunch and coffee are made, time for a nap.

College football teams have a payroll now. God help us all.

The cable TV industry in the US will ride sports programming all the way down.

And don’t think for a second that you are free of the obligation to pay for the nonsense if you have Sling.

Probably Not The Best Idea For The Nationals To Have Their Fireworks Night On The Same Day As “Pups In The Park”

    Heh.

In other news I tried to use the little Eaton scanner to listen to a ball game on an AM band: sadly the noise floor for static is so great that you can’t actually make out the announcers, even with everything turned ‘off’ in the house. If I take it to the middle of a nearby field you can hear a little, but it would be impossible to listen to for long.

Growing up in the 60s and 70s the AM bands were for listening to music.

Mmm. Banana esters. I reckon if Hoppe’s made an aftershave, it would sell like hotcakes. I might even be tempted to deviate from my Old Spice…

Here is the genius Dan Gelbart explaining, en passant while talking about sensors, what the advantage of FM over AM radio is. (It is about blocking out noise).

Let’s try that again, with the link…

Arguably, this doesn’t just affect basketball, but the NFL’s expansion plans as well.

The NFL wanted to put a team in San Marcos with Coach Pop as a minority owner at a minimum, but the Spurs haven’t been winning in a significant way for a while.

Coach Pop would bring the wine to the football games and the celebrations on Sixth Street afterwards.

Poured down buckets while I was inside with D2 getting some awards at her Tues/Thur hobby meeting.   Big puddles on the way home.  Now it’s coming down again…

It’s a lot worse north of here though.
