Cool. Even cooler than before since a front blew in yesterday. We got two bouts of heavy rain, but they didn’t last long. Soaked everything twice though. Today is supposed to be clear, and it’s still getting hot in the afternoon. We’ll see.
I didn’t get much of anything done. I did order the doors and a set of shelves for the laundry room/pantry project. IKEA’s website sux the ded bunnies. And they’re not cheap. But it will be delivered today, sometime before noon. That’s better than if I went to the store myself, especially since they only had the stuff in a store in Round Rock. I’m not making a 5 hour round trip to save $30 in delivery fees. Clearly there are some weird logistics and fulfillment issues when it’s quicker to get a delivery to my door than pick stuff up at my local store, or even the nearest ‘in stock’ store. Part of teh sux is that their site showed all the items in stock at my local store. But I can’t pick them up there.
Anyway, I felt really weird most of yesterday to the point I went and had a lie down for a while. I think I’m allergic to D2’s Homecoming flowers. When I’m in the kitchen, my head feels very strange, full, buzzy, lightheaded and dizzy but not really?? And I feel better when I’m away from the bouquet. I don’t want to throw out the kid’s flowers, but I’m pretty sure they are making me ill.
I did get a little cleaning done, and read for a while.
Today though, I’ve got stuff to do while waiting for the delivery, then a couple of pickups. I should do more decorating too. Hopefully the rain is done.
Being part of the community is a prep. And making things fun for the kids is too. These are the good old times.
But I won’t forget stacking either.

@Nick
Move the flowers and put a HEPA filter in the kitchen.
Take a couple photos of the flowers. If you feel better having moved them, get them ID’ed and figure out which are causing you problems. If they are the source of the problem you do not want to be running errands and have those same flowers getting the vehicle with you.

Nick, are you sure you aren’t allergic to D2? Out of an abundance of caution, you’d better get rid of her.
And D1 is always sick. You don’t want her to pass any crud to you, so better get rid of her, too.

Real estate varies by market, but generally I think you are correct. We purchased our house in 2010 for $330k. Today zillow says its worth almost $600k. That is down about $50k from the height of the crazy valuations. I still think it’s way over valued. I look at my primary residence different than most. I don’t think of it as an investment. To me, it is a bad savings account. Better than renting, for me, definitely. When you actually look at how much you spend to maintain a house? You are lucky to break even in normal times.
Houses in our neighborhood are selling slower. Most I’ve been watching lately sell in 90 – 120 days on market. Big change from a year ago where a new listing never even made it to having a sign in the yard.
We are planning on staying put until retirement. The exception is if there is another crash like 2008. I can still sell ours and make money as we bought close to the bottom of the last crash. We shall see what happens. It will have to be a really good deal on a new place though.
– impressive isn’t the word I’d use.

All but one of the Mississippi Monkeys has been hunted down and shot like escapees from a 20th century chain gang.
It’s being reported that the last surviving member was interviewed by CNN and vowed not to be taken alive, but the interview will not air. After the talking head made some snarky comment about “well duh, they don’t want you alive”, said monkey bit him and beat him to a pulp on camera before running from the studio screaming “Monkey Lives Matter, you specist hypocrites!!!”

In not-quite-worldshaking news: my tomatoes and eggplants have started producing again.
This doesn’t happen every year but we have had a long mild fall, with temperatures going from the low 50s to the low 80s daily, and they seem happy.

“The Armageddon Inheritance” by David Weber
https://www.amazon.com/Armageddon-Inheritance-David-Weber/dp/0671721976?tag=ttgnet-20/
Book number two of a three book space opera military science fiction series. I reread the well printed MMPB published by Baen in 1993, my book is the sixth printing from 2009. This is my favorite SF series of all time as I have reread it eight or ten times now. In fact, the binding of my book has broken since I have read it so many times. This book has sadly has gone out of print as a standalone book. But, the omnibus is still available as a new book:
https://www.amazon.com/Empire-Ashes-David-Weber/dp/141650933X?tag=ttgnet-20/
And the first book in the series is still available new:
https://www.amazon.com/Mutineers-Moon-Dahak-David-Weber/dp/0671720856?tag=ttgnet-20
55,000 years ago, a Fourth Imperium Utu class 2,000+ km diameter planetoid, Dahak hull number 177291, dropped out of Euchanch drive due to a supposed failure. Dahak and his 250,000 person crew were headed to a picket post for forty years at the edge of the Milky Way Galaxy. It had been 7,000 years since the last genocidal invasion of the Achuultani, a race who periodically swept the Milky Way of all life, who had destroyed three Imperiums and countless civilizations. But the FTL drive failure was not a accident, it was sabotage. And the mutiny that followed exiled the mutineers and crew alike on Earth, the third planet of the Sol System.
Today, the unmanned picket posts are warning of the imminent invasion by the Achuultani. And Dahak is not receiving any warnings by hypercom from Central Command. Dahak is transmitting a warning to Central Command now as that capability was restored when Colin MacIntyre defeated the mutineers. So, Dahak and his new crew of 100,000 Terrans are going in search of help after offloading most of the space battleships, the two massive industrial rebuilders, the space cruisers, the space pinnaces, and the space fighters to help the Terrans fight off the Achuultani scout forces, a force of well over 10,000 twenty kilometer to forty kilometer long cylindrical battleships that want to destroy all sapient beings.
I do not know why this is my favorite SF book and series of all time. I think that I like the standup position of the chief protagonist, Colin the First. Or that there are so many different species of intelligent space races. Or that the book is written so tightly, especially when compared to Weber’s later works. Or that an self aware artificial intelligence shares the main protagonist job in the book, much like Heinlein’s “The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress”.
I keep on hoping that David Weber will write more books in the Dahak series but, I doubt it. He did write the Safehold series which is along the same lines as this book, overpowering space aliens and self aware artificial intelligences. BTW, there is an ending to the Safehold, Honorverse, and Dahak series that David Weber wrote as joke:
https://web.archive.org/web/20211128164744/https://forums.davidweber.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4078&sid=e6322fa55d3aaf53b9dfd49f72db54c7
Here is my 2006 review of the book: “Great sequel with awesome space battle scenes. The story line is solid and the awesome battle scenes are just the icing on the cake. Plus, I really enjoy dual scene stories.”

“Federal judge wildly oversteps her bounds with Border Patrol commander in Chicago”
https://www.theblaze.com/news/federal-judge-wildly-oversteps-her-bounds-with-border-patrol-commander-in-chicago
“A federal judge has ordered Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino to wear a body camera while conducting operations by Friday and to personally see her every day to provide updates on the arrests of illegal aliens in the Chicago area.”
“Tuesday’s decision by Judge Sara Ellis was in response to supposed violations of a restraining order on the use of tear gas. Tear gas had to be deployed during Border Patrol operations in recent weeks because crowds of locals became violent with agents.”
This is just wrong. The judge is not the supervisor of ICE.
The Dahak series remains my favorite, which I have re-read multiple times.
I had great hopes that Weber would reproduce the feeling I had while reading this, when he revisited a similar theme in his later Safehold series.
Alas, it was not to be. Although the first few books looked promising, the unnecessarily female protagonist (BTDT with Honor Harrington), the diversion into cyberpunk, the endless digressions into politics, and the glacially slow plot pacing destroyed it for me. It’s taken him 10 big books to cover the same ground as Heirs of Empire, Dahak #3.
If he ever finishes Safehold (and I would guess he’s emulating G. R. R. Martin), I’d pay good money for a Reader’s Digest abridged version. I’ll say it could be reduced by at least half. Until then, that series and all other Weber works are dead to me.
It is crazy. A judge orders a Fed to appear before her every week day, just because. She used the justification “Halloween is Friday and I don’t want ICE using tear gas anywhere kids. If you do, I’ll take it away from you.”
This is so far above that judge’s power, ICE should not show up and continue arresting crimmigrants. Pop CS on the crimmigrants just to piss off her highness.
My daily carry is the Ultra version. I hope the next iteration is a 4-banger adding a red light.
Judge Dingleberry has made her ruling; now let her enforce it.

“It’s been reported that Turkey is to buy 20 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft from Britain.”
“What struck me at once was the minuscule size of the order. Twenty fighter aircraft is a drop in the bucket compared to the Turkish Air Force‘s existing combat aircraft fleet, which includes well over 200 F-16’s. Furthermore, if the quoted figures are accurate, an ₤8 billion order averages out to a cost per plane of ₤400 million apiece – a ridiculously high amount, even if it includes future support and training expenditure. To make matters even more confusing, Turkey is developing its own stealth fighter to replace its F-16’s in due course. The Typhoons are no better technology than the F-16 – so why buy them? What’s going on?”
Yup, a bribe.

If federal SNAP benefits are being illegally given to illegal aliens by rogue states, then that money needs to be clawed back. Immediately, as in deducted from any monies nex scheduled to be paid from fedgov to those states.
If the coverup extended to the federal level, the perpetrators need to be prosecuted. How about “conspiracy to commit theft?” Make them personally liable for every nickel. Fire them retroactive to the first illegal act, clawback salary and remove any federal pension benefits.

“Stagflation Is Back—And the Fed Is Asleep at the Wheel” by James Hickman
https://www.schiffsovereign.com/trends/stagflation-is-back-and-the-fed-is-asleep-at-the-wheel-153793/
“This is crucial. During the pandemic, the Fed created $5+ trillion in new money. Poof. It’s the equivalent of England debasing its currency in the 1540s… and all that new money triggered all the inflation we’ve experienced.”
“Quantitative tightening is the reverse of that process; in addition to raising rates (starting in 2022), the Fed also began reducing the money supply and draining some of that money out of the financial system.”
“At this point they’ve removed about $2 trillion out of the $5 trillion that they printed. And the original plan was to keep going and reduce their balance sheet.”
“But that seems to be no longer happening. So stopping the quantitative tightening, combined with interest rate cuts, will really invite a LOT more inflation.”
“And all of this is happening just as the labor market is beginning to falter. White collar jobs in particular are being slashed at an astonishing pace.”
“There’s a term for this– one that economists don’t like to use very much. But it’s called stagflation– a shrinking economy combined with higher inflation.”
“America has been here before– most recently in the 1970s.”

“The health research nonprofit KFF said the average increase in premiums for ACA plans will be 26 percent next year, based on data for “benchmark” silver plans, which are the midtier plans in each region that most people purchase and are used to set the subsidy amounts.”
Whoof ! I had heard 20% increase but 26% increase is amazing.
The subsidies haven’t been passed yet. That’s what the shutdown is about.
Short term borrowing is expensive right now. The insurance company and big hospital C-suites will have a temper tantrum if they don’t get the subsidies.

Ok. Instead of going to bed like I planned, I said some bad words and messed with the toilet. Not in, with.
It’s a Kohler toilet. Don’t know how that affects the flap situation for other brands. What it has for a seal is all smooth. It doesn’t leak, I turned the water off the other night and the tank was still full the next morning.
Yah, me, too lazy or cheap to dribble in some food color? Your call. I myself go with “lazy”.
Still getting that damned high pitched noise. It comes and goes. Turn the the sink faucet on, it stops. Stomp on the floor in the right place and the noise stops. Well, it must be the water valve.
The water valve is Fluidmaster. With a red cap. Doesn’t do the “press down and twist” thing. I figured it out. Raise the arm and then you can twist.
I did remember to turn the water off. I only look like a retard.
There was some PVC “sawdust” for lack of another word in the valve. The stuff you see when you hacksaw a PVC pipe. I did not cause this.
All water to the house goes through a filter before it goes through the water softener. So this “sawdust” is from when the bathroom was remodeled or when I had the disposal in the kitchen removed and the under sink valves replaced.
Under sink. Sounds German. Untersink maybe. Of course I have the gender and tense stuff all messed up.

There are approximately 20 million illegal aliens in this country that are embedded like ticks to a varying degree. The 2 million that have left or are on their way out represent the low-hanging fruit. The 20 million may be more difficult to remove, but that is balanced by the experience gained and the operational improvements made by the removers. The illegal resistance of the judicial branch will also decrease as the black-robed woke either make the decision to abide by the constitution and keep their jobs, or get removed.
As illegal aliens exit, the real estate market might have a chance to cool off. Further cooling could be affected by opening up U.S> forest to logging and making lumber prices fall.
1.6 million illegal aliens took the carrot in the form of $1000 payouts and plan tickets. That option is going to go away, replaced by bounties on their heads and on their assets. The stiff fines for remaining after orders of removal are already in place. Augment them with incentives to for people to identify and report, and a whole new cottage industry will spring up.
Many jobs will disappear with the illegals. Future economists will identify 2025 as the peak in toilet cleaning in California. many jobs held by illegals will readjust to market wages. Roofing and drywalling will have lots of openings.
The shutdown has exposed inefficiency and corruption. The EBT budget will be reduced by half as the federal government audits and removes illegals. Loss of that income will increase pressure to self-deport.

The gardener has the toll tag for an equally steep discount on the 91 express lane from Riverside to I-5.
There will be lots of other fallout, in California and other states. Some of it will fall on people who have been gaming the system and don’t deserve any sympathy. Some of it will fall on people who are innocent. It’s going to be a mess in many ways.
But the United States is a sovereign nation and part of the definition is being in control of our borders. Biden and his Democrat Party have treasonously conspired to undermine our sovereignty–as well as our safety and security–in a mindless, reckless, and dangerous attempt to illegitimately seize power and keep it. These are the same people who have destroyed our educational system, driven many cities to the verge of bankruptcy, fomented insurrection, encouraged racial hatred, been willing puppets of other nations, and imported enemies of our country to assist in their crimes. We have a slender chance of defeating them without open internecine warfare and we’d better go all in before we are faced with worse options.

For decades TPTB have moved jobs offshore to lower cost labor and easier business conditions. Where they couldn’t move the jobs to the labor, they brought the labor to the jobs with legal and illegal immigration.
In the process they have gutted the middle class.
The middle class is increasingly aware and unhappy about that.

“Trump Orders Department of War to Start Testing Nuclear Weapons Ahead of Meeting With XI Jinping”
https://thelibertydaily.com/trump-orders-department-war-start-testing-nuclear-weapons/
“(Just The News)—President Donald Trump on Wednesday ordered the U.S. Department of War to immediately start testing U.S. nuclear weapons just ahead of a meeting with President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China.”
“The U.S. largely stopped full-scale nuclear testing in the 1990s, with the last underground test at the Nevada Test Site in 1992.”
“Maintaining the U.S. nuclear stockpile is expected to cost nearly $1 trillion over the next decade. The Department of War’s and the Department of Energy’s plans to operate, sustain, and modernize existing nuclear forces and buy new weapons are estimated to cost $946 billion over the 2025–2034 period, or an average of about $95 billion a year, the Congressional Budget Office estimated in a report in April.”
Wow.
The meme “that could be my daughter or granddaughter” is a very effective play against Republicans.
If she gets squished on video by an ICE vehicle, the game will be over for Trump and Noem.
