Another great day. At least weatherwise. Today should be just as nice. Mid 80sF in the afternoon, but fairly dry, and some clouds in the morning. More please.
Yesterday ended up being a bit weird. I really didn’t get everything I’d hoped to do done. Called it a day early so I could cook dinner (pre-wuflu pork chops.) Everyone was in a mood though, and I spent most of the evening ignoring everything and everyone.
Grump.
Today, maybe I’ll get some productive work done. I’m waiting for delivery of my client’s speakers. I’m hoping to install them tomorrow, but we’ll see. In the mean time, the list is long and my patience is short.
But I’ll soldier on because that’s what we do.
That and stacking.

Tuesday. Good morning!
Short schrift today. I have an early lunch appointment, and have to head out soon.
I hope everyone’s mood has improved. I blame the daylight savings gremlins. Everyone is in a grump for a couple of weeks. I certainly am not my usual jolly self.
Speaking of jolly selves, I am liking SteveF’s novel addition to Robert’s law of meetings. I have been in too many where the Chicken Boy hammer ought to have come out…
Grump? Who me?
Have a beautiful day!
Drivers. WHQL orphaned a lot of legacy hardware, but newer devices, especially HID or multimedia, will have a Windows driver.
The modern ATMs have touch screens and check scanning cameras so embedded Windows is really the only option at ATM volumes.
I know the AWACS console simulator used to train the controllers runs stock Windows. I interviewed with the company twice in Vantucky.
All of the controls were plug in USB HID, and Logitech had an engineering facility right next door.
Or in Round Rock. Lockheed Martin spent four years digging the foundation and pouring the walls for the first phase of this place.

I’m very familiar with that legacy building in the center of the complex.
My guess is that Trump wants the ballroom open ASAP, at least a year before he leaves office.
The family no longer has the Post Office under their control for events in DC so the facility will be extremely busy once open.
Pr0n. Most people did not have cable modems at home until the early 2000s. Fiber from the phone company was a 2010s thing.
The fastest DSL I ever personally used was ~ 30 Mbps in the Issaquah Heights at my crash pad outside Seattle in 2012. Those lines were intended for Microsoft Campus 2.0, which would have hosted the OS and Languages pieces of the company under the split ordered by the courts.
Okay, not everyone was into pr0n. At GTE in the 90s, a girl from the post-“Liars Poker”/Warren Buffett era at Solomon’s Tampa back office blew her way into a support job in our product with zero experience/knowledge just so she could day trade on GTE’s Internet node which landed in our downtown building.
I think she blew the CEO at some point before both were fired in the mid 2000s by the private equity who took over that division.
To look at her, you wouldn’t believe she was the type or that she was really “box of rocks” dumb. Bachelors and Masters in IE from a “good” school and lots of lung power will get you far in Corporate America.

Turns out there is an easy way to search within every pdf in a folder. Adobe Acrobat Pro and Foxit Reader (my choice) will let you select a folder to search.
I had 23 docs in my Downloads folder containing the word “catalytic” and 10 of them were invoices from auction companies.
I’ve printed them and now should be able to sell the pile of cats I’ve collected… granted, not for the big payout, but I’ll still get 3x to 5x my cost back.

Half the World’s Oil Comes From Just Five Countries
Venezuala produces under 1M barrels of crude per day. I’m so old that I remember when they were a major producer.
What a BS statement. To begin with, “outsized” is an editorial word. The rest is nonsense in the literal sense. Three countries produce 40% of the oil. Their influence is completely appropriate. They are almost HALF of the supply after all. Should a country with 1/100th the volume have influence?
If Oman set prices, that would be “outsized” influence.

More news on the BIL situation. The family is looking for a facility to place him. Not to move him immediately, just to find something acceptable, which will be necessary within a few months.
He sometimes comes out of his locked room where he keeps his stuff, his wife has no access, with a bat or crowbar. There is some fear he may attack his wife thinking she is a stranger. He has already run through the house thinking there is someone in the house and wanting to attack the person, that doesn’t exist.
All the guns have been removed from the house and given to his oldest son. His four kids are arriving on the 17th of April, the day after we arrive, to go through his stuff and take what they want. Which is probably a good plan. It also indicates he may accept his issue but I am guessing and don’t know. It may be his wife pushing this function.
Since they are in the process of searching for a facility, they need to know about the $269K that the wife’s mother specifically stated is for her son’s care. That amount of money could make the difference between a dump on Medicare, or a decent facility with self-pay.
His wife will be moving in with one of their children and will be renting that house to help pay for the facility. That indicates to me there is already a money issue. Having access to the money for the BIL’s care may change those plans.
The wife and I have decided the best course of action now is to talk with the oldest son and inform him of the money. She will ask him if he is willing to take control of the money and use it for his father’s care in a facility. If he says yes, we will then inform the BIL’s wife of the existence of the money. The explicit instructions of his mother must be followed. No legal requirement, but a moral obligation, something the wife and I take seriously.
If the oldest son says no, we will try with one of the other three children. If that doesn’t work, I have no idea what to do as I really don’t want to be paying part of the bill for a facility, then having to stop because the money runs out. I could get stuck for several thousands of dollars as the facility may then consider me personally responsible for any costs of the facility.
It is a bad time to make the trip to Texas with the price of gas being what it is. I expect to use about 150 gallons of gas, which works out to almost $600.00.

“Adding insult to injury, Spanberger has moved to rejoin the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, a carbon pricing program that her Republican predecessor Glenn Youngkin exited on the grounds that it drives up energy costs. She has done this in a state where Dominion Energy rate hikes already took effect on January 1, reflecting in part the costs of transitioning to offshore wind under the Virginia Clean Economy Act — costs that fall, as energy costs always do, most heavily on those least able to absorb them. Boeing has meanwhile announced plans to relocate its headquarters from Virginia to Missouri, a symbolic and substantive blow to the business climate Spanberger inherited and is now actively degrading.”
I went out to give the chickens some chopped cabbage (as noted a few days ago, Grandma has been chopping lettuce and cabbage as part of her therapy, so there’s lots of chopped greens) while waiting for a remote computer to finish.
The birds clustered around, of course. Normally I’ll hold up leaves and let them jump to tear off a piece because it’s supposed to be better “enrichment”. -shrug- Doesn’t matter to me. Except that I wasn’t able to just hold it up and let them jump because it’s in small pieces, so I just grabbed a small handful and let them grab a mouthful.
My hand was emptied so I got another handful. Bully – the largest of the latest batch, who uses her size and mass to get priority access to treats — tried to get some, but her mouth was already full with the previous mouthful. She wasn’t sure what to do about this conundrum and just stopped dead, mid-reach. Eventually she started chewing, finished what she had, and got more.
Chickens are not very smart, as a general thing.

Me, do anything strange in my software ? Pshaw !
Everything I do in my software is strange. I have an Fortran 66 interpreter embedded in my software using byte chain instructions. One of my customers has over 10,000 lines of really nasty code in it that takes forever to run since it is interpreted even though the flashes are machine language.
I have software kills all over the place seeing if the user is legit, shoot nobody has managed to get past this version finally. I have self modifying code that really does work even though execution is banned in data spaces since Windows 7, 64 bit may kill this code though. My user interface is really a CAD engine that just looks like a diagramming toolkit.

“Supreme Court sides with therapist in challenge to Colorado’s ban on “conversion therapy””
https://www.scotusblog.com/2026/03/supreme-court-sides-with-therapist-in-challenge-to-colorados-ban-on-conversion-therapy/
“The Supreme Court on Tuesday sent a challenge to Colorado’s ban on “conversion therapy” – treatment intended to change a client’s sexual orientation or gender identity – for young people back to the lower courts for them to apply a new standard. By a vote of 8-1, the justices agreed with Kaley Chiles, the licensed counselor challenging the law, that the ban discriminates against her based on the views that she expresses in her talk therapy. A federal appeals court, Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote for the majority, should have applied a more stringent standard of review, known as strict scrutiny, to determine whether the law violates the First Amendment as applied to Chiles.”
“But the Supreme Court also strongly hinted that the ban would fail that test. In his 23-page opinion, Gorsuch stressed that in cases like Chiles’, Colorado’s ban “censors speech based on viewpoint.” Because the First Amendment “reflects … a judgment that every American possesses an inalienable right to think and speak freely, and a faith in the free marketplace of ideas as the best means for discovering truth,” Gorsuch continued, “any law that suppresses speech based on viewpoint represents an ‘egregious’ assault on both of those commitments.””
I am seeing a lot of Free Speech bans on doctors and other medical professionals since The Koof years. This is not not constitutional and is not even medically sound.
We have no plans to spend any nights in a hotel. We will use Atlanta and our friend’s house as a stop. That leaves 12 hours to our first stop. I have a ghost on my LAN. 192.168.0.139
Where and what is 192.168.0.139 ? It’s a busy thing. Trying to connect to “baby.squeezenetwork.com”. So I know it’s a Squeeze Player. It’s not the living room, that only has power when the stereo is on. The Radio is turned off. I know the addresses of the other two players.
And….. it was the Radio. Even powered off it was trying to connect to squeezenetwork.com. Logitech turned it the site off a couple of years ago. I think. Never used it.
I found a site. https://homehack.nl/community-firmware-for-squeezebox-touch-radio-controller/ that tells how to fix this. So I did. Walked into the dining room and the Radio said there was a firmware update. Seems to have stopped the baby.squeezebox noise.
Magic.

It really isn’t. “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof” is not as straightforward as “shall not be infringed” but it can be understood by anyone with a normal reading level – that is, anyone whose brain has not been warped by one of the elite law schools.
The only tricky part might be dealing with the tens of millions who were incorrectly granted US citizenship over the past sixty years. I would say that if they’ve lived here, worked, speak English fluently, and kept their noses clean, let them keep the citizenship. If not, revoke it and deport them to their parents’ home countries.
Well, not so long ago a world-class aerospace company had a huge corporate HQ complex in St. Louis. I believe Boeing still owns all the buildings, move-in ready.

“Junkyard Riders (Junkyard Cats #5)” by Faith Hunter
https://www.amazon.com/Junkyard-Riders-Cats-Faith-Hunter/dp/162268186X?tag=ttgnet-20/
Book number five of a five book novella science fiction series. I read the well printed and well bound POD (print on demand) trade paperback published by Lore Seekers Press in 2026 that I bought on Amazon. I am hoping for more books in the series but I kinda doubt it.
The book is set in the not so distant future, probably 2060 or so. In 2043, thousands of Chinese Mamabots advanced into Seattle from the ocean, creating and deploying Warbots to kill the population. The Mama bots self replicated and spread across the USA and then the world, killing off most of the population with their warbots, starting “The Final War”. The Mamabots and the warbots have been mostly taken out, mostly, using antitank weapons and blasters, but there are many still in hiding.
2060 is highly different from our time. There has been a severe population crash due to the bots and the lack of water. There were dark matter WIMP engines for the space ships that the Bug aliens shot down. There are the Bug aliens that forced The Final War to stop. And Shining Smith has a crashed Bug space ship that the Bugs are looking for.
Shining Smith has turned her junkyard into a motorcycle club roadhouse, welcome to any and all except the Dark Riders, a government funded group. And the Dark Riders are gunning for her due to the word spreading about her survival. People now know that she is alive and no longer hiding from the rest of the world.
Shining is one of the few known survivors of a bicolor ant swarm, who infected her with their nanobots. And she is a survivor of The Final War that started when she was 12. There is video of her killing a Chinese Mamabot in Seattle by dragging a bomb into it when she was 12.
BTW, the nanobots are freaking me out. The fact that Shining Smith is infected and shedding nanobots all over the place is a horrifying concept. And she has infected her junkyard cats who use the nanobots to communicate to each other and her. And she has infected the people who work with her but none of them shed nanobots like her since she is a “nanobot queen”. The infected are her thralls with varying levels of compliance and self awareness.
BTW2, the junkyard cats are motivated by protein. In 2060, protein is short as much of the world has turned into deserts due to dark matter WIMP bombs ripping away the stratosphere. Dead humans are protein according to cat rules. Don’t get jumped by five cats, you will end up as protein.

No, it’s not. Not difficult at all.
If my parents had been in Europe, say, doing tourist stuff in England or Germany or France, and I decided to arrive early. Because maybe Berlin is so beautiful in springtime. I wouldn’t be German. Even if my parents were in Germany legally.
‘Cause that’s the thing. You don’t get to be a citizen just for being born in the USA when your parents swam the river and are here unlawfully. Parents are from Mexico? You are a Mexican citizen, not American, certainly NOT a hyphenated Mexican-American with dual citizenship.
The children of Ambassadors and the ilk are not US citizens. Why do illegals get a pass?
And the whole passage taken in context is pretty clear that it intends to cover anyone present in the US when it was passed, ie slaves, indentures, and anyone who emigrated.
They could have solved the issue by saying “at this time” or “for the next year” but didn’t.

“In Pieces? SpaceX Mysteriously Loses Contact With Starlink Satellite”
https://www.pcmag.com/news/in-pieces-spacex-mysteriously-loses-contact-with-starlink-satellite
“SpaceX says Starlink satellite 34343 ‘experienced an anomaly on-orbit’ yesterday. Satellite tracker LeoLabs has since detected ‘tens of objects’ around the satellite.”
“The incident occurs about four months after a separate Starlink satellite, 35956, experienced a serious malfunction involving a propulsion tank that caused it to tumble back toward Earth and eject debris. It’s unclear what caused the malfunction, but an image of the satellite showed it remained mostly intact. The satellite later burned up in the atmosphere as it de-orbited.”
“All Starlink satellites can maneuver and are designed to disintegrate upon re-entering the atmosphere, though in rare cases, small fragments can survive. SpaceX currently operates over 10,000 active satellites in orbit and has long talked up its commitment to space safety. This includes introducing a space traffic control system called Stargaze that’ll supply free data about all the objects floating in Earth’s orbit.”
Oops.
This is SpaceX’s business model. Move fast and break things. They are incredibly successful using this model.

Secret Hideout has control of all things Trek until the last episode of “Starfleet Academy” and “Strange New Worlds” air.
All new production has stopped, however.
Secret Hideout turned down Tarantino, who offered to make a “Star Trek” movie outside of his self-imposed 10 film limit which, according to sources who have seen the script, would have put a twist on “A Piece Of The Action”, making the corrupting influence on the Iotians a library of 70s exploitation films instead of books about gangsters.
BTW, Tarantino has announced his last project, ironically a 30s gangster miniseries co-directed with Sylvester Stallone and using period-appropriate production equipment.
Its a long way from “Party At Kitty And Studs” for the Italian Stallion.
@lynn, it looks very well presented. They paid for the extra photos, and the photos are well lit. Lots of keywords. The only thing missing from a buyer’s perspective, and most don’t do it, is SIZES for the clothes and boots.

The oldest son of the BIL has agreed to be responsible for the money. My wife talked with him and was told the BIL’s wife is very worried about how they would pay for BIL’s facility. The BIL’s wife will not be told the money exists until we arrive on the 17th. The oldest son thinks she will be relieved, rather than angry, the money was kept from them both.
The oldest son has questions about taxes on the interest, whether the IRS will question the money, etc. The company he works for, Cisco, has a legal office that the oldest son will contact about how best to handle the money. I will just be glad to be out of the loop come September. I will have to keep $1,500 of the money to cover my taxes on the interest on the certificate.

“
CouldWill Texas Remove Excess Technology From Schools?”FIFY
But better yet:
“Will Texas Remove Technology Designed by Godless Communists to Destroy the Intellectual Development of Texas Youth?”
No cell phones. Not even on the bus.
No laptops or variants. Google is evil and an instrument of Satan.
Spec a standard telephone message center for parents to use.
Far be it for me to suggest violins, but it seems to me that a lot of judges need a good, hard smack in the crotch with a cheap one filled with concrete.
Providing those laptops are rice/soup bowls for a lot of people, starting with the bond ghouls who supply the money.
Those glowing screens have too many distractions on them.
– it’s not JUST that. It’s very hard for parents to know what is being taught, to look for bias, or appropriateness, when there are no books. I can’t pick up my kids’ book and read it. I can’t see any of their lessons, quizzes or worksheets, unless I look over their shoulder while they are doing it.
To add insult to injury, the school book cartel makes the district buy books ANYWAY to access them electronically, we just don’t get them.

A overly definitive statement applicable primarily to science fiction shows in the same “Wagon Train in Space” vein and becoming less applicable as the premise varies. In an era of endless boring repetition in the movie begets sequels begets reboots ad nauseam, it’s easy to understand the claim.
It’s like saying all cars look alike. Most do–some don’t.
Hard to see much ST: TOS in Doctor Who, Farscape, or Stargate that isn’t simply common ancestry. Fantasy did not start with Tolkien and science fiction did not start with Star Trek.
The biggest failure of modern science fiction television is the inability to produce 24 1-hour episodes per year even with advances in digital video and special effects. The transporter dissolve of the TOS was a painstakingly slow effect with a turnaround of a couple weeks. Now you can supply two photos and do it the Adobe hard way or the AI easy way in seconds.
“Providing those laptops are rice/soup bowls for a lot of people, starting with the bond ghouls who supply the money.”
Most of them are commies and putting them on collective farms would be appropriate.
Putting them in the soylent green processor would be appropriate, and it would be less damaging to the next generation.

“abstraction ceiling” a term I’d not heard before, from of all places, a video on modern dating and testing your partner to see if they can think. Seems it’s a popular idea in some circles (the concept, not testing a partner.)

I think I should get a shower and get to bed. I had limited success working my list today, and I’ll be at my client’s tomorrow, so limited time for the list. Then it is Thursday and on Friday we’re headed out for the weekend. Time is FLYING past this week.

This Colion Noir video is worth a look. Canada is trying to do what the left here wants for us too. I’m a bit shocked at how far they’ve gotten.
I wasn’t paying enough attention

Not that long ago, there was rhetoric floated about training and arming federal civil servants for “national security” reasons. Putting them under DND jurisdiction, and hypothetically making them available as door knockers under the auspices of national defense.
Apropos of nothing, Alberta recently passed the number of signatures required for a referendum on the future of Alberta in Canada.
Still up. Having a snack. I’m hungry, so I decided to eat something. Glucose monitor says I’m empty, or at least not seeing a rise in blood glucose level after returning to my baseline post dinner.
Which was lamb chops, grilled, with broccoli and naan bread. Six little chops isn’t really enough for the four of us anymore, without several sides. And I didn’t make several sides. And it has been 7 hours. I shouldn’t be surprised I’m hungry.
This is part of my new ‘awakening’ to the fact that a lot of my base behaviors are programmed, not inviolate. Like not eating after heading to bed. Or taking one shower a day. or not sm*king in my vehicle to protect its ‘resale value’.
I’m still not gonna spit into the wind, or tug on superman’s cape, or pull the mask off the ol’ lone ranger… but if I want icecream or a snack, I’ll have some.
And I’ll head back to bed, because I’ve got a lot to do tomorrow. I mean today.
