Moist. Maybe precip, but certainly moist. There were times and places yesterday when I had extra moist hitting my windshield, but barely more than a wipe or two was needed before the moist just dropped to swamp level. And there were places with the sun poking through. I think we’ll see more extra moist, and less sun today.
Did my pickups, did some other things. Cleared my Monday so I can spend time at the rent house by getting one thing done today.
Now I’m sleeping in. Then I’ll work the list. Yep. Plans. We’ll see if they survive contact.
And there will be working to improve, and possibly stacking, but certainly there will be sleeping.

“Does half a pint of HEB Cherry and Chocolate qualify as a small bit ?”
Yes. Any amount with”half” in the title is small, but “quarter” is even better, thus is you convert “half a pint” to a “quarter quart” it’s even better. Continuing to a “sixteenth gallon” is probably overkill, but an “eighteenth peck” has the advantage of obfuscation.
The best way to handle this is to get a large glass bowl for your ice cream and have the various scales laser-etched for easy reference.

@nick: for the next/previous’ box colors, try adding this “additional CSS’ to the theme via the ‘additional theme’ area. Put this code at the end of any existing ‘additional CSS’ code.
The changes will adjust the color of the link text so it is visible on the light blue/cyan background of that box. The text color will be ‘bolder’ on a ‘hover’, and if the links have been previously visited, the link text color will be dimmer to indicate that previous’ visit.
This should allow that link text to be more visible with the background color of that box. You can try adjusting the text colors ‘rgb’ values if you don’t like white/bright-white/red.
Hope this helps.

Ole’ Snakehead. I feel sorry for his wife having to live with this foul-mouthed old PLT. He can’t croak too soon.
My EGO chainsaw died. In the middle of cutting down a dead cherry tree. The saw was cutting, then quit. It sometimes happens if I put too much strain on the motor. I was not putting too much strain this time and the saw just quit. Battery indicated 1/2 charge, tried another battery. Nope. Just dead.
I went to Lowes to purchase a new saw. My dead saw is a 14″ blade. A new 12″ saw, big enough for my uses, by itself, no battery or charger is $279.00. A 16″ saw by itself, no battery or charger is $249.00. I don’t need another battery and I really don’t need another charger as I have five of them.
However, a 16″ saw, with battery and charger is on sale for $219.00. The prices are crazy. I got the 16″ saw, and will probably throw the charger away. The extra battery is OK but now I have five batteries. Two of them are 5.0 Ampere Hour, three of them are 2.0 Ampere Hour.
Just the battery alone for the new chainsaw is $199.00, only $20.00 less than price of the chainsaw, with charger. A blower, with a 2.0 Ampere Hour battery is $199.00, with charger, for the same price as the replacement battery at $199.00.
At one time I looked into getting an EGO ZTR mower. It has six (6) 6.0 Ampere Hour batteries. The batteries last about five years. Replacement cost is $389.00 for each battery. Multiply that by 6 and the cost is a whopping $2300 dollars to replace the batteries. I can buy a lot of gas for $2300.00. I currently pay about $75.00 a year for lawnmower gas I need the unleaded stuff. For the cost of those batteries I can go 31 years on gasoline.
I was up at 5 AM fixing a pull request with AI generated code which another group wanted to put into our Git repository in a hurry yesterday. The AI code worked, but the LLMs have an obsession with mutexes around global variables, even statics inside modules, which effectively turns C into Go.
The LLMs also like “goto”.
There goes your compiler optimization and, at runtime, speculative execution. Plus any hope of maintainability outside of using an AI.
God help us all.

At the in-laws. I always end up doing “handyman” odds and ends here. One of today’s was a strike plate/retainer thing on a patio door that needs replacing. It’s a cast part, with a spring-loaded insert that has worn out.
There was a trademark on the visible side, and when I unscrewed the unit from the doorframe, also a number on the reverse. Internet is magic – one search for both, and I had the original manufacturer’s website and the item as a replacement part. A few more clicks, and it will be in the post on Monday. Internet is magic.

Ego batteries are crazy expensive, and ever crazier here. I really want two of the 12ah batteries. US price for a pair is $1100. Here, they cost $1050 each.
I realize they make their money with the batteries, but the prices are nuts. And the batteries don’t hold up all that well over time, which is likely intentional.
In my experience, wrt lithium tool batteries,
Craftsman and Black and Decker die early and easily. 90% of them in the auctions look brand new but won’t charge or hold a charge.
Dewalt work well and for a long time, but are very easily killed by “just one more screw” or “just one more gust of air”. Put them on the charger the first time the machine shuts off. If they are hot, let them cool down first.
I never see or use the Kobalt batteries.
I’ve never used the ego but if I could get some, I’d try using them as power banks. The toro battery for my mower looks like an ego battery, just different colors and it works well.

If you want to see what Ozempic does for you, Google a current picture of Kelly Osbourne (Ozzy’s kid). HFS, the flesh of her face is completely gone. Oprah was stumbling around at some fashion hoo-haw overseas, showing off her weight loss (Ozempic). She’s 72 and looks like she could croak at any time, but she’s finally skinny. Demi Moore looks like Demi Skelitore.
Once you lose the fat, you need to eat tons of protein and stop the Oz or your body will eat your flesh next.
We have a female consultant who lost 60+ pounds on Ozempic. Her doctor said you need to stop the Oz and start eating a healthy diet, or you are going to die. She gained all the weight back in six months.
It is not worth it. My Mom was overweight her entire 91 years of life. The Oz is going to take 20 years off your life.
You’ll look good in your coffin, tho.
I did the Pi thing today. Installed the program from the Pi folk that puts the OS on your SD card. Read the documentation just because. I leared that external USB drives auto-mount. That’s nice.
And got cold feet. What if it doesn’t work? Ah…. finally set up the TV table and put the spare monitor on it. Connected everything, mouse keyboard, HDMI for video. Turned the Pi on. Blinky lights on the Pi. Num and Cap locks worked. Mouse was lit up.. Nothing on the screen. What the heck? Tried a different HDMI cable. Nothing.
Said some bad words.
I swear that when I plugged the monitor into power it flashed its logo. But it’s a fairly new “extension cord”. I used the power cord from a dead UPS and attached an outlet box to the end. It’s not exactly long but five feet is enough for what I want. SO….push the monitor’s plug all the way into the outlet.
Sometimes I wonder how I manage to remember potty training.
So far the Pi works. I set a fixed address. I’ll reboot to see if it sticks.
Now to d/l SlimServer.

It is interesting watching the Redumblican Party splinter and fall apart. I currently don’t think they can take the mid-terms. It will be a song and prayer if they keep what they have. They can’t even get it together to pass the SAVE Act. How are they going to beat the Dumbo’s who vote lockstep?
At least we have tRump for three years. Keep deporting crimmigrants, blowing up cartels, and eliminating terrorist countries. If we skate and get Vance or Rubio, maybe ICE can still do it’s job.
oooh, there is some thunder rumbling. Not too close but we are seeing sporadic drops of moisture from the sky.
Not enough to keep me from refreshing the rat poison bait boxes. Did about 7 boxes. I’m sure there are more waiting as I didn’t even go in the attic. As warm and moist as it is, I’m staying out of the attic. I’m sweating just sitting in my office. Of course my office is the warmest room in the house at 78F.
Changed some wiper blades because I noticed the rear on my expy was worn out. Changed it with the spare from under the back seat. The weird thing is that old and new were 11″ but the online sellers all say 15″. It might fit… changed the 18″s on the Ranger with 19″s that I got cheap somewhere. The extra ½ ” doesn’t run off the window or hit anything so that is ok. Kid drove away to a weekend sleepover before I could get her rear wiper changed. The honda has a weird arm so I have been just changing the rubber blade using either a new one or an old one in better shape and cutting to length.
Did the tiniest bit of cleanup in the driveway. I’ll do more if it stops raining tomorrow. W still says we’re due for a gully washer. Meh. Day’s over so I don’t care.

It’s here!

Trump is, I think, clearing the decks to replace Thune, who is from SD. But Kristi Noem is ALSO from SD, and might make a really good primary opponent to Thune in 2028. So Trump can give Thune both a carrot and a stick; get the SAVE America Act passed and into law BEFORE the March runoff, and Trump would endorse RINO Cornyn. (Paxton agrees that would be worth it.) Then Trump can fire the useless Blondi, and appoint Paxton as AG.
If Thune refuses, or can’t do it, then Trump campaigns HARD for Kristi Noem in 2028. I suspect that Elon Musk has an extra billion or two that he could devote to that effort.
Either way, Trump campaigns HARD for the R senate candidate against Talarico, who seems to me to be a very beatable.
And Trump and Musk need to work HARD to primary EVERY RINO this year and in 2028.

I tried Grok, asked it a question about memory leaks with images and Objective-C that I had years ago … it got the correct answer, and even suggested a way to do it with Swift.
Interesting.
“The honda has a weird arm so I have been just changing the rubber blade using either a new one or an old one in better shape and cutting to length.”
We replaced blades for years. Nothing wrong with the frame. But then the next generation became too flippin’ stupid to use a tape measure, courtesy of the public teachers unions.
Two different NAPA employees told me they quit carrying the blades because they had too many returns. Now they sell the blade and frame and make a lot more money. Notice how the packages are made so they slide apart? I suspect most people don’t even get that far–they can’t get the old one off, and end up paying a shop $80+ for two new assemblies when they could do two blade replacements $10.
I suspect that the beam-type frameless blades were developed to be idiot-resistant and more profitable.
Reminds me I have to pull a couple blades out this weekend and swap them out. I bought a twenty-year supply when NAPA closed them out. I just buy cars to match my blade inventory.
To be fair, a lot of the increasing stupidity is a combination of the Idiocracy effect and the importation of tens of millions of people* from parts of the world not known for their intellectual attainments.
* Calling them “people” merely as a courtesy, in many cases, because “subhuman scum” sounds mean.
re the wiper blade replacements, I don’t know the last time I’ve seen just the blade for sale in the auto parts stores – Advance Auto and AutoZone, mainly. Replacing the entire “cartridge” at about $30 each is the only option. I guess I could look online, maybe RockAuto.
The Myth That Wind Farms Are a Guillotine for Birds Is Being Debunked by Hard Data
https://www.zmescience.com/feature-post/technology-articles/sustainability/renewable-energy/birds-and-wind-turbines/
Very transparent propaganda piece.
The concern is not about wind turbines killing birds in general. The concern is with migratory birds and more importantly large raptors. Golden eagles have been specifically impacted and documented.
Outdoor cats may kill 2.6 billion birds each year, but that’s ZERO golden eagles. Domestic cats have selective vision, either hereditary or developed after one encounter with a large bird like a goose or a turkey. Cat looks out the window and doesn’t see them at all. There’s probably a small but non-zero number of cats that are snatched by golden eagles each year–keep your kittens inside.
The writer of this piece of idiocy is a co-founder of the site. A quick scan shows that this type of unjournalism is apparently the norm. Propaganda for hire? Author claims “Ph.D. in geophysics and archaeology and has completed courses from prestigious universities (with programs ranging from climate and astronomy to chemistry and geology).” Band a drum. Or a gong.
Another of the co-founders writes that criticism of solar panels as not being able to produce energy without sunshine is unfair, because coal-fired plants can’t produce electricity without coal. That one claims to be a mechanical engineer.
Neither of these clowns mention the schools where they got their degrees. Based on the demonstrated quality of their thinking, I’m guessing it took a lot of stamps to get those documents mailed from overseas.

The key word is “refill” which I carelessly left out of the previous post.
Trico is the brand that I associate with retail displays when I was growing up. They are available at O’Reilly and Amazon.
Part of my early car care instruction included changing windshield wiper blades, putting the old blades back in the package (if they weren’t already destroyed), and putting them in the trunk as a backup in case a wiper blade was destroyed. In the worst case the total loss of a wiper blade would put the frame in contact with the windshield and score it. If you didn’t have a spare you could get by with having the remaining blade on the drive’s side and using the electrical tape that was a required prep in the tool box to temporarily cushion the frame from the windshield–if you could get to stick in the rain.
Nowadays I am rich and carry a new set in the trunk. Mostly.
The connection between the wiper arm and the wiper frame was seldom taken apart in those bygone days, and was not the simple task it is now–if you have a little experience., or can rad and understand the tiny print on the universal instructions.
The other night when we tried to go to dinner at firstborn’s place of employment but ended up at another restaurant, they had Michelob Ultra Zero as their only choice for N/A beer. Since I want to encourage the stocking of N/A beers I ordered one.
It’s a mild flavor like a smooth inoffensive US lager, and very mildly sweet. I like it. It’s not bitter like all the IPA style N/A beers, nor is it just sweet malt, like one or two. It’s not a great beer, but drinkable in place of beer. Light and non-alcohol, and no strong offensive flavor. I’ve had several now and I’ll probably get more. It’s definitely good enough for a summer michelado, or with dinner.
FWIW, I think Becks N/A is the most faithful and ‘beer’ flavored. St. Pauli probably comes next, then Heinekin’s version. There are a variety of imports that are all better than the domestics, but have ‘flavor’. I think a certain amount of hoppiness is in most of them to cover the lack of alcoholic bite. I prefer malty to hoppy, so just my opinion.
Guinness falls FAR short of the mark, although their newer N/A is miles ahead of their old offering – Kaliber.
Any of the euro imports are drinkable, and all rate above the major US brands. Some more boutique US brands might have what you like as they offer IPAs and wheat beers as well as lagers.
If you are looking for beer flavor w/out the alcohol, there are now a whole bunch of choices. Now there is NO EXCUSE for the foulness of Odouls to even exist.

I really need to order that PhD in Chemical Engineering from a diploma mill. Many of my customers call me Dr. Lynn already.
My dad stopped telling people that he was Dr. McGuire when he was around 50. Too many people thought he was a medical doctor.
Hmm. Sober living? Maybe not.
When the rain stopped I took the dog for a walk. He doesn’t like to go outside and do his business when it’s wet, so taking him for a walk should empty him out.
We walked a dozen blocks and I saw some flashing lights. Several power company trucks in one of the neighborhood cul de sacs. My power did blink, and there must have been a bigger problem at the edge of the subdivision. They were there until midnight, so an hour, maybe two. I couldn’t see what they were doing though.
After the walk I finished my tiny little fire sitting out by my water feature. About 15 minutes to midnight, one of the guys next door comes walking home with a bag of groceries. About 15 minutes later, an SUV pulls into their drive and a guy meets the driver, takes a small bag from him/her, and goes back inside. Doordash? A review of the camera footage says no. Small bag, no markings. Hmmm. Delivery at midnight on Saturday. Small unmarked bag.
Then at 1241, another car drives up and one of the residents parks and walks up the drive. We were told they had a 9pm curfew. Guess not.
I think I’ll move hanging the additional camera up the list. I’ve been putting it off for a time when it wouldn’t be obvious, but maybe mid-morning is least obvious.

I’m in for the night. Time for a shower and bed. I just need to finish my snack. Julienne raw turnip with salt (tastes a lot like jicama that the hispanics eat and I like it a lot), couple ounces of cheddar cheese, and an ounce of sliced ham. Might be TOO low carb to get me thru the night.
