Thur. Dec. 12, 2024 – 12 12 24 – and 12:24 when I wrote this…

By on December 12th, 2024 in culture, decline and fall, march to war

Another cold morning, warming slightly later. I’m hoping for clear sky and dry-ish. At least not raining. National forecast looks good for the next few days.

I spend yesterday doing my thing. Did some auction stuff in the morning, then did some pickups. Got the kid from school. Headed back to the house. Did some work on the Christmas decorations. Had to get changed, and then get myself back to the other kid’s school for recitals… and then home again.

Lots of to-ing and fro-ing when you’ve got kids in middle and high school, especially if they do any activities, or want to watch the “yummy” boys play sportsball… or study with friends, or any of a dozen things. I had no idea what my dad went through to pick me up from school 5 days a week when I was doing afterschool activities. At least I only have to drive a couple of miles, he was driving 13 each way, after driving 30 to get home from work. It’s no wonder they bought a car and let me drive the carpool to school.

——-

My TV repair parts arrived from China, 7 days early. Add fixing the TVs to my list of stuff to do.

——-

I’m going to try to get to my rent house today and make the repairs there. Kid is staying after school for tutoring, so that gives me more leeway if something goes wrong or takes too long. Of course I’ve got other stuff to do if I go to that part of town. Hit the secondary to drop stuff off and pick up a couple of things. Hit the Lowes for parts and supplies, etc… It’s fractal.

Like life and prepping, there is always something more to do, something else to do, or something to re-do.

I’m just not keeping up. I know what the problem is, I’m not leaving the house to do the stuff. And I’m not doing the stuff if I’m here. I’m working on that though.

Always be working.

And stacking.

I think the Westpoint story is a nothing burger. Some incompetent employee did a crappy job of looking up old records. Shouldn’t have happened, but people do screw up.

More concerning is the Naval academy fighting for the right to continue race-based admissions. That kind of crap has got to stop. Lots of other progressive policies also need scrapped, or at least re-worked. I started a list, but it was getting out of hand. Let’s just say: No fruitcakes. No free rides.

You assume that Naval Academy admission is otherwise a pure meritocracy which it is not.

Every Congressman and Admiral receives an appointment IIRC, and the candidates for appointment are not always shining academic stars.

John McCain is the poster child for academy nepotism. He graduated in the bottom five of his class. Not five percent. Five.

Ubuntu and Microsoft finally worked out whatever EFI disconnect they had between Ubuntu 24.10 and Windows Boot Manager.

I came home yesterday to find my primary laptop booted to the Ubuntu login screen. Microsoft probably patched something in Windows and triggered the reboot, which correctly read the EFI partition instead of starting the Windows Boot Manager.

The dual booting via Grub hadn’t right worked since I upgraded the Linux partition in October.

That laptop spends most of its time booted to Windows so it wasn’t an issue for me, but, with Linux, wait long enough and the problems eventually get fixed.

Yes, she gave $450k to the Clinton Library shortly before the pardon, but I doubt that is what got BJ’s attention.

It’s a dirty job but someone has to do it. McCain probably brags about being on the bottom and rising through the ranks.

In retrospect I graduated at the very bottom of my class on Sperry computer operations. I should also mention I was the only one in the class so I guess I graduated at the top, and the bottom, of the class. Suck it up McCain.

This is true. I had my Congressman’s appointment to the Air Force Academy. Then, he was voted out and the new guy nominated someone else. That was one of the best things that happened to me. I had plenty of “Academy” graduates as peers and  I wouldn’t trade my public school ROTC education for that life. I ended up as only a mere Army helicopter pilot.  Inside every chopper pilot, is a jet jockey trying to get out. LOL.

Well, the only thing he is sucking up these days is probably brimstone.

I had to go full “Kobayashi Maru” in GTE corporate training at one point in order to remain n the program. Operator precedence in C is a weak point, and the instructors kept hammering that to try and wash me out.

I don’t know where I graduated. Probably in the middle of the class of 12

My undergrad grades were mediocre, but I pulled a 4.0 for my Masters.

Boeing needs a single aisle variant.

We flew on brand new A220s to/from Boston. Airbus builds those in Mobile, in a facility which would have been busy building tankers if Boeing hadn’t thrown a fit after losing the contract initially.

Boeing finally “won” the tanker contract after forcing the Pentagn to reopen the bidding.

I heard that through another source. Jerry was a hugely valuable source, but in his absence, his historical posts have less and less relevance.        https://www.amazon.com/Trek-Epic-Survival-Darwins-World/dp/1719878196?tag=ttgnet-20/

Book number two of a five book science fiction series. I read the well printed and well bound POD (print on demand) trade paperback that I bought new on Amazon. I have bought book three in the series for reading soon.

In the 25th century, humanity has solved all problems and even created machines for time travel and parallel universe travel. But, they caused a new problem, humanity is dying out as people have lost the will to live.

So the future scientists are bringing forward dying people from the 20th century, restoring their bodies to their 20 year old age, and transferring them to a Earth 4428, a parallel world going through the end of the Pleistocene ice age. With nothing but a few tools and the clothes on their backs. Survive or die in the primitive conditions of what will be the southern USA but there are lions, big cats, mammoths, bisons, dire wolves, deer, elk, short face bears, grizzlies, etc. And chest deep snow in the winters.

Matt and several others were deposited by the futurists into what will be the eastern portion of Texas. They have decided to move to the western side of Texas and closer to the Gulf of Mexico to hopefully reduce the number of slaver attackers and the terrible winters. But moving hundreds of miles using human powered travoises and carts is not easy without roads and bridges. And constantly watching for predators or prey to eat.

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Amazon rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars (306 reviews)

“The DOJ inspector general said Thursday that while no undercover agents were at the rally, 26 confidential human sources – or paid FBI informants – were in Washington that day. Not one was authorized to break the law themselves or encourage others to do so. Yet, as many as 17 did break the law.”

I wonder how many of the informants encouraged other people to break the law ?

Moderna has a “Emergency Use Authorization” mRNA RSV shot they’ve been pushing heavily for the last couple of years.

mRNA is not approved tech. 10-15% of the population is still part of the Control who did not get their jabs as ordered.

Physical media is still popular overseas, and I don’t think it is as dead as portrayed in the US.

When the big surprise cameo in “Deadpool & Wolverine” drops his money line, that isn’t a throwaway quip.

That movie series was not nearly as huge in the theaters as it was on DVD, and there may indeed only ever be one actor who plays the character.

As with most money transfer apps, the sender takes more risks. With Cash App I’ve seen both $JohnSmith and JohnSmith$, one being a scam ID. Have the sender send you a one dollar transfer and see if everything works as expected, if so, rinse/repeat for the rest of the funds.
