But like the rest of the days, hot and humid. If the weather front sticks around it might be wet and a bit cooler, which would be welcome. Lots of people around Houston got rain yesterday but all I got were a few sprinkles. Barely enough to get the pavement wet. The grass is pretty crunchy and brown where the sprinklers don’t hit it.
I did some stuff on the list, but mostly computer stuff, and a lot of barely productive time was spent on our site outage. Still no idea why wordpress puked, or why it recovered. I hadn’t made any changes at all, and if it was a plug in, IDK why any issue resolved itself either. I did clean up some minor things like broken links and typos on rarely visited pages. And I always learn something when I am forced to poke around. I should spend a little time on my hobby site considering we just had our big annual event. I’ll add that to a list…
Today I’m sleeping in a bit, then I’ll do some things. What things will depend on weather, but the shop or stuff around the house will probably be top of mind.
Stack useful things.

Happy Skynet Day!
Happy Skynet Saturday!
Brunch with W1’s family, then the next leg of our travel homewards.
Going as far as the BOL today. I will offload some of the holiday impedimenta there, including my two magnificent “new” Swiss Army toolboxes, plus our bicycles, bike accessories, and the bike carrier.
Sad that the holidays are winding-down, but soooo looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight. I have identical mattresses and slatted under-frames at both base and the BOL, so each is my own bed!
I learned a new thing today. Thanks!
This one time at band camp…
Windows on Arm still depends on Qualcomm’s junk CPUs.
Meanwhile, Chipzilla hasn’t been idle with 18A up and running, and the new Linux 7.2 kernel enables Wildcat Lake SOC embedded systems at 8 GB where that kind of RAM makes Windows puke.
I have a Chineseium off brand 8 GB Wildcat Lake laptop running as a science experiment now. The goal this weekend is to get a Linux 7.2 kernel into the Fedora 44 install.
The laptop does have a Windows 11 Pro license, but that’s fairly useless.
“Terminator 2” is in theaters this weekend for the 35th anniversary of the film.
It should be as part of a double feature with “Aliens”, celebrating 40 years this Summer, but The Mouse still hasn’t learned the lesson of “Get Woke Go Broke” and wants to emphasize the 20th anniversary of “The Hunger Games” starring Jennifer Lawrence as the first woman to headline an big budget Summer action movie.
Cough.
20 years!!!???
I keep thinking, “I must watch that new Hunger Games movie”…
My bad. 2012.
Still, “The Hunger Games” gets the big media blitz regarding Jennifer Lawrence as “the first woman action movie headline star” next weekend.

I didn’t know that a new movie was in the works.
I can’t talk about everything I see and hear on the job, but the bloom is off of Arm, even for embedded purposes.

Sure you can. All you have to do is change your display name to Tyler Durden.
Heh, yeah. Read the books at some point, entertaining b-list stuff, just no urge to watch.
I actually find books easier to concentrate on than movies.

I always heard that “an ill wind no one blows good” quote attributed to Danny Kaye, talking about oboes.
A little research says the attribution is unclear, and has been aimed at French Horns as well.
It is the lyric of a song, song buy Danny Kaye, and includes a reference to an oboe, but all that means is that it may be older than I thought. And the rhyme may have needed “oboe”.. I have never heard that song performed.
The internet exists for little rabbit trails that eat up my time.
Thanks for the link to the Rosenberg’s theater group.
Found another theater group: Playhouse 1960. Outside the loop in Houston, NE of me.
Awful website, confusing seasons, but next year they’ll do “The Drowsy Chaperone”, my son’s favorite musical. He gets paid to be a rehearsal pianist and pit performer on keyboard, guitar, or drums, but he’ has done the performance part free on that one.

Well, I’ve been up for a while. Ate some breakfast, drank some coffee. I tried some Black Rifle coffee, and while it was good it wasn’t extraordinary or something I’d pay a premium for. Kinda lacking in depth of flavor.
Perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised that the Starbux Cafe Verona Dark roast I’m drinking now is pretty nice. They make and sell a LOT of coffee.
Sunny and hot.
No real interest in working outside today.

A Calculated Betrayal of America’s Working Families
https://hotair.com/headlines/2026/08/29/a-calculated-betrayal-of-americas-working-families-n3818449
An article last week that I can’t find this minute alleged that H1B visa jobs paid 16% below market rates.
The next step in the analysis should have been to calculate the depression of wages that those below market rate jobs have. If 1 job in 50 in some fields is H1B and those jobs drag wages down 2%, the effective cost of an H1B position is less than zero.
That’s what I generally find with the expensive coffees: They’re good, but not worth 2-3 times the price of Dunkin Donuts (light roast) or Members Mark (Sam’s Club house brand, for dark roast). I buy only whole bean, which might affect findings.

Rick Beato talks about Dolly Parton.
You know Rick Beato was sincere when he played all those Dolly Parton clips, including entire songs, without worrying about demonetizing or copyright strikes.
He basically did this one for free.
All of the H1Bs I work with come from very wealthy families. What they are paid doesn’t matter to them.
Where management really scores is hiring someone with the Spouse Visa (I don’t know the official name).
The spouses, mostly women, will work cheap, but, in return, they expect a lot of consideration for family responsibilities, effectively part time employees.
If you don’t hire them part time, they will make the job part time unless you literaly audit the badge records and hold them to certain attendance metrics.
W1 favours Starbux House Blend Nespresso capsules. They have the advantage of going on special offer at Aldi from time to time, when she or I will stock up.
We noticed in Switzerland that the supermarket had both the Starbux and the original Nespresso capsules. Here, the Nespressos are available only at a Nespresso store or via online order.
Saturday bedtime. About to sleep in my own bed for the first night in three weeks. Hurray!
I can understand why Pavarotti travelled with his own bed…
Goodnight!
Hah, craigslist isn’t dead yet. I’m meeting a guy tomorrow to sell something I’ve had in storage for at least 6 years, maybe longer. He’s coming from San Antonio and hasn’t even tried to beat me up on price. I think if he shows up, it’s a done deal.
It’s currently over 100F in the sun, with no breeze to speak of. High 90sF in the shade. I’m so un motivated.
n
You didn’t mention size. If it’s appreciable, just think of the cubic you will be able to fill with preps.
I’m working my way through a DVD 6 pack of movies. “Detective Classics Volume 2”.
Really good stuff. Early to mid-forties movies. They are all about an hour long. Maybe 70 minutes.
No 10 minutes at the end of credits listing the guy at Subway making sandwiches and who drove him to work.
Just nicely made about an hour long movies. A complete story.
I’m liking the vibe. Go to the movies. Get some popcorn and a drink while the news reels and Looney Tunes and Betty Boop cartoons are playing. Watch the FIRST movie. Then, intermission. Pee break. Snack time. Visit with people. Maybe the theater has simple bowling alley food…. hot dogs and burgers and fries. And then you watch the second movie.
Two hours, maybe 20 minutes more, of movie. Plus about half an hour of Intermission slash Snack Time.
And the hour long movies are complete stories.
Seems nicer than most current movies that run two and half hours….

Proposal is acceptable.
The Walmart Breakfast blend K-cups are not bad. I keep for some reason thinking they suck. Because Walmart. But compared to a Maxwell House k-cup, in various roast flavors, the Walmart stuff is good. Perhaps better.
I have a lot of different brands of k-cups. All mixed together. I like the variety. Can I tell you which brand is best? No, I can’t.
But they taste different.
I fondly remember Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee from when I lived in a large city.a long time ago. I couldn’t really afford it, but I really enjoyed it. The first coffee I remember not wanting to spoil with cream or sugar. Still can’t afford it, but I might go find some anyway.
Or real Kona, not just Kona added to ordinary to increase the price…

Well, I spent some time fixing pictures and doing a couple of new pages for my hobby website. Maybe someone will see them. I usually get about 1 visit per day according to the metric tracker thingy.
Made cornish game hens for dinner. Stuffed them with apple, onion, and crumbled bacon. Barded them butter and bacon fat. Roasted for an hour while the mixed heirloom potatoes also roasted with onion and fresh rosemary from the bush.
Kings Hawaiian rolls heated up. Tollhouse break and bake cookies for dessert.
Tasted pretty good.

Just broke 90F on the way down at 9pm. Dunno if I’ll sit out tonight. Probably not unless it gets a bit cooler.

My hobby club made me store their new Blackstone griddle at my house since June. I was voluntold. I also keep the two crockpots and two big igloo coolers.
Today I got it out of the garage and fired it up for the third time since then. Think of it as rental fee. Hey, I keep it out of the weather.
Bacon was on sale at Heb this week and I found a 4 lb. pack of ⅓ lb. ground chuck pre-formed burgers with a 25% off sticker.
So I cooked 3 packages of thick cut bacon and 12 burgers.
I have no excuse for going off the carnivore diet.
Coincidentally, GF cooked a 3 pound shoulder roast with mushrooms in the (ours, not the club’s) crockpot.
ummmm, foooood.
I don’t personally think you can have too much. I get that you can sometimes have more than you could eat under normal circumstances. But you don’t know the future. You might have an extra kid or two, or a neighbor you’re feeding. And if you buy and store the right KINDS of food, the “before you can use it” part gets to be a lot longer.
90% of the people living on this planet can’t even imagine a reality where they had “too much food.”

More shiite to be tired of. This has literally been going on for decades, and is the reason that foreigners are over-represented in graduate schools, in management positions in corporations, and in teaching positions at universities.
Cancel the h1B visa program. If corporations need employees with those skills they can figure out a way to get them, such as make it affordable for U.S. students to go to graduate school.
One idea: Revoke the university’s ownership of patents issued on government-sponsored research, make them government owned again, license them out to competitive bids, and use the money to graduate school provide scholarships.
Another idea: Cap the overhead charges to research programs a uniform 10%.
“90% of the people living on this planet can’t even imagine a reality where they had “too much food.””
I’ve seen arguments that having enough to eat was one of the primary drivers for immigration to the United States before 1900.
The food shortages in the U.K. and Europe after WWII are not well-recognized in the U.S. They were barely mentioned in the olden times when history was studies K-12, and now that the communist scum has destroyed the study of history the “graduates” can’t even identify the conflict period or the combatants, much less anything with nuance.
USAID never did diddly to feed people around the world. To the extent that people are not starving as much it is due to carbon dioxide fertilization. Dial the CO2 levels back to 1850 and half the world begins starving in a few months.
I put together an Amazon Prime order earlier this evening.
One item was listed on Amazon as being a Prime Exclusive for $49.99.
The same item by the same seller is available on eBay for $27.99. Free shipping.

Colorado River Crisis Brings Major Cuts for California, Nevada, and Arizona
https://wattsupwiththat.com/2026/08/29/colorado-river-crisis-brings-major-cuts-for-california-nevada-and-arizona/
Historical records conclusively show that the present system of water allocation was put into place during a period of record rain and snowfall. The withdrawals are not sustainable, and neither is the population growth that has hugely exacerbated the problems.
I saw this meme this week:
https://ace.mu.nu/archives/IMG_7825.JPG
“When I see American citizens risking their lives on a raft made with rotten planks and plastic bottles, trying desperately to reach Cuba, is when I will believe how evil capitalism is.”
Yeah, when I seen aerial photos of Phoenix, Denver, Los Angeles and other water-short cities without vast acres planted to green grass and irrigated, then I will believe there is a crisis.
I’ve been predicting for years that a move will be made by the western states to tap water from the Missouri River. The trail balloons were floated in the 1970’s. If Trump were not president I have no doubt that it would be authorized by an EO and compliant courts.
A set of maps of the United States showing ground water levels at 10-year intervals from 1900 would be enlightening and frightening.
A white paper showing the reduction of demand for water and other natural resources, the reduction in air and pollution of all kinds, and the decrease in violent crime which would follow a sustained drive to deport illegal aliens and return legal immigration to a program to benefit the U.S. would also be desirable.
And while we are wishing, a federal law requiring the decommissioning of power generators where the power was used would be useful. Blue shiiteholes want to mandate wind turbines, they can figure our what to do with the used blades. Maybe they can get the whores at NASEM to claim that chipping fiberglass and epoxy for use on inner city playgrounds is healthy.
Temp dropped to 83F and there is a nice breeze so I had a very nice tiny little fire.
However. Too much sitting today and my low back is screaming at me. I’m taking a hot shower and going to bed. Meds have been onboard since 10pm so I should still be able to get up in the morning and sell sell sell.
n
Temp also dropped 10ºF+ in Vegas. It will be back, sigh.
