Perhaps another beautiful day. We had one Sunday, and most of last week. I’d like another please. Mid 80sF during the day, mid 60sF at night. Shorts and jackets, same day.
I spent most of yesterday with my buddy looking at his new store and options for cameras, displays, and networking. It’s an exciting time for him, and a great opportunity to grow his business after 13 years of hard work and dedication.
Today I’m headed in to share some of my hard earned knowledge with some middle school kids. In fact, pretty much all this week I intend to spend mornings with the kids, and afternoons dealing with my normal stuff. We’ve got about 15 class time hours, and a few more rehearsal hours to get ready for the show. That’s not much time. I’ll spend a few hours without the kids doing setup and maintenance stuff which will help.
This afternoon, I’ll try to get a pickup or two out of the way, and keep working on the cart and Halloween in between. Didn’t get anything done yesterday.
We live in the world and participating in it is part of prepping. Get out into your community and listen. Talk with people. Observe the world around you and how it’s changing. Be a part of it.
And stack of course.

Yes, yes, yes, and yes.
I read old posts sometimes by search and sometimes by calendar widget. Rarely by category because, as frequently noted, the real action is in the comments and the categories seldom reflect that.
Nice day yesterday afternoon, following an unexpectedly cold night which left the chickens’ water tank frozen. I let the hens out for an hour while I did chores and then was on a call with The Child, helping her with a Physics problem. (“Problem” in two senses of the word.) She reports that she’st neck-and-neck for top of the class (though it’s a small class so that doesn’t mean that much) but she’s still in the process of learning to think like an engineer (the main purpose of engineering classes, of course) and sometimes needs a noodge to, for instance, orient the starting point of angles correctly so the left/right and up/down forces balance. (sin 15 and sin 165 are the same but cos 15 = -cos 165)
Today is going to be a nuisance. Water heater needs to be replaced, as discovered by the guy who did the furnace maintenance. (He expressed surprise that the current one lasted 16 years, as the normal lifespan is 8-10. As the saying goes, I’m so old that I remember when 25 was the norm.) Of course, the household emergency fund has been depleted, not by me, and not replaced, so I need to pull cash out of the safe (to which the wife does not have the combination, lest that money disappear as well). Anyway, the main nuisance is that the water will be off for hours. I’d saved 100 gallons of water in 2L bottles for flushing toilets and such … but the water seems to have disappeared … because it took up space and we don’t need it.
And my wife wonders why I’m moving out. She realizes that she can’t stop me but can’t understand why I would.
BTW, been up since 0340. Ugh. After going to sleep after 2300. Ugh. I’m not blaming anyone. Grandma’s issues are no one’s fault and it’s not reasonable to expect her and the aides to be consistently silent all night. Still, ugh.
