Kid has an outdoor event so hopefully today will be like the rest of the week. Mild, sunny, and warm in the afternoon. That pretty much sums up the last several days. Still, it’s Houston so the cool is a damp cool and the hot is sweaty.
I did get some things done yesterday. Did my pickup. Made a run through Costco for school lunch snacks, Holloween candy, and some lunch meat snacks for me. Did some work on the cart. Heat is good for shaping the plastic sheet I’m using to replace the burnt up bodywork, but it’s some sort of slick thermoplastic not the PVC foam based sheet I thought it was. It will not glue with plumbing solvent. That means it’s not ABS or PVC. I’ll have to use a different glue or maybe mechanical fasteners, or maybe both. The Sikaflex panel adhesive I ordered SHOULD stick to it, and the plastic the cart body is made of. I’ll find out today if I’m lucky or not.
Plan for today is get up early and drive west to Fulshear for a pickup. It’s stuff for my hobby sale and for the BOL. Then drive two hours east to the other side of Houston for the kid’s event. If they do well, they are stuck there until midnight or 1am. Home around 2am at the latest. That’s a long day for the kids with about 14 hours of sitting around waiting. I almost wish they wouldn’t do well so they could be home around 7 or 8pm.
I’ll be coming home after the first thing, as I’d rather drive hours than sit for 6 and THEN find out I need to drive home anyway. It’s all to make it easier for the district, it really should be two separate days.
In between, I’ll try to do some more decorating, or work on the cart, or work at the shop.
Just keep swimming.
And stacking.

Awake. Have been for an hour. This does not please me. I’m going to make you all suffer. Not readers of this blog in particular, just you as members of “everyone”.
I was just going over plans for the day and realized that I’d made a major planning error regarding keeping the stupid chickens over the Winter and moving them to my other house in six months. I got a new run to replace the one which had gotten smashed up over the years and had planned to assemble it on the patio for Winter use. I had also planned to have a coop (the old one, disassembled, cleaned, fixed up, and reassembled) and run set up at the new place so that all I’d need to do was put the birds in a box, drive them up, carry the box down, and let them into the run to get over the trauma of driving and let them get used to the new place. Then finally bring up the other coop and use parts from the beat-up run to assemble new Winter quarters, at my leisure.
The problem with the current plan is that it requires the new run to be both here, keeping the birds secure and up there, set up and waiting for them. I’d been planning all this loosely for a month or two and in specific for a week or so and didn’t notice the problem until a few minutes ago. I may have mentioned a time or two that my brain isn’t working right. Sleep is needed, and sleep is what I’m not getting, as evidenced by the fact that I woke before 0300. Bah.
Well, I’ll think of something. Worst case, I’ll buy another run. They aren’t that expensive, but it’ll leave me with one that I won’t need for more than a day, which is wasteful.
Saturday. Good morning!
Good luck for and with the kid’s event.
Storm Austen is with us here. Strong winds and driving rain.
The migratory cranes must have been caught out by the weather. A couple of very beaten and bedraggled looking skeins just passed over the house, working hard against the wind. Poor birds.
I stayed in bed this morning, rather than go out in the woods. One rarely sees game during high wind events – the animals just bed down somewhere sheltered and don’t move. Which is what I am doing, only with central heating and internet.
A propos Internet and central heating, I had to reboot the router for the second time this week. I will have to see if Asus doesn’t have a firmware update to cure whatever is causing the instability. Either that, or I need to set the device to power cycle itself at intervals. Trouble is, when the router cycles, the central heating loses internet connectivity, so I can no longer control it remotely, which is unacceptable for the BOL. Perhaps I need to reserve an IP address just for the boiler so it doesn’t mess with dynamic addressing. Will investigate that.
To get the boiler to reconnect, I have to power cycle it too. When I do that, it loses its date and time, so goes into standby mode – no heat. No good. I will have to call the manufacturer and see why it is losing the time and date. No doubt a button cell on the motherboard needs replacing. That should have been done in the annual service, so will have to talk to the technician as well. Fractal.
Anyhow, have a good day!
