And hopefully it won’t be a scorcher or a gully washer. National forecast has us in the t-storm possible zone for the weekend. With the kid’s activities, it would be nice to not have the rain all day. Kinda like yesterday, some rain would be nice to keep the temp down, but not enough for flooding in the streets…
Did my things yesterday. Napped, then estate sale with crazy high prices, then two pickups over an hour apart, then more kid stuff. Last kid got home at 11pm.
Today starts are 515 with taxi for D2 and her friend to her school activity. Later in the day I’ll be picking her back up from school, then she’ll bring over some excited girls and do stuff here before the next installment of ‘my busy life.’ At some point in that W gets home and can deal with the girls.
I might take another pass at the estate sale as it’s close by and there will be some discounting. I’m sure it won’t be enough. IDK how this company set prices but I’m assuming google lens and the first or highest value returned. Twice ebay asking price in many cases. I’m interested in a box of 80s and 90s vinyl in great condition, mostly bands or albums I want for myself, but I’m not interested in paying more than ebay prices for them. IT’S ALL DISCRETIONARY SPENDING. No one NEEDS anything at an estate sale right this minute, no matter the cost. I’m suspicious of sellers who price very high. They are often scammers who will make a low ball offer for the stuff that’s left at the end of the sale, after purposely discouraging sales with unrealistically high prices. Then they sell it in another market, with reasonable prices but they don’t have to split with the estate and they got it cheap, because “clearly no one is interested in buying it”.
I might even ask some pointed questions out loud because I hate scammers.
In any case, it’s gonna be a long and busy day of other people telling me what to do and when. No me gusta.
Stack, it’s easier.

There, you see? So early even chickens are still asleep.
Headed out to drop the kid off. Then back to sleep.

Kid’s friend we were supposed to collect and take to school wasn’t answering the phone, direct to VM, so we were late. I’m trying to get the kids to understand that ‘on time’ is late and ‘15 minutes early’ is ‘on time’, but at 530am no one is buying it.
Dropped the kid off, 5 minutes late, then went by the friend’s apartment complex. Waited a few minutes, then tailgated someone in thru the gate, drove past the friend’s unit. No lights at all. Oh well, someone is sleeping in this morning. Too bad, she’s a good kid.

and now I’m back in jammies and back to sleep.

Good morning!
The Viennese chickens here were up, but out early. Birthday girl shopped so effectively that we need to check in an additional suitcase for the homeward leg tomorrow. Of course, to do that, one also needs the suitcase. I spotted a semi-disposable cheap one yesterday, so got out early to grab the last unit in the shop nearby.
The weather here is beautiful. Indian summer. We are going to take a tram to the wooded outskirts of town (Wiener Wald) and enjoy the afternoon with local wine in a Heurigen; a kind of pop-up tavern that the local winemakers open during the wine harvest. Life is hard.
Supper this evening will be Semmel und Schnitzel sandwiches. Last night’s sesame cordon-bleu Schnitzel at the Schnitzelwirt was so gigantic that we each took half home in a doggy-bag!
Have a beautiful day.
@Nick: no email from you?
I’ve passed along the recommendation for “My Cousin Vinny” before in this space.
We had to watch the flick for my Digital Forensics class in my first pass at grad school.
Antonin Scalia was a fan among other notable figures in the legal community since the film accurately depicts the expert witness procedure in the US courts.
Today is a sandwichy sort of day. Brunch is take-out from Duran.
Anybody else remember Duran Duran?
Movies were relatively cheap to make unless big star salaries were involved, and box office disasters could often find an audience on home video, HBO, and even network TV..
A lot of movies considered classics out of the 80s and early 90s were not big hits in theaters but eventually found their audience through tape rentals and cable. The most notable example is “First Blood”, the first Rambo movie.
One of my younger co-workers who is a movie geek asked me about the point of the extra 17 miutes of the “extended” cut of “Aliens” within the last few weeks, and I told him I always believed that the material was intended for the network TV broadcast of the film to substitute for the gore; I saw most of the footage when the flick ran on CBS.
Hooters was built on “girl next door” early on in Florida. The knock off chains failed to understand that as well as the national franchisee which recently went bankrupt.
Discussing the blow up of “Twin Peaks” in 1990, I remembered that was a terrible year for movies at the box office but a huge Summer for alternatives, network TV in particular.
The finale of the first season of “Twin Peaks” hit the air within the same week as “Resistance is futile” on “Star Trek The Next Generation”, followed shortly by the first four episode “season” order of “Seinfeld” — which NBC was deliberately trying to bury — and “Northern Exposure”.
“Star Trek” fired its writers room and the showrunners rolled the dice on the Borg working to save their jobs. The timing was excellent, but it probably didn’t look that way when the decision got made six months earlier.
A lot of cult classic films came out of 1990, but very few hits that found a civilian audience in multiplexes with the possible exception of “Presumed Innocent”.
I’d been awake for two hours by the time you posted that comment. My chickens had been awake for only about 15 minutes though. And only a couple came out of the coop right after I opened it. It was barely getting light, it was (and still is) chilly, and the ground was very damp. (Dew, not rain, for a change.)
I checked the site maybe 0515 Eastern time. Didn’t have anything to say so I didn’t say anything.
