Cool today to start, but then hot in the afternoon. Yesterday started at 64F, then 74F, then 84F and I’m sure we hit 94F in the afternoon. Today should be the same.
I got a few things done, but had the unscheduled need to take D1 to the Doc in the Box, and later the need to grocery shop and pick up her Rx. In between I did a couple of pickups. One of the more interesting was a 3M Speedglas welding hood for D1. It’s got a bigger glass and is about half the weight of my 30yo automagic darkening hood. IDK if she’ll end up taking a welding class at school, or if it will just be me teaching her what I know, but having a good hood makes it so much easier.
The rest of the stuff was medical bits and bobs, and stuff for the BOL.
In the evening we had a pep rally. W and I went but kept our distance from everyone as we don’t know yet if we’re infected with D1’s crud. I hope we can avoid it as I’ve got a lot to do.
Today will be Dr. Dad, and then my normal stuff for a Thursday. I don’t like doing anything serious on this day, any more than I do on Memorial Day or Veterans Day. I don’t let it paralyze me but it still affects me.
The world can change in an instant. Stack.

Turn off the feature? Yes.
With the a round of security updates from iOS 15 onward about this time last year, Apple turned off most of the iOS-watchOS communication features on the first series watch I inherited from my wife.
The problem with that watch was that the batteries tended to go ‘splody, and Apple quietly wanted them off wrists as the problem grew worse.
Now I have a last generation SE that I mostly use to monitor my sleep patterns.
I still prefer the first series “ladies” size, which is about the same as my lone pricey mechanical watch.
The replacement, also “ladies” sized, is only slightly smaller than my daily wear Casio Edifice.
74F this morning. D1 will continue sleeping. D2 will head to school. I might go back to bed although I feel ok at the moment.

I’ve noticed recently that my vision has become somewhat better over the last year or so,
— me too. I attribute it to the supplement I’ve been taking, and not sleeping with my face jammed into a pillow. Could just be aging, but it’s great. Prior to this my vision was getting worse, with “readers” needed for anything close. I don’t even carry them anymore. There is still the occasional something that is hard to make out, and I wear an Optivisor magnifier for close work, but I can read without glasses again.

Crazy times. I had never heard of Charlie Kirk, I suppose because I’ve been out of the US for so long. But still – apparently a guy who believed in discussing issues, and gets shot for his trouble. Coming on top of Iryna’s murder, the left is really working to empower the right.
If you can’t beat the competition, then eliminate the competition.
Wife and I decided to buy one of our former exchange students a new phone for her birthday. Her Google Pixel had screen and water damage. The screen was cracked and sometimes the touch screen failed to register presses. So I took her to the Saturn store and got her a phone. She wanted a cheaper phone, but I said no, get something better. I sort of steered her to the Google Pixel 10 Pro. That is what she got. Yeh, expensive. It was only released 3 weeks ago. She has made enough trips to the U.S. and paid for enough when we have been to her place (B&B, food, etc), that it was as Dances With Wolves would say “A Good Trade”.
We are spending 24 days in Germany and only spending about $300.00. That excludes train and plane tickets, a cost we would have incurred as tourists. Lodging and food are at no cost to us. So spending money on a phone seems OK in the overall scheme of things.
We’re all too old and set in our ways to really be fanboys for Charlie Kirk. His target, and his support was aimed at high school and college kids who are conservative in the face of overwhelming lefty/prog views. He got mentioned a lot during other discussions.
“Charlie Kirk did this… ” or “Charlie Kirk said this…” or “watch Charlie Kirk with this leftist…” His presence and influence is all over conservative politics.
To see the impact, just look at what they are saying and who is reacting “He caused it himself.” “Maybe it was one of his supporters shooting his gun in celebration”. All the usual suspects on the left and in media.

What eye supplement are you taking?
My primary care dr recommended taking this.

I was taking it occasionally, but started every day last year. Something is making a difference… and it’s cheap enough to try. Even cheap reader glasses aren’t free.

Vision is much more than eyesight!
Good stuff! My ophthalmologist recommended something less potent over a decade ago, and this was on the shelf next to it. I bought some, and have been taking it s.ince. I have not noticed any changes, but that doesn’t mean it is not helping.
I told that doc about it, and he was not aware. He thought it was good.
I saw something a while back about vitamin B(s). I take a multi-vitamin and assumed it had vitamin B in it; but I checked and it does not. Since I started taking the multi-vitamin my weight has gotten closer to where it should be.
Anybody have an opinion of vitamin B?
My doctors are pleased with my overall health. I just turned 80 and am still active. The only real issue is my loss of 2 full inches in height. I was 6 feet tall but now I’m only 5’ 8”. The doctors are a bit surprised also. I weighed 155 ten years ago and now its only 140, but for several years it was in the low 130s.
I just want to see with eyes unclouded.
You might want to talk to your doc about the loss of your ability to do arithmetic.
So far it looks like trannism:

Trannies are sick. Stop taking the drugs and cutting your junk off.
My mistake, I lost 2 inches by 2016 and another 2 inches since then.
Could you please elucidate for those of us who don’t read that genre? What are you trying to tell us?
From Princess Mononoke. The full quote is “What is it that you want?” “To see with eyes unclouded by hate.” (Approximately. Original is in Japanese and I don’t think I’ve ever heard it in English.)
When Trump proposed a week or two ago banning guns for trannies, most people on the Right freaked out because even a well-intentioned gun ban is a dangerous idea.
Not me. My immediate response was to say that it’s a good idea. But it doesn’t go far enough. If we’re abridging fundamental rights from an identifiable group based on group characteristics because they’re disproportionately prone to violence, we should do the same for other identifiable groups. Say, a group which is responsible for 52% of the homicides in the US.
Alas, my posts on Gab and elsewhere got only agreement, not any outraged “That’s racist!” responses.
Dang it, must have deleted my next paragraph and didn’t notice until too late to edit.
I was just joking about seeing, following the many comments about eye surgery and such.
More seriously, it is something I strive for, being able to see, unclouded by preconceptions and emotion.
That is a preachy film.
We saw the IMAX anniversary print in April since that was the flick playing at the TCL Chinese for the week.
We took the theater tour, got lunch, and then returned for the movie.

I like the studio ghibli films but I find there is a weirdness to the storytelling that just misses connecting with me by that much. I want to live in a world where someone can have as much impact on a genre as Miyazaki did, and there is an alternative to Disney, or anime, or even the push back grossness of Ren & Stimpy and the rest of the cartoon network pukefest.
but they don’t move my soul.

I had no idea that he was a street preacher. I admire that very much.
I have done some street preaching over the years. You get a lot of push back, especially from the muslims. It is very dangerous now.
One of the things he was famous for is taking on all comers in street debate. The muzzies have absolute faith that their crazy beliefs are reflective of the real world, and true.

Dude, you rock ! Teaching your daughters to weld has multiple benefits. One, a job that they can always fall back on. Two, a way to discern men who cannot fix anything.
Wait, I can’t weld to save my life. I actually made a hole in a one inch thick eight foot diameter steel plate in a 50,000 gpm cooling water pipe. Bob shook his head and had to fix the hole I made.

By age 86, my dad had dropped from 6’2″ to 5’10”, maybe less. I suddenly realized a couple of months ago that I was a couple of inches taller than him now. He dropped from 250 lbs at age 80 to 180 lbs before he passed away in July. He lost quite a bit of weight in the hospital and hospice also. He was 160 lbs when he and mom got married in 1959 when he was 20.
I gave him a big hug in early June when I was leaving their house to go home. He felt like just skin and bones. His Sunday suit was just hanging on him.

and anyone else find it at all curious that some random dude ™ immediately shouts out that he’s the killer, providing a distraction and confusing the response, while the real shooter gets away?
also interesting- someone who knows better than me can comment, but hitting in the neck from an elevated position suggests to me the guy was going for the head shot, but didn’t correct for his downward angle, implying not particularly well trained, but maybe trained and had practiced on a range.
Tell me you’re an idiot without saying you’re an idiot. Similar to saying “my truth”.
Take a look at Makoto Shinkai’s movies: Your Name, Weathering with You, and Suzume. (And a bunch more, but these are the most recent and the best.) Visually amazing. Even with computers doing much of the work, I suspect that ten animators died making each film.
Noooooo. Perfectly natural. Happens every day, right?
I suspect that the neck shot was luck more than skill. Firing from an elevation, a far-side-of-the-neck shot would be even more difficult than a notoriously difficult head shot. Also, the rifle was described as “an old” .30-06. That doesn’t necessarily mean sloppy and inaccurate but suggests it.
Shooting with a rifle angled a lot up or a lot down from horizontal generally leads to a shot that impacts too high. That is, unless the shooter is a marksman who knows to hold a bit low, or is able to calculate the vertical offset. However, for this effect to be noticeable, the angle needs to be fairly steep. The longer the shot, the more marked the effect.

– not quite.
That assumes a couple of things and really is kind of the opposite of what I was thinking of. It assumes the error comes from incorrectly adjusting for the elevation change. I’m suggesting the shooter DIDN’T adjust at all for the elevation change.
Shooter has zeroed the scope on a range, with it level. Puts that same scope on Kirk, and because he’s pointed down already, bullet impacts lower than aim point. The video assumes correcting for the angle but using the wrong distance.
Or say that the scope is set to correct for drop at 1000 ft, when there is no change in elevation. Draw that triangle. Now rotate it down 5 or 10 degrees from the barrel to account for the elevation difference between shooter and target, and the bullet hits low.
If he set it up like the classroom guy and made that mistake, then maybe he was aiming for the chest.
Either way, doesn’t have to be a secret squirrel guy, just someone with a little practice and a well set up rifle/scope combo. Charlie is just as dead.
AND someone is training these guys, the guy at the rally missed Trump thru pure happenstance, and the guy that was set up for a shot at the golf course just didn’t get to take the shot.
THREE snipers so far and the first and last had escape plans. How many more are there out there?

So my wife’s new honda pilot has the “towing package”. In reality though, the wiring harness for the trailer is an ADD ON.
WTF? Who thinks a towing package without the ability to actually tow, because you can’t connect lights or brakes, is a thing? Honda can suck my balls.
n
93F, might as well call it 94F.
Crazy hot in the garage. Sweating standing still. I went in to find a capacitor for something I am trying to fix, and while in there fixed an overhead light by removing the ballast and rewiring for the LED replacement bulbs. Didn’t take long, and I was tired of darkness in that area. All the LED tubes I have need the rewiring. They were cheap and it only needs to be done once. It’s an example of grabbing a small thing off the list while not making progress on the big things.
n
Much easier to add the tow package (hitch and wiring) than adding things to the engine and transmission. The Highlander is the same – all models (except maybe the base model) have the extra cooling installed on the engine (transmission cooler included) system. And the electrical wiring sits above the left rear wheel, accessible through an access panel on the inside wheel well area.
The trailer kit comes with the hitch frame assembly, and the control box and wiring (with 4 connector plug) that hooks into the already existing signal wiring in that access area. Takes less than an hour for the service guys to install.
My only complaint is that the wiring assembly was just for signaling lights to a four-connector plug that connects to the trailer. Would have been nice to have a 7-connector that would have added the extra 12v connection instead. Although there is 12v wired to pre-wired connection that is used, so one could run an extra wire to provied a 12v line to a 7 connector plug.
My truck has both the 4 fin flat connector and the round connector. It also has the wiring under the dash for a brake controller. A plug and play thing.
What brake controller do I need? Crickets. Well, I have no trailers with electric brakes,

Contrast with my Ford Expedition. The towing package includes oversized radiator, oil and transmission coolers, upgraded brakes and suspension parts, an integrated brake controller, and all the wiring (both 4 and 7 wire) and steel to actually attach a trailer. 10000 capacity.

I looked yesterday for what battery level the Kindle Fire wants to be charged. Nothing. Just useless click bait junk. Search engines have just sucked for the last year or so.
But I found my answer today.
When the Fire goes into “Low Power Mode” it’s time. 8% battery charge remaining. Five hours to charge… but the charger is an LG sorta slow supply.
I’m good with sorta slow. My phone can do Fast Charge with the proper charger but it sure gets warm. And batteries getting warm from charging ain’t good…. lead acid car batteries, anyway.
So my phone takes 3 hours to charge. The Fire today took 5 hours and barely got warm.
My phone starts complaining at 15% but does not go into a battery saving mode that lets me still read the screen. The phone turns off at 5% battery. It knows what it’s doing.
I just watched Ford vs Ferrari and it’s a pretty good movie.
It’s been on the list for a long time and I snagged a copy with the 180 movies for $150 (or whatever) deal I found on Facebook.
Good movie.
The rip into Iacocca was a gift. The man sold a lot of cr*p vehicles.
If you liked “Ford v. Ferrari”, you will want to see “F1” if you get a deal on a BluRay.
Apple spent $200 million on the flick. Watch on BluRay.
Reminds me. I listened to an F1 history: “The Formula “ by Joshua Robinson and Jonathan Clegg. Highly recommended.

Good movie.
The movie illustrated two items awesomely: your brakes need to at least 3X the power of your engine horsepower AND brakes have to be cooled and made out of awesome materials to prevent fade.
Nah. If you drive anything with more muscle than a minivan with a 4-cyl, what you want is a set of small rockets facing to launch rearward. Sort of like JATO units but in reverse. They’re attached to a box which is attached to the car’s frame. A computer measures the vehicle speed and when it gets below, say 5MPH, the cable is cut and the rocket(s) just go off, to prevent dragging your car backward.
The rockets also serve as defense against tailgaters or stupid pigs who want to pull you over for stupid things like having rockets on your car.
And yet, he sold a lot of vehicles. Various Fords and then Chrysler K-cars and variations thereof.
I never heard anyone I knew with some k-car or minivan call it junk.
A shower thought. After watching Ford vs Ferrari a few days after watching Dogma I have to say Matt Damon is really good.
In one movie he’s got Shelby’s Texas drawl. In the other he’s Loki, the Angle of Death. Totally different .
Tom Cruise? Bette Davis? Joan Crawford? John Wayne? George Burns? You go to watch them.
John Goodman is also good. From Matinee to The Gambler.
True. But the movie is set early to mid 60’s and all that brake cooling and materials was still being figured out.
Brake hard, accelerate hard, crash hard. Replace almost everything between races. Racing burns cash like nothing else.

towing with a Honda Pilot.
Been there, done that, got the white knuckles to prove it. Honda is wildly optimistic when they give the rating. My personal experience? Wind resistance factors in a LOT and make damn sure whatever you are towing is as light as possible and very well balanced.
Put in a brake controller and use it.
Sway bars are your friend
Slow and steady is your friend.
I towed a variety of things and weights with my Pilot. Anything over 1,800 lbs and taller than the Honda is asking for trouble, regardless of its rating. The higher end of the tow rating for a Pilot, I am told, assumes a nicely streamlined wind friendly boat.
And
to be the unintended consequence of the year
I‘ve been thinking about a particular book, and wondering whether this is the event that picks up that book as an instruction manual.
Even my wife is worried about the tit for tat exploding and hurting ordinary people.
D1 let tickytacky tell her that Kirk deserved to be killed because of his violent rhetoric.
W keeps bringing up the Dem state rep in Minnesota as an example of right wing violence. It’s the ONLY one she can mention, but she’s sure that the violence has been even on both sides or that the one instance negates any claims of left wing violence. Anyone got any links to the followup on that event? Was the other guy killed because the killer didn’t know which one was the Rep? Was it political violence?

“Honoring Charlie Kirk: Using the Communist Control Act to Save Freedom”
https://thelibertydaily.com/honoring-charlie-kirk-using-communist-control-act-save/
“In 1954, Congress passed the Communist Control Act of 1954. This law is still valid and should be used immediately to deal with the subversive Communist element in our Congress and cities. It would allow politicians aligned with the Communist Party to be removed from office. It could also target Antifa as a terrorist organization. Many sitting in Congress right now are Communists. It’s time we clean up Congress and remove those who do not place serving American citizens as their first and only priority. At one time, our Congress understood the threat, now many in Congress are the threat.”
“We’ve played nice. We’ve bit out lips and tolerated violence and anti-American behavior long enough. Kirk was murdered. We have the tool to address Communism head-on and need to use it before it is too late.”
I’ll bet a hundred Obama judges would invalidate the act immediately. I have no idea if SCOTUS has ruled on this act.
