Sat. July 14, 2018 – all the chicks back in the nest

77F well before 8am. I’m guessing hot and humid today…

The whole family is home again, the dog and the daddy are happy.

Time for my once a month non-prepping hobby to meet this morning. I hope the wife and kids leave me some job to do later today…… oh, who’m I kidding, all of them will be there for me.

Fri. July 13, 2018 – Friday the 13th falls on a Friday this week!

76F at 730. Hot? Why yes, I think so.

Caught a little bit of forecasted rain last night. Barely got the ground wet. Did cool things off a tiny bit. Sunny and clear as I run to put the trash out. They are NEVER this early!

Lots to do as the week draws to a close.

Didn’t do much prepping this week. Feel a sense of unease from that.

Lost some more food because of the rats. I’ve got it stored in the black and yellow tubs, and bugs got into one tub. Just lost a case of mac and cheese and some other pasta, but I hate losing food. I’ve got to get it back on the shelves.

Listening to the scanner is getting me a better picture of what the cops’ capabilities are for surveillance, and what sort of serious crime is very nearby. I’m actually quite surprised by what I’m able to hear. As a law and order citizen, I’m shocked and appalled how much info they’re leaking. As a potential survivor of TEOTWAWKI, I’m glad to be learning about their very Matt Bracken-esk abilities.

There were a couple of small things I picked up, but can’t remember what they were. My “Big Bubba” gallon jug has been getting a work out. I bought it to use for hot pot slow cooking on RBT’s mention of the technique, but I’ve been using it traditionally for cold drinks.

So, anyone building in meatspace? anyone stacking preps?

Hurricane season is here. The terrorist murderers are still out there. Mother Gaia still wants to shake the ticks off her back…..

Thur. July 12, 2018 – still busy, still hot

Almost 80 F at almost 8AM, my rule of tens says over 100F later this morning.

Unless we get rained on. Yesterday’s NOAA forecast had rain for the next two days. This is different from Tues. forecast that had us clear for those days. I wish this guy would get his stuff together. It was rock solid last year.

I’m out of the house all day today. Gotta make a buck or two. Speaking of which, I ran into another reseller who does a lot more networking than I do, and he says everyone is complaining that their ebay sales are down. Maybe it’s not just me. In any case, doing some other work for my last remaining client.

(and a previous employer might have a project that I’m a good fit for, and he’s called a couple of times this week. Might end up getting sucked back in….)

Wed. July 11, 2018 – living in a PA story

Currently 77F at 730am. Liars call for sunny and dry.

Woke up this morning dreaming I was in a PA novel. The event was over, and people were getting to their rendezvous points. It was a bit like after the hurricane when the evacuees return.

Group of friends joins us. We see signs of life everywhere. LOTS of people made it through and now they are out looking for stuff.

We go out in a jeep, meet up with a group, and are ambushed and all killed. My pistol is some skinny metal thing with a wire trigger guard that won’t fire, won’t chamber a round, and won’t shoot straight. I blue on blue one of our guys before we’re all killed and captured.

Not a good way to wake up.

Better get some breakfast cooking, or the little one will unleash the kraken….

Tues. July 10, 2018 – whew, glad that’s over

Yesterday was in fact a very long day. Glad that it is over.

75F at 730. Yesterday was so humid you couldn’t spray paint. The texture got weird. I ended up bringing the pieces inside to dry. And then the sky opened up anyway, so good call.

More work today, but a later start, and the work from yesterday….

(I see liberal heads exploding over Trump’s SCOTUS pick. Filthy hypocrites didn’t mind when the court was stacked left, but it’s the end of the world now that it might be right leaning.)

Mon. July 9, 2018 – another week begins

A bit earlier than normal. 75F at 530am. Not usually up at this hour, so no real idea if this means HOT or just normal hot today. Pretty sure the humid is a given.

Oldest at sleep away camp, youngest trying to test out of this grade level in math today, and I think one of the barriers is to keep everyone from trying is to make the test earlier than normal school. It would have weeded me out….

Anyway, gonna be a long day.

Fri. July 6, 2018 – missed me, missed me, ….

At the last minute, after the first gusts arrived, the storm system that was aimed like an arrow at my house jogged west a hair and completely bypassed me last night.

Weather station says ‘no precip’ for me.

Today is 74F and 91%RH to start my day, and it’s sure to be hot and humid later.

A quick review of headlines shows a pause in reporting, probably due to the weird split week. I’m sure the slide continues.

I’ve been mulling the idea of ‘crowdsourcing’ and the ‘wisdom of crowds’ as presented in the business press, and I think they are making a fundamental error, but I don’t have my thoughts organized yet. Perhaps later.

In the mean time, the rain and heat here have put a damper on my preps. (hah) Zukes not thriving. Grape vine going wild but no fruit. Everyone but me has garden produce… waaaa.

Anyone do anything interesting to prep this week? Anyone signed up for learning a new skill or going to a new community meeting?

Thur. July 5, 2018 – cooler, with rain

Or anyway that’s what it looks like out my window.

Only 71F with 90%RH, and while this does meet my ‘Rule of 10s’ it feels like it will be cooler today. And modern life is all about the feelz and not about reality. So I’m just being modern! 🙂

I hope Colin made it through the fire works without too much distress. Our little dog isn’t bothered by thunder or fireworks, and I’m reminded to be thankful for that at least a couple times a year.

I’m also thankful that there weren’t any attacks yesterday. Every day without is a good day.

Go buy some ammo, spend an hour at the range, teach someone to shoot.
