Cooler for certain. Yesterday was nice, mid 80sF high and somewhat muggy in the afternoon, but until then it was cool. 72F when I got to the BOL with a very light fog in the valleys. Hopefully today will be cool.
Did my non-prepping hobby meeting, then came home and napped for a few hours. Loaded the truck and headed to the BOL. Still managed to forget a big box. Arrived without incident despite some light fog in the valleys.
Today I’ll sleep in a bit, then see what I feel like doing on the list. There is electrical work to do. I’d like to finish the circuits I ran for the server closet, the bath fans, and the towel warmer. I’ve got lighting to replace on the dock too. And mowing and and and…
Lot’s of folks up for the long weekend.
There’s always more to do. Don’t falter. And keep stacking.

Sunday. Good morning!
Also at the BOL. A neighbour invited us to a birthday party, so I came down yesterday for that. I have to go back to base this afternoon, unfortunately. Doing a few minor domestic bits in the meantime, and meeting friends for a drink later.
Have a good day!
Jar Jar Abrams turn in the director’s chair of the “Mission Impossible” series.
The upside of the movie being kinda-sorta successful is that Paramount gave Jar Jar and screenplay writer Alex Kurtzman creative control of “Star Trek” for the next 20 years.

Jar Jar and Kurtzman have their moments, but they need adult supervision.
65 F and lots of fog this morning.
Still working on moms and our tax returns for 2025. Spent lots of time trying to figure out why dad only withheld 10% income tax on his IRA distributions in 2025. No quarterly tax reports that I can find. Almost gave up in disgust.
Winter is coming.
My IRA plan from work withholds 20%, no exceptions. I wanted 10% as I get over half of the withheld amount back in my tax refund. Irritating I am loaning the IRS $4K interest-free each year, for 3 days shy of 12 months.
The math didn’t work to do even a partial Roth IRA conversion?
Not that I believe the Congresscritters would honor the committment if the numbers got attractive enough.
Margaret Hamilton has died.
Noooo, not the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz . . . 🙂
A Roth IRA conversion would sting me with significant tax consequences. The money is from an annuity that has to be paid out over 10 years. I am also under RMD rules with the IRS and the money paid out is used to satisfy my RMD requirements.
I have three years (including the 2027 distribution) left on the distributions. At that time my RMD percentage will have increased, as it does each year, so that I need a couple of other funds to satisfy the RMD. I have plans for the next seven years, such plans validated by my investment advisor.
The money from work was placed in an annuity, matched at 6% of my salary, so basically free money. I had no choice on the type of account, just different funds within the account.
I have talked with my advisor about conversion to ROTH IRAs. The math is not favorable due to the amount I would need to pay to the IRS. That lump sum distribution is significant and the type of accounts I have do not allow partial conversion.
That scam and myth that was foisted upon us in the early years, pay into an IRA as your tax burden will be less after age 65, is just not true. When I started retirement savings there were no ROTH IRAs. And now it is too late. I don’t have any earned income which is required to contribute to a ROTH IRA. All that is available is conversion and that would be costly.
I gave my advisor three goals. 1: Protect the principle. 2: Avoid the IRS. 3: Gains. I am thinking of moving #2 to #1.
