Had a pretty good day at the event. Talked with lots of people. Some sold well and made money but some didn’t. I sold pretty well, but I was also cutting prices to the bone. Some younger people shopping as guests on our public day. Nice to see it. All the hobbies need new people to come in in order to survive.
Today I am going in a bit earlier for a group breakfast, and then a few hours of selling. The pack and load out takes me some time, so it will be late afternoon or evening before I’m home. Then Monday I’ll have to unload the trailer and return it, while storing stuff away at the shop.
All in all, a good show for me. We’ll see how the club does later.

I bought some more 30 year freeze dried food for the closet last. I hope we will never need it.

But it’s a dry heat, Pool staying at around 90 because I put the blue bubble covers on. W1, D1 and grandkids all like it up there. House at 76-77. PGE last month was up to $170. Solar will catch up soon.

BT W: It occured to me, on Friday I helped somebody by chaffeuring them to-and-from an auto shop. I got paid with a very nice hot pastrami sandwich from the Iron Horse restaurant in late afternoon.
My guess is that meal is part of what caused the body odor the next day. Something to keep in mind, hot pastrami = ‘dead hobo’ , could come in handy.

The years from 2009 through 2016 were a very unsettled period of my life. Betrayal, divorce, depression, anxiety, work drama, unemployment, trying to find myself. Beginning a new long distance relationship, and eventually moving in with her. I was active on Facebook then, and I was mostly a vague poster. But even though I don’t post on FB at all any more, I get email reminders of what happened on this day in years past, and it’s been interesting to see where I am now compared to where I was then.
Today’s email pointed me to two old posts. One, from 2011, was a singer-songwriter I discovered on Pandora, Mark Fossom, and his song “Wrap Me Up”. In the years since, I have completely forgotten him, but the Pandora algorithm that found him for me was really very good. I imagine it figured out from the acoustic blues artists I listened to that I could stretch just a bit in the folky area. It was right. The lyrics spoke to me as I was in that relationship.
In 2016, I posted my dinner meal. Don’t hate me; it wasn’t a thing I did often. But I had Sauerbraten and my GF had pork medallions at Juliusspital Weinstuben Würzburg. It was the best meal and the best wine of the entire trip, and that was saying a lot. When we think of our trip to Germany, this is one of our highlights. Along with the Loreley, Salzburg (I know, not Germany), driving on the Autobahn (by accident), and Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles, and Rothenburg including the night watch tour.
If Germany was full of Germans and led by Germans instead of Globalists, I’d think about going back.

From the very beginning in article after article, report after report, RCP8.5 was not described as “worst-case” but as ”business as usual”, aka “if this goes on, this is what will happen”. The MSM has been describing it that way for 15 years.
Anyone with a modicum of sense that read beyond the innocuous label knew that it was not the case. Every year the graphs showed actual* warming falling behind the ever-upward projections that RCP8.5 built stairstepping each projection on the next.
The use of the worst-case conditions to create a “scenario” (which does not have to be given a pass/fail grade like a “prediction”) has always been a patently obvious propaganda campaign that the vast majority of researchers signed onto with enthusiasm.
The stairs have finally collapsed.
Now it’s time to go back and find out how the defective stairs were constructed. Researchers who published papers built on “implausible assumptions”–and got a lot of publicity, funding, and promotions–should be required to go back and revise their work before they see any new funding.

I stopped at Sam’s Club this weekend and they were sampling Marry Me Chicken with Cheese Tortellini. I don’t know if it is new, and I don’t know if the $5.49/lb price for a 3.5-lb tray is a sale price, but I’m pretty sure I can’t entertain making it for that. Ingredients (some of which will not be used up), time, and multiple pans to clean up–no thank you. Not to mention fussing with the sauce.
Warmed it in the microwave. Figure 6 servings at about $3 each. I put 3 in the freezer.
It won’t be a weekly or even a monthly buy, but every two months sounds about right.
On the flip side, if you make it yourself, you know what’s in it. I suppose that you, with greater-than-most chemical knowledge, have a better idea than most about some of the additives. Even so, I greatly prefer to cook from scratch. Of course, there’s not much I can do about most of the ingredients aside from the eggs I gather, given that a number of organic or all-natural farms and ranches have turned out to be not quite as organic and all-natural as claimed.
Today I wanted to do some paying work. Needed to, rather. No dice. Brain not working, most likely from not getting a whole lot of sleep lately. Was going to mow. Certainly didn’t want to but it almost needs it and the forecast calls for rain for the next several days. No dice. Grass was wet in the morning and didn’t get mostly dry until noon. Went out to mow and light rain started. Went inside. Rain stopped. Went outside. Rain. Went inside. Continued to rain. Just sprinkles, but enough to make mowing difficult.
Was going to set up the security cameras that I bought for the family house. Almost no dice. Despite their claim of not needing an internet connection because of local storage, you need to install an app on a phone or tablet and you need an internet connection to set them up. And you need to provide a valid email address and other personal information. Eufy E42 system. I’m very disappointed with it. Not recommended, at least not until they change their product description on their site and on Amazon. Haven’t returned it yet; I want to see if I can set it up and then disconnect from the internet and still be able to review activity with my tablet via bluetooth.
Tonight’s cinematic delight was Vanilla Sky. I dunno man…. I mean it’s a Tom Cruise movie with Tom Cruise and some sexy stuff. No frontal, nor anything below the waist. A few cuss words.
I’m going to have to watch it again. First viewing takeaway? The entire movie is a nightmare someone is having after a real bad car wreck. It’s entirely all a dream.

It was 106 F according to my truck when I came out of Sams Club at 5 pm. It was 101 F when I came out of HEB at 6pm. It was only 100 F at my office 15 minutes later.
I get hummingbirds here. Not the fancy multi colored birds. Just shades of gray and brown. It’s cool. I like watching them.
They usually show up, enough for me to notice, about April first. And are mostly gone late August. This year they showed up mid-March. Phase of the Moon, whatever. Beginning of August, all gone but a few stragglers. Maybe we haven’t had enough rain, I don’t know.
I read somewhere they can live 15 years. Ok, that explains the “sitting on the patio and getting a hummingbird chirping two feet from my face” because the feeder is dry.
In my face. No one else. Because I’m the guy that fills the feeder.
I’ve had a few land on my finger. They weigh nothing. Claw feel is like a parakeet or a cockatiel but no weight. It’s really cool.
Random thought…. if hummingbird tongues were such a delicacy in Roman times, what were they eating?

re: climate scams
We’ve lost. These false, unscientific narratives have been repeated so forcefully, and so often, that they’ve been internalized by at least two entire generations.
By “internalized”, I mean they are part of the assumptions people have that dictate their daily decisions and outlook on the world, even if they know better intellectually. “I’m going to eat healthy today” means salads and veggies and maybe even skip meat today. People are using global warming as a reason not to reproduce. Not to mention the level of depression and mental illness caused by this fatalistic, lunatic outlook.
I don’t know how to overcome this level of inertia. Just proving them wrong is not enough. The message needs affirmatively and effectively reversed.
And all this while fighting communism at the same time. Buckle up; it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
I’m still getting used to the idea that my life and activities don’t revolve around a work schedule any more. There are adjustments to make.
I went out today to check out garage sales, a simple pleasure, but not too expensive as I already own almost all the junk, er, tools, supplies and materials, but it gets me out and I meet people in a non-threatening context. As long as I don’t let myself run off at the mouth, I’m fine. Today’s haul was a local cookbook, the kind small hobby groups put together for fundraising. This one was by a local quilting group, and the recipes look like ‘church lady food’, which as a PK from small east coast towns feel very much at home. I’m looking forward to experiments.
The other item was an older MasterCraft multimeter, which has been modified to use rechargeable internal batteries instead of a replaceable 9v. The low current fuse was also replaced (with a very thin piece of wire) and an inexplicable LED has been attached to the circuit board but internally, so you can’t see it. I may have wasted my five bucks.
I’m still waiting for the first rain on my new shingles. Weather site said I”ll get some tonight so I will be able to relax about the roof and start fretting about repairing the water damage, mostly confined to the ceiling in my spare bedroom. But, I live alone, so that will be way down the priority list.
It’s a great life if you keep moving.

I went to a block party this weekend. Garage band. BYOB, but they had coolers with beer. Lots of catered food, plus contributions. Ate too much. Had two beers, then switched to Hoplark–had to drive home.
I posted last year when I discovered Hoplark. They have three lines: hop teas, hop-infused sparkling water, and pseudo-beer.
The hop-infused sparkling water has no pretense to be beer or anything else, but I’ve been fortunate enough to find it on sale a few times. Didn’t care much for the Mosaic or Citra hops–both are overused and abused in too many beer. I’ve settled on the Sabro hop version as my alternative to fruity sparkling water or NA beer.
The shelf price is way too high at $10/6 and if I were going to drink much I’d take a few shots at rolling my own. There are lots of others on the market. Sierra Nevada Hop Splash has some good reviews and is $9/6. Yeah, the price reflects small volume, but I think it mostly shows the effect of producing a non-alcoholic product in a system designed to make alcoholic beer under strict track of volume for the revenoors.

So. Shortly after my last comment, I went out to the garage to get a padlock for the uHaul trailer, having lost the previous lock. I notice water on the floor in front of the upright freezer. Can’t immediately tell if the door has been open a little or if it’s not making cold.
Suddenly, three loud ‘bang’ sounds and the power goes out…
Yup, after some faffing about on the phone, Centerpoint has our block marked as a 9 person outage, with a 4 hour estimated duration.
And I’m trying to figure out if I need a freezer.
Centerpoint showed up around 2 hours and climbed my pole to the transformer that feeds us at this end of the block. A tree was pushing the secondaries against each other until they rubbed thru and “pop” goes the fuse at the transformer. The two guys got the situation fixed promptly and I got the lights on. I had started the honda eu3000 to run the house fridge and the dead freezer, couldn’t start the whole house gennie because I didn’t have a charged battery, so I took all that back down and switched back to shore power…
Then spent the last three hours moving defrosted (but still 33F) meat to other freezers and the kitchen fridge. The upright in the garage is not making cold. I’ll see what I can see tomorrow, as getting it out of the garage and getting something in in its place is going to be a big job with all the cr@p in the way.
Soaked to the skin from humidity, and it’s still 87F out.

Sounds awesome. I had four chicken wings from stripping two HEB chickens and four deviled eggs that my wife made this afternoon. Topped off with HEB strawberry ice cream and a 1.5 mile walk after the sun went down and only 86 F.
