Another fine day Ollie. If by fine you mean hot and humid. And sunny. The overcast didn’t last long and the sun was trying to cook my brains in my skull, but I fooled it, I don’t have any! Ha, take that sun. Seriously though, it did get a bit cooler in the afternoon and the breeze was nice. I hope that continues as it is very hot at the shop.
I did do a couple of pickups, kind of ‘clearing the decks’ before the weekend and getting ready to head to the BOL in a couple of days. Then I went to the shop and started plugging away at clearing enough space to get out of the storage unit. I did get distracted toward the end and spent some cool down time going through 5 boxes of LP records I picked up. There are a surprising number of $20 and $30 records in what was a random lot without even genre descriptions. If I can get moving on listing stuff, it’ll be a great purchase.
There is a box full of jazz and blues 78s on the Decca label that might even have some more valuable records in it, but I ran out of time to look them up. I really need to start listing stuff. And I need to sort and stack the stuff I’m keeping. I am making it a point to listen to a couple of records most days. Great stuff. Day before yesterday it was two very early Kinks records I hadn’t heard before. I like their later stuff better, so I should sell them, but I’ll probably keep them out of a need for completeness.
Little stuff to fill in around the bigger stuff…
Oh, and some other auction stuff arrived in the mail that will go into the armory stacks. Never know when you’ll need some parts.
Today I’ll be working on the shop and the storage unit. If I can get that albatross off my neck, I’ll count it as major progress along that path. Just have to stay cool and hydrated.
Baby steps are still steps. And adding to the stacks doesn’t hurt.

The heatwave is forecast to persist until at least 2 July. Meh. Don’t like. Three cold showers a day, and still hot and sweaty, plus it is too warm to do anything productive indoors, not to mention outdoors.

I’m on record with my current lead that I don’t do severance when the time comes.
Even though I’ve said this multiple times over the last year or so, the realization has just sunk in with him of what it means.
I can’t talk about the details, but if I had not been in a position to take a phone call late on a Thursday night about a month ago, the impact on the company’s bottom line would have been significant. It may have even impacted that big IPO which happened a few weeks ago with one of the most important customers.

A misting fan might be a good prep. Absent having one at hand, sitting in front of a conventional fan with your feet in a tub of cold water and a damp towel around the neck might help.
Hot weather should make the Euro’s appreciate the American love of ice in their drinks.

I wouldn’t adopt them as a universal solution, but would try them on a particular project that has a duration of a few months. If they work I might expand, but I hesitate to rely on a app, and certainly wouldn’t be so foolish as to give a third-party a list of critcal preps.

A cool and windy morning here in the high desert, the winds never dropping below 20mph all night. There is a high wind warning in effect until Sunday evening, winds in the 30s with gusts to 50mph.
There was yard work planned, that’s probably not happening.
One corner of a triangular sun sail was flapping loose the other day. I assumed that the corner grommet for the metal attach ring had pulled out, or the metal ring had failed, but it turned out to be metal fatigue of the fitting attached to the house.
Chinesium gets tired.
I already love ice in my drinks. I seem to be the only person around here who always has ice cubes on hand. Gin & tonic without ice is a sin.
I likes my beer frosty too.
Not quite ready for feet in a bucket of iced water, but am hiding from the fusion furnace in the house with the blinds down and watching YouTube with minimal physical effort. We have an invitation to a birthday party later. I hope it will cool off at least a little towards evening.

Can you purchase a window a/c unit and air condition one room? That is what we used to do when I was a kid. My wife and my first house in Sweetwater, Texas had a single window a/c in the living room, which did ok even on 115 F (46 C) days.

I did get W1 to agree in principle however, to buying and installing mini-splits for our bedrooms at base and the BOL. She has understood that she doesn’t like being unable to sleep because it is too warm. Base will be an easy install, at the BOL rather more complex.

tiny little fire and a couple of hours of reading was nice. Sitting still just made me really stiff and sore though. And I’ve got at least another full day of work on the storage unit.
