Fri. Jan. 9, 2026 – still not used to reaching for the “6” in 2026

Warmish and moist. Real moist. The national map has us on the edge of an area of possible T storms. That’s gonna depend on who wins the Gulf vs continental weather pattern war. It is probably why it’s so hard to predict our weather. Move that edge 10-20 miles and you hit us or miss us. Mid 70sF at least, and probably hotter. And moist.

Did some auction stuff in the morning yesterday and some domestic bliss but not much of either. Then I went out and did my pickups.

Two of my auctioneers are going through some changes. One, with 12 years in the resale business, sent out email this week calling it quits. She’s not even doing one last auction. She’ll be “focusing on other things”. The other is based in The Woodlands, and had opened a second office closer to me. They are closing that office and no longer doing auctions there. They will wholesale pallets of product out of that warehouse, but they cut all but one employee. I can’t remember when they opened the office, sometime in the last year.

Small players come and go, but the bigger boys have been a more constant presence. Looks like going for some geographical diversity hasn’t worked out. This will make three in the last few months that closed their second office, and I think one of them is shaky even at their first location.

As an auction reseller, you make your money when you buy the items. If you don’t buy the right items, and at the right (cheapest) price, you will not survive no matter how many you sell. Getting the good stuff cheap is harder than it looks, and it’s very easy to lie to yourself and overspend.

I want choices and lots to bid on, so I can add to my stacks cheaply. It’s been a great way to buy tons of stuff from generators to fuel cans, solar panels to inverters, food, tools, woodburning stoves, cleaning supplies, medical supplies and equipment, pretty much anything a prepper might need.

I’ll keep stacking, but it might cost more….

Today I definitely need to do some office stuff. And the office clean up continues. Found a computer. Found some laptops. Found some test equipment. Found more sewing supplies than I thought I had. It’s way overdue and I hate doing it, but there are rewards.

Stack while you can. But also manage your stacks.

    Friday. Brunchtime.

There is a blizzard outside, and official warnings to avoid using the roads (pushed to my mobile phone), so I am working from home.

House is warm, fridge is full, light and heating are on. Internet works. No problems.

    Have a good Friday!

Of course not. Every day is snuggle a chicken day for SteveF!

Chickens are fine creatures, especially whichever one laid the eggs I had for brunch – those were delicious.

That is a lot of very serious claims.  Especially the energy density.  I wonder if they can really mass produce this battery ?

Of course, one of the major problems with solid state batteries is that they like to discharge very quickly.  But Donut says that their batteries are very unlikely to have fires.

    “Very unlikely” to have fires.

Show Ya and Propellerheads never stop believing. No word on cost, however.

Thanks to our new “workspace” layout at the office, I’ve been listening to the Propellerhead responsible for our Go fiasco pushing his new ideas involving AI, including reformatting our entire source code base starting at the oldest branches and working forward through the commits.

Yup. Lots of wind. Not as much snow as predicted, but still enough.

We’re not far from Crans Montana, so that’s all over the local and national news. I suppose in a month or so we will have the real information. Currently stuff comes out in bits and pieces, often contradictory.

Some things you really didn’t want to know. Apparently, there are no real checks on the materials that get installed inside of a building. Sure, they are required to be fire resistant, but who checks? And who is at fault, when a non-compliant material is installed? Is it the contractor? The owners?

In the case of Crans Montana, the owners apparently managed the renovation themselves. Which makes it particularly reprehensible is that – just today, more than a week after the fire – the police are questioning the owners. They have had plenty of time to “adjust” any written records they have, and to agree on the “facts” with anyone else who might be involved.

While I am no fan of American mega-corps, I do have a hope here: Vale Resorts (or whatever they are called) just recently took over the Crans Montana ski slopes. They are going to be…displeased with the current publicity. I expect they will bring a good bit of pressure – hopefully to properly clear things up, and not just sweep it all under the rug…

To be used in a vehicle, dumping that much power, that quickly, would require significantly high voltage or current. The size of the cable required would be too heavy for most people to handle. It would require some type of standardized, fixed connection on the back of the vehicle, where the vehicle backs into the connection. Like a giant USB-C, let’s call it USB-F (F for Flux), 1.21 Gigawatt connector.

Marque and Reprisal Next? US Seizes Fifth Tanker In Sanctions Campaign; UPDATE: Video Added

There are now more than 1,470 tankers classed as being part of the shadow or dark fleet, according to the ship monitoring website TankerTrackers.com. Their number has swelled since 2022 as Russia has looked for routes around Western sanctions for its war against Ukraine.

S&P Global puts their numbers at 940, which represent 17% of tankers currently transporting oil, oil products and chemicals around the world.

The shadow fleet transported some 3.7 billion barrels of oil in 2025, accounting for 6% to 7% of the annual global crude oil flows, according to Kpler.

The last question will be one of finances. Does the cost of these seizures outweigh the benefits of the ships and the interdiction? In the short run, yes. However, it will take years to track down and seize even a quarter of this fleet, and the US Navy and US Coast Guard have other duties. We may want to revisit a previously quaint clause of the US Constitution. Article I, Section 8 grants Congress the power “To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water.” Congress can license privateers to do most of the heavy work in capturing these vessels, with assistance as needed from the US Navy and Coast Guard. Maybe it’s time to make everything old new again.

    • Seawash is incorporated in Minneapolis to provide ship repainting services on local lakes , opening global offices at site of former daycare center, and stock immediately shoots up 10,000 percent when the State of Minnesota provides $5 billion in small business grant.
    • Minnesota Democrat party receives $10 million in contributions from Seawash principles seeking better government.
    • Minnesota taxpayers don’t hear about any of it, because Minnesota television, radio, and newspapers find nothing to report.
    • Independent journalist documents Seawash changing names and trim color on oil tanker 5 times in one day.

As noted above, the video taken by Officer Ross has been released.

It blows up the PLT narrative completely. See the link above.

A couple questions that I posed have been answered:

The light-colored truck with the driver’s door open that is to the right of the Honda Pilot (from the rear perspective) is the vehicle that Officer Ross arrived in.  He exits at 00:00, and circles the Honda counterclockwise.

At 00:13 he is far enough around the front that a sliver of the left-pointed front tire can be seen at the bottom of the frame, with the smiling driver’s face in the upper right. As he continues around the driver’s side the driver starts ragging on him at 00:15, then Spouse Ms. Cook jsteps up the ragging at 00:20 as he gets to the back an films the Missouri license plate.

Officer Ross continues to circle. The last comment from Spouse Ms. Cook is “Get yourself some lunch, big boy.” She then turns and puts her hand on the passenger door at 00:38 as if she’s going to enter. Officer Ross is not if front of the Honda at this point.

00:38-00:40 Officer Ross video show the front passenger Honda wheel cut sharply to the left, then it swings, bringing him directly in front, finishing  on a line between the center and the steering wheel. At 00:40 Spouse Ms. Cook can be heard yelling “Drive, baby, drive”, making charges against her more likely. Note that during this maneuver the Honda is swinging toward Spouse Ms. Cook. This probably explains why video taken from the back of the Honda shows her moving quickly toward the back even before the shots were fired.

By 00:41 the Honda is moving forward, Officer Ross shouts, and is hit hard enough that the sound of the collision almost obscures the sound of the first shot. By 00:42 the camera is tilted followed by the sound of shots 2 and 3. Officer Ross hangs on to the camera, has the fleeing Honda briefly reframed before the camera tilts down to the pavement, and the sound of impact is heard at 00:47

Spouse Ms. Cook goes from taunting, gesturing smart-ass at 00:36 to dead spouse rolling at 00:41.

This video is conclusive in a number of respects:

    • The shooting was justified.
    • The “analysts” offered up by the MSM proved why “anal” is the root of the word. None of them will ever be taken seriously again, as the counter will always be “Weren’t you the guy that got it totally wrong on the Minneapolis shooting?”
    • The driver was not frightened, she was enjoying herself and working in tandem with her spouse to taunt and ridicule the federal agents that they were impeding.

There is more than enough evidence to get subpoenas for the Cook’s cell phones and their call records, if it was not done already. It should also be possible from the additional video to determine if there were any other cellphone cameras nearby that have not been accounted for.

Get the cellphone call records and start looking at who was making the calls/texts to coordinate the activity that culminated in the attempted murder of a federal agent and the justified shooting of his assailant.

“”Silence will not protect us from people who trade in violence to achieve their fascist goals. Our voices will,” Krasner said. “The law must apply to everyone, and therefore we have to use our voices to call out people who commit terrible crimes or justify them. We have to use our voices to remind people that it’s not just a question of what you can get away with. It’s a question of right and wrong.””

ICE could also deploy 4-man teams with a van: Drop two guys behind the Philly steak shop, walk two guys in the front, and make 15-20 arrests in one shot. After they arrest a few hundred Italians and Sicilians the dons will start trading the foreigners to get ICE to lay off.

“Here’s the vehicle reversing. The officer is not in front of the vehicle,” Pool said. “She reverses and now he is in front of the vehicle.” He adds critical context about timing and positioning: “He initially is to the right of the vehicle. By all means argue he should not have placed … himself in this position. We’re talking about seconds.”

The most damning detail comes next.

Pool paused the footage at the exact moment the vehicle stops. “The vehicle stops here. The wheels are pointed left. As you can see, the officer is standing right in front of the vehicle,” he said. Then comes the acceleration. “Watch the front tire right here. The wheels are pointed left, and she accelerates.”

What happens next undercuts the claim that Good was merely trying to escape. “The wheel spins out on ice,” Pool explained. “Then, with the wheels pointed at the officer, having spun out already, meaning the officer can hear the engine rev with it pointed at him, he draws his weapon.”

Pool stresses that the ice plays a crucial role in what viewers are seeing. “I wanna stress this again. Her tire, her front tire on her SUV, is spinning out on the ice,” he said. “You can see it right there. It spins on the ground. It slips.”

As the slow-motion continues, Pool describes the final seconds. “And in a second, ’cause this is slow mode, she then begins to turn right, hitting him, and he shoots,” he said.

Pool closes with what may be the most important takeaway of all. “There are two points that I think are important. Were it not for the ice, which you can see on the ground, the vehicle would have just lurched forward, run this guy over

Meanwhile, New Zealand experienced a more moderate flu season but still prolonged, fueled by H3N2 K viruses, which were introduced from Australia, the study found.

Overall, subclade K viruses accounted for roughly half of the Australian viruses and more than two-thirds of the viruses in New Zealand.

In the US, 97 percent of flu samples since September have been influenza A; of those, 86 percent were H3N2; and of those, 91 percent belonged to subclade K.

In investigating where subclade K came from, researchers discovered that the first K influenza virus sequenced in June 2025 was actually from the US, more specifically, New York.

It was then detected in Wisconsin and Michigan in July 2025. The study noted: ‘This coincided with the first detections of clade K viruses in Australia.’

    Non-prepping hobby tomorrow.

I went to my non prepping hobby last night, the monthly HOA meeting:

    1. Our neighborhood main entrance and monument to our neighborhood is going to be closed by the new Grand Parkway segment C just now starting construction.  But, TxDOT just told the Grand Parkway that they cannot build a new tollway without a service road on BOTH sides of the Grand Parkway (Texas state law !).  The Grand Parkway was moving the service road to the east side and not bothering to build an underpass into our neighborhood so all of our traffic was going to have to move to our side entrance.  BTW, the new Grand Parkway by itself without service roads is 300 feet wide.       https://www.txdot.gov/projects/projects-studies/houston/sh99-grand-parkway/overview/segment-c.html
    2. Our old HOA architectural committee members were griping about the fact that the new HOA board were getting out mostly affirmatives too quickly when they were just sending out the first rejection notice at three weeks (they got me three times on my last project, cost me a $500 delay fee with my contractor).  Our new HOA board head popped up and said that the norm was now 36 hours and nothing had been turned down which pissed them off big time.  This is the second reason why we have a new HOA Board.  The old architectural committee was a bunch of asshole retirees that sat on everything for months or years and would reject requests with just the phrase “rejected” and no explanation.  One of them even asked me for a bribe last year (I think).

Mortgage rates sink to three-year low after shock Trump move – what it means for YOUR home’s value

By DANIEL JONES, US CONSUMER AND REAL ESTATE EDITOR

Mortgage rates plunged to their lowest level in nearly three years on Friday after President Donald Trump said he had ordered a massive government intervention aimed at pushing borrowing costs down.

In a surprise post on Truth Social, Trump said he was directing mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to buy $200 billion worth of mortgage bonds — a move that immediately rippled through financial markets.

‘This will drive Mortgage Rates DOWN, monthly payments DOWN, and make the cost of owning a home more affordable,’ Trump wrote in Thursday’s post.

The impact was swift today. New figures out this afternoon show the average rate on a 30-year fixed mortgage dropped 22 basis points to 5.99 percent, according to Mortgage News Daily, matching the lowest level…

Thanks to our new “workspace” layout at the office, I’ve been listening to the Propellerhead responsible for our Go fiasco pushing his new ideas involving AI, including reformatting our entire source code base starting at the oldest branches and working forward through the commits.

    God help us all.

Can you make a copy of your source code base and stash it offline ?

I can imagine what this fool is planning on doing.  He is talking about putting in a “pretty printer” and have it modify every single commit back to the dawn of time.  That makes no sense whatsoever and indicates that he does not have a clue what ya’ll do for a living. He is bucking for another raise and promotion.

Is Iranian regime about to collapse?

One can hope. Of course, the problem with too many revolutions is that the new government is even worse than the old government. Improvement it all too rare…

As noted above, the video taken by Officer Ross has been released. It blows up the PLT narrative completely.

I admit I got it wrong, from looking at the videos. Also, Ms. Good has a long history of crazy…

the average rate on a 30-year fixed mortgage dropped 22 basis points to 5.99 percent

If I may quote Captain Kirk: “Is that…a lot?” I’m pretty sure I never paid more than 5% on a mortgage in the US.

       https://www.hydrocarbonprocessing.com/news/2026/01/chinese-refiners-expected-to-replace-venezuelan-oil-with-iranian-crude/

“Chinese independent refiners are expected to switch to heavy crude from sources including Iran in coming months to replace Venezuelan shipments halted since the U.S. removed the country’s president, traders and analysts said.”

“Caracas and Washington agreed to export up to $2 B worth of Venezuelan crude to the United States, President Donald Trump said on Tuesday, after U.S. forces captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro over the weekend.”

“That arrangement is likely to curtail Venezuelan supply to China, analysts say, reducing a source of cheap oil for independent refiners known as teapots. The world’s biggest crude importer is a major buyer of discounted sanctioned oil from Russia, Iran and Venezuela.”

And another finger in China’s eye by the USA.

The wife and I paid 14.875% on our first mortgage in 1982 on a $28,000 home in Sweetwater, Texas.  We are currently paying 4.00% on our home mortgage.

I was paying 5.4% on our commercial mortgage on our commercial property but I paid it off in early 2025?.
