Hot and humid in Houston and at the BOL. I’m sure we’ll get to 100F here today. Forecast has us on the edge of the “t-storms and rain possible” zone, but the lake has its own little microclimate. Summer in Texas.
I did computer stuff and office stuff in the morning yesterday, then loaded the truck and ran errands before heading to the BOL. W and D2 will follow today, I think. D1 will be working and staying with her best friend, and then going to their lakehouse for the holiday. Got here and mowed the grass. It was knee high in most places. I’ll have to mow again in a couple of days to get all the blades that just bent over.
Today, I’ll see what the heat is like and what I can do besides finishing the grass cutting and decorating for the holiday. It would be nice to get a couple of things off the list, but we’ll see how motivated I am and how hot it is. I should be able to find stuff to do to keep moving.
Always be working, right? And stacking. Time to pull out the canned tomato products and rotate them before the cans rupture….

Thursday. Good morning!
Megaproject abides. Worked until midnight, then back at the coal face at 07:30. Joy, but it pays the mortgages and feeds hungry mouths.
If all goes well today, I will have tomorrow off for some rest. I might even do exciting things like bathing and laundry. Wohoo!
Weather outside is looking like a nice summer’s day. I will wait until the fusion reactor in the sky passes its zenith a good bit and hope to get in a sneak attack with the leaf blower against the debris on the lawn. It is looking nice and dry and crunchy now. If I get the lawn clear, I can restart the robot mower.
The local Lidl had two remaindered petrol strimmers/brush cutters. Chinesium, but for 60 eurobucks, a lot cheaper than a strimmer attachment for my Stihl multi-head. I got one for the BOL, where I need to clear an overgrown spot that is due for seeding as lawn. It used to be a vegetable garden, but we are not there enough to maintain it as such, so grass will at least keep it looking tidy-ish.
We had tried for a wildflower meadow, unfortunately without much success. The first year, we got nearly only rape (colza) plants, and this year we had mostly just weeds. The bees and butterflies loved the chaos, but W1 and the neighbours didn’t much appreciate it. I will hack it down with the strimmer, then dose it with the last few precious drops of my glyphosat stash before tilling and sowing.
Time to investigate breakfast options… Have a beautiful day!
Three weeks isn’t terrible. I reboot my “road” laptop whenever Fedora issues a kernel patch, which has been once a week lately.
FreeBSD is under less scrutiny than Linux. I’m not sure whether that is a good or bad thing.
Apple cribs from FreeBSD above the kernel level, but the BSD model doesn’t require them to share changes.
The President of the Mathlete type new hires have been given the run of the “scary” Claude model at my employer. One got a gold star for flagging an issue in my libcurl code this week, but I responded that the “issue” was convention and, if convention changed suddenly by the libcurl developers, would potentially break code which was up to 30 years old.
That doesn’t matter. Claude says it is broken so it is broken.
Y’all have to amend the Constitution, because this is pretty clear: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens…”
The wiggle room is “subject to the jurisdiction thereof”, but that only really shuts out diplomats (who have diplomatic immunity), because anyone else present in the country is supposed to obey the laws or suffer the consequences.
Well, reddit, anyway. Reddit is so far left that they are in danger of wrapping around.
That’s not what “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” means.
That used to be the case. I’m not sure that it is anymore. It’s probably more a helix than a circle, with the leftards wrapping around to the point that they superficially resemble the far right, except that the leftards have descended until they’re on a different level.
Then what does it mean? Seems like plain English, but I’m sure the lawyers have twisted it over the past 250 years…
The language originated in the 14th amendment, only ~ 160 years ago, and was a very late addition to the text.
The language being interpreted as birthright citizenship was a Supreme Court decision from about 130 years ago.
The expectation was that Congress would debate and clarify the language within a reasonable timeframe after the Supreme Court decision, but that never happened and probably never will.
I doubt Trump expected to prevail on the EO, but the opinions from the Court provide a road map to getting a ban without Congress being involved. Roberts probably left something in the text if you read it carefully, and the Boy Wonder joined the minority on the interpretation of the language decision so his dissent will probably also prove useful to get that Swing chair.
As for the Payola seat, that currently belongs to Touchdown Jesus, and the Catholic Church has a vested financial interest in birthright citizenship. Barrett won’t change her vote.
When all else fails, listen to Thomas or read his opinions. I have a high opinion of my understanding of the US Constitution and the history and intended meaning of every clause, because I don’t bring my desired outcome to the interpretation. This puts me above most federal judges and commenters, from what I can see. In particular I value my opinion over that of the childless schoolmarm, the dumbass Latina, and the gender-confused DEI hire. Also above that of the needle-threading politician in the Chief Justice seat. However, if I interpret the Constitution or a law one way and Thomas wrote something different, he’s right and I’m wrong.
Mowed. About 85F when I started, over 90 when I finished. It was overdue but I’ve been very busy and the whether wasn’t cooperating. Wasn’t great this morning, either, because of overnight rain, but it was the best of the available options for most of the coming week.
Yes, I realize that Texans will not have much sympathy regarding those temperatures, nor for the expected high near 100F today and tomorrow. Fair enough. I don’t have much sympathy when Texans complain about temperatures getting cold enough that above-ground water pipes are in danger of freezing.
The Elder Child and his wife closed on their house near San Antonio. By coincidence, The Child is visiting, so she’s been drafted into cleaning the new place (it wasn’t trashed badly enough to be a cause of action but it was considerably dirtier and had more litter than when it was inspected) and moving boxes. It remains to be seen whether she will die, literally die, from doing physical activity.
The needle threading works both ways. I believe Roberts saved the economy of the US with the carefully worded decision on Biden’s jab mandate after Trump lost his nerve and the election.
I still think the Control numbers on the mRNA tech are too low and the unvaxxed rate is closer to 20%.
Very sunny 87F at the moment. Finished my Eggos and bacon, still working on the coffee. I’m not in a hurry to go to work, even though I should be.
Always interesting to start the day with some Constitutional scholarship. My cursory reading of the amendment seemed pretty clear that it applied to the ex-slaves, immigrants who were already there, and anyone else who intended to stay. Dunno if it included the Indians or if the BIA had already F’d them over… but they could have solved the whole thing by saying “as of January First of this year” or something similar. Pity that they didn’t.

The kereug duo leaves a bit to be desired if you want more than a K kup worth, but less than the smallest pot it will brew. It’s a pain to clean the Moka pot though, so I endure. Still, thinking about a change since good coffee is much more enjoyable.
I suppose I should start to get ready to work.
n
I believe Indians at the time were considered to be conquered foreign nations wholly contained within the U.S. territory, and constrained by treaty. As such, they were not, and could not be, citizens. I think it was a mistake to change that status . I have lived near reservations; it’s a hotbed of entitlement and poverty mindset.
I have also seen quotes on X, attributed to lawmakers at the time the amendment was passed that, if genuine, clearly state that it did not apply to people here visiting or illegally present.
Dredd Scott declared that persons of African descent were not citizens and the political system is still dealing with the guilt from that. The 14th Amendment attempted to provide language to prevent that interpretation of law from happening again so that’s probably why no timeframes were specified.
The US Government was also dealing with citizenship issues from the Mexican-American war at the time the 14th Amendment went to the states for ratification. After gold was discovered, California went straight from conquered land to statehood without being an organized territory first, and the Utah territory was not created until after California statehood.
I imagine that there were also genealogical researchers in Salt Lake City who would wanted to avoid questions about who in the LDS hierarchy was not a “natural born citizen” and ineligible to run for President. This came up as recently as 1968 when George Romney ran for the Republican nomination.
The Elders have desired the White House for a long time, but I still believe the Windsors will hold it first. Not that it matters to me — I will probably be dead when the 100 year plan reaches the conclusion in 34 years.
The Windsors won’t blow it with a feckless candidate like Mittens.
Poorly drafted, but then again birth(right) tourism and coddling of invaders wasn’t a thing back then.
They created a solution to the problems they had (slaves & immigrants & indians), then lost interest.
Something’s wrong when temperature here is 10 or 12F warmer than down there. Sure, you wrote that half an hour ago and you’re an hour behind, so far as sunrise goes, but something’s wrong here.
I would mist my chickens with cool-ish water, but every time I did that before, they panicked. “eek! new thing!” Well, suck it up, fluffheads. I can see about letting them into the forest, which is much cooler than the yard, but that will depend on what work I have.
Exactly. The Republicans will do nothing about it. Just like the Dumbocrats did nothing about abortion when they had the chance, now they just whine about it.
So have I. Lots of corruption also. I think the fundamental problem is one of IQ. Like certain other groups, the average person on a reservation lacks the mental capacity for complex jobs, for long-term planning, etc.. They average around 85, the same as American blacks, and a full standard deviation below average.
Fetal alcohol syndrome to various degrees, malnourishment, limited gene pool, and maybe the post war euro problem of losing generations of their best and brightest to war.
The rez sux the balls. Even with gambling money, they are typically horrible.

***IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT***
Kankles Klinton will never be President! Also, The Kamel!
***IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT***
Bumped up from 87F to 93F in the last half hour. That might be sun hitting the sensor though.

Wait until after the Midterms before ruling Kamala out completely.
Talarico goes on the short list of VPs for someone if he wins the US Senate race.
There is absolutely no way this drunken mush-mouth is elected President. I believe she is dead for holding any office. The commie takeover of the Dumbocrat Party precludes her from being nominated for anything.
I have reviewed the call, and the judge’s decision stands.
“Kill all the commies” isn’t hate speech, it’s common sense.
n
Yup, Civil War 2.0 is coming. Us normals versus the commies.
We have hammered six times in the last 48 hours.
And Chuck and Paul are using the same VPN. Coincidence, I think not.
Green Hypocrisy. The Case of Baltimore’s Bresco Waste-to-Energy Incinerator

More “black” (as in death) than green.
Had a sucky quarterly glaucoma checkup with my eye surgeon yesterday. My right eye is good and the Latanoprost eye drops have stopped the optic nerve destruction at 5% for five years now. The left eye, crap. It was at 10% optic nerve destruction five years ago, 15% two or three years ago, and is now at 20%. This is known as “mild” glaucoma. A friend of mine went to 60% in each eye in five years a decade ago. Our eye surgeon tried everything on her, nothing worked to slow it down.
We talked about his “new” laser to cut six holes in each eye white section in five seconds. He has used it a thousand times now. He is seeing the industry norms, 2 or 4% of people, no response. 25% failure rate at five years due to eye material growing back, some quickly, some slowly. He thinks the laser would not help in my case since I do take the eye drops every night without fail. The laser is really for people who do not take the drops or have severe glaucoma like my friend.
The best option is to not get glaucoma. Choose your parents wisely.
Every year, the incinerator emits more sulfur dioxide into Baltimore’s air than all the cars and trucks on the road eight times over.
Huh, they are burning wallboard. Wallboard has Calcium Sulfate, CaSO4, in it which gets converted in the combustion process to SO2 and other goodies.

Outdoor temperature has been hovering for several hours at crossing the 3-digit line but hasn’t quite made it.
(That’s 3-digits Fahrenheit. We’re solidly in three digits on the Rankine and Kelvin scales and I would be very surprised if we hit three digits Celsius.)
French press? You can make any amount. Cleaning it is a mild nuisance but not much worse than cleaning the drip machine after use
“Tim Walz Helps Pardon Laotian Man Convicted of Raping 10-Year-Old”

Walz is just another commie who wants to start the killing fields going for white people. Just imagine, he could have been our VP now.

Crude Oil for August in the USA is down to $68 per US Barrel. Lovely, just lovely. Customers are emailing wanting to renegotiate their contracts.

Trolls think they are smart by using other users’ preferred handles and VPNs.

At least 20%. I know too many unvaxxed people. Maybe it is just the fundamentalist Christian thing about putting unknown stuff in your body. Me, I believed the hype and got the first two jabs but none of the boosters.
When Walz leaves office, I hope we never hear from that commie turd-bucket again. Pardoning a child molester to try and keep the scum here is a firing squad offense. There has to be something DHS can do to deport said scum.
Ditto for work and a cruise. It is too bad companies and goobermints went hook, line, and sinker. Then when truths started coming out and reversed their policies. “Look how progressive we are!” FU.
wanting to renegotiate their contracts.
– ask them if you can adjust upward when the price goes up.

105F now that the sensor is in the sun. It’s considerably less in the shade.
Finished all the mowing including the park. Even went over my yards twice to even out yesterday’s bushwhacking nonsense.

Using someone else’s name when you comment is a dick move. Period.

I was getting ready to get the trimmer out and realized I forgot the new spool of string at home. W and D2 plus X1 are already on the way, so unless I find some tucked away, I might not get any trimming done this visit. My back will be happy but my list will be un-done…
The A/C units in the garage have cooled it down to the mid 80sF which is tolerable. I need to work my mojo on getting a mini-split for a better and more permanent solution though.

The Dotz Buffalo flavored pretzels are very tasty. Quite tangy and the burn builds slowly. Original is still my favorite, but these are nice and would be good with ranch dip or blue cheese.
I’m having my lunch while I cool off and decide on my next job.

Geesh
Hyper-woke border town proudly flies the SOMALI flag for its Independence Day a day after canceling July 4 fireworks for America 250
It is either “game over, man, game over” or CWII. This isn’t the only city or State doing this shit.
Rewarding a child raper for his crime tells you everything you need to know about Timmy and the democrat party. He was their choice for VP, there is no way he’s an outlier.
There will be a cleansing fire.

and many scores will be settled, public and private.

Yes, people have lists and are adding to them.
Yup, my former USMC son saw that in Iraq big time. Lots of homes with safe rooms burned to the ground. The safe room burned too.

Yeah, my web host maintains their own version of FreeBSD. It is even tighter than the off the shelf version. With over 200,000 domains, they have been around the bend several times.
