Wed. Oct. 21, 2026 – busy day

By on October 21st, 2026 in culture, decline and fall, march to war

Cool, then warm. Maybe even hot. We did get into the low 90sF yesterday afternoon. It’s nice though. Very pleasant after the heat and humidity. I’m hoping for more days like yesterday.

Didn’t get much actually done yesterday. I did make one pickup but it was personal stuff. I might sell something, but most of it was for me. I missed my second and optional pickups. Sometimes I fall down a rabbit hole online and time flies by. Yesterday it was cloning or migrating a wordpress site, this one specifically, to a backup URL on a different host. I also realized that I’d let my personal “resume'” site lapse, and our “family” site. I’m sitting on variations of names for my business site too, and I’ll probably never really need that site again, other than for email. It’s expensive to park names if you pay for all the privacy options.

I need to consider if I want to renew all those variations, and what I want to do with any of the family or speculative names I bought. I let go of several that were reserved for business ideas that I decided I’d never pursue last time they came up for renewal. And it turns out I’ve been paying for a hosting plan I’ve never used. I can use that for backup, the resume’, or for something new. Or let it lapse too.

It’s easy to let stuff just automatically renew. That’s one of the reasons I hate that everything is moving to subscription models. They KNOW most people will end up paying for stuff they don’t use, just out of inertia.

Today I will be meeting with the HVAC guys at the rent house first thing in the morning, and again at the end of the day. In between I have to pick up three metro shelf racks for the shop. I might be able to fit in another pickup after that too. In any case, I’ll probably be away from my desk all day, so y’all will have to amuse yourselves.

It’s all working on improving my situation. And stacking. Right?

    Wednesday. Good morning!

Oh frabjous day. No work, and no motorway trips.

I think I am going to mess around in the garage, tinker with guns, and go hunting.

Perhaps a nap first? Or even a breakfast beer? Decisions, decisions…

    Ah, breakfast beer…  university days…

Up and moving.   Need to meet the guys at the rent house this morning.  Conveniently, the kid also has some early morning thing at school, and W has a breakfast meeting with clients.  We’ll all be out of the house at the crack of dawn.

Currently 69F and I’ve started the coffee.

    Teally tired of Apple enshittification.

From their daily pushing of left-wing b.s. “news” to the total crapola that is now Apple maps with ads, the whole package is becoming unusable.

And “dark mode” may be the natural state of programmers who spend their live with recto-cranial inversion, but just as having everything black for consumer goods is covering up dirt and avoiding paying for non-fading pigments and UV protection, virtual carbon black is even cheaper.

Your doctor knows which generic does and doesn’t work.

    – so does Customs and Immigration.   They wouldn’t let me bring indian meds in from Mexico, but would allow other manufacturers.

The medications need to be FDA approved, and a lot of the Indian generics are not.

Dark mode offers improved battery life in theory.

I have no butt at all.  My pants slide down even with a belt.   It’s getting to the point I’m considering suspenders.

I am sometimes wearing suspenders now, but because of the opposite reason: having been a stringpole most of my life I am getting fat.

Met the HVAC guys and got them going.  Mainly showing them where to park.

Did one pickup.   The other wasn’t open yet.

Home now for a couple of hours so it’s nap time.   I ended up only getting about 3 hours of sleep due to caffeine and reading…

The “Pro and Tell” event is coming next week to provide you with more ways to give Cupertino your hard earned cash.

    What? Touchscreens? Blasphemy!

I had a touchscreen Surface Laptop. I used the touch a few times in the first couple of days to see if it worketh. I never used touchscreen again. It just seems wrong on a laptop. My hands have to depart from the keyboard to toucheth thy screen. Same with the mouse, but the mouse is on the same level as thy keyboard. The mouse, or touchpad, is much quicker and it does not leave finger markings on the screen.

The new display technology, OLED, will be nice. Dynamic island is nice, but I have had zero issues the “notch”. I don’t see me upgrading.
