Oct. 18, 2022 &#8211; work continues, rain didn&#8217;t stop them"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cool but damp in the morning, warming with the nuclear fire in the sky, but not getting crazy hot&#8230; that&#8217;s my hope anyway.\u00a0\u00a0 It stayed very nice (other than humid) all day yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The crew showed up and got to work.\u00a0 The new machine does the job but has a learning curve.\u00a0\u00a0 Boss man did a pretty good job of climbing the curve.\u00a0 He expects they&#8217;ll be faster today.\u00a0 They started on the back side, where there wasn&#8217;t much, if any, water in the holes.\u00a0 Most of the holes dried out while they were doing the other work.\u00a0 If any are still wet today they have a pump.<\/p>\n<p>I got a couple of smaller tasks done.\u00a0 Moved my metal cabinet into the garage and moved all the canned goods and the freeze drieds to the cabinet.\u00a0\u00a0 Plenty of room for more.\u00a0\u00a0 I stacked the buckets beside it.\u00a0\u00a0 6x 30day buckets of freeze dried (but mostly breakfast and sides, no meat or good main meals).\u00a0 60 days rice.\u00a0 10 gallons of flour.\u00a0 A shelf of pouch meat, and some canned chicken.\u00a0 A couple of flats of veg and beans.\u00a0\u00a0 LOTS more to go before I feel comfortable but it would be good for a short term event.\u00a0 It beats the heck out of foraging and eating cattail roots.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve got a couple of different ways to cook up here, but need to get a set of coleman dual fuel appliances and some fuel stacked.\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;ve got the propane lantern and camp stove, and some 1 pound bottles already.\u00a0 There is an electric hot plate and microwave too, if we lost gas, but had power.\u00a0\u00a0 I feel like I need some more depth, like I&#8217;ve got at home.\u00a0 (Solid fuel camp stove, back packer stoves, butane table top stove, hobo stove, jet boil system, rocket stove, and more multiples of all that.)\u00a0 I like to eat and I like to eat hot food.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually we&#8217;ll get the wood burning stove in place and I&#8217;ll have that too.<\/p>\n<p>There were TWO solar ovens, NIB, in an estate sale last week.\u00a0 Never seen that before, but they got over $20 and I didn&#8217;t see where they ended up.\u00a0\u00a0 Too much for me anyway for something I&#8217;ve never used before and am a little dubious about.<\/p>\n<p>Some accessories for cooking over an open fire would be nice too, tripod with chain, adjustable height grill, spit&#8230;and cast iron.\u00a0 I need more cast iron up here.\u00a0\u00a0 I did bring up a turkey fryer propane ring and pots.\u00a0\u00a0 I can heat water in bulk, have a fish fry, or a crawdad boil with that.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m actually in good shape for alternative cooking.\u00a0\u00a0 I would like to be as set up for water treatment.\u00a0 That is definitely on the list, beyond the sawyer mini and the other small filters.\u00a0 We can always gross filter and boil, but that takes a lot of time and energy.\u00a0 I need more bleach up here.<\/p>\n<p>You can see that even with tall stacks there is always room for more.\u00a0\u00a0 Work on that!\u00a0 Keep stacking!<\/p>\n<p>nick<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cool but damp in the morning, warming with the nuclear fire in the sky, but not getting crazy hot&#8230; that&#8217;s my hope anyway.\u00a0\u00a0 It stayed very nice (other than humid) all day yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The crew showed up and got to work.\u00a0 The new machine does the job but has a learning curve.\u00a0\u00a0 Boss man did a pretty good job of climbing the curve.\u00a0 He expects they&#8217;ll be faster today.\u00a0 They started on the back side,<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ttgnet.com\/journal\/2022\/10\/18\/tues-oct-18-2022-work-continues-rain-didnt-stop-them\/\">&nbsp;&raquo;&nbsp;Read more about: Tues.
