Sept. 26, 2022 &#8211;  home, stuff to do here as well as there&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hot.\u00a0\u00a0 Humid.\u00a0 But cooler to start.\u00a0 Still saturated in the morning though.\u00a0 The lake was a nice break from the Houston heat.\u00a0\u00a0 Somehow the heat there is different, maybe because I&#8217;m out working in it.\u00a0 (Kidding!\u00a0 Hot is hot.\u00a0 I just don&#8217;t have a lake to float on with a cold beer at the end of the day in Houston.)<\/p>\n<p>Spent the day breaking rocks in the hot sun.\u00a0 Shoveling dirt and rocks. \u00a0 Shoveling sand. \u00a0 Moving rocks.\u00a0 There was a whole lot of activity involving rocks. \u00a0 And shovels.\u00a0 And no beer at the end of the day as I needed to get in the truck and drive home.\u00a0 No floating either.<\/p>\n<p>I did get a bunch of broken concrete moved and put to good use filling behind my bulkhead.\u00a0 It (not coincidentally) also cleaned up the work area for the foundation guys. \u00a0\u00a0 To get better access to where I was <s>hiding stashing<\/s> USING the broken concrete, I pulled up two of the dock&#8217;s deck boards.\u00a0\u00a0 And I do think that I&#8217;ll just flip all the boards over.\u00a0 That will be a lot cheaper than replacing them (most of them are very damaged by the sun and water) and the undersides look almost like new&#8230;\u00a0 a little pressure washing, and they&#8217;ll look new.\u00a0 If I was doing it to sell the place, it would be super shady and scam-y, but since I&#8217;m doing it to myself, it&#8217;s nearly genius!\u00a0\u00a0 Dock repair and beautification are pretty far down the list, so it won&#8217;t be happening soon, in any case.<\/p>\n<p>I also met another neighbor.\u00a0\u00a0 He spends most nights fishing off the HOA pier in the fall and winter.\u00a0\u00a0 Says he&#8217;s got a freezer full of deer (from his deer lease nearby) and a freezer full of catfish from the lake.\u00a0 Didn&#8217;t have any piggy.\u00a0\u00a0 Interesting that most of the people up there are well used to feeding themselves off the land.<\/p>\n<p>I need to get ready for a fall garden up there, even if the first try was a complete failure.\u00a0\u00a0 Time for some soil additives and maybe some different seeds.\u00a0 And rototilling in the dried grass.\u00a0 Maybe I&#8217;ll have time while the foundation guys are working.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s always more to do.\u00a0\u00a0 Always be working to improve your situation.<\/p>\n<p>And stack the things!<\/p>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hot.\u00a0\u00a0 Humid.\u00a0 But cooler to start.\u00a0 Still saturated in the morning though.\u00a0 The lake was a nice break from the Houston heat.\u00a0\u00a0 Somehow the heat there is different, maybe because I&#8217;m out working in it.\u00a0 (Kidding!\u00a0 Hot is hot.\u00a0 I just don&#8217;t have a lake to float on with a cold beer at the end of the day in Houston.)<\/p>\n<p>Spent the day breaking rocks in the hot sun.\u00a0 Shoveling dirt and rocks. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ttgnet.com\/journal\/2022\/09\/26\/mon-sept-26-2022-stubby-2\/\">&nbsp;&raquo;&nbsp;Read more about: Mon.
