Mar. 21, 2022 &#8211; stuff to do, stuff to do, stuff to do&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Supposed to be nice in Houston today, but some possibility of rain.\u00a0 The week at the BOL was very nice.\u00a0 It warm in the sun, and cool at night.\u00a0 Perfect for campfires and getting out on the water.\u00a0 Not great for getting IN the water, but the kids managed to have a splash-fest anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Between the work and the unfamiliar bed, I&#8217;m pretty sore.\u00a0 Kinda late in life to be starting another project like this with a body in the condition mine is in, but sweat equity is the only way to make it work.\u00a0 And hey, now I get to learn about alternative sewage disposal, and I&#8217;ll be ahead of the game when city services stop&#8230;.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Or I&#8217;ll dig a slit trench.<\/p>\n<p>Houses are a lot of work.\u00a0 Houses in a distant location are more work.\u00a0 Houses in a distant location that is also rural are a LOT more work.<\/p>\n<p>So, accomplishments so far&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; provide some of own comms infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; mop up sewer water.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; paint, and a lot of scraping.<\/p>\n<p>Still to do&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>-everything.<\/p>\n<p>Water and food are next while working the other issues, primarily sewage and foundation.\u00a0 For food, I will move some buckets of bulk up there, and some cases of cans.\u00a0 Just enough to get started.\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be looking for a chest freezer too.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve already started thinking about rain collection.\u00a0 The gutters need to be redone anyway, so why not have them dump into a collection system?\u00a0\u00a0 The roof is metal and smooth, relatively clean.\u00a0\u00a0 Sure there is a whole lake of water, but it&#8217;s 40 or more feet lower than the house and the garden.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It would be a good idea to have some potable water barrels in place too, in case the lake got contaminated with radiation or a chemical agent.\u00a0 Having some water in tanks would be a good hedge against that.\u00a0 They&#8217;d be closer to the house too.\u00a0 And as it happens, I&#8217;ve got a couple of tanks that I have empty at the moment.\u00a0 More stuff for the &#8216;transfer it to the BOL&#8217; list.\u00a0 Oh, and filters.\u00a0 Need more filters.<\/p>\n<p>The BOL will be a long term project, but there is a need to get some short term solutions in place.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of water filters, there was a BigBerkey in one of the amazon returns auctions locally.\u00a0 It ended up selling for $110.\u00a0\u00a0 Deals and gear are out there.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Of course, I&#8217;m a week behind on every thing here that I was supposed to be doing too.\u00a0 So there is that.\u00a0 Like the title says, stuff to do.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m behind in the news, but I&#8217;m sure we&#8217;re not further from world conflict, economic collapse, and all the\u00a0 troubles of the world.\u00a0\u00a0 So stack, stack, and restack.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll be glad you did.<\/p>\n<p>nick<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Supposed to be nice in Houston today, but some possibility of rain.\u00a0 The week at the BOL was very nice.\u00a0 It warm in the sun, and cool at night.\u00a0 Perfect for campfires and getting out on the water.\u00a0 Not great for getting IN the water, but the kids managed to have a splash-fest anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Between the work and the unfamiliar bed, I&#8217;m pretty sore.\u00a0 Kinda late in life to be starting another project like this with a body in the condition mine is in,<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ttgnet.com\/journal\/2022\/03\/21\/mon-mar-21-2022-stuff-to-do-stuff-to-do-stuff-to-do\/\">&nbsp;&raquo;&nbsp;Read more about: Mon.
