Real cold."},"content":{"rendered":"<p> Don&#8217;t know what it is in the am.\u00a0\u00a0 It was 19F at 7pm when I wrote this.\u00a0 Wanted to get it up in case I had a problem.\u00a0\u00a0 Gennies never have problems on clear sunny days, but they sure seem to in the middle of the night when it&#8217;s in the teens.<\/p>\n<p>After spending the day taking my neighbor food and heat, and getting my own heat up and running, every time the gennie stumbles my heart does too.<\/p>\n<p>Currently (7pm Mon) have two generators running, the honda ex3000i running a couple of oil filled electric space heaters, and phone chargers, and the generac gasoline 4600 running the furnace and fan, fridges and freezers, and networking.\u00a0\u00a0 I damaged the idle control when fixing the carb today so it has\u00a0 a piece of foam as a speed (and voltage ) adjustment.\u00a0\u00a0 It works very well, but occasionally hiccups.<\/p>\n<p>House is warm, 72F and the garage is above freezing.\u00a0\u00a0 The gas fireplace helped a lot.\u00a0 I even got a very quick shower.<\/p>\n<p>I think we&#8217;ll have more of the same today, with added bonus misery as stuff starts failing.<\/p>\n<p>WRT some comments, you can&#8217;t engineer for a 100year event.\u00a0 No one can afford it.\u00a0 This freeze is the very definition of an &#8216;act of God&#8217; for planning and insurance purposes.\u00a0 That&#8217;s why that phrase exists.\u00a0\u00a0 Sometimes the extremely unlikely thing happens.\u00a0\u00a0 Sucks to be us.<\/p>\n<p>Preps have certainly helped.\u00a0\u00a0 Food is not an issue.\u00a0\u00a0 Lots of ways to cook it.\u00a0\u00a0 Heat has been manageable with the propane heaters, and the electric space heaters, and the gas log.\u00a0\u00a0 Lots of extension cords.\u00a0\u00a0 Generators.\u00a0\u00a0 Even enough to share.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a disaster.\u00a0 We are getting through.\u00a0 That&#8217;s what we do and why we prep.<\/p>\n<p>Much more detailed AAR after the disaster is done.<\/p>\n<p>Until then, keep stacking.\u00a0 And evaluate whether it&#8217;s worth it to cover an unlikely risk, especially if you can do so cheaply.\u00a0 (Protip, yes it is.)<\/p>\n<p>nick<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And thanks t o everyone for sharing.\u00a0 Connectivity has been spotty as has my available time.\u00a0 Still here.\u00a0 Still getting by.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> Don&#8217;t know what it is in the am.\u00a0\u00a0 It was 19F at 7pm when I wrote this.\u00a0 Wanted to get it up in case I had a problem.\u00a0\u00a0 Gennies never have problems on clear sunny days, but they sure seem to in the middle of the night when it&#8217;s in the teens.<\/p>\n<p>After spending the day taking my neighbor food and heat, and getting my own heat up and running, every time the gennie stumbles my heart does too.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ttgnet.com\/journal\/2021\/02\/16\/tues-feb-16-2021-its-cold-real-cold\/\">&nbsp;&raquo;&nbsp;Read more about: Tues.
