Dec. 31, 2020 &#8211; New Year&#8217;s Eve"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> Cool and wet again, maybe.<\/p>\n<p>Certainly rained most of yesterday.\u00a0 The ground is saturated.\u00a0 I have standing water in my yard.<\/p>\n<p>I got some very small things done, but had a very late start.\u00a0 Felt good to sleep though, after staying up way too late.<\/p>\n<p>Today I&#8217;m supposed to be able to take some stuff to one of my local auctions.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;ll do that on the way to my rent house, where my tenants have managed to twist the handles off the new shower valves.\u00a0 I think they are just cranking the everloving heck out of them.\u00a0 The knobs and the valve stems were new.\u00a0 If they normally fail in a couple of weeks, I think Home Depot might complain to the vendor about the returns.\u00a0 Therefore, I think it&#8217;s operator error.\u00a0 If the stems aren&#8217;t ruined, I&#8217;ll replace the knobs again, and epoxy the freaking things in place.\u00a0 I know you only need finger tight to shut the valves off, I checked when I installed the new ones.\u00a0 An uncomfortable conversation with the tenants is in my future.<\/p>\n<p>The year is finally nearly over.\u00a0 It&#8217;s NOT that I expect 2021 to be better, in fact I expect it to be worse in almost every way.\u00a0\u00a0 It&#8217;s that I would like to see the clean break of the year change.\u00a0 It&#8217;s POSSIBLE that will have a positive effect on at least some people.\u00a0 A lot of the baggage of the year will be behind us too with the date change.\u00a0 It&#8217;s superstitious, and somewhat silly, but that describes most people too.\u00a0 FWIW, this will be the first year I&#8217;m not anxious about a terror attack on Times Square.\u00a0 That&#8217;s gotta be a blessing.<\/p>\n<p>No matter what happens with the presidential election, I expect politics in 2021 to be INSANE.\u00a0 Half the people will feel cheated and disenfranchised.\u00a0 Violence is almost certain to increase.\u00a0 It&#8217;s much easier to destroy than to create, and some things once damaged, can&#8217;t be fixed.\u00a0\u00a0 Yeah, it&#8217;s possible we&#8217;ll end up replacing stuff with totally new ideas, execution, or tech, but I&#8217;m rating that lower than a meteor strike or aliens revealing themselves.\u00a0 You need optimism and prosperity for those sorts of changes.\u00a0 What you get from anger and desperation is a whole lot uglier.\u00a0 Add that we have historically gotten ourselves out of similar fixes with massive wars, well, the future I&#8217;m preparing for isn&#8217;t bright.<\/p>\n<p>It is possible to get through it though.\u00a0 There are still Jews in Germany.\u00a0 There are Romans in Rome.\u00a0 There are good ol&#8217; boys in the South.\u00a0 Norway and Finland survived WWII as did the UK.\u00a0 Almost everyone BUT the US was impoverished by it and disheartened for a couple of generations though.<\/p>\n<p>In any case, I want to get myself and my loved ones through the trouble I think is coming.\u00a0 Skills, connections, and stuff should all help with that.\u00a0 So I&#8217;m stacking.\u00a0 You should too.<\/p>\n<p>nick <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> Cool and wet again, maybe.<\/p>\n<p>Certainly rained most of yesterday.\u00a0 The ground is saturated.\u00a0 I have standing water in my yard.<\/p>\n<p>I got some very small things done, but had a very late start.\u00a0 Felt good to sleep though, after staying up way too late.<\/p>\n<p>Today I&#8217;m supposed to be able to take some stuff to one of my local auctions.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;ll do that on the way to my rent house,<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ttgnet.com\/journal\/2020\/12\/31\/thur-dec-31-2020-new-years-eve\/\">&nbsp;&raquo;&nbsp;Read more about: Thur.
