June 20, 2020 &#8211; another week gone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> Slightly cooler, humid, might be some rain.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday we got rain almost everywhere I wasn&#8217;t.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I could see the cell moving across the north side of town as I drove around, but I never had any significant rain hit the truck.\u00a0 It did rain here at the house according to my\u00a0 wife,\u00a0 so I won&#8217;t have to water the gardens.\u00a0 Streets were dry by the time I got home though.<\/p>\n<p>Juneteenth was a nothing burger.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve lived here since &#8217;03 and never was aware of any particular celebration even though it&#8217;s supposed to be a Houston thing.\u00a0 I certainly never heard anything about it in all the years I&#8217;ve lived elsewhere.\u00a0 The scanner had the cops following and keeping an eye on various groups throughout the day, but I didn&#8217;t hear about any violence.\u00a0 I guess it could have gone a different way, and it did bring home the value of the scanner for at least a heads up, since I was completely unaware until I heard the first discussion about the gathering crowd.\u00a0 I chose a different route for my errand and avoided any potential threats.<\/p>\n<p>Today I&#8217;ve got a couple more things to pick up, and then I&#8217;m battening down the hatches again.\u00a0\u00a0 Too many stories of people who just HAD to go out and break the distancing rules, who are now getting sick.\u00a0\u00a0 I don&#8217;t feel super anyway, so I&#8217;m not risking it.\u00a0 YMMV.\u00a0 I am ADVOCATING that you all continue to isolate as much as possible.\u00a0 I could be wrong and often am, but the downside risk is huge for this one.<\/p>\n<p>Kids are at swim team practice with the wife this morning, and then (possibly) staying for some free swim.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not the boss of her and I know she&#8217;ll TRY\u00a0 to stay separated.\u00a0 It will also let her take the tenor of the (female half of the) tribes.\u00a0 Perhaps she&#8217;ll get home with renewed commitment to isolating.<\/p>\n<p>It could happen.<\/p>\n<p>Dinner was stewed chicken thighs, in the slow cooker with a sauce packet and veg.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t have what I usually put in, so I went with onion, turnip, beets, carrots, and apple.\u00a0 It tasted great.\u00a0 Just a bit of extra sweet to go with the savory of the spice packet.\u00a0 Dessert was a cupcake.\u00a0 Daughter baked cupcakes for our friends with covid, and another family we haven&#8217;t seen in\u00a0 a while.\u00a0 They dropped them off as a drive by act of kindness.<\/p>\n<p>Some of you know from yesterday&#8217;s comments that Barbara is sick in the hospital, which is why she hasn&#8217;t posted this week.\u00a0 Please see my post over at her site for what details we have.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be passing along whatever she or her sister Frances would like me to.\u00a0 Please keep\u00a0 her and those who love her in your prayers.<\/p>\n<p>The one scenario\/ contingency I can&#8217;t remember Bob ever discussing planning for was his absence.\u00a0 Give it some consideration in your own situation and planning.<\/p>\n<p>Keep planning, and stacking.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>nick<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> Slightly cooler, humid, might be some rain.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday we got rain almost everywhere I wasn&#8217;t.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I could see the cell moving across the north side of town as I drove around, but I never had any significant rain hit the truck.\u00a0 It did rain here at the house according to my\u00a0 wife,\u00a0 so I won&#8217;t have to water the gardens.\u00a0 Streets were dry by the time I got home though.<\/p>\n<p>Juneteenth was a nothing burger.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ttgnet.com\/journal\/2020\/06\/20\/sat-june-20-2020-another-week-gone\/\">&nbsp;&raquo;&nbsp;Read more about: Sat.
